CPD file smaller after renaming project

Hello,
I have renamed my RoboHelp project and have noticed after the project has been renamed, the cpd file in the renamed project is much smaller than the CPD file from the original project. Is this something to be concerned about? Why is the file so much smaller?
Thankyou

  • Originals disappeared after renaming project

    Hello!
    After the import from a SD-card into a new project in Aperture I have
    a) firstly deleted the photos (****!), then ...
    b) created some new projects and finally ...
    c) moved the initial photos from the new project into the other projects.
    The result of all this is that all photos are still in Aperture (even in full-screen-modus) but the originals are not here anymore! Every time I try to edit/delete/export/send the photos Aperture refuses to do it and shows me in the error-message that the originals couldn't be found. Not even Spotlight/TimeMachine find them!
    I could also repeat the whole process: I made new photos, imported them into a new project ... they were still there, even after restarting Aperture ... as soon as I rename the project Aperture said that the originals disappeared!
    Do you have an explination for that?
    And perhaps even a method to restore all the lost photos?
    Desperately,
    Vlad
    P.S. iMac 3.06 GHz, MacOS X 10.5.5, 4 GB Ram, Aperture 2.1.2.

    Honestly I cannot even remotely begin to figure out exactly what you did or did not do. My best guess here is that you imported the photos as referenced masters (leave images where they are option) and got rid of the masters at some point. If this is the case you are most likely SOL as the only recourse is to use a recovery program that takes forever to run and is the most successful the less volatile the file system/disk that it is recovering.
    If you have a vault or other backup obviously they are still there. If not now is the time to fix your work-flow in a couple of ways.
    RB
    Ps. If this is not the case it is something inane but I will trust you when you say that they are gone. 99.9999% probability that Aperture didn't get rid of them if they are gone - you did. Gotta love all the folks espousing "only use referenced files no matter what".

  • Can't open Excel File manually after MS Project has opened it via VBA

    I was testing a section of code I got from a forum that opens a Excel Workbook via MS Project VBA so that I could use it to update a Excel Workbook that I have. The macro opens the Workbook as intended but the main problem I'm encountering is that
    after I've run the macro, saved and closed the Workbook again, I'm unable to open it manually either from Recents or directly from folder location. I'm using Project 2010 (non Server) and Excel 2010 - Windows 7.
    I'm also having trouble getting it to select "Sheet2" of the Workbook when it opens so I've Commented it out, but it would be a bonus if someone could shed some light on that one as well.
    Edit: I worked out how to select the Sheet...I've updated the code Below.
    Sub OpenTest()
    Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
    Dim xlWkb As Excel.Workbook
    Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
    Set xlWkb = xlApp.Workbooks.Open_ ("C:\Users\myName\Desktop\Export Test1.xlsx")
    xlApp.Visible = True
    xlApp.Sheets("Sheet2").Select
    Set xlWkb = Nothing
    End Sub
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Matt,
    Actually your macro code works fine and I can re-open the file without problem.
    I don't recall asking in your other post but do you have SP2 installed for Project 2010? And, do you have SP2 installed for Office 2010, which will cover Excel? They are separate updates. It would also be a good idea to install the June 2013 cumulative update
    for Project 2010 as it was released after SP2 and it does fix some VBA issues as I recall.
    As I indicated, your code works fine on my PC which is also Project 2010, Office 2010 and Windows 7. Try this. After you run the macro and then save and close the workbook, does Excel also get closed automatically? If it does, (and it should), after you
    close the workbook, take a look at the applications manager to see which Windows applications are currently running. Does Excel still show up?

  • Recover original file name after rename

    I apologize if I'm not asking this question in the right forum...
    I received some .MOV files from a video shoot that have been renamed. I took notes on the camera-given file names, and I'm trying to recover that information. Is there any way to reveal previous namings of a file?
    Thanks.

    Phil Harvey's exiftool has a tag- OriginalFileName. Whether the attribute is set or not is something that you'll have to test.

  • RH9 error: .cpd file corrupt

    I've just received this error for the second time. The first time I "tried deleting the .cpd file and reopening the project. All the topics were missing -- each topic name was in the project with a red delete/broken X across it.
    After vainly trying several approaches to getting my topics back, I decided to start over. The original project was converted from RH7. I decided to create a new RH9 project and import topics. That seemed to be working well, except two topics would not import. Each caused RH9 to lock up with a "busy" hourglass and when I closed RH9, I got the Windows XP SP3  "not responding. End now?" error.
    So I created new topics in Dreamweaver and pasted the text into them and imported the new topics. I use Dreamweaver as an editor; I am not fond of the RH editor -- a totally different conversation. (Likewise, the RH9 conversion of RH7 projects is a totally different conversation.)
    With all topics now in the project, I started to rebuild the TOC and completed most of the TOC when RH9 locked up again. When I tried to reopen the project, I got the error shown below (again). Is there a way to remove the corruption from my .cpd file?  Should I totally give up and go back to RH7?
    This project has between 300-400 topics and about 1250 files in the compiled version. We're using both conditional build tags (4 builds) and user defined variables (also 4). I have discovered that the RH9 codes for both build tags and user variables are different from RH7 (and they didn't convert) and have begun the process of recoding the first section of the project. Should I not attempt to import a topic into RH9 until after all the codes in the topic are updated to the RH9 version?
    Does this issue have anything to do with the new RH9 doctype code that automagically applies itself to any topic that is opened in the RH editor?  From what I've read, I do not want to use XHTML and want to stay with the HTML doctype I've been using with this project. We compile WebHelp and deliver the Help with web-based applications. A sample of the RH9 doctype follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    I hesitate to do anything more without guidance. Rebuilding this project again is a discouraging thought.
    Thank you for your response and advice!

    The missing sample in the previous was supposed to show the HTML code I saw in both RH7 and RH9 for build tags.
         RH7 HTML looks like:  <p style="x-condition: NATL;"><span>...text goes here...</span></p>
         RH9 HTML looks like: <? rh-cbt_start condition="NATL" ?><p>...text goes here... </p><?rh-cbt_end ?>
    The HTML for user variables is similar in both RH7 and RH9. Neither the build tag or user variable code converted during the RH7 to RH9 upgrade -- for me.
    Is the HTML code for RH9 build tags (shown above) actually XHTML?  It occured to me that perhaps adding an XHTML code into a topic that has a doctype for HTML may be an issue. After correcting the build tag code in Dreamweaver and saving, I closed DW, opened RH9 and did File/Save All. I don't think the doctype changes to XHTML in RH9 unless I import the topic again. Just wondering if that could be part of the problem. Last night I sent a small test project for deploying in the web site test environment -- to see if our web app will handle XHTML documents. Testing is necessary since the "new" RH7 charset utf-8 was not compatible with our web app either. (That was a big struggle to get resolved as well.)
    I will contact IT today about a second login profile for my computer. My coworker is working on a different project in RH9, but it does not include build tags or user variables and she has not experienced crashing and corrupted .cpd file.
    thanks for your help!

  • RH8 crashing after opening project

    Boy, am I ever having problems with RH8!!
    I just posted a problem with one project today and now I'm
    having a big problem with another project.
    In this new problem project, I opened it and started getting
    long error message about topic files having illegal characters in
    them. There were quite a few of the same type, so I checked the box
    to silence the warnings and figured I'd check things out when the
    project opened.
    Well, it opened alright and then it just crashed. It crashed
    before I could even look at anything!
    Can I delete any files and try reopening the project?
    Something must have gotten polluted.
    Wow, I never had any problems with X5, which I upgraded from.
    I love RH8, if I can just move through these problems....what a
    headache!
    Thanks! Hope to hear from someone soooooonnnnn!!!
    -Deb

    Hello.
    I'm making some progress fixing my problem with some help
    from tech support and just wanted to check in.
    First of all, I still had RH X5 files on my computer and had
    to do a lot of clean up in the registry.
    I also uninstalled RH8 and reinstalled it.
    After that, I deleted the .xpj & .cpd files and opened
    the project from the .hhp file.
    Voila, now I'm in the project again.
    The same "illegal character" messages that I received before
    start showing up and I'm making note of the file names.
    So, now I can see in the topic list that there is no style
    sheet assigned to the problem topics. As it turns out, many of my
    file names are too long. So I shortened them and reapplied
    default.css.
    Although I still have concerns. First of all, I have numerous
    files that have names that are longer than 25 characters and they
    are not being complained about (yet). A few of the files being
    complained about did NOT have names over 25 chars. A couple had
    borders around special verbiage, which I deleted and was then able
    to re-apply the style sheet again. One file I couldn't have
    anything wrong with it, so I just deleted it and created it again.
    So it seems to be a bit of a mixed bag. So I'm working through
    this.
    Do you think I should start going through the project and
    rename all the long file names? Wow, what a job, there's tons!! I
    wonder why RH allows long names to be created in the first place if
    it's a problem? I wasn't even aware that it was a problem until
    today.....
    Still some problems are lingering....
    My old primary layout appears to be missing. When I compiled
    the chosed layout was WebHelp, which I don't use. I use HTML Help
    and when I open HTML Help from Single Source Layouts, it is not the
    one that I was using before the problem cropped up. All the rest of
    my special printed documentation layouts are also missing.
    Is there a way that I can find them in an older copy of the
    project and copy them over? I don't have a clue.
    Also, I was using conditional text, but when I open the pod,
    it looks like the conditional text names that I created are gone.
    Although I see the colored hash marks in the topics. Can I copy
    them over from an older copy of the same project? Again, not sure
    how I would do that.
    I'd appreciate any tips anybody could give me. Thanks!

  • Corrupted CPD file in RH7 (again)

    I've had this ongoing problem that rears its ugly head every
    two months. My CPD file continues to corrupt when it reaches 1500
    KB. This project was originally built in X5 and then we upgraded to
    RH7. I initially would compress this file using MS Access. Then
    when it grew to 1500 KB it would corrupt again. So two months ago I
    deleted the CPD file and reopened the project using the XPJ file.
    All the links were broken. I painstakingly fixed all the links over
    a two-day period- thinking this would fix it once and for all. Now
    it's corrupted again. What can I do to fix this permanently? Why is
    it continuing to corrupt? Is it necessary to compress this file
    periodically?
    I also tried renaming the the CPD and XPJ files and then
    opening the project using the HHP file. This also leaves the
    project with many broken links- but maybe these links are broken
    because RH is not seeing the folders for these topics in RH but
    they exist in Windows Explorer (I have Peter's instructions on
    remedying this). Again, my main objective is to find a permanent
    solution to this problem- if one exists. Thanks-
    Cheers
    Rich

    GEWB,
    Well, the folder I deleted was a user-created one that my
    boss had made. But here is an example: the project had a folder
    called "Authorizations" in Project Manager. But when I opened the
    project folder in Explorer, there was the Authorizations folder,
    but then another duplicate folder with that name was inside a
    folder called "Online Help". This Online Help folder had just odds
    and ends thrown in it. What it would do though is cause RH to break
    the links to the legitimate topics in the Authorizations folder and
    this folder would not appear when I rebuilt the project. Because
    this folder existed on two levels, it seemed to confuse RH so it
    would leave it out all together. When I deleted this unnecessary
    folder, the project rebuilt without any problems. So I think it's
    important if you inherit a project to make sure there aren't any
    residual folders that might conflict with existing ones. Hope this
    helps-
    All the best,
    Rich

  • Renaming Projects in RH6

    I have a pretty large project created in RH6. I'd tell you
    how many topics are in it, but RH6 crashed while running the topic
    report.
    Anyway, I'm a template nut: I like having a bare-bones
    project with topics linked, index created, etc., then make a copy
    of the entire project, and apply client-specific info to the copy.
    This method involves renaming the project copy, but I've not had a
    great deal of success here. When it's finished (or when I think
    it's finished), there are so many broken links afterward, that I'm
    forced to delete the copy, make another one and try again.
    No, there are no broken links in the original project.
    I am not using RoboSource Control.
    I have not made any attempts to rename anything with Windows
    Explorer or another 3rd party tool.
    Is this just symptomatic of "version point zero" gremlins? Is
    there an ETA on a patch?

    Hey Peter. yes, I'm glad it works too. I've got a lot to
    report:
    1) I have no HHP file in the renamed project at all. The HHP
    file exists in the original, however. And when I copied the
    original project to the new folder in Windows Explorer, you can bet
    the HHP file was there too. Only after the renaming did the HHP
    file disappear.
    2) There IS an fpj file in every folder. Do you mean why
    would a list be needed? A list would be needed so that during
    renamings, RH6 can check the list to ensure all of them are
    accounted for. In this case, clearly, somehting is happening to one
    of them. So perhaps a list isn't the worst idea?
    3) Yes, I've made another copy, I've renamed the copy and the
    very same subfolder's fpj file is getting wiped out. There's
    nothing missing with the original project, I assure you. So if
    those subfolders are present in the original project, then they're
    present in the copy. And by the way...it's not that there's no fpj
    file in hw. The file exists. It just contains this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
    <rhpml majorversion="1" minorversion="0">
    <folders>
    <folder>
    <name>images</name>
    </folder>
    </folders>
    <topics/>
    </rhpml>
    In the above, I notice there's no <topics> tag to
    accompany <topics/> (which is the wrong syntax anyway). It's
    completely correct in the original fpj, filled with a list of
    topics and folders.
    What's truly baffling is this: if the fpj file is being wiped
    out, then how can it be that all the links between the pages in hw
    and all the subfolders are intact? After all, only the TOC and
    Index links are broken.

  • Error opening Project 2007 file after using project 2010

    This is the second time I'm experiencing this problem.
    Created a file (say Rev 1) in Project 2007 at work and took it home and updated it using Project 2010. When I finished updating using Project 2010, I saved the file in Project 2007 format. Came to work the next day, opened the file using
    Project 2007 and did a "Save As" so that I have another revision of the file (Rev 2).
    After updating Rev 2 in Project 2007 I closed it but when I came to work the next day I couldn't open Rev 2 file again either in Project 2007 or 2010. This has happened to me with 2 different files.
    The error message I get is
    An unexpected error occured during command execution.

  • After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type ...

    After renaming a file extention from .jpeg to .jpg I can no longer type in any of the finder related editable fields/boxes. I can still type in my open applications fields.
    This problem also happens when I happen to find a file that has been named, for instance, 2008jpg. When I add the period to have the file read correctly as 2008.jpg, a warning box appears asking - {*Are you sure you want to change the extention from ".jpeg" to ".jpg"?* If you make this change, your document may open in a different application.} Two radio buttons are available within this warning box that read - 1 - {Use .jpg}(it is not color coded, which means it must be selected manually. - 2 - {Keep .jpeg}(it is colored w/my Blue highlight color, which means it will be selected if the Enter Key is used.
    The warning box does Not appear if I remove the period from a file and not again when i re-add the period to that same file.
    After trying to make these types of edits to the name of any file, with any of the various extentions available for files in our digital world, I usually get an anomaly where myability to type in the Finder ceases to be a possibility.
    I have found that I can Force Quit the Finder for a quick fix, but, I'm not sure that this Typing problem should have to be dealt with at all by this quick fix. Is this an issue with the Indexing in Spotlight, which seems to be giving many users problems?

    I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
    As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
    I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
    Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?
    TIA

  • The project file ' ' has been renamed or is no longer in the solution.

    Hello Folks:
       Developing on Win 8.1 Pro, Visual Studio 2010 Pro, C++.
       I'm revisiting a project I haven't touched in over 2 years.
       Attempts to build result in a pop up displaying this error:
          The project file ' ' has been renamed or is no longer in the solution.
       And the build terminates.
       Things might have changed in the underlying static libraries used by other projects.
          I've looked through the Solution Explorer and the project's properties "Framework and References" window but I don't see anything with such an odd name.
       How do I resolve this problem?
          Thanks
          Larry

    Some other things to try:
    1. Reload each project in the solution (Right-click/Unload Project; Right-click/Reload project).  See if any of them has an issue reloading.
    2. If you have multiple projects in the solution: Make a copy of the solution and load the copy.  Go in Build Dependencies and uncheck all.  Now build each project individually and see which one has the problem.  (Some of them might not link
    due to missing libraries, but that's OK.  You just want to see that the build starts).  Double-check which configuration Visual Studio picks when it builds each project; if they are not all the same, the problem is with the project configurations.
    3. Load the solution file with the XML editor.  (Make sure no other Visual Studio instance has the solution open when you do this).  Check each Project line for oddities, specifically, empty or mangled names, or missing project files.  Also
    check the Configurations.  It could be that the problem project doesn't have an equivalent configuration to the one you are building.  Sometimes the configuration definitions in the solution file get messed up.

    Hi Rshmi,
    use this UDF i hope it will work fine,
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container
         .getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File", "FileName");
    String a=conf.get(key);
    int inc = 1;
    Integer seqNo = (Integer) container.getParameter("seqNo");
    if(seqNo == null || seqNo ==999){
                                seqNo = new Integer(inc);
    else{
                               int num = seqNo.intValue() + inc;
                               seqNo = new Integer(num);
    container.setParameter("seqNo", seqNo);
    return var1+seqNo.toString();

  • How to rename project (.prj) and workspace (.cws) files?

    CVI lets me rename a project in the programming environment (Edit -> Project) but the name of the project file on disk (.prj) doesn't change. Is there a way to change the project file name?
    I want to do the same thing for the workspace file (.cws). How?
    thanks!

    Sometimes I want to open a random C file so I can copy and paste code into my program. But the CVI environment wants to make that random C file part of the project, I believe. If I recall correctly, it even changes my default folder to the location of the random C file. Very frustrating!
    The highlighted sentence is not true: you can open any number of source files in the editor without having them added to the project; the same happens for include files and for any text file you want. The CVI environment will remember you have those files open and will try to open them again the next time you run it, but they won't be included in the compilation and won't be part of your application / project.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
