Copy archive log on remote server

Hi guys,
I have Oracle9i server installed on my local pc running on windows xp.
It's configured on Archive log mode. What I'm trying to do is to copy my archive log files to remote pc; and the location in which i want to save my archive log, i can open from my local pc. So, the following are the steps I made:
1 - Create backup of my spfile.
2- open initoradb01.ora which is the backup just created and edit on LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST = ' \\remotepc\orabkp\arch'
3 - STARTUP pfile='c:\initoradb01.ora'
The instance starts without any problem but when archiving is taken a place then the following error is returned
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-16038: log 1 sequence# 30 cannot be archived
ORA-19504: failed to create file ""
ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: 'C:\ORACLE9I_BASE\ORADATA\ORADB01\REDO01.LOG'
ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1:
'C:\ORACLE9I_BASE\ORADATA\ORADB01\REDO01B.LOG'
When archive log location is changed to local pc, then no problem at all.
Would you guys tell me how to solve this problem?

There are some generic issues with mapped drives,pointed out in this metalink note:

The basic story is you cannot use LocalSystem (which owns the Oracle processes by default) to write to mapped drives.

Archived log to standby server stopped

Hi,
I configured dataguard standby server few weeks ago,
I set log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=JHRD0107_OFS1 OPTIONAL'
and log_archive_dest_state=ENABLE in primary server,
and very go fine until yesterday, I shutdown my standby server and set the log_archive_dest_state=DEFER,
when I tried to startup again the standby server, and set log_archive_dest_state=ENABLE again,
the archive stop sending the archived log to log_archive_dest_2.
No error was found in alert log of primary and standby server.
It seem that the primary server don't know there is another archive destination..
The database version is 10g 10.2.0.4
Anyone what could be the cause of this?

Recovery/db copy + archive logs

Hi champions,
There is one confusion in recovery of a database. Version 10g.
I have a hot backup (using copy command) of a database(archive log mode) which I’ve taken at 22.00.00 on Sunday.
Now my database is up and running Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday in archive log mode.I have all the archive logs since the last backup(Sunday 22.00) .and my database got crashed on Wednesday 14.00 completely lost everything (CDR files) only archive logs are with me...
Can i recover my database using Sunday’s backup + archive log till the time it crashed.

Change the location of Archive Logs on standby Server

Can somebody tell me the process how to change the archive logs location for the standby by server. e.g. Its going now to location C:\stby\archives and I want to send it to E:\stby\archives

Need to copy archive log file "arch1_601.dbf" when restore database?

I have the following case:
1) Full hot backup today (Feb-12-2009) in directory /u03/db/backup
2) But ongoing archive log are generated in directory /u02/oracle/uat/uatdb/9.2.0/dbs
3) I need to restore database becuase some data files are missing.
4) Use today ful backup to restore
5) Am I need to copy all archive log files in /u02/oracle/uat/uatdb/9.2.0/dbs to /u03/db/backup because "/u03/db/backup/RMAN" is restore directory?

Logging into remote server - how?

I have Visual Studio installed, along with all the BOE stuff on a virtual machine. I can log into the BOE server successfully in this setup. But now, I need to log into a remote server for more testing. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do this. This is the code for logging in on the same box

That doesn't work. The remote server has an address of 10.1.2.12, with the server name of BOEDIS01. When I try to log in with the following:

Shouldn't there be an option for designating the location of the server?

Archiving logs to remote destinations (NFS)

from version 10.2 oracle requires nfs to be hard mounted even
for log_archive_dest_n destinations. unfortunately when OPTIONAL
destination (hard mounted) is unavailable, archiving and database stops/hangs.
How do you archive to remote locations assuming I do not want to pay
oracle enterprise/data guard license for every backup destination in use ?

If it is Windows, you can map the shared NFS location \\<servername>\folder (to mapped drive, say Z:\) on to the database server and try archiving to the map drive.

Could u tell me last applyed archive log in disaster recovery server

we are using oracle 9.2.0.8 my production database has dr(our dr is not a stand by it is created in diff way) server every time one cron job sync the database and transfer the new logs from production server to dr server. i want to know last applied archive in dr server.
i am using this query select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; it is showing same results in boath production and dr when ever we backup 2 days before archive to some backup directory sync is going to fail
please tell me correct query to find out the last applied archived log in dr server

As you are running cron job to bring the dr in sync, i suppose v$log_history might give you the wrong results.In your case check :-
select sequence#,applied from v$archived_log where applied='YES';
select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied='YES';Would like to know, why manual recovery (archive logs being manually applied) is being performed, and not automatic.
In case you switch to automatic below query would be useful :-

10gr2 standard edition standby question - archive log shipping

Hello,
I have 2 servers with 10gr2 standard edition, one is production(primary) and secondary is standby on windows platform. To keep standby synchronized i use a script to copy archived logs from primary to standby and applying manually (with scripts).
My question is: can i use redo transport service in order to copy archivelogs from primary to standby ?

Will RMAN delete archive log files on a Standby server?

Environment:
Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 10.5
I am currently NOT using an RMAN repository (coming soon).
I have a Primary database sending log files to a Standby.
My Retention Policy is set to 'RECOVERY WINDOW OF 8 DAYS'.
Question: Will RMAN delete the archive log files on the Standby server after they become obsolete based on the Retention Policy or do I need to remove them manually via O/S command?
Does the fact that I'm NOT using an RMAN Repository at the moment make a difference?
Couldn't find the answer in the docs.

No, its not better, but I prefer to manage the archive. This method works, period.
Does that fact (running a backup every 4 hours) make my archivelog deletion policy irrelevant?
No. The policy is important.
Having the Primary set to :
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBYBut set to "NONE" on the Standby.
Means the worst thing that can happen is RMAN will bark when you try to delete something. ( this is a good thing )
How do I prevent the archive backup process from backing up an archive log file before it gets shipped to the standby?
Should be a non-issue, the archive does not move, the REDO is transported and applied. There's SQL to monitor both ( Transport and Apply )

Copying files from local computer to a remote server which is not in Domain and with username and password?

Bill - he still sees that "connection" although it isn't mapped it is attached temporarily.
P - Log off and log back on and the attached connection will be gone. It is temporary. Again - knowing the basics of WIndows would let you know this.
We have given you all of the answers that are possible. There is no other way unless you have installed things like PowerShell and PowerShell remoting or an FTP server.
If you do use a drive it can be just as easily deleted after you have finished the copy.
Again: "NET USE /?" will tell you all of the options.

How do I copy and paste files from a windows remote server to my mac?

How can i copy and paste files from a remote server (windows) to my mac? i have installed cord to connect to the server but now i can´t cpy the files to my mac!

Hi Sara. Tanks for responding. If I cannot figure this out (I was up
until 2am last night), I want to cancel my subscription.
Here are two files you can check on/help me with. When I try again, it
comes up 'an error has occurred when trying to access the service.'
Please advise.

CREATE file, SAVE a copy on local mechine, UPLOAD a copy to remote server

Hi all,
I have a question to ask here, i am developing a pure java app (client/server) which hopefully can
1) client > create a file (abc.txt for e.g) save a copy in local mechine,
2) upload the file to remote server that currently connected (consider store in server?)
3) than remove the copy in local mechine
-OR-
1) create a document with JTextPane, when click on "Save" button,
2) the file will upload ( through ftp and created abc.txt in remote server)
Is this possible with java application?

how these things can happend...
perhaps i can get some concept from you...about the program design and how the flow of the program..that could make file tranfer...to remote server.
