CP4: slide stuck if user skips the quiz

Hi,
Wondering if anyone could shed some light on where I'm going wrong here. I've got a CP4 project with some instructional slides at the beginning followed by few question slides.
Although these question slides are the "graded" type, I wanted to give the user the ability to retry the questions as much as they like, because they are to be a practice of what they've learnt rather than assess.  To achieve this I've set each question slide with "inifinite attempts" option, also set infinite attempts for the quiz preference - "if failing grade" option - so that the learner can revisit the information slides and retry the questions.  I've also set the quiz requirement setting as "Optional - the user can skip this quiz" so that users can just browse through the questions without trying them. The "show score at end of quiz" option is disabled (screenshot) because I don't want to show a score as these questions aren't suppose to be assessed.
After the question slides I've got an information slide (let's call it slide 'F1') with just "back" and "next" buttons.  The back button goes to the previous question slide and the "Next" button is set to go to the next (let's call it the 'Final slide') slide, which also has a back button.  Simples....well that's what I thought.
When testing this project in action, I noticed a small navigation issue.  If I skip through all the questions (by pressing the Skip button) and get to slide F1, the next button takes me through to the final slide on the first attempt.  Then I clicked the "Back" button on the final slide to come back to slide F1, and now when I click on the next button on slide A1.... the next button is not working. I can't get back to the final slide!
This doesn't happen if the user actually tries the questions.  Even if they get all the questions wrong (or correct) this issue doesn't happen. It only happens if the user skips all the questions.
It does sound like something I've got wrong on quiz preferences, but I can't figure out what because I've got the "Optional - the user can skip this quiz" option selected.  I even created a whole new sample project from scratch (with standard buttons, question slides, etc) yet this issue is still happening.  I also tried the preview mode, publishing with LMS reporting (SCORM 2004 and SCORM 1.2), publishing without reporting, etc, but the issue is stilll there.
Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong here - will be much appreciated. Also let me know if it'll help having a look at the sample project with this issue.  I'll arrange some way to send the project to you.
Many thanks

Hi RodWard,
Thanks for your reply
The main reason why I didn't go for the survey type questions, because I wanted to use the instant feedback captions available on graded questions (if correct or if wrong) to give more information to the users when they try a question.  On Survey type questions you don't get that option by default.  Is there a way that you know of that I can get these kind of feedback captions on survey type questions?
That 'quiz scope' you mentioned on your reply - I think that is the cause of this issue.  Shame that it is still looking for completion of the quiz, while the option "Optional - the user can skip this quiz" is selected.
It looks like the best way to workaround this is to create my own question slides with click boxes, buttons and advanced actions (rather than using the default question slides).
Thanks again for your reply RodWard - much appreciated.

  • Replay module from the first slide when user failed the quiz.

Hi, I m using SCORM 1.2 settings for my project and i uploaded it on moodle , i want to replay the module from first slide when user failed the quiz. which settings i use? please help me with the same.

When reporting to LMS it is the LMS that takes care of bookmarking, wondering if this is possible within Captivate itself? I don't know Moodle, but did you check the settings there?

  • Showing bespoke feedback when user reviews the quiz

I've created a quiz with question pools and random question slides and also enabled the user to review the quiz when they've finished.  When they review, I want information to be shown about each question - not necessarily if they got it right or wrong - just some general notes about that particular question.  I'm sure I saw a video where Dr Pooja showed pictures on certain questions when the user reviewed the quiz.  Would I need to do this using advanced actions?  I'm using V6.0.1  Thanks

Are you sure Pooja was not using Drag&Drop or normal questions, not random questions? It is pretty easy for both of them. But once you are talking about question pools and random question slides: how will you define what the picture needs to be, since you don't know which slide will be selected (you can use advanced actions on the random slide).

  • The answers questions not selectable in quiz slide for some users

We have a SCORM Captivate training content published on our LMS (SAP Learning Solutions). Some users can't respond to any questions in the content. For these users, the answers are locked and are not selectable. Also, the Validate and Erase buttons didn't appear.
The problem concerns about 10% of our users.
This training contains both content slides and quiz slides.
The content is published in SCORM 1.2 (SWF + HTML) with Adobe Captivate 5.5. We had the same problem for some users with the previous version of this training content published with Captivate 4.
All users have the same settings:
    Flash Player 10.3.183.11
    Internet Explorer 6
    Microsoft Windows XP

The most likely reason for this behaviour is that your 10% of users have entered the quiz and then thought they might jump back to the information slides to check the answer.  On doing so they have exited the quiz scope which immediately locks the quiz.
Have you actually watched these problem users complete the quiz?  If you are able to do so, make sure that once they start the first question, they answer all quiz questions in turn without jumping to any other slides or leaving the quiz.  If my hunch is right, the person will be able to successfully complete the quiz.
If the desire is to allow users to jump back to the content section to check information, place a scored button on the first or second slide of your project.  This extends the quiz scope and will mean that the user is still within the "quiz" no matter what slide they want to look at.

  • Submit button disappears when returning to the quiz slide

    Hi everyone,
We just upgraded from Captivate 4.0 to 5.5. I'm learning 5.5 differences from 4.0 and have one that I can't figure out.
On the quiz slides, if the learner moves back and forward within the quiz slides, the quiz buttons are fine. However, if they click Back on the 1st quiz slide, then go forward to the quiz slide the submit button flashes briefly then disappears for that slide and all the other quiz slides. I can't find a setting to fix this.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like a quiz scope issue.  If you click back on the first quiz slide that would take you to the slide BEFORE the first quiz slide which is technically outside the quiz scope.  This usually results in Captivate locking the quiz.
I haven't personally seen this button disappearing act but you can test whether quiz scope is the likely culprit by adding a scored click box to the first slide of the project, which will then extend the quiz scope out to that slide.  If this prevents your quiz slide buttons from disappearing, we know where the issue comes from.  That may mean you have still found a bug that needs to be fixed though.

  • Skip A Quiz Based on Previous Activity

I've got a project where the manager wants learners to answer a couple of questions after every few slides.  Assuming they get those answers correct, he wants them to be able to skip the quiz at the end.  If they don't answer the questions correctly, then they have to take the quiz.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    John

    Thanks for the quick response.
I am familiar with advanced actions and variables.  There is an LMS involved, but every user has to get 100% to pass so as long as the course passes a completion to the LMS that'll be fine.

  • Retake a module with only the quiz.

I am currently working on a module that has the quiz in two parts, seperated by a number of slides. At the end of the module, should the user fail the quiz, I would like to give them the opportunity to retake the quiz without having to go through the whole module. Getting back to the first section of the quiz is easy, however, skipping the slides between the first section of the quiz and going directly to the second section of the quiz is the challenge. I've tried a number of advanced actions (too many to write down), is what I want to do even possible?

    Hello,
Just an idea, did not try it out because I have to teach in a few minutes. I would insert a very short blank slide after the first Quiz part (will not be visible to the user). Initiate a variable with value=0 at the start of the CP-file (on entering first slide p.e.). When entering the blank slide, increment this variable with 1. So after the first attempt for the quiz this variable will have the value=1. On exiting the blank slide trigger an advanced action, a conditional statement where you check if the variable>=1. If Yes jump to the second part of the Quiz (jump to slide), if No set at Continue.
Thinking that this will work, even when you allow a third attempt...If the script causes you problems, could post more extensively this afternoon (8:45 AM over here).

  • Review Quiz Goes to the Beginnig of the Course vs. the Quiz

I have a course that contains several content slides and 10 question slides.  When the user completes the quiz and clicks the Review Quiz button, Captivate takes them back to the very first slide in the course vs. to the first question slide. How can I get Captivate to go to the first question slide?  I am using Captivate 7.

Thank you!  That was exactly what was wrong.  I had a button on the first slide and Report Answers was selected in Properties.  I copied this button to other slides so the Review Quiz functionality started at the begining and stopped on all slides where Report Answers appeared.  I used the Advanced Interaction window to identify all the Yes responses for Report Answers and made sure I deselected the check box on all content slides.  Once saved, the course worked perfectly!  The Review Quiz went to the first question slide.  Thanks again.

  • Retake the quiz questions that got wrong answers

    Hi,
I psuedo-asked this before, but I'll ask it outright this
    time.
In using Captivate 3, is there any way to make the user take
the quiz a second time, but skip over the questions that they have
gotten correct, requiring them to redo only the questions they have
gotten wrong? Has anybody found a clever way to get around this?
Right now I can only redirect them to the beginning (with the
continue button) and have them retake the whole quiz.
Please let me know if there's a way around this, Thanks!

I guess you need to take a moment to look at commercial LMS

are heavily standards based - with the AICC standards being
    around 20 years

  • Total time taken for the quiz needs to be displayed in the report

    Hi,
I would want tthe total time taken for the quiz to be displayed in the report...Let me know if its possible

    Hi,
    Please try this.
Define three user variables - StartTime, EndTime and Duration.
At the start of the quiz ('On Slide Enter' of the first Question Slide). have an advanced action with the following actions.
    Assign: StartTime with cpInfoElapsedTimeMS
    Continue
At the end of the quiz ('On Success' or 'On Failure' of the last Question Slide or 'On Slide Enter' of Result Slide), have this advanced action.
    Assign: EndTime with cpInfoElapsedTimeMS
Expression: Duration = EndTime - StartTime
    Expression: Duration = Duration / 1000
    Continue
The variable 'Duration' will have the time taken by the user for the Quiz in seconds.
Let me know if you have any queries.
    Thanks,

  • My course is stuck in the quiz section...

I'm using captivate 8 and all the settings are set so the user can retake the quiz upon failure and review.
When I play the course, the first part allows full navigation, but when I get to the quiz it gets stuck.  I cannot move forward or back and I cannot answer the questions (grayed out).  I have removed and re-uploaded, but still does not work. Please help

Thank you for your help.  The quiz settings are the same ones I always use (normally without issue).  The required option is to answer all, I do not have branch aware checked--what does that do?  I didn't change any of the master slides, they are all simple multiple choice questions.
I set the playbar to disappear during the quiz, which might be a quick fix, as the issue started when the user used the back and forward buttons.-- still not sure why that matters (since the settings allow for retakes.
If you have any further info or clarification I'll appreciate it

  • Captivate 5.5 - Getting an accurate quiz result when user skips a question and returns to complete it?

    I have a Captivate 5.5 project with the following settings;
Questions are optional and interspersed in the content
    Backward movement is allowed
Quiz results show a percentage correct and are for the learners information only
    Issue:
When the user skips a question, views their results at the end of the project and then goes back to complete the skipped question, the quiz results do not add the skipped question to the previous total. Captivate appears to think that only the skipped question was completed. Any idea on how to fix this would be great. Thanks

I have been answering a similar question several times yesterday, here are two examples:
    Continue button - result page.
Help with conditional action in C8
Varun's proposal is the same as I suggested, but first I'd want to know if you also allow Review? The stack order of the embedded buttons on the Score slide is:
    bottom 'Continue'
    above this one 'Review'
    above 'Review' there is Retake
Often users hare confused by Review and Retake, and as you probably know, once the Review button has been clicked, the Retake option is over, user cannot take another attempt. This means that in most courses I will drag the Review button under the Retake button. Only when Quiz attempts are exhausted, the Review button will become available. But you cannot put the Continue button in the same location because it will never become visible. Have a workaround for that, you'll find it in the other threads. I'm missing one that I cannot find.

  • How do i prevent a slide that is after the quiz results page from showing?

HI guys, I am trying to achieve the following in Captivate 6:
    1) Users answer questions. They have 2 attempts to pass with 70% or above.
    2) At the quiz results page, if the score is less than 70%, users get a button to retake the quiz. After the second attempt, If the percent is 70% or above, they can click a button to view a certificate or click a button to see a transcript. If the percent is less than 70%, they click a button to get a transcript but NOT a certificate.
How can i accomplish this since i cannot add buttons to the quiz results page.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I am trying to implement a simple hide/show routine and it does not work. This is what I want.
I have two buttons (one to save a certifcate and one to save a course transcript).  I want to display those on the quiz results screen. The user has two chances to make a 70% or more on the quiz.
If the user obtains less than 70% score on the first try, on the quiz results slide I want to hide the button to save the certificate but keep the one for the transcript. If the user passes with 70 or more, then both icons remain on screen.
IF the user obtains less than 70% after the second try, the quiz results should only show the transcript button. If they pass with 70% or more, then both icons remain on screen.
I tried advance interactions to hide or show the icons in the "on slide enter" on the quiz results screen but that did not work.
This is an example of what i tried. if cpQuizInfoQuizPassPercent is less than 70% hide btncert. I also tried hiding the button and then assigning actions to show the button on passing the 70% but that did not work either.
    Suggestions?

  • How can we make the Retake Quiz button only appear when user reenters the course?

In a Captivate 8 Quiz, we need to force the user to close the course (so attempts are captured by the LMS) from the Quiz Results page. The Retake Quiz button cannot show at this time. However, when the learner reenters the course from the LMS, the bookmarking brings the user to the Results page again. We need a Retake Quiz button to only show when the user reenters the course, not on Quiz completion. Disabling the bookmarking disables the reporting of attempts. Does anyone know a way to make that happen or a workaround?

After taking a quiz, is there a way to show the questions and answers for the user to review from passing the quiz.
