Count Events buffered with 6210

Hi all,
I just recently posted a question about timestamping:
 http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=365874#M365874
After a lot of reading I realize that maybe I need to buy a new card as suggested here: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=40&message.id=4734&query.id=11657#M4734
I was wondering what would be the fastest clock I can use for continoues event counting using the USB 6210 (or any other Bus Powered M Series devices).
Did anyone try to use this card for period measurements with 1 counter when the signal is random? I want to make sure this card can be used with an APD (which sometimes gives a high frequency burst of pulses) before I make a purchase.
Thanks,
Eyal

Hello Eyal,
The USB-6210 can count at up to 80 MHz, which is determined by the rate of the fastest internal base clock of the device.  Information about National Instruments devices can easily be found through the product pages, the specifications tab gives general information about the device that can be useful in comparing between different devices, while the detailed specifications and the data sheet (links under the specifications tab) give more detailed information.
The USB-6210 product page details the Maximum Source Frequency at 80 MHz.
As for using only 1 counter on this device for period measurements, as long as the signal is low frequency this should be fine.  But, if you are expecting the signal to vary in frequency, it may be a better idea to use 2 counters.  For more information on period measurement with a counter check out Developer Zone Tutorial: Period Measurement with a Counter

    Greetings.
    I am simply trying to synchronize AI readings with readings from one Counter.
    I am trying to perform buffered analog input synchronized with buffered counter acquisition.
    I'd like the AI acquistion to trigger the Counter acquistion.
    I'm currently setting the Sample Clock Source for the CI Cnt Edges Task to "Dev1/ai/SampleClock" but when I try and set the source for the "DAQmx Trigger" I can't seem to select one that works. I assumed that the source should be the "Dev1/ai/StartTrigger" but that produces and error as does selecting any of the PFI's.
    I'm new to DAQmx and didn't have any luck with the examples or what's been previously posted.
    Thanks for your help.

    Gentlemen-
    All of your initial help was great. I had some noise on my counter lines so switched from an E-Series card to a PCI-6259 M-series card in order to use the counter digital filters.
    Now I can't get a corellated buffered counter and buffered analog input acquistion to work. This same code worked fine on an E-series card but it doesn't on the M-series.
    I verified that the source and gate of the counter are working properly using the test panel and a external function generator.
    But when I run the attached code I get no data out of the "Counter 1D U32 NSamples", only an error saying that the timeout of the function was reached and no count data became available. Am I missing the specification of a another clock or something?
    The counters also work fine using the M-series example code "Count Digital Events (M-Series DAQmx) but this is not a buffered acquisition.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I count events during a given time with 2 counters (6025 E)

    Hi, How can I count events during a given time (1 sec for example) with 2 counters:
    what is the best way?
    how should i configurate both counter?
    i have done the 1st counter in ev_counter with the gate being the output of the 2nd; and how can i say to the 2nd to trig the first after 1 sec counting? (trig at start and at end) what are the functoins calls in NIDAQ. i am using Visual C++

    Greetings,
    When you perform event counting a gate signal can be added such that if a low signal occurs on the gate, then the counter will pause. When a high signal is seen, the counter will continue counting edges. When you install the NI-DAQ driver you should have installed the examples for Visual C++. The counter examples are found in \Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\VisualC\Ctr. Take a look at STCeventCount.C. Be sure to only use STC examples with your hardware. The E-series boards contain the DAQ-STC chip.
    Now, all you need is a gate signal with a width (high time) of 1 second. You could use an external frequency or pulse generator to do this. Or, you could just use the second counter found on your PCI-6025E board. In this
    case you could configure the second counter to generate a single pulse. Take a look at the STCgenerateSinglePulse.C example. As long as the pulse is in a high state for one second you can use it to gate (or time) your counting of events.

  • How to count ONLY fields with a specific value

    I modified the code below from the API reference to count combobox fields with a value of "MT" so I could total the number of a specific choice the form user input.
    var count = 0;
    for (var i=0; i<this.numFields; i++)
    var fname = this.getNthFieldName(i);
    if ( this.getField(fname).type == "combobox" && this.getField(fname).value == "MT" ) count++;
    this.getField("mTurb").value = count.value;
    Here's the problem: I tried to use a similar script, modified only slightly from this form, in another total field to tally a different choice made with comboboxes and the script continues to tally the first choice. An example of one of the modified versions of the script is below.
    var gcount = 0;
    for (var i=0; i<this.numFields; i++)
    var gname = this.getNthFieldName(i);
    if ( this.getField(gname).type == "combobox" && this.getField(gname).value == "MT" ) gcount++;
    this.getField("gPack").value = gcount.value;
    I suspect I'm just missing something painfully obvious to seasoned scripters, but I can't seem to figure it out and I need this script to be able to count the number of 9 different options in the comboboxes.

    OK, you can use a script like the following as the custom calculate script for the text fields that perform the counts:
    // Custom calculate script for text field
    (function () {
        // Declare and initialize variables
        var fn, s = "MT", count = 0;
        // Loop through the combo boxes
        for (var i = 1; i < 25; i++) {
            // Determine the current field name
            fn = "M" + util.printf("%02d", i));
            // See if the field value matches
            if (getField(fn).valueAsString === s) count++
        // Set this field value to the count
        event.value = count;
    Change the value of the "s" variable to match the item that you want to count. The first and last lines prevent the unnecessary creatio of global variables, which is good. It also makes it easy to transfer to a more general document-level routine, which would be event better, something like:
    // Custom calculate script for text field
    function getCBCount(s) {
        var fn, count = 0;
        // Loop through the combo boxes
        for (var i = 1; i < 25; i++) {
            // Determine the current field name
            fn = "M" + util.printf("%02d", i));
            // See if the field value matches
            if (getField(fn).valueAsString === s) count++
        // Set this field value to the count
        event.value = count;
    You would then call this function from the individual text boxes with the following custom calculate script:
    getCBCount("MT");
    and replace "MT" with the vlaue you want to count.

  • Events problem with (Java and ActiveX)

    Hi,
    I use an ActiveX component with Java and i've got a problem with events.
    Java classes were generated with Bridge2Java (IBM).
    In order to manage events I added a listener in my application :
         javaMyActiveX = new MyActiveX();
         javaMyActiveX.add_DMyActiveXEventsListener(new _DMyActiveXEventsAdapter());
    I also added a constructor in the _DMyActiveXEventsAdapter class and I fill the body of methods.
    The ActiveX generates two types of events :
    - The ones are directly generated by methods.
    - The others are generated by a thread.
    With MS Products (VB, Visual C++, Visual J++), I catch all events.
    With java (jdk 1.4), I catch only events generated by methods.
    Can anyone help me.

    I'm not 100% sure, but the last time I used that bridge, it only worked if you ran your Java app within a Microsoft VM.

  • Can I have multiple event structures with the same event cases?

    Hello,
    I'm doing an application that reproduces the front panel of the HP6675A power supply. To achieve this, I have done a state machine with different states
    (initialize, measures, voltage, current, ocp, ov, store, recall, etc). In each state, should have an event structure that catches the events of the buttons, like for example: if the current state is the Voltage mode and the user press the current button the next state will be the Current mode. For this in each state of the state machine should be the same event structure with the same events.
    My problem is that the Vi doesn't work properly when I have multiple event structures with the same event cases. There are some possibily to do this, and how? Or is impossible to have multiple events? I have been reading some posts, but I don't find solutions.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

    Or as others mentioned, make two parallel loops.  In one loop, have your state machine.  In the other, have just the Event Handler.  Pass the events from the handler to the state machine by way of queues.
    A proper state machine will not need the second loop.  The "Wait For Event" or "Idle" state (whatever you want to call it) is all you really need in order to catch the user button presses.  The setup is almost there.  Maybe add a shift register to keep track of which state to go to in the case of a timeout on the Event Structure.

  • Synchronizing two counter frequency inputs with multiple analog inputs

    Hello all,
    I'm fairly new to LabVIEW and I'm trying to collect data from multiple sources with synchronized timing on the acquisition but I'm having trouble figuring it out. My problem is that I've got two counter frequency inputs, one optical tachometer reading one pulse per revolution, and a max machinery flow meter with a k factor of 12000. I can't seem to figure out how to sync the timing with my multiple analog inputs. I've been attempting to get the tachometer  to sync with the analog inputs first by following the example linked here. (https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-10785) So far each time I run it I either get a timeout error on the DAQmx read or a "Multiple sample clock pulses were detected" error (see attached image).  It seems if I slow the sampling rate way down to say 10 hz and ensure that the tachometer signal is over 800-1000 RPM (13-17 Hz) before starting the VI then the program will run without errors until the RPM drops below that threshold then the "Multiple sample clock pulses" error occurs.  The code is attached below.
    Does anyone know of a more effective way of syncing counter frequency inputs with analog inputs?  I'd like to have a VI that can show 0 RPM (and eventually 0 flow as well, but I think I need to figure out the timing of one counter before I add another as it seems I can't have two counters in the same task). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Maybe third times the charm?
    So I've finally got a good handle on why the VI is having problems at low RPM though I'm somewhat embarassed how long it took me to do that
    Because I have the counter time synced to my Analog input task if it doesn't see at least two pulses between the two clock pulses set by the analog input task I get the -201314 "Multiple sample clock pulses" error. This seems fine at first as it just sets a minimum RPM that I can measure and it's well below the area I'm interested in so no problems there.  I tried a simple error handler that would clear the error when it happend assuming the loop would keep iterating until the RPM went above that minimum at which point I would get a signal again. This is not the case, the read function just continues to spit out the -201314 error even after the RPM is back in the readable range. So then I tried adding two case structures so that when the error occured it would stop the task, clear the error, and then start the task again on the next loop iteration (Code Attached). This also doesn't work as the error shows up again on the stop task and then AGAIN on the start task on the next loop iteration. It seems this error is not actually being cleared and once it happens it stays with the task regardless of what the error cluster is carrying.
    Anyone have any ideas?  The only solution I can think of is to just clear all tasks and recreate them each loop iteration until the RPM is readable again but that strikes me as a horribly clunky solution.

  • Help with Event Handlers with Scope

    I have a question of how I must implement the event handlers with scope, I have problems in the execution of processes BPEL (they are generating exceptions in the dehydration)
    I have two models for event handlers and I need to know which is the best way to implement event handlers.

    Would this be the correct sample code to use? :

    It seems to work (although someone cautions in the page
    comments that it doesn't).
    Part of my trouble in working with AS 2.0 is that I feel I
    shouldn't have to do such complicated things (Delegate classes,
    etc) in order to get simple things done (loading XML files). This
    is not a complaint per se -- rather I feel that I must be missing
    something, that it is my inexperience that is causing me to bend
    through so many hoops: programming "should" be elegant and simple.
    So, any links helpful. Thanks.

  • Event creation with status management

    Hello esteemed gurus ... it's your friendly workflow noob again
    It seems once people get a sniff that there is a someone who knows a bit about workflow in the company, everyone wants a piece of you!
    So... I have been asked to setup a workflow that will trigger when a user changes a user status on an SD contract. I've done some reading and I believe I'm nearly there but need a little help ...
    I have setup event creation with transaction BSVZ for object category VBK, specified my status profile, and business object BUS2034 and I'm using the event "CHANGED", within this I have set a status restriction to particular status of my user status profile.
    In my workflow definition I have specified the start event "CHANGED" for my business object BUS2034.
    The thing is, the workflow starts for every change to the contract, whereas I was expecting it to only start when the particular status I defined in my status management was set in the contract header.
    Are there any additional settings I need to make in order to restrict the starting conditions of the this workflow?
    Many thanks once again.
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
    There is two options to restrict the workflow.
    First one is start condition. You can check the workflow log. If your required field is populated in the Workflow container you can use start condition to restrict the workflow. In the Basic data of workflow template, Start condition is there. You can use the condition editor to set the condition.
    If your field is not populated by default, then you can use check function module for this. You need to create one FM, and in transaction swe2, the FM needs to be Configured. The concept is, based on the Sales document number you can get the required field and check the condition inside the FM. If the condition satisfied just leave it. The workflow will be triggered. If the condition is not satisfied raise a Exception. So that the Workflow will not be triggered.
    Thanks,
    Viji.

    Need to monitor event ID with Event Level :Critical , Also how to generate (powershell or otherwise) an event with Event Level :Critical

    Hi
    First, we Need to clarify what do you want.
    1) You want to Monitor a Windows Event with the severity "Error" (there is no Critical for Windows Events, only Error").
    2) You want to create an Event in SCOM. I think you if you talk about "Event" in SCOM you mean actually an Alert.
    There is no direct way like a tool/powershell script  of only creating an Alert in SCOM only if you are going to use the SCOM SDK
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh329086.aspx or using the Orchestrator Create Alert activity.
    If you want to create a SCOM alert depending on a Windows Event you either can create a rule
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff730470.aspx or a Monitor

  • Iphoto events showing with key photo of a palm tree in gray?

    iphoto events showing with key photo of a palm tree in gray? Also indicates no photos but there are photos within the event??

    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
