Crackling Audio in PCSXR

My machine is certainly capable so I doubt it's a processor power issue (Gen 2 Sanybridge i7) but all video, music and some sound-effects crackle (sort of a fluttering sound) in PCSXR and I cannot find any option changes that have any effect.
Has anyone got PCSXR working well and what settings/tweaks are you using? (I have general issues with ePSXe and pSX doesn't scale up so that's no use, everything looks terrible).

I've been having a similar problem and have just installed the old P.E.Op.S. Linux OSS/ALSA PSX SPU from http://www.pbernert.com/html/spu.htm
I will not be able to extensively test it until tonight but initially seems much improved - ie NHL98 load screen movie audio playing smoothly

  • Got crackling audio in MainStage 2.2.2? I did, and here's how I fixed it...

A lot of people are talking about an issue in MainStage 2.2.2. where crackling audio gradually builds in the signal and eventually becomes unbearable. I had this issue but none of the solutions I found in the support community worked for me.
The obvious fix is the increase the sample buffer size until the issue goes away (as it's often a matter of the CPU not being able to handle the load, especially on older machines). You can also turn on the Safety Buffer checkbox, which can further reduce the problem. My issue wasn't solved this way, unfortunately; no matter how high I increased the sample buffer, the problem persisted.
It seems the problem was being caused by my USB interface, which is a very good unit (the Focusrite Scarlett 18i6). My first mistake was that I used the Scarlett for input, but used built-in output. I suspect the Mac (2012 non-Retina MPB, 2.3GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, SSD) had trouble synchronizing with the device. I routed the output to the Scarlett as well and that seemed to fix the crackling. I had a problem with the device putting the dry signal Mainstage, which wasn't good. I then downloaded the software mixer (found on the Focusrite site) and, when I tried to run it, it told me the Scarlett needed a firmware update. So that was applied. I then ran the mixer and chose "DAW1" routing preset. After that... no more problems at all.
If you're having this exasperating experience with crackling and the buffer size doesn't fix it, perhaps the steps I took could help you find a solution as well.
    Good luck!

  • ATV - 'Crackling' Audio

I recently acquired an ATV with the v1 firmware. After setting it up via HDMI and syncing with my iMac iTunes library everything was dandy and enjoying my music. Yay. I decided to give the 2.0 update a go & after installing I now experience 'crackling' audio. Almost like when to turn something up too loud and it distorts and blows you speakers up. It happens regardless of source(steam/sych'ed) and media(music/podcast/youtube).
I've double checked my cabling, reset user settings & rebooted. Nothings really helping? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

I am having the same trouble via the HMDI input to my receiver. It clearly sounds like "Digital Clipping" on the peaks of the audio.
What is rather strange is that I have not encountered this on any Movie (local or rented), YouTube, .Mac galleries.
It seems to be only the Music and even occurs when I listen the song off of the ITunes store. For example "Before He Cheats" clips severely in the loud parts on my local copy or playing the very same song off of iTunes, on my Apple TV. No such problem when listening to the same tune on my Macbook or Macbook Pro.

  • Crackling audio (not sure if this is the "same" problem)

I have been experiencing crackling audio under certain circumstances with my Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic. I am no audio expert, but it seems to me that the problem occurs when multiple?"types" of audio are played at the same time. For example, in a game, when voices are played over pre-existing background music, the audio on the voices will get crackly and staticky. This is recreatable in GTA4; that game uses a third-party interface (Microsoft Li've) to track game progress and post updates inside of the game. The game's internal audio is fine, but any sounds "inserted" into the game by Microsoft Li've will be all crackly because they seem to be "competing" with the existing sound effects from the game. It gets really annoying at times.
The "trigger" for this issue?was when I upgraded to a newer NVidia driver for my 7950GX2 graphics card. My sound was fine for years until I updated the driver to 72.xx and newer. However, I am not just talking about the newest driver. This has been happening since June and continues to happen with every NVidia release since then. This happens with every driver beyond 72.xx and now I am using 80.xx. Reverting drivers back to pre June 2008 is most definitely not an option, because I play current games and I update NVidia drivers on a weekly basis as new ones are released.
When the new X-Fi driver came out, I thought finally this problem would be resolved. However, the new driver did nothing to resolve the problem at all. I have tried all versions of the X-Fi driver from 2004 to the present. Nothing fixes the problem.
    Suggestions are welcome... :smileyindifferent:

FRe: Crackling audio (not sure if this is the "same" problem)? Hi, I used to post in these forums a couple of years ago, after an Audigy 4 literally corrupted my hard disk and nearly killed my motherboard's SATA controller.
Anyway, after a lot of debate etc. it turned out that post-Audigy Sound Blasters, including X-Fis, are extremely sensiti've to PCI timing issues and have horrible bus mastering themselves, something which was NEVER quite fixed and keeps popping up time and again. In the best of cases you will get static, in the worse cases you will get BSODs, corrupted data, or even actual damage to the hardware. Not much you can do, really, than putting up with it, like many other users before you did.
P.S.: I'm sure that shortly after this post, a certain user will chime in and start raving about how most chipsets and RAM modules are garbage, and how he uses a super-duper "golden pick" reliable system with a chipset that does everything "nice and slow" and super-reliably and ofc works wonders with ANY "problematic" CL card to date,? and how it's not really CL's fault but that of the garbage mobos, chipsets, ram etc.

  • How to use airplay speakers in multi-output device without crackling audio?

    Hi,
I would like to mirror the audio output from my mac mini to the built-in output and an airplay speaker.
Therefore I added a Multi-Output Device containing  the Built-in- and Airplay output, as soon as I activate the airplay speaker the sound is mirrored but unfortunately always with a crackling sound coming of the speakers set as "slave Device"... only the Device set as "Master Device" has clear sound, doesn't matter if it's the airplay speaker or the speaker (or headphone) directly connected to the built-in output.
I've tested this with a mac mini and an mac book air as audio source, same problem. Both were running Mac OS V. 10.9.2.
Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Greets
    Chris

I'm using a 2011 Macbook Pro running Mavericks and current Apple TV (MD199HK/A 3rd generation) when trying to output audio to both Apple TV and built-in output simultaneously I suffer crackling and popping. I have this issue once I use Audio MIDI Setup (under utilities) to create a Multi-Output Devise. Once I use this multi-output devise made up of Apple TV and Built-In Output to get my music to both output devises at once BUT I get crackling sound on either Spotify or iTunes.
I've worked around this issue by using AirParrot. I select Apple TV in AirParrot with Audio enabled. The Apple TV then takes all audio output, then I select the 'Multi-Output Devise created in 'Audio MIDI Setup' and I have playback through Apple TV and Built-In Output without any crackling or popping.
Only minor outstanding issue is that whatever scenario I then run Audio Midi Setup in terms of setting various devises as Master Clock and resampling of sub devise I can't perfect the sync between Apple TV audio output and my local Macbook Pro, but close enough with the slightest hint of echo. Plenty of forums discussing Word Clock sync which is out of my league. Un-ticking drift correction on the 'AirParrot' audio output has them close enough, depends on how easily you can hear your apple TV output from the room where your Macbook Pro is and vice versa.

  • Crackling audio on my iMac.

I'm running the latest version of OSX and ever since the update I'm getting crackles every now and again on the audio. Regardless of which program it's running. It isn't a hardware issue as I have windows installed on another partition and it's fine. I'm also using an external firewire soundcard the crackling happens when i'm using it or just the standard output on my iMac. I assume it's a software issue and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? Only noticed it since the latest update to OSX.
    thanks

Yeah it does although I don't think it's the f/w soundcard as it happens through the built-in output of the imac as well.

  • Crackling audio after 10.8.5 update

    Hi,
I have a 2013 Macbook Air 11" which ran smoothly up until I updated to 10.8.5.
Now all audio regardless whether it be threw headphones or through the MBA speakers crackles. And I mean all audio, from youtube, spotify and my mp3's.
I haven't been able to find any solutions online I was hoping others knew a possible fix.
    Thanks a lot

I was actually able to solve it. It turned out to be the flash player that was packaged with Google Chrome that was defective.
    This helped me https://discussions.apple.com/message/23081446#23081446
I dont know if it will work for you but its worth a shot

  • 37AV50U, flickering screen and crackling audio

I have a 37-inch Toshiba tv, model number 37AV50U.  Recently, it has started flickering while on.  When it flickers, the entire screen goes black for one to five seconds, then returns to normal.  Whenever it flickers, the audio also crackles.  It does not grow either more or less frequent as the tv is on for long periods of time.  It does have periods of high frequency, when it will flicker many times each minute, and periods of low frequency, when it will flicker perhaps only once every 15 minutes or so.
I am uncertain how to diagnose this, and so any advice would be quite helpful.

Does it happen regardless of input? You should first make sure to isolate whether it's a problem with the source or a problem with the TV.
Try resetting the video and audio settings to defaults from the settings. If that still doesn't help, it might require servicing.

  • Crackling audio after appying letterbox effect

After letterboxing my clips, audio has crackles in it (irregular small clicks, roughly 3 per second). Other than this problem, the audio is of normal volume and quality.
I've verified that the original clips did not have this problem.
This is my first experience with iMovie. This wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if effects rendering on a 1.5 hour movie weren't an overnight job, but well... it is.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   iMovie 5.0.2 (111)

Lame, my first foray into Mac (in years), and I find a bug right off the bat.
Anyway, I've still got the original clips, so no need to re-import. I'll try the audio extraction.
    Thanks for the tip.

  • MSI GE70 20E - Crackling Audio

I have an MSI GE70 20E laptop. I have constant crackling from all audio devices. I have tried headphones, USB headphones, internal speakers, and HDMI to a TV. All of these still crackle during any type of playback. I have tried reinstalling drivers for audio and video and I have uninstalled and reinstalled sound blaster cinema. I have tried disabling my audio devices from the system devices menu one by one. Nothing will get rid of this stupid crackling. I have noticed that it is worse when I am doing something more demanding, like playing video games, but it is always there. Someone please help me fix this.

Same Problem here. My name is Sebastian and I am from germany so please forgive my spelling errors. I did buy a MSI GT70 20C (from Bios) with Windows 8. I did upgrade to Windows 8.1 and have so far no Problems with the machine beside the sound cracking and popping. I can even run a CD without that noise. Like the fellow comrade who did open this thread I did try everything to solve the Problem.
Please Help me! What Information do you need to solve the problem?

  • Intermittent and crackling audio - iPad 3

    Hi
yesterday afternoon my iPad audio started to crackle and then cut out.
IT it came back intermittently but very crackly and only for a few seconds at a time.
I looked through the threads and followed some tips but am still having the same problem.
To clarify, I have done the following:
    plugged in and removed headphones
    plugged in and removed charger
cleaned headphone and charger socket with toothbrush
    hard reset the iPad
    reset networksettings
    reset all iPad settings
    Backed up and  restored iPad
checked the volume isn't muted or the slider switch is set to mute.
Changed the slider button to lock rotation
the audio works fine through Bluetooth speaker and headphones but is not working through the on board external speaker.
    I am running ios7.1.2
Any help would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to take it to the Genius Bar as I have had three friends take mostly working apple products in and come out with completely not working apple products!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Demo.
Thank you fyou for the prompt reply.
To be honest, I feared as much. And being out of warranty I wanted to see if I had exhausted all possibilities before going to the GB.
I Guess it is over two years old however because it's only WIFI it rarely leaves the sofa so was hoping it wasn't an internal fault.
I'll see if I can get into the GB in the next couple of days.

  • PA, ALSA, QL : buffer underruns and crackling audio

i'm running pulseaudio on up-to-date arch, with gnome atm.
The only way i can get the audio in quake live to stop stuttering (spamming buffer underruns in console ) is to set s_alsa_latency in the game very high (a little too high for gaming).
I found a topic with the same symptons on the QL forum but the solutions presented there didnt work for me (s_mixahead and s_mixprestep, s_alsa_latency, s_alsa_pcm to directly acces the divice, bypassing pulse, and setting pulse to time the traditional way). At least not without using very high values for latency(250ish).
I have also followed the arch pulseaudio wiki and the perfect setup guide from the pa website from start to finish multiple times now, but nothing seems to work.
The install is fresh, i reinstalled yesterday. Before that i had the same setup but everything worked (after some tinkering, although i dont remember what i did back then)
So, i was asking myself, could i change something in pulse to fix this, instead of crapping up the latency? Any help on solving this great mistery is apreciated.

Try specifying period_size and buffer_size - see my config below, for more info.
In my experimentation, flash needs a buffer_size of over 6000, roughly.
    E.g.:
    period_size 1024
    buffer_size 8192

  • Crackling Audio

    Hi all!
I'm using Final Cut Express HD and I'm having problems when I import songs from my internal hard drive. They sound fine when they're played . . . until they're put into a Final Cut project and rendered. After that is done, the song suddenly has all these crackling sounds. What is going on? Are my settings wrong? Feel free to explain this to me like I'm a total idiot. I am not a technically-minded person, so if I need to change some settings you'll probably have to spell out it for me in the simplest way possible. I've used Final Cut for a while, but I've never had this particular problem before. Ugh! Oh, and thanks a ton for any help anyone can give me!!!

    Kathy:
You can pay for a Quicktime upgrade for I think
    $25.00 that will
include a feature to convert mp3 files to the
    appropriate AIFF mode.
Just go to Quicktime's website, and get "Quicktime
Pro"...I think that's the name of it.
I had this same issue a few months ago, and it fixed
    it right up.

Thanks, Darren! I'm trying to avoid shelling out more money as I just lost the temporary, crappy retail job I was working. Long story short: the head manager hates one manager so she refused to let him keep on ANYONE he had hired as a seasonal employee (to get back at him for what amounts to actually being her own issues). Unfortunately, I was one of said seasonal employees. Anyway, I appreciate your advice!!!

  • Crackling audio after a few minutes

Hi, I have a problem with audio playback using iTunes on my Thinkpad T40 running WinXP Pro. When I play back music files in iTunes, after a few minutes the audio gets kind of staticky / crackly / jittery. If I pause the audio then then play again, the problem goes away for a few minutes and then comes back. The longer the computer is on, the sooner the problem crops up. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
    Thanks!
    Thinkpad T40   Windows XP Pro

Goto control panel>quicktime>audio tab and check "Safemode" hit OK and reboot for the setting to take.
Also goto the PC makers site and look for updates for your model, like sound card/driver updates and things like BIOs and stuff
