Crashes in Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0....please help!!!

Hi there,
I am hoping someone can help me out - this is the first time I have posted on one of these but I don't know what else to try and I am very close to throwing my laptop out of the window.
The problem in a nutshell is that my Premiere Elements 4.0 crashes all the time! Whenever I try to cut or trim a video clip on the timeline or move it, it crashes. And if I try to export the timeline it begins to export but then crashes and give me an error like "unable to compile movie, unknown error" which is not terribly helpful.
I thought it might be my actual laptop so I wiped EVERYTHING off it back to when I first bought it and got it serviced which made the laptop run really smoothly but I still have the same problem with Premiere. I am at the end of my tether and I called tech support but they said they don't offer tech support on 4.0 and that I should go on the forums.
And here I am!
So can anyone help at all or is it the end for me and premiere?
Look forward to hearing from anyone.
Oh….please bear in mind I am just a regular user and am not a techie so won't understand complicated solutions - step by step is the key I think!

My laptop is a Sony Viao, with a intel Core2 duo processor 2.10 ghz, 4gb of memory, 200gb hdd, running vista home premium, and I have been using this premiere for well over a year without problems.
I have all updates for Vista, Quicktime, etc.

You say that you have all the latest updates. Does this mean that after you reinstalled windows you then updated windows and all drivers? If so then, if the fault is driver related, you will have reinstalled the offending driver. You may have to reinstall windows and then install PRE4 next - before updating windowss and drivers. If that works, you should perform updates one at a time to see which is bringing down PRE.
The other possibility is that maybe your hardware is developing a fault e.g. memory.

How do I recover files after an unexpected crash on adobe premiere elements?

so I use Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on a Mac OS X version 10.7.5. I was editing a project when I got a warning about my start up disk being 'almost full'. I ignored it and continued working. A couple of minuted later elements 'crashed unexpectedly'. I had done a lot of work on that particular project and desperately need to recover it. When I open the project in elements now it shows me the work I had completed the last time I edited the project, but none of the stuff I was doing before the crash.
Is it possible to recover the files? Please help!

Were you working with the AutoSave feature on? If so, have you tried to open the latest of the AutoSave files by right clicking it, selecting Open With, and then Premiere Elements 12 (that is the Premiere Elements 12 Windows way). Does that work for your with Premiere Elements 12 Mac?
The AutoSave feature has two components - one defines how many "snapshots" of the project you will have at a given time and the other defines how often the snapshot will be taken. When the number of snapshots exceeds the number of "how many snapshots of the project you set for a given time", the oldest will be bumped off and so on goes the process - new, bumping off oldest one.
From what you wrote, it sounds like you are working off the latest AutoSave. If so, how many other AutoSaves do you have besides the one you opened?

Crashing/slow Adobe Premiere Elements 8

Overview of probelm: Newer laptop, recently downloaded Adobe Premiere Elements 8, have uploaded 3 videos, all ranging from around 8-10 minutes, and program constantly quits out (around once every 10 minutes), runs extremely slowly, constantly shows messages saying "Adobe Premiere is running low on memory. Suggest you save your work." Also, once a message saying something about a serious error occuring but I could not read it fast enough before it quit.

We already deleted many programs from the computer that took up space so we could put this on the computer.
         -Premiere Program size: 1,878.00MB, next program is Microsoft office at 500.00MB and no other program is even close all under 250.00MB
Already saw an earlier question and preformed some of the very similar tasks that they did.
         - I checked for updates, none available.
          -Disabeled graphics hardware acceleration
          -Enable GPU Playback was already switched off
With a new laptop and not much video being edited, why are we encountering problems so soon? Not a huge computer wizz, so when/if you respond please be detailed in what I would have to do to to fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1.) Checked for updates, said none were avaiable.
2.) We are using a Sony Handycam HDR-CX550V. Connects fine to premiere, i beleive it shoots in HD quality because when we upload it to youtube it has the sybol up there.
3.) I have edited 3 videos fine in the last 3 days. It has given be error messages, program has froze, and other things, but in the end they have been edited and 2 were brought onto our youtube account even though a few times it quit unexpectadly. We went to the camera store where we purchased BOTH the camera and premiere and he ensured us the 2 would work fine together because we were going to get a Mac and use iMovie but we stayed with the current laptop and got adobe premiere. The project is set up in the NTS- DV (something like that) format where I saw on one of your earlier forums that they should.
4.) All videos have been rendered. I use to use FinalCute Express so this program is easy to use. Progam is very simple and nothing is complicated. I have visited all the tutorials and I can edit fine its just the program seems to not be responding.
In the last 20 minutes, it has come to the point where it wont even work. I have tried to edit my 4th video (about 10 mins long) and it was been sucessfully imported where I located it in a media file on our H:. But, when I drag it into the timeline I know its not rendered but when I do it the program completely freezes and I have to force quit and end now.

Computer Crash when adobe Premiere Element 7.0 start

Dear all,
I'm the owner of an Adober Premiere element 7.0 sw (bundled into Sony handycam sw suite).
Unfortunatly, when launching the sw and during the loading of various module, the computer crash (meaning immediate hard reset with restart to bios...)
I'm using Windows XP SP3 on an HP M7449fr (dual core intel 3Ghz + 2GB ram + Ati radeon X1300 on PCiexpress)
i have updated all my drivers, windows XP is update to date.
I don't see what to do more, the crash is systematicall and doesn't let any trace at system level for debugging.

I cannot open the project assets box in premiere elements 12. Please help

I recently started a new project in Premiere elements 12. I added media but when I try to open my project assets, it will not open and I can not add any media to the timeline! This is very annoying please help me out

Just to confirm...
at this time, Project Assets will not open with any new projects. But, if you take an old project (which has been saved closed before the problem set in) can you open that project and use an opened Project Assets Palette?
If you have not already, please work through the suggestions in the link posted in post 1 of this thread. Do any of them work for you?
In the meanwhile, let us delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which it exists.

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. And, if the does not work, delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the path cited.
Also, be sure to be working from the 12.1 Update of the program. The 12.1 Update is accessed from an opened project's Help Menu/Update.

Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Effects Problem - HELP

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 11, and when I use effects the footage ends up speeding up, repeating itself, and just not staying the same as it originally was. Does this have to do with what type of footage it is. I am using screen-captures that I got when using Bandicam. If anyone could help me with this problem, it would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

I use an older file conversion program, DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, but it is NOT freeware. Also, Deskshare, the publisher, has released newer versions.

My story (again) is that I can load my new premiere elements 13 and add photos and videos into the library however when I tick the videos I want to build the video I get asked to sign in, which I do and then click agreed to the licenceing agreeemnet and then thats it. Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Uploading Problem - HELP

I recorded some footage with Bandicam, then editted it, using a lot of clipping and cropping of the footage to give it a widescreen look. When I uploading it, I choose the setting of "High Definition Video for YouTube". When it finally uploaded, it looked out of wack. Footage was shrunk down and the cropping was off. When I re-uploaded it under the setting of "Flash Video for YouTube" it came out perfectly, just not in high quality. What setting should I use this time?

Problems with Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0. HELP?

I've been trying to edit a short film for weeks now but I have quite a few problems with Premiere Elements 4.0. To start with I have a Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite L750-16L with Intel Pentium.
The first and main problem is that I can't import AVCHD (.mts) and Quick Time (.MOV) footage. I have a K-Lite Codec Pack to let me import and export certain types of footage but it seems to not like the footage I want to import.
Another problem I have is that I can't export the project without the program crashing, and sometimes it just crashes or freezes randomly.
I've tried emptying The Cache and using diffrent project settings but with no success.
If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated as I'm stumped about where to go from here.

True. AVCHD was not supported until Premiere Elements 7. Those with Premiere Elements 4 on Windows typically converted the AVCHD to another format so that they could use Premiere Elements 4 as the video editor, providing they had enough computer resources for the task. Yet, there were some who could use AVCHD with Premiere Elements 4.0, but they were the ones working from a Sony Vaio that offered a special plug-in for the AVCHD support and the same computer resources considerations.
Putting aside the AVCHD.mts.
What has not been mentioned yet is your report of not being able to work with what you describe a QuickTime (mov) footage. What are the properties of this footage...video and audio compressions, frame size, frame rate, progressive or interlaced, etc? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 4? And, is your Premiere Elements 4 set Run As Administrator and/or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
Versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 10 are 32 bit applications which run into limitations of the 32 bit operating system. Computer resources and the demands on it from a large sized project may enter into the mix. But, let us clear up the QuickTime (mov) footage situation.

I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and when I try to go to photoshop and click sign in and I type my password and e-mail address in and click sign in it says please wait for a moment then it closes out and nothing happens and btw i have a pc

After taking Paul's advice, you might want to go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, and open it up. Go to Sound, video and game controllers (might be called something similar in Vista). Look for your Realtek High Definition Audio and Dbl-click on it. Open up and check everything there.Make sure you have no errors.
Next, go to Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware and look at ASIO Settings. Check that your Realtek HD Audio output is checked for both Ports (Input & Output).
With Paul's suggestion, and making sure that the Realtek is selected, you *should* not get that error.
If you do, please post back.
I would also recommend Steve Grisetti's two books on Premiere Elements. The first is designated for PE2, but very much of it still applies to later versions. His new book is focused on PE7, but contains a lot of great info on video editing in general (as does the first book).
There is also a forum/site Muvipix, that is dedicated to helping people use aspects of video, audio and still. It also has a lot of great tutorials, plus a lot of Assets, like Menus, and stock footage. Much of that is free and available, and all is accessible with a subscription.

How do I prevent ExporterAVI.prm from crashing in Adobe Premiere Elements?

It has been crashing in both newly installed versions 11 and 12. The workaround has been to rename this plugin in order for Premiere to start. However, I seem to require this plugin for DV imports to work (from a mini-DV camcorder). I don't get "DV" project settings, if I use any other project setting, Premiere crashes after importing the DV footage. I assume it has to do with codecs on my PC. I'm runnning Windows 8, it has been the same with Windows 7 before. Any ideas how to track down the issues are highly appreciated. Thanks.

*** SOLVED ***
Thank you all, I finally solved the problem. A broken Codec caused ExporterAVI to crash upon start up of Premiere. Renaming the plugin solved that crash but of course disabled AVI as file format for saving. The codec is from "Matrox", I have no idea why or how it got installed. I used an application called G Spot to inspect codecs, but G Sport reported an error when loading codecs (time out). G Spot is well behaved reporting a time out, Premiere just crashes, that's the difference.
Anyway, after removing the broken codec, I could enable ExporterAVI again. Then also the project setting for DV files became available, which obviously depend on the ExporterAVI plugin to be loaded.

Adobe Premiere Elements 3 Playback Issues HELP

So every time i playback, export, or render this video an error message shows up about 64% through. It makes me close the program! then you go to open it again and rename it but you try it again and it keeps doing it!
What can i do?

Also, how much free, defragmented space is left on your hard drive? And what video format are you using as your source files? If photos, are they sized to no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size, per our FAQs?

How to install content cd for Adobe Premiere Elements 10?

I am unable to install the content cd for Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Please help.

I removed the programs from my computer and reinstalled them. I installed
both Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 10 from disk
1. Then I installed all of the content folders from disk 4 (content).
When I open the Premiere Elements Program a dialogue box asked if I wanted
to add content, I checked yes and an internet site opened and I was able to
download the content.
There must have been something wrong with my original installation of the
program as this didn't happen before.

Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 compatible with OS X Yosemite?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 that I use on my IMAC. I recently updated my operating system to OS X Yosemite and when I go to use the add menus portion of the the program it consistently crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and it still crashes when trying to add disc menu's to my movie? Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 not compatible with OS X Yosemite? Do I need to upgrade my version of Adobe Premiere Elements for the program to work? Larry

I am strictly an Elements Windows person and do not have a Mac computer to road test this one. I do remember that question being asked before. My recollection is that Premiere Elements 10 is, but it a recollection which I would need to research. Most of the threads with that question can be found unanswered.
Does Premiere Elements 10 run on Yosemite?
Most of the "Elements" discussions with information revolve around Photoshop Elements Mac and Yosemite.
Are you running the program as Administrator and do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? Is it only disc menus that bring the project down? Is it all disc menus or just one or two that are involved in the issue?
But, first I would ask "What video card/graphics card are your computer use?" Therein may be the problem if the card is a NVIDIA GeForce one.
You could try delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which I believe can be found in Mac
Users/Owner/Libraries/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0
Please review and consider.
