Copy text: acrobat 9 pro vs X pro

Dear people,
Something strange is driving me to the edge of total frustration. I have a unsecured PDF. With text. Bold and not bold. Simple, you would think.
On my personal iMac i have acrobat 9 pro. I copy. I past in word. Everything is fine. 1 font, bold=bold, not bold=not bold. Great, just how I love it!
Now I work on my working machine, a nice MacBook. Running acrobat X pro! You would say this would do things better. Not.
I copy. I past. -> Totally unformatted plain text.
Let's try again. I copy with formatting. I past. -> Formatting looks to be intact. However!! Fonts differ per letter/word/space (totally random)!!! Main font stays the same, but spacing etc completely differ. This is (ok, adobe corrected my bad language, so let's leave that out then). I need the word function 'select text with same format' but in this case this does not work!! What is going on, and how can I make it work again?
Thanx for your help!!
Barbet

I found a fix. Going back to 9...
Thanks for the 'great' support from adobe...

The Education version isn't any different than the regular version.  Try downloading it from here and then apply the serial number you were given.

  • Downloading a replacement copy of Acrobat X Pro

I lost my downloaded copy of Acrobat X Pro in a recent hard drive failure. "My Adobe" page lists all the products I have purchased along with their product keys, but the download link for Acrobat X Pro has disappeared. TheAdobe online store policy pages states that "You may return to your Online Store account to resume a download, or re-download your products three years as of the day of purchase." My order confirmation also said that I could return to "My Adobe" to re-download my product, but I can see no way to do this because my Order Histrory is blank! My attempts to find some way to contact Customer Service have led in merry circles!!! Download sites for this version of Acrobat suggested elsewhere by Adobe Community members do not seem to work. Where can I successfully download a copy of Acrobat X Pro???

This link to the trial version of Acrobat Pro X works fine. It's the one recommended every time by forum regulars.

You must follow the Very Important Instructions first before clicking the download link, otherwise the link will not work.
Launch the trial then enter your serial number to license it.

  • Issues with copying data (Acrobat 8 Pro)

    Hi Everyone,
Hoping you can help me with this. I use Acrobat 8 Pro at work and often need to highlight, copy, and paste text from a PDF to a spreadsheet. Lately, I have been finding that when I go to highlight the text in the PDF, it will not highlight as one would expect. Instead of highlighting a paragraph or sentence and regardless of where I begin to highlight something, the PDF acts as though the text was formulated out of collumns of type and highlights a selection from the top to the bottom of the page. As an example, the following would be highlighted...
    ;kjad hkfja
    lka sd ;flk
    lka sdf oiiwek
    la kdflk af
    ;ak lds  hf;
...from the top to the bottom of the page. Even worse, if one were to highlight the entire page and try to paste it over to Excel it becomes gibberish.
Has anyone run across this before and is there a fix?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
I am able to download the update file without any problem on my machine.
There may be some network glitch when you were last downloading the file. Try it once again. (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5239&fileID=4877)
However, if you still face any issues, download the file from here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/8.x/8.3.1/misc/

  • Keyboard shortcut for "Save a Copy" in Acrobat 9 Pro?

I cannot find a keyboard shortcut for Save a Copy in Acrobat 9.3.2. THere's nothing in the help docs.
Even more bizarrely, the idiots who designed the GUI assigned the y shortcut on the File menu to both "Modify PDF Portfolio" *AND* "Save a Copy", so hitting Alt + f, y performs only the former not the latter.
Any ideas or am I SOL?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dan,
"Save a Copy" is Adobe Reader.
It is not associated with Acrobat Professional's "File" drop-down.

  • Multiple copy from Acrobat 9 Pro extended to Excel

How can I select multiple part of text to copy and paste them across cells of Excel?

You should ask this question in one of the Acrobat forums. The following is probably the most appropriate one: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/creating__editing_%26_exporting_pdfs?view=discus sions
It would be helpful to know the type of things you use Acrobat for. Some features have been enhanced significantly and some functionality you have with Acrobat 9 Extended has been removed.

  • Transfering Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to a new hard drive

I had to change hard drives and now need to re-install all my application programs.  I was able to download Acrobat 9 Pro, but my licensed copy has now turned in to a 30 day trial and I don't know how to get a permanent licensed version.  When I call up the software, I get a Software Setup screen that gives me two options.  The first option, which is checked by default, is: "I have a serial number for this product." and a serial number is listed below.  It is the same serial number I was issued when I purchased Acrobat 9 Pro.
So far so good.  Then I click on next, and here is where the trouble begins.  I get an Upgrade Check window with the following text:
The serial number you entered indicates that your setup is for a upgrade version of Adobe Acrobat Pro
To be eligible for this upgrade, you must already own qualifying product.
We looked in the default locations for qualifying products installed on this machine, but none were found.
You may verify upgrade eligibility without installing your previous software by completing the fields below.
Select a product you already own
Enter the serial number for this product
Acrobat 9 Pro is not listed in the drop down menu of product selections, so I am unable to get rid of my trial status.
Please help me.  I am not trying to upgrade.  I am just trying to download a replacement copy of Acrobat 9 Pro, which I already have a license for, on my new hard drive.
    Thanks.

The message is indicating you are trying to install an upgrade version of the software, meaning when you purchased it, you purcjhased it as an upgrade to an earlier version.  You need to provide proof that you meet the eligibility requirements by specifying the earlier version and submitting its serial number.  If you believe you purchased the software as a full version and not an upgrade then you will need to contact Adobe Support directly by chat or phone to work things out.
Here is a link to a page with options to help make contact:

  • Can't register Acrobat X Pro

Phone support sends me to chat chat doesn't respond. How do I get the software registered. I have 2 other copies of acrobat pro that registered previously w/o problem I also registered Dream Weaver w/o problem. In the past when I needed customer service I actually got issues immediately resolved. What the @%*! happened to Adobe?

If you read the full text of my posts you should understand that this
was MOSTLY NOT about what appears to be a fraudulent copy.
It is mostly about the deterioration of Adobe Customer Service when
compared to my previous experiences with Adobe.
Apparently you (but not other customer service options) have the
experience or training to let me know:
    1) it has "nothing to do with Canada" (other software from other
companies have versions limited to specific geographic areas so the
question seems valid and even if it wasn't, the customer deserved an answer)
    2) that likely this is a case of fraudulent activity (which I suspected
when the product couldn't be registered. Ebay has been contacted)
To respond to some of the things you say:
    1) I believe that somewhere (if not in my post on the forum, I'm sure
was included in the initial Chat), I said that I had a copy of Acrobat X
Pro registered, from which one could assume possession of valid media,
in which case all I needed was a Serial #.
But thanks for letting me know that Adobe no longer sells Acrobat X Pro
Licenses. Since I already had a copy (for which I paid full freight) my
purpose was merely one of convenience to have on another machine I use
    here in the house.
    2) you say the Agents I dealt with Could not provide the "reason" for an
invalid Serial#, and yet you are able to list the possibilities and
probabilities here yourself. It seems unlikely that a properly trained
agent would be incapable of same (Which would have provided some
supporting evidence when attempting to get a refund from Ebay).
    3) "but there is not much that Adobe can do other than to warn potential
customers about the problems with dealing with unknown, non-authorized,
software resellers." Clearly I was not asking for any remedy of any sort
    from Adobe for fraudulent software.
What is also clear is that Customer Service has been lacking at every
step in this episode. Including here. Rather than digesting what is
presented, you make the assumption that I have unreasonable
expectations. In fact I only expect what my customers expected of me
before I retired and closed my business. It seems almost impossible any
more (anywhere) to have a Customer Service Experience in which an Agent
devotes the time and effort to first hear or read the information
presented, digest it, ask clarifying questions as needed, and provide
appropriate responses. In the not so distant past, I had that experience
    with Adobe.
If I get your drift appropriately, I should no longer base my
expectations of Adobe on past performance. So goes the world.
It is just a shame that Adobe can build Premier software but can't
provide matching Customer Service (not to be confused with product
    support which is generally top-notch).

  • Acrobat XI Pro "Out of Memory" Error.

We just received a new Dell T7600 workstation (Win7, 64-bit, 64GB RAM, 8TB disk storage, and more processors than you can shake a stick at). We installed the Adobe CS6 Master Collection which had Acrobat Pro X. Each time we open a PDF of size greater than roughly 4MB, the program returns an "out of memory" error. After running updates, uninstalling and reinstalling (several times), I bought a copy of Acrobat XI Pro hoping this would solve the problem. Same problem still exists upon opening the larger PDFs. Our business depends on opening very large PDF files and we've paid for the Master Collection, so I'd rather not use an freeware PDF reader. Any help, thoughts, and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Chris

As mentioned, the TEMP folder is typically the problem. MS limits the size of this folder and you have 2 choices: 1. empty it or 2. increase the size limit. I am not positive this is the issue, but it does crop up at times. It does not matter how big your harddrive is, it is a matter of the amount of space that MS has allocated for virtual memory. I am surprised that there is an issue with 64GB of RAM, but MS is real good at letting you know you can't have it all for use because you might want to open up something else. That is why a lot of big packages turn off some of the limits of Windows or use Linux.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro extended , I had a problem so I uninstalled and now wish to re-install

    Hi
Where do I download a copy of Acrobat 9 Pro extended?

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

  • Acrobat 9 Pro settings location? [for settings backup]

Anyone know where Acrobat 9 Pro settings are stored?  I'm on Windows 7 x64.  I want to copy my Acrobat 9 Pro settings from my current install to another system so that I don't have to reconfigure it again.  I want my Acrobat 9 Pro settings and the browser Acrobat plugin settings as well [or are they stored in the same location?].

Near as I can tell, the new path is  c:\users\XXX\appdata\roaming\adobe\acrobat\9.0\

  • I can't update Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

I recently took over a laptop running Win 7 Pro, and I installed a copy of Acrobat 9 Pro Extended we have never used. The installation went fine, and I have no issues running the program.
    However, when I go to Help/Check for Updates, I get a the following message;
    I went to the the Adobe website (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=Windows&product=158) for updates for this programs, I was able to install the 3D update (Ac9Ex3DUpd.msi). But when I attempted to install the next update up fom that one (AcrobatUpd911_all_incr.msp), I get the following message;
I tried the next patch up from that (AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp), and got the same message.
How do I update this program either manually through the Adobe website, or through Help/Check for Updates?

I doubt it multiple network adapters are enabled on your machine. Kindly try this:
Click on Start and type Network and Sharing Center
    Click on Change adapters settings
Now you need to disable the network adapters that are not in use. Make sure you don't disable the one which is connected to internet. Even if it shows 'Unplugged' or 'Not connected', disable it. (Right click -> Disable)
Once this is done, Acrobat will automatically start downloading the updates.
Feel free to post back the results.

  • Acrobat X Pro?

Has anyone in the group started using Acrobat X Pro for the Mac?
Can anyone clarify what it costs to upgrade from the Acrobat 9 Pro version that's included with CreativeSuite CS5 Design Premium?
I just had a REALLY confusing phone conversation with an Adobe CSR about this.
It sounds as though there is no way to start using Acrobat X Pro for Mac without spending roughly $800 to buy the full version. For some reason you can't upgrade from a copy of Acrobat that's part of CS5.
And Adobe's web site says that "If you have purchased an Upgrade Plan or have a Gold or Platinum support plan, you will be notified automatically when the next version of CS5 becomes available."
The CSR had no information on when this "next version of CS5" will be available.
    Do they just mean CS6?
When were we supposed to be offered the opportunity to purchase an "Upgrade Plan" or "Gold or Platinum support plan"?
Unless I'm misunderstanding this, I can't believe that Adobe would treat its Mac CS5 users like this.
If any of you can clarify, I'd be grateful.

There are two situations where a PDF file created in Acrobat X cannot be used in previous versions:
    - If the file has been encrypted using a 256-bit AES password policy, which was changed in Acrobat X, it will not open at all;
    - If the file is a PDF Portfolio and uses the new Acrobat X layouts, it will open in Acrobat 9.4.2 and later but only Acrobat X can edit the layout.
If you only need to open and view the above files, you can of course co-install Adobe Reader X - it plays perfectly well with Acrobat 9.
I can't comment on the purchase histories of other customers. My previous post explains the upgrade policy in place at this time, and if you try to use an upgrade edition of Acrobat X Pro it will fail the license check when applied to the bundled copy of Acrobat 9 Pro in Creative Suite.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro reinstallation gives message "Invalid Serial Number".

I just successfully deactivated a copy of Acrobat 9 Pro, insuring twice that I had accurately recorded the serial number.  Now, when I attempt to install it on another computer, I get the message "Invalid Serial Number.  This is not a valid serial number.  Please go back and re-enter your serial number."  This is going on a new computer for a staff member who needs the functionality of Pro so it is a big deal.

    Dave;
Short version – it stated with 9707 – however the ORIGINAL SN did start with 1118 and now mysteriously works.
Long Version – About 2 years ago, one of our attorneys left the firm.  We had purchased and installed 9 Pro on his PC while he was here and deactivated it on his computer when he left.  However, when we went to install it on another PC, we kept getting an invalid serial number message for the original number beginning with 1118.
Adobe tech support at that time gave us a number beginning with 9707 and it worked.  The computer it was installed on at that time is circa 2004 and is being taken out of service.  However, with 9 Pro still being a product that meets our business needs, we saw no reason to dispose of it and deactivated it.  When we went to install it on a new computer, we got the invalid serial number message on the 9707 serial number.
Yesterday, I dug the original cd case out of a box and entered the original serial number beginning with 1118 and this time it worked.  I know it was the correct box (out of our 20+ licenced copies of Acrobat)  because it still had my notes from my tech support call including the 9707 serial number.
Bottom line is that this issue appears to be solved now (he says with all 14 of his fingers crossed).
    Thanks for emailing me though.
