CPU pegged at 100% permemently.

This can't be good for the device surely. I guess it's Twonkymedia that's stuck trying to index or thumbnail something.   How cna I fix this?  Is this device now End OF Life (as the version of Twonkymedia it comes with is now very old, and missing lots of very important fixes). I expected WAY more in terms of support from WD in keeping my device upto date,

As you can see from the attached screenshots, the device has been up and running for 8 days, and the CPU is pegged at 100% CPU load. Going into the device via ssh and issuing the "top" command, it clearly shows both cores are pegged at 50% each trying to create thumbnails for twonkymedia using avconv.
8 days is a reasonable amount of time to wait before Twonkymedia should have created all it's thumbnails (this is not a new file either).
I have rebuild the database previously (several times), and it's always having the same problem. This file plays without problem, so it's not a corrupt file. I therefore believe it's either a Twonkymedia or a avconv bug.

  • CPU pegs at 100% with 3D apps

    I have a GeForce 8800 GTS, and running the proprietary drivers. When I run Urban Terror (FPS game), I get a lot of lag. I did some tests with glxgears, and saw that my both CPU cores are pegging at 100%, and the 3D app I use is the one that is pegging according to top. I am not using an xorg.conf, just letting X set itself. Here is my xorg.log: http://pastie.org/2957867
    Any suggestions on what to look for or try?

    Good to hear that something changed although I am unsure what was caused the CPU load.
    If VSync isn't enabled, then any OpenGL apps (unless explicitly configured to do otherwise) will try to push out as many frames as they can at a time.  This causes both high GPU load (because it has to render all the extra frames that you'll never see, since the display can only refresh so fast), and high CPU load (since it has to push out all those extra GL commands to the GPU).  Forcing VSync system-wide will force all OpenGL apps to only update their display when the monitor has finished refreshing and is about to start on a new image (the VBlank interval), effectively capping the frame rate to the refresh rate of your monitor, though unless you're using triple buffering, this can also have some nasty side-effects as well; see here and here for more details if you're interested.

  • T410s with extremely poor performance and CPU always near 100% usage

    Hi,
    I've had my T410s for almost a year now and lately its been starting to get extremely slow, which is odd since it used to be so fast.
    Just by opening one program, Outlook, or IE or Chrome, just one window, it will start to get extremely slow and on task manger I can clearly see the CPU usage at 100% or very near.
    Also another thing I noticed was the performance index on the processor dropped from 6.8 to 3.6!!!
    I did a clean Windows 7 Pro 64Bit install, I have all Windows and Lenovo updates installed and the problem persits
    What is happening and what should I do??
    Thank you
    Nuno

    thank you again for your answer,
    I've done that but hard drive health is also ok as you can see from the screenshot.
    IAt the time of the screenshot I had just fineshed to boot up the laptop and it wasnt hot at all.
    I am getting desperate here, I am unable to work with my T410s

  • I have iTunes 10.4 and every time I open it my CPU usage hits 100%.  How do I stop this?

    I have iTunes 10.4 and every time I open it my CPU usage hits 100%.  This makes my computer really slow and almost unusable.  How do I stop this?  Another effect is that I cannot log onto the iTunes Store.  I click on it and it says it is loading the iTunes store but the window remains blank.

    So do I!

  • S5200UK more than meets Min Requirements for Win7 but slow and CPU peeking at 100% during IE or NIS

    Hi everyone! Previously my S5200UK was upgraded from 1GB RAM to 2GB with a newer BIOS of V3.21
    (See  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware/Can-I-increase-RAM-size-if-I-upgrade-the-BIOS/m-p/1302... )
    Thanks to Paul Tikkanen's help then I got the machine working fabulously but thanks to Microsoft's decommisioning of XP I decided to upgade to Windows 7 professional. The minimum requirements are 1GHz CPU and 1GB RAM. My AMD CPU is 2.08GHz but its performance is 2.6GHz equivalent. The RAM is 2GB and I have upgraded the HDD to a new Seagate SSHD SATA 1TB hybrid (with 8GB SSD incorporated). I used the exact drive on another machine a dx2000mt and WOW what a difference to boot speed (30sec) 1min with programs installed and data restored. (and that is usable desktop). I also fitted the  ATI Radeon 9600 LE 128 MB AGP graphics card as recommended by Paul and a new 500W supply. I did not expect any problems as the 7 upgrade (clean install) on the dx2000mt went like a dream. Anyhow, this is the problem. After installing windows, all the updates and Norton Internet Security (NIS) the machine uses 100% processor and 25% RAM as I attempt to open NIS or use Internet Explorer. I can hear the CPU fan speed up every time it executes any small task and CPU shoots to 100%. With opening NIS there are two nis.exe processes using 50% CPU each! Any small demand of a program results in ultra slow operation. I put Win 7 on my old laptop with 1.5GHz CPU and 2GB RAM and that is great! I cannot believe that this S5200UK machine is limited by the CPU or RAM  as it more that meets the requirements. I have obviously installed drivers (most came with Windows 7 and the others from a driver update program). There are no warnings or conflicts in the Device Manager and I have tried reinstalling everything again twice but it is always the same. I even tried changing the HDD to an IDE 80GB 7200rpm one but it was even slower! I also tried removing the graphics card but no change.Oddly I ran a performance test progam and, other than the memory, it came out better that the dx2000mt!!!! Has anyone got any suggestions as to what is causing this?
    PS: The o/s is OEM for refurbished pcs on genuine hologram disk (no service pack but this was done via Windows Update) I will be very grateful if anyone out there can save my bacon. Thanks.

    Hi:
    The only recommendation I can offer based on what you have posted, would be to ditch the Norton Internet Security software and just run it with Microsoft Security Essentials.
    That free antivirus/antimalware software uses very few system resources.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5201
    You would also need to use the Norton uninstall tool to make sure it cleans out all traces of the program.

  • Install itunes - cpu goes to 100 percent and stalls.  Uninstalled, tried fixes on internet, reinstalled - same story

    Have installed, uninstalled itunes on xp machine and tried all the fixes given in the discussion groups, plus cnet and other internet fixes.....nothing works.  After installation of itunes cpu usage goes to 100 percent and itunes stops.  Cpu stays at 100 percent until I uninstall itunes.  By the number of posts on the internet, I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed this issue with a fix.

    I had the same problem but this worked for me.
    Get to a dos command prompt and type:  netsh winsock reset
    You will need to reboot your computer but it fixed tocpu 100% issue.
    Good luck

  • When starting Firefox 3.6.11 the CPU goes to 100%.

    After upgrading from 3.6.10 to 3.6.11 I'm unable to start Firefox in a reasonable period of time (3 minutes). The CPU goes to 100% for one of my 4 cores, when left to its own, the Firefox window appears after 18 minutes 43 seconds. My CPU is a Q6700 (Quad 2.66Ghz).

    How can I go back to 3.6.10??

  • Cpu goes to 100%

    I can open itunes. I can not click on anything on the page without my cpu going to 100% and freezing my computer. If I type in an artist in the search I can sometimes look and purchase music. If I go to another artist my cpu goes to 100% and freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is to go to Windows Task Manager and end task on itunes.

  • FireFox CPU goes to 100% by backgroundshift

    Sorry for my bad english..
    Running a simple scrollroutine my cpu use is low :

    Hello,
    if you have your note for a year or more and did not take it for an internal heatsink clean and essentials parts, yet.
    One possible problem here is: Heatsink blocked with dust (CPU goes to 100% state svchost takes all resources)
    90% of the high temperatures problems, unexpected shutdowns, 100%CPU all the time without running background processes, very hot keyboard area, freezing programs, are caused by the heatsink blocked with dust.
    The normal temperature for the processor is between 55C and 79C. For the motherboard is around 55C~60C. When the heatsink is blocked those temperatures can reach 99C (processor) and around 80C (motherboard). Measure in Celsius degrees.
    You can check it out how "hot" your Qosmio is.
    Download the Everest ultimate 2006 edition V 3.50.761, look for it with Google search.
    Run it and see the temperatures for CPU, Processor and motherboard on your Qosmio:
    See:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioeverest.jpg
    Run the System stability test (find it under tools menu) for 10 minutes aprox.
    Watch the temperatures at taskar. If it reachs more than 92C for the processor on stress mode, its time to clean the heatsink and all essential parts of your Qosmio. Attempt to the processor fan RPM, too, if they run fast and noisy, you really must perform a clean.
    But it depends on the ambient environment, for a 30C summer day the processor temperature almost get the 90C. this is normal in stress mode. And the fans run without noise. Slow RPM mode.
    All measured in Celsius degrees, for Farenheith please convert it.

  • PCSuite makes computer CPU max at 100%

    I just installed the PC Suite software (Nokia_pc_suite_7_26_0) onto my Dell Latitude D510 using XP Pro. I'm connecting though Bluetooth. I was able to detect phone (6650) and make connection. After that, my PC hangs...CPU is at 100%. I have narrowed to the PCSuite software running. If I kill the that process the CPU is back to normal.
    Help!

    ness...for completeness this is PC Suite updated a few days ago, version 7.1.28 (.exe properties page)
    running on Windows XP over standard Dell Toshiba bluetooth on a Latitude D810 (and I know that is a flakey piece of hardware/software in itself - bluetooth gives no end of problems).
    This problem is definitely introduced by the latest version/update.
    Apps run file when started manually (e.g. PCSync2, ImageStore, CommunicationCentre). Best Nokia devs go away and look at what was added and do some more testing over bluetooth...

  • Importing Audio CD to library, downloads slow and CPU goes to 100%,

    Importing Audio books CDs to library, downloads slow and CPU goes to 100%, last two tracks take an extreme long time to load, audio is spotty on those two tracks. Any ideas as to why or how to correct

    I think your problem might be in the settings. Your audiobooks might be trying to download like music CDs, and doing error checking and playing while it downloads.
    Here's a link to some really helpful information about how iTunes treats audiobook CDs and how to do it better. It helped me out a lot.

  • CPU Load stays 100%

    Hello,
    im running into a problem with the FMS blocking our FMS
    server with 100% CPU load.
    the scenario:
    - We use the FMS only for chatting and NOT for streaming.
    - Server is ~ AMD X2 5600 / 2GB / Gentoo
    - We have peaks with a lot of people chatting simultaniously
    in "rooms" with
    up to 50 people in the same room.
    at around 1500/2000 simultanious chat connections the server
    reaches its limits
    it goes up to 100% CPU use and now the problem starts:
    The server never again uses less then the 100% cpu unless you
    manually restart
    the application. Even if the connections drop again to lets
    say 100 connections
    the CPU hangs at 100%.
    Did anyone experience this problem aswell? Is there a
    workaround that the server
    recovers after too many connections? what could be the
    problem (besides the many connections)?
    And one more questions that i have:
    There will be certainly way more then 2000 simultanious Chats
    that we have to handle.
    Is there a way to have chats / shared objects deployed
    transparent over multiple FMS instances?
    meening does the FMS scale in a way that conected clients are
    visible over multiple
    fms instances / servers?
    Thank you - Stephan

    Since there are 3 heat sinks that I can see , I was asking if anyone knew where the temperature reading is coming from.
    1) The blue heat sink with letter "Military Class 3" next to the CPU
    2) The blue heat sink with letter "OC Genie II"  next to the CPU
    3) The blue heatsink with letter "msi" located next to pci express slot
    Because #1 and #2 are next to the CPU cooler, which should be forcing air around them,  I am suspecting maybe the reading is from #3.
    Old MSI boards had sensors for Northbridge and Southbridge, but the new ones, I am not sure where the reading is coming from.
    ====
    Update: I've confirmed the reading is most likely from the "msi" heat sink... By directing more cool  air toward that area, the  motherboard temperature has dropped to about 34 to 35C.
    ====
    Anyway the following are reading from various different software before the change in air flow toward the "msi" heat sink:
    CPUID Hardware Monitor:
    TZ00 => 28 C - never changes
    TZ01 => 30 C - never changes
    TMPIN0 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65
    TMPIN1 => Motherboard temp: slowly rises upto 40 C
    Open Hardware Monitor
    Temperature #1 => CPU temp: varies from 31 to 65 C
    Temperature #3 => MB temp: slowly rises upto 40 C
    AIDA64 Extreme
    Motherboard => slowly rises upto 40C
    CPU => varies from 31 to 65 C
