  • IDOC / Bapi to create a Controlling Area

    Hi all,
I'm searching for an IDOC or a Bapi to be called to distribute controlling areas records between CO system and HR system.
    Anyone has an idea?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roberto.

    Hi,
You are not very clear on what you are looking for. If you have set the configuration as such then the BP is automatically created when the customer is created. The complete BP set up and configuration can be found in
    Note 956054 - BP_CVI Customer-vendor integration as of ERP2005 (ECC600)
If your customers have already been set up then you can create Business Partners by using the synchronization cockpit
For more information on using the Synchronization Cockpit, see the SAP Library  under SAP ERP Central Component -> Cross-Application Components -> Master Data Synchronization -> Synchronization Cockpit
You can only create BP's here by range or individually.  There is the T-Code FLBPD1 to create BP manually.
Do a trial run first on your test system and see what BP are showing errors (Check this in MDS_PPO2)
Further you could use an LSMW but bear in mind that you will not have the link between the BP and the Customer. This needs to be established separately. SAP has a program for that to create the customer link. (I recommend to do everything as automated as possible)
    Hope this helps

  • Why profit center is created at controlling area leve and cost center is not

    Hi All,
I want to know why we create profit center at controlling area level i.e., a profit center can be used by multiple company codes under that controlling area. While cost center is at company code level as in one cost center can only be used in one company code.
Please explain the logic behind this design in SAP and in real business scenarios.
    Regards,
    Satan

    Hi,
Cost centres (and other CO objects, e.g. internal order, WBS, etc.) are part of Cost Accounting component of SAP Controlling domain (CO). Profit centres are part of Enterprise Controlling (EC) domain, namely of EC-PCA. So, these two objects are not even belonging to the same domain and have, therefore, different perspective of business functionality. SAP has created reporting objects on different level of control: business areas on client level, cost centres - on company code level, profit centres - on controlling area level, etc. All this is a part of system design in functional prism of system's evolution.
Of course, technically speaking, one could have created profit centres on company code level or vice versa, cost centres on controlling area level, but it would have provoked similar questions.

  • Creating or Copying controlling area

Can you please tell me, what is the standard SAP best practice:
    1) To copy controlling area from existing 0001. (I tried copying from 0001 co area but could not)
    2) Creating new controlling area.
Please let me know. I will be helpful.
    Priya

    Hi,
I think the best way to avoid the further config is Copy by Template like CoAr and CoCd. It will save lot of time in maintaining the number ranges (KANK). Also all std doc types are automatically set.
Ofcourse one should localize the sample org to their country so that Currency and Fiscal Year Var are set auto.
Sometimes while copying SAP gives error regd some table entries.(Error TK455). Pl search SAP note by the same message no. and delete the field values like 12 for REICHWEITE.
    Hope it clears the doubts.

when you are creating a Controlling Area Cost Centre Standard Hierarchy is mandatory to can as well give the Std. Hier. while creating Controlling area itself and save it. The System will remind you that the said hierarchy is not maintained and should it be maintained now?

  • Controlling area does not exist in assignment ?

    Hi,
I've created & assinged controlling area to the company code , But then When I used PPOME to create org unit and assign the Controlling area , It did not exist in the list ? How can i configure this
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Check in V_TKA01_GD table (assign company code to controlling area) whether controlling area is assigned to company code properly or not. If it is assigned properly then in PPOME Tcode in Account Assignment tab once you enter your company code Controlling area will be selected automatically.
If controlling area is not assigned to company code properly then you will not able to see that in PPOME. In this case you can take help from FI consultant as they only create Controlling area and assign it to company code.

  • Maintain controlling area

    Hi Guys,
When i am trying to maintain the controlling area I am getting the following error. I am trying to use the copy function when trying to create the controlling area and it is giving the following message
"You can only copy or replace object area in structure mode"
How can we create the controlling area.
    Thanks,
    Srikanth.

    Hi All,
I am also getting the same error, mentioned below.
You can only copy or replace object Controlling area in structure mode
    Message no. CZ448
    Diagnosis
You can only copy or replace the organizational object Controlling area in structure mode, because multiple object dependencies need to be considered.
    System Response
The action cannot be carried out in single mode.
    Procedure
Copy or replace the org. object in structure mode. Choose "Structure" and select a suitable enterprise structure from "Templates" or enter your own choice in "Navigation".
I tried to create controlling area many times with same procedure but system always shows same error which i had mentioned above.
Chart of accounts & fiscal year variant are same of both controlling area 0001 & company code 0001. Also company code 0001 is assigned to controlling area 0001.
Still i am getting this error every time when i create controlling area.
Steps which i am following while creating controlling area are - Enterprise Structure - Definition - Controlling - Maintain Controlling Area. In last step i am creating controlling area in activity "Copy, Delete, Check Controlling Area".
Please advice solution for the same.
    Earliest reply would be appreciated.

  • What are Controlling component, Controlling area component code?

    Hello Experts,
Can you help me understand the following terms as used in the following 4 quotes from the SAP site:
What is “controlling component”, “controlling area” and “component code” and how are they related? I will appreciate explanations with real life examples.
Can you also help explain each of the 4 quotes with examples. Thanks.
    Quotes:
    1. “You can define a maximum of 16 posting periods for each fiscal year in the Controlling component (CO)“
    2. “You need to specify the fiscal year variant for each company code. “
    3. “When you create a controlling area, you also need to specify the fiscal year variant”
    4. “The fiscal year variants of the company code and controlling area may only differ in the number of special periods used. You need to ensure that the fiscal year variants match, in other words, they may not have a time conflict.”

    Hi
    1) firstly, let me tell you one thing that
    Controlling is referred as Component.
like Order Management as one component.
    Profitability Analysis is as component.
    Activity-Based as component.
2)similar to company code in FI "Controlling area" in controlling.
Company code has legal entity:generally organization is company code.
Controlling area doesn't have legal entity.
because the will define for internal purpose.
to know the costs of the organization.
3)To Build relation between FI and Controlling we assign the Controlling area to Company code.
FI--- IS FOR EXTERNAL REPORTING PURPOSE.
    CO--  IS FOR INTERNAL PURPOSE.
4)Fiscal year variant and Posting periods are defined at FI Level. Those only we use in Contolling Area.

  • Controlling area currency - urgent

    Hi,
In a project we are using Controlling Area Currency as INR. As our group company is europe based they want us to change to EUR. We are also using PCA where currency is INR. I want to know the pros and cons of changing the same to EUR from INR.
    Bye,
    Ramesh

    Hello
Check this if it could help you
When you create a controlling area, you specify whether the controlling area currency may differ from the company code currency, and which particular currency is to be the controlling area currency.
You can use the company code currency or the currency of a different organizational unit recorded as a parallel currency in the company code. You can also use a separate controlling area currency not dependent on the company code currency.
Cross-company code cost accounting can therefore be performed for company codes that use values recorded in different currencies. SAP recommends that you specify a consistent parallel currency for the company codes, and use this as the controlling area currency. In this case, postings in Controlling are made that are relevant for Accounting.
The following currencies are valid in Controlling:
    · Controlling area currency
The system uses this currency for cost accounting. This currency is set up when you create the controlling area. It is based on the assignment control indicator and the currency type.
(see:  Specifying Controlling Area Currency )
    · Object currency
Each object in Controlling, such as cost center or internal order, may use a separate currency specified in its master data. When you create an object in CO, the SAP system defaults the currency of the company code to which the object is assigned as the object currency. You can specify a different object currency only if the controlling area currency is the same as the company code currency. There is an object currency for the sender as well as one for the receiver.
    · Transaction currency
Documents in Controlling are posted in the transaction currency. The transaction currency can differ from the controlling area currency and the object currency. The system automatically converts the values to the controlling area currency at the exchange rate specified.
The system always translates actual data with the average rate (exchange rate type M).
You store the exchange rate type for each currency. You can specify a different exchange rate type for planning data in the version.
All three currencies are saved in the totals records and the line items. This enables you to use the different currencies for evaluations in the information system. This is only possible if you specified that all currencies should be updated for the given controlling area (see: Maintain Controlling Area).
The transaction currency is USD, the controlling area currency is EUR, and the object currency is SFR (Swiss francs). The system converts the amounts as follows:
1.) From transaction currency to controlling area currency (USD ® EUR)
2.) From controlling area currency to object currency (EUR ® SFR)
The following additional currencies may also appear as controlling area currencies in Controlling if you use cross-company code cost controlling:
    Local Currency:
Company code currency (country currency) used for local ledgers in external accounting.
For each company code you can specify one or two parallel currencies (= second and third local currencies) which are stored in the documents and updated parallel to the local currency in the general ledger.
    Group Currency:
Currency in which the group balance sheet is displayed.
You can specify it as a parallel currency (additional local currency) for a company code.
    Hard Currency:
Secondary currency for countries with high inflation. You can specify it as a parallel currency (additional local currency) for a company code. You need to specify the hard currency in the detail screen for the corresponding country.
    Index-Based Currency:
Country-specific, fictitious currency stipulated in certain countries with high inflation for tax returns. You can specify it as a parallel currency (additional local currency) for a company code. You need to specify the index-based currency in the detail screen for the corresponding country.
    Global Company Currency:
Currency used in a corporate group. In the CO application component you can create companies to represent divisions, regions, or product groups.
You can specify it as a parallel currency (additional local currency) for a company code. You need to store the global company currency in the detail screen for the corresponding company.
For more information on defining parallel currencies, see Customizing under Financial Accounting ® FI Global Settings ® Company Code ® Parallel Currencies ® Defining additional local currencies.

  • One Controlling Area for Two CoCds with different Fiscal Year variant

    Hi,
I have a Company code with FYV "A1" with 12 Periods (Apr - Mar) - Fiscal year start at Apr-01 and ends Mar-31 of the next year.
I have another company code with FYV "B1" with 12 Periods (Jan-Dec). - Fiscal year start at Jan-01 and ends Dec-31.
Chart of Accounts for both the company code is same.
Can I assign these two company codes to one Controlling Area?
When I try to assign the company codes, I got the following warning message.
    Differing fiscal year variants: A1 - B1
    Message no. KT297
    Diagnosis
Fiscal year variant A1, controlling area 1000, does not agree with fiscal year variant B1, company code 5001.
    The following entries must agree:
    - Same number of posting periods (the number of special periods may vary)
    - Same period limits
    Procedure
Ensure that the fiscal year variants of the controlling area and the assigned company codes agree. If necessary, maintain the fiscal year variants.
    1. What is the meaning of "Same period limits"?
    2. Does it mean the fiscal year start and end date must be same?
    3. What is the impact of the warning message?
    Thanks
    Palani

Having same fiscal year variant is one of the requirements for different company codes to be under one controlling area.
The FYV for the company codes and the controlling area can have a different number of special periods. The number of posting periods must be the same.
Impact of warning message: You cannot create one controlling area for both company codes (1:n assignment).
If you like, you can create one controlling area for one compnay code with FYV A1 and another controlling area for another company code with FYV B1.
PS: Please reward the points if you find the answer as useful and rewarding points is a way of saying thanks.

  • Different Company Code with same fiscal year variant and controlling area

    Hi
I have three company codes in three three different countries: 1000 (ABC India), 2000 (ABC Inc, US), 3000 (ABC Dubai)
But our consultants have assigned only one fiscal year variant V3 and one controlling area 1000 (with fiscal year variant v3)
So what problem one may face because of above settings and what is ideal setting for such scenario
    Edited by: Meenu_ND on Oct 18, 2010 2:35 PM

I have one leading ledger and two non leading ledger (i.e Group ledger and IFRS ledger). But Fiscal year variant is not mentioned for both the non leading ledgers.
So i think it will take V3 only for non leading ledgers too.
And in your solution, since India is main company, fiscal year variant for leading ledger needs to be V3 only.
What if i keep non leading ledger as fiscal year from Jan to Dec. Then it will be:
    Leading Ledger: April to March
Non leading ledger: Jan to Dec
In above case, do i need to create separate controlling area ?
