Could my recovery media be damaged? Would new media help me?

I've received no help with this problem as posted previously, so I thought I'd try again...with a different tack.
Previous post: http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/Windows-Vista-XP-Win7-beta/Help-Windows-never-completes-Factory-R...
Could my restore media created from the disk partition, be somehow damaged? I've done this install with this machine half dozen times and the actual Windows portion always seems to complete properly...but when the final Toshiba Information Systems piece runs...things seem to just freeze after the 2nd or 3rd restart.
There must be a portion of the install batch files that are not completing. For instance, the pointers to B2.bat & splash.exe are not being deleted from the all users startup folder, and they should be at some point...so the system starts...and either hangs forever (I let it go 7 hours once...) OR the machine just reboots after 2 or 3 minutes & either hangs or reboots...again...etc.
Hang condition can only be closed by powering off the machine manually...not a good thing in setup.
As stated in the other post, I can run the machine with no problems in safe mode or with BartPE. Runs just fine & will stay up for hours...with no issues. However...PE or Safe mode is not the way to use these machines...
My question to those who know this machine brand better than I... Will a new set of media fix this?
HELP!!!
SetiRich

Thanks Techman & Defender,
I ordered the disks (they're not expensive) and will try the WinRepair suggestion in the meantime. Pretty sure it's not mem or disk issues, since I've tested memory with MemTest 2.01 (2 passes...no errors) and the disk with BartStuff off a BartPE disk I keep around....5 hours of continuous pattern writing & reading & ... No errors there either...
Actually, I think it may be that the disks I created somehow where flaky..Also I created them while in safe mode, the only way I could get the machine to operate...other than with the BartPE disk...so it would seem (?) that most of the major h/w issues are OK...anyway..I'll let you know which & how things go as I continue my experiments with this device...

I dont have the option of CD-R on my creator..I do not have blank DVD's. Will the discs create if I use CD-r's?? Would have been nice to know I needed DVD's to begin with!!

I turned on my HP Pavillion TouchSmart 14-b109wm however the screen went blue with "Recovery" written on it. It also said it needs installation media.
I tried the hard reset it did not work.
I looked for a USB version of the installation media but the HP support page does not have my laptop as a product in the list for some reason.

  • Can't Install Recovery Media To New Hard drive

To begin with, I know very little about computers as you will soon see. I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE L650-ST3NX1 which started giving me a message from both Toshiba and Windows that I needed to back up my data because of a possible hard drive failure. I tried backing up my data to an external hard drive but that failed. (I do have a backup of my hard drive from last year).I ordered a new SSD and the Recovery Media from Toshiba. I assumed that I could just load the OS from the Recovery Media onto the new SSD but found that wouldn't work. I ran the Recovery Media on the old hard drive but it wouldn't complete. I tried erasing everything off the old hard drive but that also wouldn't complete. Now when I plug the USB Recovery Median into the computer it won't recognize it. I think I've probably done just about everything wrong that I could. Am I out of options? Did I just waste my money on a new SSD and the Recovery Media?

So, a little more info on what's going on. I installed a new SSD, ran the Recovery Media USB, and recieved the error F3-F100-0003. Went into the Utility Setup and HDD/SDD shows NONE. I assume this means that no hard drive is being recognized. When I reinstalled the failed HDD and went back into Utility Setup, it was recognized. Can Toshiba Recovery Media be loaded onto a new HDD/SDD? I've been researching this online and it seems that quite a few people have had the same problem but it seems that no one associated with Toshiba can or wants to provide any answers. When I spoke with a Toshiba representative before purchasing the Recovery Media I was assured that I would be able to install it onto a new HDD/SDD. It seems that if Toshiba is going to sell SSD's and Recovery Media they should be informed about and support what they are selling. This is pretty frustrating and $$$.

  • Re: How to install Windows from recovery media on a new hard drive?

Immediately after a Windows update, my computer would not restart. It said disk error.
I could not start it from the recovery media and F8 would not work. I bought and installed a new hard drive. Now when I put in the recovery media to install Windows on the new hard drive, it gives an error message.
What can this be? Should I be able to install Windows from the recovery media?
It is Windows 7 and the laptop is Satellite A500, 64 bit.

    Hello
Generally speaking you can install recovery image on every compatible HDD so thee should not be any problem about it.
Please tell us what happen when you start recovery installation. Which error message is shown?
Is new HDD recognized in BIOS. Before you start recovery installation set BIOS to default settings.

  • Restore Windows 7 from Recovery Media on brand new SSD

    Hey all,
    a. I have a brand new Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD which I want to install on my x230t.
    b. I have already created a recovery media disc on a 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive.
    c. I have already updated all drivers (and BIOS) on currently installed mechanical hard drive.
So the question is simple, how do I use that to restore to factory settings on brand new SSD? I don't want to:
    1. clone the current mechanical drive and
    2. I don't want to follow this guide as this installs a fresh copy of Windows 7 by downloading the a standard installation ISO and then installing the drivers included in the "SWTOOLS" folder in the C Drive. I want to use the factory recovery disk I created on an USB flash drive as that install all drivers and turn computer to factory state (all at the same time).

Recovery media is actually a clone.  At the Lenovo factory, we preload your system by installing the OS, drivers, and software.  The very last step of the preload process is to create an image of the preloaded HDD using imagex, and this is what is on the Q drive of the Win7 preload.  So if you were to use the recovery media you created, all you are doing is restoring a image (clone) of the HDD as it left the Lenovo factory.  This is what you say you don't want to do.
If it were me, I would install the fresh copy of Win7, manually install the WLAN driver and System Update from the X230 driver matrix, and then let Windows Update and System Update do the rest...
Recovery media is OK, but you are left with a 1+ year old preload and still have to run Windows Update and System Update to download hundreds of updates.  Might as well just start with a fresh install and accomplish the same thing.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 "recovery media" on new Portege R600

I received a new R600 which I had wanted to buy with Windows 7 pre-installed, but the only option is to buy it with XP installed and "Windows 7 recovery media" (2 CDs) comes in the box, with no instructions. I started the computer, and did nothing but name it and choose a screen name; this brought up the desktop. Then I inserted the first of the 2 CDs: nothing. Powered off and started with that CD already in the disk drive: nothing. Called Toshiba tech help (phone seemed to be answered in India) and was instructed to perform several restarts holding down F12 or C: nothing. After a long hold while the tech sought help, was promised a call from his supervisor: so far (that was yesterday) nothing.
Can anyone suggest how I can either solve this issue myself or get some action from Toshiba?

Thanks for your reply. After two more calls to Toshiba Tech Help it turns out that the disc drive is defective (a music CD would not load and play). So I am returning the computer to Toshiba Direct in exchange for a new one.

  • How to create *NEW* set of Recovery Media?

    Hello -
Accidentally scratched my Recovery DVDs by leaving them in my laptop bag (ie. have external HDs, external slim DVD writer, etc...) in there. How do I re-create a *new* set of recovery media on my T61p since the option is now grey'd out?
    Thanks,
    Michel

Do you know of any place in your area that would resurface discs? There is a store thats owned by Hollywood Video called "Game Crazy" and they do that all the time think its like $2 per resurface also check out used game stores in your area and see if they have disc resurfacing capabilities.
Word of warning, Those do it yourself scratch removal kits, and products like scratch doctor or skip doctor will actually make things worse!

  • Getting New Hard disk from Toshiba for E45t-A4100 . Do I still need recovery media

    Hi,
My hard drive crashed and after the online troubleshooting was directed to go for a new hard drive which I did as the laptop is in warranty.
However I am asked to get a recovery media too(as I do not have one created earlier).
My query is will the new hard drive not come with windows preinstalled. What extra will the recovery media have to help me. (Sorry if the questions sound dumb)
    Thanks

New hard drive is blank, recovery media is needed.
If the drive you have will load in safe mode you could try to burn your own recovery media, if not you will have to order recovery media.

  • Unable to create recovery media on a new T440

    Hello,
I am new here. I have a brand new T440 which I am populating and customising.
I created a new partition on the HDD using MiniTool Partition Wizzard. That may have created the problem - I can't create the recovery media. I get a message that the files are not there. I should have done it before partitioning - too late now.
However, using the Partition Wizzard, I can assign a drive letter to the Recovery partition, and it becomes visible in Windows Explorer (File manager). I can copy the content on an external HD drive.
If I ever need to do recovery - will it work from this? Has anybody tried this before?

  • NB305-02P Attempt to create recovery media damaged format of USB drive?

Twice now, I've tried to created a recovery record using 16 Gb USB drives. Different makes of drive, one I have been using previously on an XP computer, works fine there. In both cases, the attempt to create the recovery record resulted in a USB drive that was unusable. The Creator program calls for the re-format of the USB drive, that fails, and then the drive is indicated in Windows as having zero capacity, plus it cannot be re-formatted by any method I've tried so far.
What I'd like most, of course, is a way to repair the failed drives. Failing that is there a specific method I can use, with a new drive, to avoid this problem?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi egrivel,
As stated above, there is no option to create optical recovery media.  You can use a flash drive.  8G 16G I believe, but verify that when running the utility.  Make sure "copy the recovery partition" is checked.

I've had my new iMac for about a week now and am totally sick ofthe vagueries of Mavericks,
I would appreciate any help you guys could give me to help me 'downgrade' to Mountain Lion.
I understand that Mountain Lion has never been released on disc, so that would seem to be the major problem.

If the Mac came pre-installed with Mavericks you can't downgrade. Have a look at mine and den.thed's comments here:

I have just changed over from a computer that was 11 years old, running Windows 98, to a new computer running Windows XP. With my old computer I could easily download video clips, they would open and play as soon as the download had ended. Now I have to click on the download box and click on "Play". Also, when I wanted to keep a clip, I just right clicked and a menu appeared and I would then click on "Save as" or similar. Now there doesn't appear to be any way to save the clips. Apart from a faster and more powerful computer I feel I've gone backwards. Can anyone help?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Recovery Media Creation no longer available on New laptop

I have just received a new G255 laptop.  First thing I did was try to create recovery media. HP Recovery Manager states "Create a set of recovery media for your system (Recovery Partition has been removed - The Recovery media creation option is no longer Available)
It also states Recovery Partition has been removed, but there is a Recovery (D drive showing with 2.14GB free of 19.6 GB
The recovery partition, when clicked on is empty, even after making hidden files show.
Is there any way to get recovery media, ot should i return the laptop?

    Hi:
If you live in the USA/Canada call this number and you can order a set of recovery media.
    1-800-334-5144
Have the serial number handy to give to the customer services rep.
Or you can see if you can return it to where you purchased it from.

  • Reinstall Windows 8 on workstation with no recovery media and new hard drive.

Hello. I am needing help with a specific request.
We have a workstation what is running Windows 8. The hard drive failed. The machine has no recovery media that was created, however it is orderable through HP.
With that in mind, where are the tools for IT Pros to reinstall Windows 8 from .ISO or USB media, as we could do in Windows 7 and previous versions?
Windows 8 keeps the license key stored in the BIOS from what I read, and one option is using an .ISO for Windows 8 from an MSDN account. The install will scan the BIOS for the key, find it, and will activate Windows 8.
We are Silver Partner. currently we are turning people away or telling them they must have their Factory Recovery Media for us to reinstall Windows 8 after hard drive failures, since we cannot find any .ISO available, and there is no plain Product Key on
    the machine.

    Hi ,
"one option is using an .ISO for Windows 8 from an MSDN account."I am afraid it will not work.
The copy of Windows that the OEM installs on a computer is valid only on that unique computer, so it can only be reinstalled and reactivated from the OEM-provided recovery media on that computer. So
I am afraid an .ISO for Windows 8 from an MSDN account won`t be activated automatically.

1.I agree with britishdhez, the best way to solved this issue is contactting the manufacture for a recovery media.
