Create a cross tab or Pivot

Hi ,
can anybody help me in achieving an output
For Ex:
Order NO Order Type ,Quantity, supplier
1               X                3             4
2               Y                2             4
3               Z                45            34
to an out put like this
Order No  Supplier  X    Y   Z
1                4          3
2                4               2
3                 34                  45
In BI publisher
I have many order types so dynamically the column should be added and corresponding quantity should come under it .
Any Idea how to create this.,, I have tried PIVOT table option , but it is creation sub-groups for order no and then again supplier . I donot want that.
Regards
ANkit

Hi Marsh,
To achieve your requirement, you may reference the below query.
--pivot the table to get the expected output
;WITH cte AS(
SELECT *,ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY LocationDesc,BandGroup ORDER BY BandGroup) AS rn FROM [TmpBandGroup]
SELECT LocationDesc,[>=360],[>=300],[>=270],[>=240],[<240]
FROM cte
PIVOT
(MAX(EmployeeName) FOR BandGroup IN([>=360],[>=300],[>=270],[>=240],[<240])) PVT
ORDER BY LOCATIONDESC
--the pivot result can be validated with the queries below
;WITH cte AS(
SELECT *,ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY LocationDesc,BandGroup ORDER BY BandGroup) AS rn FROM [TmpBandGroup]
,cte2 AS
SELECT RN, LocationDesc,[>=360],[>=300],[>=270],[>=240],[<240]
FROM cte
PIVOT
(MAX(EmployeeName) FOR BandGroup IN([>=360],[>=300],[>=270],[>=240],[<240])) PVT
SELECT LocationDesc, COUNT([>=360]) [>=360] ,COUNT([>=300]) [>=300],COUNT([>=270]) [>=270],COUNT([>=240]) [>=240],COUNT([<240]) [<240]
FROM cte2
group by LocationDesc
ORDER BY LocationDesc
SELECT LocationDesc,bandgroup,COUNT(EmployeeName) FROM [TmpBandGroup] group by LocationDesc ,bandgroup
ORDER BY LocationDesc,bandgroup DESC

• Creating a Cross tab that contains fields with shared variables

I am trying to create a cross tab in CR2008. I can get the field in the details but cannot choose it when trying to create a cross tab. Please help.
Thanks.
Shared numbervar MonHrs;
Shared numbervar TueHrs;
Shared numbervar WedHrs;
Shared numbervar ThuHrs;
Shared numbervar FriHrs;
Shared numbervar SatHrs;
Shared numbervar SunHrs;
If dayofweek(today) = 1
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * SunHrs else
if dayofweek(today) = 2
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * MonHrs  else
if dayofweek(today) = 3
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * TueHrs else
if dayofweek(today) = 4
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * WedHrs else
if dayofweek(today) = 5
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * ThuHrs else
If dayofweek(today) = 6
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * FriHrs else
if dayofweek(today) = 7
then {@CapacityTeamCount} * SatHrs

I don't use CR cross tabs as a matter of preference so I can't tell you if the shared variables are having an impact on their availability in the cross tab dialog or how to make the necessary adjustments...
I can, however, tell you that you don't need a cross tab for what you are trying to do. All you need to do is split all of the IF formulas in to their own formulas.
This will place each day in it's own column.
Now... you'll notice that there's a lot white space and nothing's aggregated... Not to worry, it's easy to fix.
Just create a grouping on which ever field you were going to use as "rows" in the cross tab... insert SUM totals in the group header... and hide the details.
Now you have created your own manual cross tab, without using CR's cross tab object.

• How to create a Cross Tab view

hi all
I have a table with records with this format:
Year, Month, Id, Value
2006, 01, 1, 10
2006, 02, 1, 15
2006 03, 1, 5
2006, 01, 2, 6
2008, 05, 1, 8
What I need to do is a view that will select these records for a specific year and show a column per month and a total column for the whole year. Rows will be by ID and every cell will show values
how can I do that?

Something like...
SQL> with t as (select 2006 as yr, 1 as mnth, 1 as id, 10 as val, 5 as daysusage from dual union all
2             select 2006, 2, 1, 15, 2 from dual union all
3             select 2006, 3, 1, 20, 1 from dual union all
4             select 2006, 4, 1, 2, 1 from dual union all
5             select 2007, 1, 1, 11, 7 from dual union all
6             select 2007, 2, 1, 10, 7 from dual union all
7             select 2007, 3, 1, 22, 6 from dual union all
8             select 2007, 4, 1, 20, 10 from dual)

18        ,max(decode(mnth, 4, daysusage)) as m4_days
19        ,sum(daysusage) as total

• Creating a header for rows/columns in cross-tab with syntax

Hi,
The issue is creating strings for rows or columns' headers. How can I create a formula field which contains more than one seperate string. Such as "aaa", "bbb" and "ccc" are headers and they should be in seperate columns. In short, they will behave like characteristics of one of my query's field but they are just headers of the columns.
..............aaa...bbb...ccc....
row1.......x.......x........x.....
row2.......y.......y........y.....
Also there is another issue about the formulation again. Is there any operator that does the same job as " \n" which is used in C languages to break the line?
before:
aaabbb
after:
aaa
bbb

Hi Carl;
Firstly, thanks for answering my question. To explain my problem there are two options ahead(for my first question); first one is writing down the actions step by step, the second one is posting an image file(jpeg etc) to visualize it. I think the first one will be enough. If not tell me
Step 1- Create a cross-tab and right click and select cross-tab expert.
Step 2- Click the button "New Formula" and write down any word(such as "Sales") between two -"- sign to make it string.Then save and close.
Step 3- Drag and drop the created formula to "columns" section and fill the other necessary sections with your database's(such as xtreme.mdb which is famous for crystal users) fields.Don't forget to add another column value to "columns" section, since our formula has no link to database.
Step 4- Then click OK to save the changes and lets preview the cross-tab.The result will have one top column and his child or children(that depends on your data). And this top column is behaving like a header not a field.
Now turn the second step but write down a formula for 2 columns or more.For exmple "Sales" and "Profit".So the result will have 2 top columns and their child/children.
My question is "what is the formula for 2 or more columns?"
Also I couldn't get the answer for my second question. What is the meaning of expressions "\c" and ChrW(13)?

• How to create cross tab reports using RAS SDK api with Crystal Reports XI

Hi Everybody,
Iam generating reports in a web-based application with Crystal Reports XI using Report Application Server(RAS) SDK API. The columns in my report exceed that of an A4 sized page. So, when I export that report to pdf, only those columns that fit to a page are showing up. To solve, this problem, I thought of using cross tab. But, I donot know how to generate cross tab report using RAS SDK API. I have tried to get some code from the internet. But, I did not find any java code for that.Can some one give me some sample code.It is very urgent.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The easiest way I use is to create the worksheet as regular table and then when i verify the data I get (non aggregate) I duplicate it as a cross tab.
In the duplication wizard I just need to define the axis (using drag and drop).
if you want to create a cross tab from the beginning you need to define that in the new workbook wizard (check the "cross tab" rather then "table"), chose your fields and define the place you want them.
The data point (the center of the cross tab) is aggregated as to your machine definition and will happen automatically.
for example: to find the amount of receipt by months:
On the left put the "Buyer Name", on top put the "Months" and in the data point put the amount.
What you'll get is something like:
months: jan feb mar apr ......
buyer_name
jhon_smith 100 50 30 250 ......
jhon_doe 80 45 90 453 ........
and so on.....

• How to create Cross Tab using Desktop

Hi Everyone,
We use Sundard Banner (Universities) with Discoverer.
I would like to create a Cross tab
| Final Grade
|_______________________________
Course Title|
|
|
Valid grade values are: HP - High Honors
H - Honors
P - Passed
Suppose we had 3 students for class: Emergency Medicine
George Washington - HP
John Adams - HP
Abraham Lincoln - H
Would like query to look like this:
| HP, | H | P
|_________ |_____|_________________
Emergency Medicine| 2 | 1
|
|
Can this be done using Desktop, pls advise... thx, Sandra

Hi Rod,
Thx for your help.... I think I got it to work... Can I run the steps by you:
a) create table query with: course title, final grade, count of final grade
b) duplicated query as cross tab
c) dragged course title to left
d) noticed that Discoverer create a "field" - called data point for: count of final grade
e) delete all vertical fields and just left count of final grade
quests, please:
===========
1) I tried a few times to create a cross tab before posting quest, and this is the first time that I see that
Discoverer automatically created a field called datapoint for count of final grade. Do you have to follow
a crosstab workflow carefully to the data point field to be created?
2) what is definition of data point?
3) Please confirm: The data point is located in the white space of the cross tab?
4) Please confirm: When running the query, the values of final grades run across the top,
including "blank" column for null value
5) If (4), there is a column to tabulate rows with null values, why is the value 0, instead of an actual row count
6) Under the various column values, is the name of the datapoint field running as a second heading row
EH | H | HP
Final_Grade Count | Final_Grade Count | Final_Grade Count | Final_Grade Count
I will try to paste 3 screen shots below, using the "Plain text Help" box to the right of the screen
thx again for your help. sandra

• How create SQL for Cross tab in template

Hi,
I have been starting to build data templates using SQL to select the data I require. I noticed in the word template-building tool there is an option to create cross tab table. I have tried looking at the standard documentation. I have been unable to work out how I should structure the SQL in my data template to allow me to create a cross tab table in the template?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, I had done exactly the same but when tried to display the subreport in new page, some portion of the cross tab is displayed. The page width is not increased proportionately.
i have passed that sub report in footer of main report.
But when i overlap this sub report with other cross tabs already present in the main report i can see full width view of sub report.

• Crystal Report Cross Tab Report

In crystal report 2008, i created a cross tab report. Column shows sales order number and rows show item number.
For columns that shows sales order #, I also wanted to show sales person name field right beside it. In cross tab expert, I added the field salesperson name.
However, crystal cross tab shows the sales person at a separate column with duplicate information. I only want to show sales order no. with sales person name under one column. Is there a way to achieve this? Thanks.

This would be a hard job.
Have you tried Pivot Table function in Excel? You can play with it and get some ideas.
Thanks,

• Cross-tab column name sorting

Hi
I created a cross-tab report in Bi Publisher, the sorting in the column names is sorted in alphabetical order. How do I customize this in the order I expected?
Thank you in advance,
Jean

Thank you Jorge!
I used the pivot table to create the template in word. I check the link and it is what I need. But the template I created is so different. I am very new to BI Publisher. the following is the what I have in the field browser:
crosstab:c547;"//ROW";"ETHNIC{,o=a,t=t}";"S_TYPE{,o=a,t=t}";"EMP_ID";"count"?>
<?horizontal-break-table:1?>
<?for-each@column:$c547//C1?>
<?./H?>
<?end for-each?>
<?for-each:$c547//R1?>
<?./H?>
<?for-each@cell:.//R1C1?>
<?./M1?>
<?end for-each?>
<?./T1?>
<?end for-each?>
<?for-each@cell:$c547//C1?>
<?./T1?>
<?end for-each?>
<?$c547//M0/M1/T?>
How do I make the S_TYPE in my order, like the sample you gave me (Wednesday before Thursday)?
Thanks,

• Is there a limit to no. of summary fields that can be used in a cross tab?

Hi,
While creating a cross tab is there a limitation to number of summarized fields that can be used?
- The cross tab when uses 184 fields as summary fields leads to Crystal report application to crash at the time of export to excel.
- Tried with two Datasources: XML and excel
- If we reduce the number of summary fields used to 102 exactly, export works fine in excel.
- If 2 cross tabs are used each containing 92 summary fields(in order to show 184) export to excel works fine.
Please let me know if there is any such limitation which leads to CR application to crash when exporting in excel?
Thanks

What I've done in the past is create a new formula for your "value" field similar to this and put it in your cross-tab:if {original value field} is "" then [0] else {original value field}the purpose is to create a record value (e.g. 0) where there is no record. I hope that this helps.

• Cross Tab - select dates

Hi I have created a cross-tab report using only two fields. enrollment_id and create_date. What is needed is a count of the # of enrollments and a summary for the week starting on Sunday. I have been able to do this however, they only want for the previous 4 weeks - I am returning all weeks since the start. I am not sure where to filter. Here is what I used in a regular report which worked but is not working in the cross-tab. The formula below gives me up to the last 4 weeks sunday to today.
not ({ISSUANCE.CREATE_DATE}in Last4WeeksToSun) and
not ({ISSUANCE.CREATE_DATE} in WeekToDateFromSun)

• How to count number of columns in cross-tab report

I have created a cross-tab report and have managed to get the data out as below:
Jan Feb Mar....(display of months will auto expand) Avg/Mo Total
UserA     4          3        4                                                                         11
UserB     6          1        1                                                                          8
UserC     5          5        5                                                                         15
Total       15        9        10                                                                        33
I want to insert a calculated column (Avg/Mo) into the cross-tab report based on the formula: Total/Number of Months. I used this calculation formula for Avg.Mo column:
(GridValueAt(CurrentRowIndex, CurrentColumnIndex+1, CurrentSummaryIndex)/GetNumColumns)
However, I get the wrong average since GetNumColumns count the total number of columns including the column of Avg/Mo and Total.
How do i get the number of columns, excluding the Avg/Mo calculated column and Total column?
PS: I can't use hardcode since the number of months/columns will auto expand the months progress...

ok managed to solve this by slightly changing the formula:
GridValueAt(CurrentRowIndex, CurrentColumnIndex+1, CurrentSummaryIndex)/(GetNumColumns-2)

Open Cross Tab Expert, near the bottom left you can select new formula, in there You can create a formula and add it to the cross-tab summarized fields.
