Creating 16:9 mpeg1 files

we are always supplied picture as pal 16:9 fha photojpeg files (ie it appears as a skinny 4:3 picture) for our audio post facility. i want to create an mpeg1 file (as it'll play on even our most luddite-ish clients' computers) but have it change the aspect ratio so it appears as a 16:9 image. i've got a workaround for this which requires me to use compressor to make the mpeg1 file then i open that file in qt7 pro and change the aspect ratio. then save that as a self-contained movie (which adds the .mov suffix). then i change the .mov to .mpg
i'm told that cleaner6 can do this in one step and i feel pretty sure that compressor should be able to do so as well.
any suggestions as to how?

unfortunately compressor cannot do what you are seeking.
cleaner is the way to go, but if you already have a work-around that works for you, keep doing it that way.

You can convert MPEG-1 with Mpegstream Clip. However, you'll have to demux the MPEG-1 file. To demux the MPEG-1 file open it in MPEG Streamclip and navigate to Demux to AIFF via the File pull-down menu. You need not bother with Demuxing the video because when you compress your MPEG-1 muxed files in many cases you will get a video only file. Once you compress the video, you can re-assemble the audio and video in Quicktime Pro. This will give you a separate audio file. If you don't own a QuickTime Pro key then you can also assemble your files in an alternate video app like Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro and then export to QuickTime.

IMovie HD doesn't recognize sound track from MPEG1 files

My camera creates MPEG1 files which IMovie HD doesn't recognize the sound track. The Apple Store tech told me to purchase Quicktime Pro & save my files as MPEG4. After doing so IMovie finds no audio source.
Also I tried to reinstall IMovie (not HD) which worked fine, but it won't reinstall.
What to do?

Create a Site Definition file with Visual Web part in Visual Studio

I tried to create a site definition file in Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013 by following the MSDN tutorial:
Walkthrough: Create a Basic Site Definition Project. Near the end, I added a virtual web part control to the site definition and registered MyWebPartControls in the site definition's default ASPX page as written in the MSDN tutorial:
Unfortunately, IntelliSense doesn't show any MyWebPartControls: tags, and VisualWebPart1 is highlighted with a warning “Element 'SMWebPart3' is not a known element. This can
occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the web.config file is missing.”
Since it’s a warning, I went ahead to build and deploy the solution. However, when I used the site definition template to create a subsite, it returned a parser error:
Unknown server tag 'MyWebPartControls:TestSiteDef1.VisualWebPart1'
I spent half day researching and debugging, and finally solved the problem. The issue is on the registration line:

The $SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$ is a replaceable parameter to provide values for SharePoint solution items whose actual values are not known at design time. Unfortunately, it does not find the right assembly name during the deployment. It should
be replaced by the Assembly’s Strong Name. Here is how I fixed the problem step by step:
In Solution Explorer, open the package node and double click Package.package
Click Manifest tab in the Package.package.
Copy the full assembly name in the package’s manifest. It may be similar like this:
Assembly="TestSiteDef,
Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a300f1f2da8ae976"
Back to the site definition’s default.aspx page, replace the
Assembly="$SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName"
in the registration line with the copied text:

Change the Namespace from

Clean, build and deploy the solution. It works like charm. (Note: the warning message on visual web part may still exist, but you can ignore it).

Assuming your .ascx.vb file is inheriting from the web part class, you can add the custom properties in the same manor (language syntax aside).
Be sure to use the attributes to correctly identify and scope the properties. (see:

If you use iTunes' default settings then when you add a file to iTunes it places a copy of the file in the iTunes media folder and it leaves the original in place. The exception is when you drag it to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
It does not convert the file. You can delete the original if you wish.

How to create a New Excel File programmatically

I am documenting acquired data continuously in an excel file, what I need to do is to create a new excel file automatically when the size of the previous file exceeds a certain limit lets say 1MB.
I have tried using the simple 'Create/Open File' function and the 'Write to Spreadsheet File' function to create the new excel file. I does create a file but when I open the file it says the format of the file is not what you have opened it with.
Also when the new file is created, three new worksheet are to be added programmatically with pre-defined worksheet name and also Column headers for each of the worksheet are to be added.
I am also using 'Labview Report Generation Toolkit for Office'.

Thanks for the reference to tutorial, I didn't know about them. They are useful in general but unfortunately they don't answer the problem of creating an altogether new excel file programmatically.

The template thing simplifies the issue of formatting the new file. But I am still working on the new excel file creation challenge.
Let me put my problem in a different way.
Certain data is being acquired continually and is being written to a certain excel file, when the size of the file exceeds lets say 1MB the program should start saving the data in a NEW FILE instead of the previous file.
I have attached the VI to explain what I am trying to achieve here.

ITunes doesn't create an "iTunes Library" file

I'm desperate - since a couple of days every time I restart my computer iTunes library is empty, I have to move all the content to the library again. And subscribe to all the 39 podcasts again!!!
Next day... everything starts from the beginning!
I've read the support pages for iTunes and found out that my iTunes doesn't save an "iTunes Library" file in the Music/iTunes folder. Instead, it creates hundreds of temporary files (iT 1.tmp, iT 2.tmp, iT 3.tmp, and so on).
It happened before upgrading to iTunes 10 - I upgraded thinking that it could help, but nothing changed.
Anyone had a similar problem? Please help me!

Yes, I moved the iTunes folder to the shared folder
Made an alias and moved it to my Users/myhome/music and removed the alias symbol.
If you moved the entire iTunes folder and created aliases, that would be the reason that iPhoto and iMovie can't find the proper file. You should only have moved the 'iTunes Music' folder
Many applications don't perform well when files are to be opened and stored using an alias.
I'm pretty sure iTunes creates an updated .xml file every time you make changes, but it's at the wrong location for iPhoto and iMovie to find it.
I tried what you did, by moving my (test) iTunes folder to the Shared folder, create an alias, renamed it to 'iTunes' and put it at ./Users/Username/Music.
Neither iPhoto and iMovie were able to find my (test) music files.
Those apps. will only look at ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes for the .xml file and obviously cannot find it using the alias.
I tried the same procedure using a symbolic link (a 'better' alias) and that worked out alright. You can create a symbolic link by using the Terminal (take a look at this brief tutorial), but it's more convenient to use SymbolicLinker. After installing it, you can then easily create a symlink of a file or folder by control-clicking on it and choosing 'Make Symbolic Link' from the contextual menu.
If you want to know more about symlinks in general, take a look at this Wiki or Google for "Symbolic Link Macintosh" (without the quotes) to find more articles.
While symlinks do work in this case (at least on my system), I will give you the link to the article which describes the 'Apple preferred way' to share your music (in case symlinks don't work on your system).

Hi everyone,
I am working on the client's requirement where i have to create a SCROM 2004 based video. Its basically a PPT inside the captivate file. And it has around 175 slides in the file. Some of the slides have animations, voiceover. I am facing a problem during PUBLISHING the file into single SWF file format. Whenever I Publish the slides as SWF, it creates number of SWF files, Swf skin of the player and other manifest, Scorm 2004 files.
I want only one single SWF file in which every slide should be incorporated in it. Dont know, why it is happening? I tried aggregator for this also, but it didnt worked... The Skin.swf has been easily added and no other files are adding. It shows me an error: "Name.swf is not a AS3 Captivate file ....."
I am new to this. Please help me out as I have a very short deadline for this.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

How do I create an after effects file with an interchangeable image

Hey,
hope someone can help me, I'm using after effects to create a mp4 file, it contains a photo which has a animation super imposed ontop of it.
When the projects finished the base photo that the animation is created around could change up three times a day.
What I'm trying to work out is a way for a non technical user to just be able to upload the new photo to somewhere and for the animation to be created and returned somehow to him so that the animator doesn't have to re open and edit the affect effect project each time a new photo comes in.
Is there a way to do this built into after effects does any one know?

You can manually enter the path to the 2012 feed and it will connect and download the RemoteApps and Desktop connections.

Wanted to know that how should i go about creating a custom EAR file or for that matter any application and deploy it onto a test oc4j instance created within the 10.1.3 Home of Oracle Apps R12.
I believe in a standalone Application server installation it is quite simple to deploy an application by creating an oc4j instance using the AS console ,but not very sure about how to go about it in Oracle Apps .
N.B:I have been able to create a test oc4j instance by the name of Test and able to start and stop it using the opmn of 10.1.3 oracle home.

In RMAN
copy current controlfile to '/u03/oradata/WEBDB/backup/cf_longterm.cpy';
how can I put date at the end of filename like
initWEBDB8jan06.ora and cf_longterm8jan06.cpy

ASM is reliable but a smart DBA is very careful. If ASM is doing mirroring this is like RAID doing mirroring. What happens if you accidentally delete one copy ... the other one disappears instantly. Not a good idea.
With respect to redo logs you need a minimum of three groups, two members, and one thread per instance. So a 2 node cluster should, at a minimum have 12 physical files.
Not mirroring the redo logs, assuming multiple members, is not as critical.
