Creating an iphone app

Hello all. I am new at all of this. I was wondering if there are any programmers who could assist in developing an idea that i have for the iphone. I am in Memphis, TN and not really sure where to begin. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all.

  • Creating an iPhone app? How?

I've been looking for weeks online for instructions on how to do this, but I can't find the information I'm looking for so I thought I'd post my question here.
I have an iPhone 3G and love it. I'm an author who would like to sell my ebook in the app store. I've downloaded the 3.0 SDK to my hard drive (but after installation, I can't find it) nor can I find any instructions on how to use it to create an app.
If anyone knows of an online resource you can recommend to help me, I'd gladly appreciate it. I'm completely in the dark as to how to do this and Apple's website isn't as helpful as I had hoped.

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for the info.
So basically I can't create any Iphone apps with what looks like the single edition I have.
I'm trying to create some apps for the Newstand so I've already created a Ipad version but was also hopeing to have a Iphone version too
It says you can create unlimited Ipad apps with the single edition but would that include multiple editions of a magazine rather than an update of an existing one?

  • Creating an iPhone app in DPS app builder?

I'm trying to create a test Iphone (Newstand) app before publishing but when I go to 'create app' in Indesign the DPS app builder loads up but doesn't give me the option to create an Iphone app, just a Ipad one?
I've noticed my version of the DPS app builder is on single edition but I have a developers licence now so I assumed that would have changed?
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    best regards

  • I have created an iPhone app using xCode and am now ready to publish it. Do I have to sign up to the $99/yr program in order to get a certificate?

I have created an iPhone app using xCode and am now ready to publish it. Do I have to sign up to the $99/yr program in order to get a certificate? I keep getting the error message: CodeSign Error: code signing is required...although the app tests fine on the simulator. Does this mean that I need to pay the $99 to create the app or do you only need to pay if you want it published on iTunes?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

  • So I wanna go about creating a iPhone app. What would be the easiest and cheapest route? Thanks everyone!

Download Xcode, learn Objective-C, practice endlessly, purchase Apple Dev status, then publish your work.

  • Trying to create first iPhone app, use Interface Builder or Xcode first?

I'm trying to create my first iPhone App, do I start with Interface Builder or Xcode first? And how do I link the two together?

It's not really that simple -- you'll be working with both. Interface Builder is used to design the GUI (graphical user interface, which consists of the windows and buttons and text fields and so forth, the parts of the application that your user interacts with). Xcode, on the other hand, is used to write the code that tells that GUI what it's supposed to do, and how to do it. So, to answer your question as best I can -- generally, I would imagine you would want to start by creating the basic form of your GUI in Interface Builder and then start coding where appropriate in Xcode, then you'll move back and forth between the two (Xcode and Interface Builder) as needed.
If you're new to programming and want to start with iPhone apps, I recommend picking up a book on the topic (Apress publishing has a book called "Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK" that is a good one, and don't forget to take advantage of Apple's iOS Dev Center, which has lots of good documentation on most any topic that will be helpful in supplementing the information in the book you buy -- click [here|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action] to go there).
Keep in mind, however, that trying to learn to program iPhone apps will be difficult (to say the least) if you don't already know Objective-C, and the Apress book I recommended above will not be easy to follow without understanding Objective-C first. Objective-C an object-oriented extension of C, and it is the programming language that is used to develop iOS apps (apps for the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad). I would definitely recommend learning Objective-C on the Mac before jumping in to iPhone development in specific. Apress has another book called "Learn Objective-C on the Mac" that I would recommend for this.
Furthermore, since Objective-C is an extension of C, you won't have an easy time learning it without a prior understanding of the C programming language. Again, Apress has a book for this, called "Learn C on the Mac."
Put simply, learning to program for the iPhone is not something that comes overnight -- it's a step-by-step process that takes patience, and you have to be willing to go through these steps if you want to learn to program properly for the iPhone.
Step 1 -- learn the C programming language
Step 2 -- learn the Objective-C programming language
Step 3 -- apply your knowledge to developing for iOS (iPhone's operating system) with the Cocoa Touch framework
Anyways, that's just my advice -- I definitely recommend taking the time to do it right and not jumping straight into the deep end, but in the end only you know what works best for you. Also, like I said, I definitely think investing in a book on the subject is worth the time and money, so let me know if you want any other recommendations for books beyond the ones listed above.
Hope this was helpful to you, and best of luck with your journey toward programming for iOS.

  • Is an iPhone app the best choice for our project?

    Dear All,
We are developing a travel tour idea for different locations within the US.  Tour content can include video, audio, images and text, as well as maps and locations.  We want to make our tours "in-depth" so that people can spend good quality time traveling a short distance and exploring "in-depth" rather than travelling long distances and giving only casual interest to what they see.
I'm new to developing apps for the iPhone and am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 soon to be updated to CS6.
I'm wondering if an app for iPhone and other related media like Android is really the way to go because of the limited content and screen size available.  I can envision our tours being utilized in many other formats, including iPad, Interactive PDF, as travel e-books or through an interactive website.  Our goal is to sell our apps, not give our material away for free. PDF would be my preferred format, but I know that PDF is easily transferred for free among users and would probably not give us much profit.
Any thoughts out there on what the best format for our project might be, or should it include ALL of the above formats? App creation for the iPhone is a rather complicated process, so that's why I'm wondering if after all of the work that you have to put in to create an iPhone app, if that is ultimately my best choice.
I would appreciate any thoughts or advice, or any questions you might have.  I'm working on a Mac Pro with CS5.5 Master Collection soon to be updated to CS6

    hi,
It depends on your requirement. Base on my experience, VM or website all could meet your requirement. From your description, You could use azure website to host your php website (http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/web-sites-php-configure/).
And you could use website auto scale feature in the future. I suggest you could see their comparison (http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/choose-web-site-cloud-service-vm/
    Hope it helps.

  • Steps to create a flashlight app

I would like to create an Iphone app that includes a flashlight within it. Any help?

Not sure if your question is about DPS app creation. With DPS, you can use the Camera API to get access to the device camera and turn on/off flash of the device, but I don't know of a way to directly get access to only the flash
See documentation: Getting started with the Camera API

  • IPhone App

I am using Edge and PhoneGap to create an iPhone app - how do I stop the content turning on an IPhone. I just want the content to vertical or horizontal not both.

Are you referring to when you change orientation from landscape to portrait? If so you would have to set media queries. in my case I show a full screen image telling the user to view in landscape mode for best viewing. This may be a solution or not depending on your requirements.

  • IPhone Apps...how do I get started?

I have been all over the web, as much as one can at least, in an effort to learn how to create an iPhone app. I post this here because I'm not sure where else to go. I'm an advanced windows xp user and an intermediate mac os x user. I will have my new 3G S tomorrow and I'm using my original iPhone at the moment. I am NOT a coder and I do NOT have programming experience. I've checked out myappbuilder.com and have been utterly let down by the garbage on that site. You can virtually only make eBooks. So, can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm an entrepreneur, fairly technically oriented, and have some time to work on this project.
Any recommendations? Am I out of my league?

Unfortunatly I can't really give you any real tips. I had years of experience developing before learning howe to program for the iPhone. The only advise I can give is read read read and read some more. Check out that book I linked above and follow along. It teaches you how to program for the Mac, but the concepts will be the same.
And don't get frustrated and give up. Learn how to solve problems. Learn how to think logically because that is what programming is. True and false logic. On and off.

  • Companion Website iPhone App

    Hello Devs,
I am looking to create an iPhone app to track my newborn baby; feedings, sleeping, and diaper changes. I would like to also create a companion website/backend "Master" DB and keep the iphone app in sync with the DB. My background is in asp.net programming so assuming I have the website and DB up and running would the best way to go about this just be to expose a syncing web service and just send XML or JSON back and forth from the iphone app? Searching the forums seems to have lots of similar cases which make me think this is correct but I am just trying to verify.
    Any input would be spectacular
    Thanks
    Tom

    Best way what?
Best way according to unlimited resources?
Best way if someone writes the code for you?
Best way if time is limited but skills are not?
Best way for you? How would anyone know?
An open ended question usually gets an open ended answer. Can't read your mind, so either be specific and technical or....not.
If you think everyone here has asp experience just like you, you're making an assumption. Some have more, most have less. If you think we can read your mind and can focus straight in on what works best just for you, you're making an assumption. This isn't quilting.
If you think you can ask a question and go straight for the gold, I want some of what you're breathing
Knock back a dozen or so prototypes on your own time and you'll be in a great position to know. Asking what is, means you'll be back asking how to do what is...that means you're just asking how to.
It is the best way if you want to take advantage of currently supported docs and APIs that devs can access....that's where you should be focused.

  • AS3 to develop a iPhone app

Does anyone think this will ever be possible?  Is anyone working on something that would make this possible?  Is Adobe?  Would anyone else besides me like to use AS3 to create an iPhone app?

i'd love to but i'm learning objective-c right now because i have a client that wants me to build some iphone apps.   it seems unlikely that apple would do anything to facilitate this.  they like controlling every aspect of their products.
