Creating a pre-configured SQL instance installation file

Hi,
Is it possible to create a pre-configured SQL instance installation file?
I want to pre-configure authentication mode, sa password, collation etc so that users will just need to run the .exe and everything will be done for them. At the moment users need to run a batch file that contains the unattended installation script, but
that is proving to be too much for some...

Hi RRozanski,
To meet your own requirement, you can firstly change the ConfigurationFile.ini file which is generated by SQL Server setup wizard. Then users can install SQL Server with the new ConfigurationFile.ini file via installer wizard as follows.
Go to SQL Server Installation Center and click on the Advanced page. Click on Install based on configuration file, specify the location of the ConfigurationFile.ini file and the SQL Server setup.exe location. You can find setup.exe at the root level of the
SQL Server installation media.
Like a normal installation you can see all the screens with the prefilled information and this gives you the advantage to review or make changes if needed.

  • Pre-Configure QT 7 Installation for only specific file types

Is there an 'ini' or similar configuration file or command line option set I can use to pre-configure QT7 to only associate with specific file types?
I want to leave the associations for Media Player intact and have QT handle only MOV and other Apple-specific file types.

    Basic answer. No.
You set file associations after the install of QuickTime.
Most of it's adjustments and options are found in its Control Panel. Here you can set associations for MIME types that control the browser plug-in.
Each user can set their own values.

  • System Center 2012 R2 install: SQL server Data file and log file

This might be a dumb question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.
I'm installing a new instance of  System Center 2012 R2 on a new server, I'm stuck on the SQL Server data file section.  Everytime I put in a path, it says that tne path does not exist.  I'm I supposed to be creating some sort of SQL Server
data file and log file before this installation, I didn't get this prompt when installing System Center 2012 SP1 or hen I upgraded from System Center 2012 SP1 to System Center 2012 R2
My SQL is on a different server
    Thank you in advanced

    Have you reviewed the setup.log?
On a side note, why would you put the database file on the same drive as the OS? That defeats the whole purpose of having a remote SQL Server. Why use a remote SQL Server in the first place.

  • Pre-configured MI Client

    Hi MI guys,
is it possible to create a pre-configured MI client for deployment?
    Question 1:
I want to set the right servers and some other configuration for the standard MI client so that the users don't have to enter something during installation?
    Question 2:
What about using a deployment software like enteo Netinstall for installing a basic MI client? My thoughts are, I install and configure a MI client without synchronizing and this will be deployed via Netinstall on the client device (without installation routine of MI client).
    Thank you and regards,
    Florian

    Hi Florian,
The short answer to both of those questions is "yes".
In our environment we used "Wise for Windows" utility to install SAP MI client with required parameters (IP address, SAP system ID, etc.), and then compile new .MSI package with pre-setup parameters.
And yes, we are able now to install it automatically now for our clients via Script Logic. It uses MSIEXEC on the background with "/quiet" option enabled and because of pre-configured settings, no input from end user is required during install process.
I think it should work properly with the other deployment tools, as they uses the similar logic.
      Hope this answers your question.
    Best regards,
    Laziz

  • Pre-Configured Cisco VPN Client install

Im looking at creating a pre-configured install for the 4.8 client. This normally involves editing cab file contents?? I've been unable to locate a 'how 2' guide for this, does anyone have any ideas, has anyone tried this before, can it be done???

    Have located this:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/products_configuration_example09186a008022f999.shtml
but im looking to add security credentials (group and PSK) to the install, can i just swap the configured files within the MSI??

  • Windows AAMEE-created installer files install, then uninstall all products

I am trying to use AAMEE 3.1 to create CS6 installer files that will be used in creating a Windows 7 image.  Every version of the installer file that I have tried does not work. In every case, the product(s) is installed and then subsequently uninstalled. I have seen this in the log file and also in watching the target directories during the install process. The directory structure gets created and then deleted. I used the Mac version of AAMEE to create files for Mac deployment and it worked flawlessly. With the Windows version, I have tried (in no particular order):
    1. creating installer files using the Design and Web Premium Suite media (complete package, as well as individual apps)
    2. creating installer files from individual application media for each product
    3. creating installer files that are supposed to ignore conflicts and others that are not
    4. creating installer files with and without updates included
    5. uninstalling every piece of previously installed Adobe software off the target machine before attempting to run the installer files
    6. running the Adobe cleaner utility before attempting to run the installer files
    7. uninstalling every piece of previously installed Adobe software off the target machine first AND running the Adobe cleaner utility before attempting to run the installer files
    8. Running the .msi file from the command line
    9. Running the .msi file by right-clicking and choosing install
    10. Running the .msi file by double-clicking
    11. Running the .msi logged in as both a network admin user and local admin user
    12. a host of other things that I can't remember now
I've even tried using Adobe's log analyzer. It found no issues.  I've already wasted a week plus trying to make this work. Can anyone offer a solution that works? Below is one of many logs files I have. Most seem to indicate that a needed file is in use by another process, but I can't seem to find the culprit.

    Vincent,
Thanks for the reply. Still I am not clear on how to use the STM tools in my scenario. I had issues with the domain installation with distributed in a cluster. Working with SAP and got a reply today saying that SAPINST will be modified.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with SP2: 'SQLEXPRESS'-instance installation fails while any other instance name installation succeeds.

We supply our software package that also includes the unattended installation (with /QS and so on) of SQL Server R2 Express (with SP2).
The setup works good in about 99.9% cases, but one customer complained that after the "successful SQL Sever installation (at least, it looked so!) he could not open the supplied database getting some strange error messages...
After some months of trial-n-error attempts we are now able to reproduce the problems this custumer had. But we cannot find the reason of the problem.
So the test computer is a virtual machine with Windows 7 + sp1 32-bit.
Among the programs/tools installed on this machine there were (in the following order):
SQL Server 2008 Express - the default SQLEXPRESS instance
    SSMS
    VS 2010 Pro (German)
    SQL Server 2008 Express R2 (with SP 1 or SP2 - ?) - the default SQLEXPRESS instance
Then some of them were uninstalled in the following order:
    SQL Server 2008 Express
    SSMS
    SQL Server 2008 Express R2
Now we tried to install (in normal mode with UI) the SQL Server 2008 Express R2 with SP2.
When we chose the default SQLEXPRESS instance - it failed with the following info:
Configuration status: Failed: see details below

When we chose some other instance name then the installation has completed successfully.
    So the questions are:
What could be the reason of the problem (and only for SQLEXPRESS instance that was earlier installed and then uninstalled)? I will provide the complete Detail.txt file if needed.
How could we check (if we could) the conditions so some name would be allowed as an instance name for SQL Server installer to success?
    With the best regards,
    Victor
    Victor Nijegorodov

    Thank you Lydia!
Unfortunately the simple check the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL does /did not work in our case since there is no any instance
    name there,
However there seem to be some "rudiments" under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and/or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
So I will now try to check the subkeys of these two keys as it was mentioned by Xiao-Min Tan.
    Best regards,

  • [Desktop] Pre-configured installs

Any suggestions on how to create pre-configured installers of the same base app? Here's an example of what I mean:
App: This base app connects to a configurable server domain. You could install and use this app just fine.
App for ClientX - This app should connect to serverX, and I want to pre-configure it to do so. It may also have custom configured branding for ClientX.
App for ClientY - This app should connect to serverY, etc.
So I want to be able to give ClientX an installer (or install link) that installs the App pre-configured to connect to their serverX, and I want to give ClientY an installer that connects to their serverY, but I want both to be the same application, built from the same codebase, with the same appID and certificate, and receive the same updates, etc.
I've considered using compile constants to create different AIR app versions with populated strings, which I think would work though a bit clunky, but would result in different versions of the app, when what I really want is to have the SAME version configured differently.
What I am currently doing is making a config file that can be shared, so the main app is installed then the client opens the config file with the app (file association makes this relatively easy, but still very manual feeling.) I would essentially like to automate this, so the end user only needs to run the installer.
The next step would be automating this process, so that when ClientZ purchases the app it uses ClientZ's information to provide an installer configured for ClientZ without manual human intervention. You know, for when my app inevitably gets famous and makes me rich.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks all!
    -Aaron

Well I'm not quite sure this fits your scenario but maybe (assuming your clients install your app from a website)...
You can use the swf (badge) method of installing AIR apps through the browser: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7e15. html
This would give you the ability to pass in arguments into the install process. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118676a5d46-8000. html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7e19
Basically you set your air app to "<allowBrowserInvocation>true</allowBrowserInvocation>" and add a listener for the BrowserInvokeEvent(not InvokeEvent)
Do what you want with the parameters (maybe save to a flash shared object) to remember who it was.
Then for distribution, provide a client only page, that passes flash vars into the badge swf, which passes them to the app for install.
I recently used this method in this way. I'm building a video conference app that can send invitations via a URL (videoapp.com?id=abcdefghijklnop).. On that page I have the badge (swf) that recieves that invitation through flash vars. The badge does the install of the AIR app and passes the invitation once it runs.
Note: I had to modify the default badge.swf to include my additional flash vars.
Other than this, I dont know of any way to add arguments to just a regular passed around .air file.

  • Failsafe method to create NetInstall image of pre-configured MacOSX

    Hi All
I am trying to create NetInstall image of a pre-configured MacOSX install(mid-2011 mac mini) in this case.  Here is my workflow:
    1.  Setup base OSX Mountain lion
    2.  Do all updates and configure System Preferences and Finder Preferences as desired
    3.  Install all desired software to be packaged with the system
    4.  Boot into target mode and then use a second mac mini running Casper Composer to create a .dmg of the OS.
    5.  Copy the finished .dmg to ML Server
    6.  Try to use System Image utility to create a NetInstall image that other mac minis can then use as base install
I havent had any success so far creating a valid .nbi folder I can use(and that works) for re-deployment unless I use Casper Admin and Casper Imaging to manage this.  The reason I am trying to get away from using them is that the differnece between buying a $70 Casper Composer(or using the free Disk Utility) and buying the full Casper Suite is considerable.  Also, my understanding of System Image Utility is that:
    1. It should be possible to build a customised image of OSX from base with packages and coonfiguration added but it doesnt seem to work
    2. NetInstall is the only viable option for what we want to do as NetBoot presumes you will boot off the image each time you start up(which is not what we want - we want the ability to clone systems and from bare metal if necessary) and NetRestore flatly doesnt seem to work from .dmgs.
Here is what I have found:
    a) I can create NetInstall images from a mounted downloaded Apple-provided OSX Installer that work but as soon as I put customisations in them, the customisations fail.
    b) By default NetInstall is greyed out when you mount the dmg and use it as a source in System image utility.  Suggestions online are to change the Source to use a New variable and then point it back at the same location.  NetInstall is then available.  If you try to create a .nbi from this, you get an error saying that there isnt enough space on the target drive - the uncompressed dmg is about 7GB max and there is a spare 60-70Gb free on the drive I am trying to create the image on.
    c) I have tried manually creating the .nbi folder but the instructions I found at http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21133 for doing this are outdated as they apply to ppc firmware and although I suspect the technique will still work, I cant work out which elements of the i386 folder I need to retain/move.  Copying the i386 folder from another working Netinstall folder doesnt help.
    d) I found some links suggesting that NetInstall only worked when the OSX versions were identical so I tried to run the System Image Utility on the Mac where the dmg was created.  Here I get two errors:
         i) If I just run the NetInstall using the default source, it errors saying an unknown error has occurred and get the following in the log:
    Workflow Started (2013-08-21 11:39:45 +0100)

    An unknown error has occurred.
    Image creation process finished...
    Stopping image creation.
    Image creation failed.
ii) If I change the source to the .dmg file and unmount it quickly to avoid any file locks, the installer goes further and seems to almost finish but then gives the following error(just appending the final bits):
    + echo 'Detaching disk image'

    + exit 1
    Script is done.
    Bridge exited with status 256
Failed to create image from restore source.
    An unknown error has occurred.
    An unknown error has occurred.
    Image creation process finished...
    Stopping image creation.
    Image creation failed.
Anyone have any idea how I can get around these issues?

First, let's define the various image types...
    NetInstall:
A network based image which, when booted into, presents the user with a Mac OS installer. Functionality is effectively the same as running the Install Mac OS X application locally on a machine.
    NetRestore:
A network based image which, when booted into, uses Apple Software Restore to replace the contents of a volume with a previously imaged volume.
    NetBoot:
A network based image which, when booted into, acts just like a locally booted hard drive, except no changes are written to the disk. Each time the client boots into the NetBoot volume, the system is "reset" to the original state.
As defined by your workflow, you are trying to create NetRestore images.
As piperspace has noted, you need to start with the latest OS Install application. Starting with an older OS which has been updated to the latest will not work.
Creating NetRestore images from other disk images doesn't work because you need to have the Recovery Partition available. As both chicster and piperspace have noted, the way to do this is to image the volume directly.
Many preferences are "ByHost", which means that they are keyed to the UUID of the machine they are set on. To make those settings transfer to the new machines, you may need to use the "Apply System Configuration Settings" action and check the "Change ByHost preferences to match..." option.

  • Creating windows cluster after Oracle single instance installation

    Hi,
I have installed and created Oracle 11g R1 single instance server. The database also created on the server. Microsoft windows 2003 enterprise was not cluster during the said installation.
Now, the requirement has changed and as per new architecture, we want to create microsoft cluster having 2 nodes in it.
We want to move the current database instance data files on node 1 of the new cluster.
My Q's is, what will be effect of the current architecture. Also, how we can do it?
    THanks in advance.

  • Multiple SQL instance's in Web Platform installer

    Hi Team,
Why it is not possible to install multiple instance's in Microsoft Web Platform Installer?
Or any options to customize the SQL Instance name during the installation through Web platform installer?
    Kind Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
Microsoft Web Platform Installer runs a basic default installation, when you install SQL Server through Web Platform Installer, it uses default configuration values in installing process , including using the default instance name ’SQLExpress’. If you want
to change the SQL Server instance name or install additional SQL Server instances on your computer, you will need to perform a custom installation, then you can obtain SQL Server Express from the
Microsoft Download Center. For more details, please review this blog:
How should I Install SQL Server 2008.
In addition, if you have other questions about Web Platform Installer. I suggest you post the question in the Web Platform Installer forums at
http://forums.iis.net/1155.aspx/1?Web+Platform+Installer . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • [Win XP Development] Configure Classic Instance hanging on "Create Domain"

I've installed wls 10.3.5 on a Windows XP SP 3 platform. It's up and running.
I used the install-- do not configure option for Forms/Reports 11.1.2.
Now, I'm trying to configure this Windows machine for development.
I've shortened all the paths.... e.g. c:\Oracle\Middle and c:\Java and using c:\temp for temporary directories to avoid the pesky tilde issues.
I have 3GB of RAM to work with. I've even tried to make the task easier by just configuring Forms instead of both Forms and Reports.
I've even configured a Windows loopback connection and rebooted the machine, and deinstalled Forms and WLS and re-installed to use the loopback address.
I used to get crashes, now I get hanging that times out after a few hours if I let it go on.
Any breakthrough tips or suggestions? Oracle Support has an SR open on this for 3 weeks, but they are swamped and stumped.
Edited by: steve_newguy on Feb 23, 2012 1:29 PM. Corrected type of installation. Meant to say development instead of deployment option.

Is there a particular reason you want to do the Deployment config on your XP machine? Windows XP cannot be used for remote access or multi-user access. On XP your only option is single user, local access only. Basically for local designtime only. So the only thing you really gain by doing the Deploy option is an opportunity to become familiar with it. Also, although it doesn't have anything to do with your current problem, 3gig isn't going to be enough to do a Deploy install and expect to not pull your hair out while waiting for the hourglass to stop spinning each time you do something. Don't get me wrong... it will run, but very sloooowly.
Ok, on to your problem. In most cases, a hang during the config part of the install suggests a problem starting a process, usually opmn. You were on the right track when you said you installed the loop back adapter. If you look closely at the install and config logs, you likely will see that opmn was unable to start. If this is the case, I would bet my money on the net configuration. Just installing the loopback adapter is only part 1 of the steps needed. Also, this is ONLY needed if the machine is using DHCP. Do not do this if it uses a static address.
If you have an opportunity to start from scratch I would recommend it. Here is my suggestion, starting with cleanup:
    1. Stop all running services and processes related to this Oracle installation. That includes WLS, Node Manager, OPMN (Windows Service), etc
    2. If possible, use the Shortcut created to perform an uninstallation of FMw
    3. In Add/Remove Programs, uninstall WLS
    4. In the system environment variable settings, remove ALL references to FMw or WLS. Look closely at PATH in particular. (My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables)
    5. This one is important. You need to remove the Windows Service created for OPMN related to this installation. I would explain how to do this directly in the Registry, but that might get messy. I found the following which explains how to do it from the command line.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-windows-service-in-vista-or-xp/
    6. Once you have completed all these steps, reboot.
    7. After rebooting, delete any remaining directories related to FMw and WLS. Don't forget the C:\bea that may have been created.
    8. Assuming loopback has been installed, open the system's hosts file in a text editor. Found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    9. Add the loopback address and hostname. Be sure you have not created duplicates. In other words, ensure that the localhost address does not reference the hostname. Your entries should look something like this.
    127.0.0.1       localhost
    # Replace the address and hostname below with your loopback address and hostname
    192.168.0.10  yourMachineName10. Reboot
    11. Install WLS 10.3.5. At the end of the installation you will see a check box for running Quick Start. UNCHECK this box before exiting as there is no need to run this.
    12. Install FMw 11.1.2.0. You can choose either Install Only or Install and Config. There really is no reason to not choose Install and Config.
I do not recommend trying to have both a Deploy and Development installation type. If you need the Builders and would like to use the Deployment install type, simple be sure to select the Builders during the install process. The Builders are available in both installation types.

  • Can I create a copy of Pages '09 on iMac to use a installable file on MacBook?

So, I don't like the new versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote and have been using the '09 version.  I have been right clicking and opening files with the '09 version.  I tried setting '09 as default but that would not stick, default would slip back to '13.  So I had the idea of deleting the '13 version from applications so the default would revert to '09.  This worked for Numbers and Keynote but not with Pages.  When I tried to open Pages ('09 version, '13 is now deleted) it just hangs.  So I sent Pages '09 to trash as well and reinstall Pages from the App store.  After install only Pages '13 is available and not '09.  So now I have no version of '09 at all.  Strange how it works with the other iWork apps and not Pages.
I have Pages '09 and '13 on the iMac and am thinking I could create an installation file on the iMac that I could reinstall on the MacBook.    Can anyone instruct me how to do this?
Or give other suggests how I can find a source to download Pages '09 (I already searched the web)?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • How can I Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection with Server 2012?

I have a working RDS RemoteApp site and looking to test out the feature in Windows 7 Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\RemoteApp and Desktop Connections
I came across this link: Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection and I believe this is what I need to do first, but these instructions are for
    Server 2008, and I'm running 2012.
Any suggestions or tips on how I can begin testing this with Server 2012?

    Hi,
You can manually enter the path to the 2012 feed and it will connect and download the RemoteApps and Desktop connections.
If you need a sample .wcx file I have posted one here a couple of times.  If you want I will look for it and post a link.
    -TP
I tried adding my URL's below, these are sample links that work for me right now for when I log into the web page, but neither of these work.  And I'm not sure what I would need to do with or how to create a .wcx file.
When I type in my URL of: https://connect.mydomain.org/RDWeb, I get redirected to:
    https://connect.mydomain.org/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/Default.aspx
