Cover crack issue on Satellite P100

The outer plastic of my laptop started cracking near the hinges. I phoned Toshiba a while ago and they said that because it was just cosmetic damage, it wasn't covered in the warranty.
However it has gotten worse over time and part of the plastic has now broken off and I'm sure it will eventually lead to me needing to get it repaired. Is there a way I can contact Toshiba via email?
My warranty has now run out.

Hi there,
unfortunately there is no email support but I would suggest you to contact the nearest available servicepartner from toshiba and talk with them. The link to find one is here:

Good luck and nice weekend

  • Satellite P100: Cover hinge cracks

Jeffrey said that technicians replaced something inside the cover, and then all was well.
I would very much like to know what they did, so that I can ask for the same!
The cover on my P100 has been changed twice already but has failed again in the same place, by the left hinge, after very little use.

    Hallo Allend
Toshiba have just repaired my Satellite P100 for the third time, under guarantee, although the initial period had expired.
This time they asked me to send it back for "expert attention" direct to Toshiba, rather than to an approved repair agent.
The cover looks better this time - previously there was an uneven finish over the hinge fixings which is where the cover split.
The repair note states that the cover and both hinges have been replaced, and that the replacement parts have been "updated to finally resolve the problem". This is a rough translation from French.
If I were you I would insist that only these the new parts are used.

  • Satellite P100: Graphic card Issues

I have had problems with overheating... but before we get into that,
How can I figure out exactly what model I have?
I know I have a P100, but I'm looking on the bottom of my laptop and it offers no clue as to what type of P100 it is.
I want to know because I'm trying to find the most recent display driver for my laptop, which has a 7600 GeForce Go.
Also, I have very severe problems with overheating, and my laptop shuts down automatically when I run even the most basic of video programs for too long.
I want to clean up the dust in the heatsink/fan but I have no idea how to open up the laptop to do it.
This is a lot of issues for one post so thanks for any help.

    Hello
On the bottom side there must be a label with model number. Can you find it? can you post model or serial number? Anything?
What to say about overheating? Satellite P100 is older notebook model and I can imagine that dust blocks cooling grill and notebook hardware cannot be cooled down properly. The best way to make notebook clean is disassembling but you do not have maintenance manuals and you should not do this alone. All you can do is to use vacuum cleaner.
If you want to do this on professional way, contact service. At the moment try to place notebook a little bit higher, maybe on 4 CD boxes or something. So you will have more distance between desk and your Satellite notebook.

  • Satellite P100-105L: WLan connection issues

    i have following problem.
have Satellite P100-105 notes, with XP home. All drivers up to date, connecting via WiFi.
When i connect to internet via IE7/IE6/Mozilla/Opera some times i have just message "waiting for reply from ....." in statusbar, and the page wont load.
If i refresh its ok, or at some pages it just dont work even if i refresh (typically on typo 3 saving document).
    1. i have no viruses, no trojans.
    2. tryed with IE without addons, allso with IE when i was in "safe mode" of XP.
    3. Downloaded latest WIFI drivers, latest bios.
    4. when i try it on other notes from toshiba, else model with win vista on IE7, it works normally. Allso when i upload/download huge files, its ok.
    5. have legal, and up to date windows XP with SP2
so i can say 4 things:
    1. its not caused by signal,
    2. its browsing soft independant.
    3. it may be not caused by HW error, if it would, large downloads/uploads will fail
    4. any other software it is in memory in normal state, its not causing this.
    SOMEBODY HELPPP
    its very, very annoying.

    >When i connect to internet via IE7/IE6/Mozilla/Opera some times i have just message "waiting for reply from ....." in statusbar, and the page wont load.
You said sometimes??? So I assume it does not happen every time while you are using the WLan.
    >4. When i try it on other notes from Toshiba, else model with win vista on IE7, it works normally. Also when i upload/download huge files, its ok.
The both notebooks use the same WLan card? If not then there could be a compatibility issue between the router and WLan card
But generally its not easy to say what the problem could be. Did you check of the same message appears using the LAN cable?
    Check this!

  • Cover splitting near the hinges on Satellite P100

The orange cover on my Satellite P100 keeps splitting by the hinges, even though I now take great care in opening and closing the lid. Toshiba have replaced it under warranty.
I think the hinge friction is too strong for the cover. Does anyone have a similar problem and if so what can we do?
It seems pointless to just keep replacing the cover each time.

A friend of mine has sent the notebook to replace the upper cover and everything was done for free!!! The warranty has covered the replacement.
The ASP technicians has changed the faulty part and said that new top cover was usedSeems they changed something on the cover near the hinges because until now everything is ok
Happy new year to all :)

  • Satellite P100-434 startup issue BSOD

    Hello everybody!
I have Toshiba Satellite P100-434 laptop and lately I have encountered many problems during the startup.
    1. The laptop starts normally up to the writing the password. Then, in the middle of typing BSOD.
    2. The laptop gets BSOD or turns off about 2 seconds after the Microsoft bar has appeared.
    3. The laptop doesn't turn on - after launch there is only one flash of three blue diodes on the right and the screen stays blank. No Toshiba welcome screen.
After few attempts I succeed with getting the Toshiba welcome screen (it's after the second flash), but there are another issues later, the laptop turns off or tries to Launch Startup Repair. It says only about unspecified error and restores back to the previous state.
    4. I tried to enter the Safe Mode, but few times I encountered the same: the laptop turns off after loading some drivers.
BSOD are too short for me to spot what is going on - I spotted only BAD POOL something and IRQL NOT EQUAL something as if it was something with drivers, presumably the NVIDIA display driver. I uninstalled it and downloaded new one and installed it (version 7.15.11.5666). Ths is NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. Once there was some information about dxgkrnl.sys?
I did Windows Memory Test at startup - no errors.
I scanned for any viruses: my AVG removed some Cryptor virus, but the problem still is there.
The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2.
I don't know what is the problem. Is it the display driver or any other driver? Or maybe some power related problems? Any advice welcome!

    Additional information:
Yesterday I encountered again the same problem: BSOD during typing the password: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL; STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8888E1E3), disk.sys address 8888E1E3 base of 88880000, DateStamp 49e01ef2.
I turned the laptop off manually and after 30 some attempts I succeeded with switching it on again (up to then there was no Toshiba welcome screen and the display remained blank) to meet up with another BSOD shortly after launch of Windows:
    STOP 0x0000000A (0x0000000B, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0x8B48F3AD)
The next launch the system made the CHKDSK. There were plenty of index entries being deleted, but there were not bad sectors or anything. When I finally got through all this, I did another diagnostic of the HDD, but it showed no problems.
Anyway: I would like to know whether the problem is hardware or rather software related, because I wouldn't take my laptop to repair if there is something I could do by downloading/reinstalling.

  • Satellite P100 - 1 1/2" band down center of screen

    Hi,
I have a Satellite P100 apx 18mths old with a 1 1/2" light band down the center of the LCD, not a problem when I use an external monitor.
I've been told its probably the LCD at fault but at this age this is not good news, has anyone else had his problem?
I dont want to be put off of Toshiba as my daughter wants a new laptop, but this doesnt help.
My LCD is LP171wx2 and I believe it may be xga, if it needs replacing can I put in wxga?
    Thanks, Steve.

    Hi Guys,
I've got the same problem with my P100 as well and its only 18 months old !
The screen can cost around 300-400 pounds.
Also the hinges at the back have cracked the plastic cover at the back - apparently Toshiba are aware of this.
The thing is my laptop never gets moved around and I wonder if this hinge issue is having a greater affect than I think i.e. damaging the LCD screen/cabling as well due to shell weakness.
I think its time to talk to ASP.
    Regards. Mohammed.

  • What's new in BIOS 4.50 - Satellite P100-332

    Hi, a
nyone know whats the new functions on the new BIOS 4.50 for Satellite P100-332? Cause i try to click on "Toshiba Bios information" and he just loop again to the same web page... Is there anyone that knows whats new? or in a log file?

    Hi guys
I can tell you that this a old story and I read about such stuttering long time ago
Many people have reported that this issue could be solved by BIOS and nVidia driver update!
This is also mentioned here in this Toshiba FAQ:
[New video driver and BIOS eliminates video 'stutter' during game play (Windows Vista) |http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1924 764xml&sliceId=&dialogID=69796173&stateId=1 0 69794207]
So there is a solution, definitely!

  • Error message for liveupdate engine COM module - Satellite P100

I have a Satellite P100 using Windows Vista home premium, and upgraded cable internet plans with Optus over the weekend to the Fusion89 plan.
Since then internet has been slow to open (up to 25 seconds when I click on a new tab), and attachments are slow to open from E-mails.
I also keep receiving an error message from Microsoft Windows stating "liveupdate engine COM module stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available".
I have contacted Microsoft who said they would help me for a fee, but as I have the laptop under an extended warranty, they suggested I contact the people I bought it from or Tochiba. Before I contact Clive Peters soes anyone have any comments or suggestions regarding my issues?
Any assistance will be much appreciated.

    Try this:
Go to a Command Prompt and run "CHKDSK C: /F"
Run WindowsUpdate / update Internet Explorer
Try disabling your Antivirus software or Firewall software.
If you installed Optus/connection software, update the software.
Ensure the ISP (optus) proxy settings are correct in IE and the email software.

  • Satellite P100-347: Blue screen appears on start up - unable to boot volume

Recently I left my 2 younger brothers playing NFS Carbon on my satellite P100-347, preinstalled with media centre 2005 edition, and now it fails to startup.
During the startup process eventually a blue screen is displayed for about a second and then it shutsdown (I manged to make out the words "unable to boot volume" from the blue screen).
I tried booting with an XP media centre DVD but it only gives me an option of reinstalling the OS with a price of losing all my very important data. Normally I would have recovered the system but I don't want to lose my data.
Is there anything i can do other than taking it to a technician?

    Hi
Well, mostly the BSOD appears due to a hardware problem or serious software issue.
In your case the software problem is possible
Unfortunately, I think the new OS installation is the best way to get the notebook running correctly.
Now you want to know how to save the data and files well, I think you should remove the HDD from notebook and should try to connect the 2.5 HDD via external USB controller to another computer. Then you could save the files on the other HDD
I think, now you know that the regular backups are important and necessary!!!!

  • How can i reinstall cd/dvd drive - Satellite P100 PSPAD

    Hi
I have Satellite P100 (PSPAD), and my cd/dvd drive (I dont know how or when) suddenly disappeard, it does not appear in my computer or device manager,
I tried this but coul not find the lowerfilters so i delite the upperfilter and restart the computer but that did not work.
So can I reinstall it somehow and how do i do it?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2.
You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values.
To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
    3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
    4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
    5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
    6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
    7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    Hi guys
    Just one question;
Are you able to boot from the bootable disk like Toshiba recovery disk, Windows XP CD, Vista DVD or Linux live CD???
If yes, then you should try to reinstall the OS.
If not then this would mean that the CD/DVD drive malfunctions.
    *@BlackJack_1*
You said the CD/DVD drive has been recognized by BIOS.
Do you see the whole CD/DVD drive title/name or you can see just the CD/DVD drive option.
You should also test if you can boot from one of the mentioned disk and to ensure that this is not a hardware issue!

  • DVD drive does not burn/erase rewritables - Satellite P100-347

    Hello,
I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite p100-347 PSPA6E laptop. It has a DVD Burner with model number: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N (firmware pt06). It has capabilities to burn all types of dvds (please see example using dvdino: http://tinyurl.com/2hbpqv ).
However, i cannot rewrite on my Maxell dvd+rw (1.4x speed) dvd. everytime i go to a software application to erase a dvd i've written on, it says format not recognised. For example Nero says "This disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc".
The disc is rewritable because it says on the cover and also it burns on my friends rewritable dvd burner :(
Please can someone help :( i am really stuck and it would be much apreciated
    Jas

    Hello all,
thank you for your replies. Still no luck wth DLA :(. i installed DLA and i get the message 'write-once media such as CD-R or DVD-R is not supported by DLA' even though the dvd is a MAXELL Dvd+RW.
Now here is the strange part. I just borrowed a friends dvd external rewriter which burns the maxell dvd i have been using... it seems like that does not work on my laptop either now and works fine on my friends computer. perhaps it is not the dvd burner that is the problem but some setting on my pc. can someone please help :(.

  • Can I install WXP Professional on my Satellite P100?

    Hello
I have the Satellite P100 - PSPA3C-SD300E laptop and I need to install Win Xp Pro
The laptop came with Win XP home but I need to use a few programs (Microsoft Virtual PC) that require Win XP Pro
Does anyone know of any known issues of using XP Pro on this laptop? I am going to take a guess that there are no issues since it is only 3 months old but I wanted to check.
It would be great if anyone has any views as I intend to upgrade tomorrow
    Thanks in advance
    Message was edited by: Ben2006

    Hi
If you want to install WinXP Pro you have to install firstly the OS and then all the Toshiba drivers and utilities in the right order.
The Win XP Home and Pro uses the same drivers. The difference between Pro and Home is not very big. The Pro has more administration and configuration functions which you can control yourself. The Home version was designed for common Windows users.
Anyway, what you have to do is to install the drivers after the Os installation and you should follow the installation guide line which you can find on the Toshiba driver page.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P100 will not stay in hibernate mode

    Hi everyone~
    Satellite P100
    Vista
Before going to bed I always put my computer in hibernate mode. It won't stay in hibernate mode. I'm not talking about sleep mode here.
I click the start button then choose hibernate. It goes into hibernate and I go to bed so I don't know when it goes out of hibernate mode.
I used to have to press the power button to get it up and running after it went into hibernate. Along the front of the computer are 5 blue lights. I will call them a,b,c,d, and e.
d&e are generally off when I'm using the computer.
a, b, and c are lit up when I'm on the computer. When it goes into hibernate mode b goes out.
When I get up in the morning a,b and c are all back on and all I have to do is move my mouse around then log on instead of first pressing the power button.
I have some scheduled tasks but I've always had those.
Please help. Is there a setting I can do to take care of this issue? TIA

You can create an on task!!!
    - go to Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler- In the far right pane, click Create Basic Task.
    - In the Create Basic Task Wizard, type the name of your task then click Next.
    - schedule based on the calendar, click Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or One time and click Next.
    - Leave Start a program selected and click Next.
    - For Program/script, use this path C:\Windows\System32\Wuapp.exe (but you path could be different).
    - Click Next and then click Finish.
For details you coudl also check this MS page:
    [Schedule a task - How to|http://207.46.197.98/Windows/en-US/Help/d2a0a504-6a29-4358-b04b-d4bd1abf36c51033.mspx]
_But if you want to change ONLY the Windows update then go here:_
    - Control Panel -> Windows Update
    - On the left click Change settings
    - There you can set the date and time when the update should be installed

  • Satellite P100 does not boot up using Intel WLan 5300

Has anyone replaced the Satellite P100 with one of these Intel WLan 5300 card.
Using being when I plug it into the pci slot and boot up my lappy, nothing happens.
However when I plug my Intel Wlan 3945abg card back in everything boots up fine.
    Whats the problems??

    Hi
I think you used simply a not compatible WLan card
As far as I know the notebook has been already equipped with a miniPCI WLan card and according to your posting the notebook is running properly using the previous WLan card
If you want to solve this issue -> use the supported WLan card!
