Creating Empty Folders in Build Specification

I'm trying to create a build specification that creates sub folders with data required by the application.  This works out ok, but I also want to create empty folders the the app will use for data output.  I can't get the build to createa folder unless there is a file in it.  Is there a way to do this?
TIA,
Bill F

Bill,
I have tried the installation and it will not create a folder unless there is something in it.  Here we have two options.
You can create a dummy file and place it in the "empty" directory.  This will make it non-empty and force its creation
You can create the directory in LabVIEW.  This can be accomplished by following this KnowledgeBase article:
Programmatically Searching For And Creating A New Directory Using LabVIEW

  • Opening Build Specification - Error 7 occurred at Get LV Class Default Value.vi

    I recently ported my project to a new PC. Everything seems to run fine uncompiled, and I am able to build an executable without issue. However, my build specification shows up in the project explorer with question mark next to it. When I try to build again or edit the properties I get a popup with the information below:
    Error 7 occurred at Get LV Class Default Value.vi
    Possible reason(s):
    LabVIEW: File not found. The file might be in a different location or deleted. Use the command prompt or the file explorer to verify that the path is correct.

    AB_Item_OnDoProperties.vi

    LabVIEW attempted to load the class at this path:

    I've seen messages from people getting the same error when trying to run a compiled executable, but mine actually runs fine. I am just unable to open the build specification to rebuild or edit its properties.

    This application is for a Windows machine, and I am not using the Report Generation Toolkit. However, I shut down my computer last night and when I booted it up this morning my Build Specification now opens fine and I am able to edit it. My only thought as to why it occured in the first place is that I had added several files to user.lib and instr.lib and restarted LabVIEW, but it appears that it required my computer to be restarted as well.

  • Shared Variable Deployment not accessible in Build Specification

    Hi everyone,
    I have a large project developed in LV 8.6.1 from which I executed numerous applications. I converted the project in LV 11 sp1f1, everything works well in code, everything is saved.
    I wanted to build executable without cod change for LV 11 here is what I found:
    Build the executable with Build Specifications inherited from LV 8.6 for which I checked on Use Labview 8.x file layout in Advanced. My application programmatically deploys all internal shared variables and when I wanted to access the Shared Variable Deployment in project in Build Specification then labview locked and I have to kill LV. Other time I did not access the Shared Variable Deployment and I start building executable when it looks the build progressing similar as in LV8.6 and last step before popping the attached error all the saved files in the build location were deleted.
    I set up a build specification just for this LV 11. Again I wanted to access the Shared Variable Deployment and again labview is looping something from which I had to kill labview. I opened it again, I skipped the shared variable deployment line and I build the application. Because my application programmatically deploys shared variables I included in builder the lvlib where shared variables belong. The build files does not includes this time as output the file *.lvlib for which my inherited LV8.6 code programmatic deploys shared variables.
    My question is should I change the code (very large code) taking out the programmatic variables deployment and to relay on the build executable to do deploy them then what should I do with Shared Variable Deployment line in Build Specification which for my large application is not accessible or is any way to still use the shared variable as in LV8.6 but for which I need *.lvlib in build location.
    Another important issue: when I launched my application built as I showed in previous second case, first thing that I see is that my application is not able to save errors (I have a log file where I save different drivers or communication errors). Any idea why application even without shared variable deployed is not able to write a text file? I am administrator of my computer with all rights.
    Thank you,
    Virginia

    No, I am not able to close Labview because of the windows error with only one button to close application. The application is correct executed. Next time when I start this project it is asking me if I want o recover even if I accept to recover it looks what I had last time it does not save.
    For my application also I am building a VI without diagram built as source distribution for which I set in my builder this top vi and I excluded everything from the project because my application copies instances at the run time of this vi as many times as hardware modules I have in the system and also I have this vi included in my application (for the content of this vi). My vi contains interfaces for hardware configuration as well as drivers functions call for each hardware module I have to control in my application. Everything is good building this vi, but in less then one minute after the build is executed and build interface closes again I have the windows error which force me to close project. Next time when I open project I did not see the option to recover the project.
    In the mean time I received second message and I wonder if you refer to files names or to folder names or all together. I checked and the maximum size is 122 characters in the vi paths.
    Thank you,
    Virginia

  • Export-Mailbox for legal discovery remove empty folders

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm having a bit of an issue with running an export mailbox search for a legal discovery that we need to perform. Basically we need to find any messages sent from two specific addresses to anyone within our company and export them to a mailbox for our legal
    team to review. The problem that i'm running into is that the export-mailbox command copies the folder structure for each mailbox that it searches to the target mailbox. When the legal team attempts to open the mailbox its taking an extremely long
    time for the target mailbox to open.
    Is there any way to run the export-mailbox command and have it not copy the folder structure for users that have no messages related to the search ? I haven't been able to find anything about a command line option to not create empty folders so i'm assuming
    this isn't a built in feature. If not has anyone had to deal with this issue before, if so what solution did you use to delete the empty folders folders in the target mailbox ?
    We are running Exchange 2007 SP1

    Hi Ragharam,
    Thank you for the response. Unfortunately the command cannot be limited to just the inbox as i must search deleted items and any folders that the users created as well as the inbox. Pretty much i have to search every where for any existence of
    these messages.  I'm running a command that is similar to what you listed above and the export is working the problem is that we have roughly 5000 user mailboxes that we need to search. Since the export-mailbox command creates a folder for each
    user that has been searched in the target mailbox and that folder contains each users folder structures the resulting mailbox or PST file pretty much just hangs the Outlook client as soon as its opened.
    My hope is that there would be some way to only create folders for users that have matches to the search filter and not for the users that do not match or some way to delete the empty folders within the mailbox without having to open it.

  • Create Multiple Subfolders in Lightroom or Have Lightroom Pick Up Multiple Empty Folders

    I currently have Lightroom organize files into subfolders by date when importing photos. So, for example, when returning from a shoot today, all images will be imported into a subfolder called "2013-12-18", which Lightroom will automatically created if it does not exist.
    This is great.
    Some of the images in the shoot belong to a set that I want to keep separate from the others. For example, an HDR or focus-stacked or panorama set.
    What I do is create subfolders undernear the "2013-12-18" folder and manually move the sets into it. So I might end up with, for e.g.
      .../2013-12-18/
      .../2013-12/18/Set-01
      .../2013-12/18/Set-02
      .../2013-12/18/Set-03
      ... etc.
    What I would like to do, however, is to reduce the pain of manually need to create each of the subfolders. Right now, I have to right click the parent folder ("2013-12-18"), select "Create folder inside 2013-12-18", type in "set-01", and repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat. This is very inefficient and tedious.
    Now, I can easily write a Bash or Python script to automatically create as many subfolders as I need in the correct parent directory. But Lightroom does not show or recognize these empty subfolders until I go through the above process (i.e. pseudo-"create" the subfolders) OR go to "Library > New Folder" and ask Lightroom to add the new folder. I thought at first that the latter would be the solution (i.e., I could just go to "Library > New Folder" and add all the new, externally-created, empty subfolders. Unfortunately, this dialog only lets me add one folder at time.  Quelle douleur!!!
    Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? A plugin or somehow record an action? Or maybe change the way I import?
    Note that I do not mind actually moving the images belong to a set into each subfolder manually myself. In fact, I cannot imagine doing it any other way, as only I (and not Lightroom) can tell which images belong to a particular set. Yes, I know Lightroom can autostack by capture time, but that is not relevant here because (a) I am not stacking yet and (b) capture time between images in the same set can be highly variable. But I *would* like to automate or otherwise make more efficient the process of creating the subfolders or having Lightroom recognize my externally created empty subfolders.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Christoph and all,
           So if there can only be one Public Root folder, I have a question about expanding EDMS to incorporate more uses.  We have a small group of users now who use it and so they already have the EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER  document created with a certain doc type (FLD) which has some special rules coded with it that the lower level folders and documents inherit from it.   Now as part of our PLM project we are going to roll out EDMS to a broad audience who needs more general functionality which will come from an EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER of a different document type (FOL).  Is it possible to create this new pubic root folder and somehow move the existing one with its specialized doc property inheritance to a subfolder within the new public root folder?
    Thanks,

  • Create Measure Folders with Oracle Warehouse Builder

    Hello,
    Is there a possibility to create Measure folders (similar to what Analytic Workspace can do) but with Oracle Warehouse Builder?
    Thank you,
    Liviu Florean

    Hi Liviu
    Unfortunately not. OWB generates a measure folder for the entire cube by default for deployment to AW. If you are keen, you could create an expert to generate/deploy the measure folder (define a UDO for a measure folder and an expert to generate the code for AWXML).

  • Archive creates empty MAC OSX folders and second folder with documents...

    I have been sending .zip documents to customers for some time. I archive using the ctrl + click method (choosing CREATE ARCHIVE...)
    Customers have been saying that they can't find the files, that the folders are empty. I didn't know what they were talking about...until I archived a folder, transfered it to a LACIE external hard drive on the Ethernet network, decompressed it and saw what they were talking about! What is that MAC OSX folder? Why does CREATE ARCHIVE create 2 folders with the document in one of them? I frankly don't get it. The external drive we have is a LaCie Mini 250 MB formatted in ext 3 (Linux?) before it was formatted HFS+ but it created problems and the LaCie technicians suggested that we format the disk in Ext 3 (Ext 3, 13 35, I don't quite remember). The disk was originally formatted in Fat32 (Windows) which didn't work (filenames, unable to copy or delete, etc).
    Is CREATE ARCHIVE the problem? or is it network disks which are PC disks or PC-originally-intended disks?

    Hi, Louis. Welcome to the Discussions.
    See my post here and the related comments concerning Create Archive in that topic. I believe that will help you understand what's happening.

  • Applescript for creating job folders

    having trouble with an applescript. I'm trying to create an applescript that will create a job folder for me with job number and job name in which I can include folders and subfolders.
    I found this script by searching google and it's pretty much what I need (thank you to who ever might have created it). I altered the folder names to what I need, and it seems to work for the most part but throws an error at the end that says : Finder got an error: Can't make "drive:path" into type item
    however it still makes everything i need. I would just like to get rid of the error.
    the script editor highlights the line of text that's having issues for me, but since i barely knew what I was doing in the first place I don't know how or what to change.
    if someone could help me that would be great. here is the code.
    set thepath to {"drive:path"}
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set incomingDate to (current date)
    set numYear to year of incomingDate as number
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of (numYear as string)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    set newsublist to {{"Builds", {"versions"}}, {"Links"}, {"Fonts"}, {"Proofs"}}
    tell application "Finder"
    set baseFolder to make new folder with properties {name:JobNumName}
    repeat with i from 1 to count newsublist
    try
    set {tier2, t2Subs} to {item 1, item 2's items} of item i of newsublist
    set tier2Folder to make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(tier2)}
    repeat with tier3 in t2Subs
    make new folder at tier2Folder with properties {name:(tier3)}
    end repeat
    on error
    make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(item 1 of item i of newsublist)}
    end try
    end repeat
    activate
    open thepath
    end tell

    There are a few differences with Leopard that still get me from time to time. Tiger's AppleScript doesn't like path to desktop, so instead use the statement:
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    The other thing I hadn't noticed before is if there is an error, the script just stops instead of throwing up a dialog. If you are doing something like using an illegal file name or trying to create a folder in a location that you don't have permissions, then unless the MakeFolderStructure statement is in a try statement it will fail silently. Adding an error display will at least tell you if there is an error, so a script that works in Tiger (as well as Leopard) is:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    -- make a folder structure at the currently selected Finder item
    tell application "Finder" to try -- get the current selection
    set ThePath to the first item of (get selection)
    if the last character of (ThePath as text) is not ":" then -- a file
    set ThePath to the container of ThePath
    end if
    on error -- default to the desktop
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    end try
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of ((current date)'s year as text)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    try
    MakeFolderStructure out of {JobNumName, {"Builds", {"versions"}, "Links", "Fonts", "Proofs"}} at ThePath
    on error ErrorMessage number ErrorNumber -- oops
    activate me
    display alert "Error " & ErrorNumber message ErrorMessage
    end try
    to MakeFolderStructure out of SomeItem at SomeFolder
    make the folder structure defined in SomeItem at SomeFolder
    SomeList defines the structure:
    nested list items create folders in the previous text item - {"A", {"B", {"C"}}} = /A/B/C
    empty text items will create untitled folders
    parameters - SomeItem [mixed]: the folder structure
    SomeFolder [alias]: the destination folder
    returns nothing
    set ParentFolder to SomeFolder
    if class of SomeItem is list then
    repeat with AnItem in SomeItem
    if class of AnItem is list then -- add subfolder(s)
    MakeFolderStructure out of AnItem at SomeFolder
    else -- add a new child folder at the current parent
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at ParentFolder with properties {name:AnItem}
    set SomeFolder to the result as alias
    end if
    end repeat
    else -- add a new (potential) parent folder
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at SomeFolder with properties {name:AnItem}
    set ParentFolder to the result as alias

  • How can we add empty folders in installers?

    Hi All,
    I need some help with with LV installers. I have built an built an installer for an application that I am using. But along with the application I would like to create an empty folder as well. I am creating this folder in the "Destinations" option in the installer properties, but when I build and install the application, that particular folder is not there. Am I missing something here?
    Also, I am new to this forum and not sure if this has been posted earlier. I apologize if it has been posted earlier.
    Thank you!

    You can configure your installer to run an executable after installation.
    Create a small batch file or EXE that creates the empty folders.

  • PackageMaker doesn't include empty folders

    I am trying to create a package that contains empty folders. Items may be installed into these folders from another program. All items are listed when I authenticate to archive the Package_contents on building. Most of the empty folders are not in the final package.
    My example Package_contents contains where all icm and firmware directories are empty:
    /usr/local/share/foo2/
    /usr/local/share/foo2/icm/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/file1
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/file2
    /usr/local/share/foo3/icm/
    /usr/local/share/foo4/
    /usr/local/share/foo4/firmware/
    /usr/local/share/foo4/icm/
    The package as built by PackageMaker v2.1.1(123) in OS X 10.4.9 contains:
    /usr/local/share/foo2/
    /usr/local/share/foo2/icm/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/file1
    /usr/local/share/foo3/crd/file2
    /usr/local/share/foo4/
    Is there some way to get all the empty directories included in the build?
    Matt
    Mac Mini G4; B&W G3/300

    I tried putting some dummy files in the empty
    folders. They got included in the package as I
    would
    have expected. I think this is a bit messy.
    True. It is a bit messy but you can always include
    some code in your application which deletes the dummy
    files the first time it runs... or perhaps build the
    delete into the post flight script.
    It would probably be less messy and less confusing to create the package with the dummy or placeholder files and delete them in the postflight. It would seem to make more sense and "be more honest" to list "placeholder" files of zero bits in the Archive.bom than to create extra directories in the postflight.
    As I mentioned in my previous response, PackageMaker 1.2 running in OS X 10.3.9 builds the package as I want, so I won't have to deal with the issue.

  • Centro hotsync with Outlook creates multiple folders in Notes

    Greetings,
    This is my first post and I need help!
    I just got a Sprint Centro two weeks ago and hotsync with Outlook.  Every time I hotsync, the process creates multiple empty 'Notes' folders named after the sync profile.  (You may know that in Outlook they are called Notes and in the Palm OS they are called Memos.)  The notes I have are actually synced fine.  However, extra four or five empty folders are created as well.  Therefore, potentially I could have hundreds of them after a dozen or so syncs.
    - I am using Palm Desktop 6.2
    - I used a Tungsten E2 before and all was OK
    - I have XP Pro
    - The Palm phone support suggested a hard reset and a new sync profile.  Same problem.
    - Support also suggested a new Outlook profile.  Don't want to do that as I can't afford to lose any data and settings!  Besides, their suggestion did not work and left me with a lot of work restoring data to phone.
    There has to be a solution other than giving the Centro up for a BB.  I would appreciate any help.  I must say the Palm phone support has been atrocious!
    Thank you.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    I don't know what causes this issue but I know how to solve it - ot at least work around it.
    First of all you need to backup the existing data that you have within Outlook Contacts etc. You can do this easily by creating a subfolder under Contacts (e.g. called Backup) and just MOVING everything from the parent folder into the backup folder.
    Then do another sync with the mobile and see what items pop up in Contacts. From here make sure you EDIT that contact with the additional data and save it. Once you do this, you won't get duplicates.
    For some reason the Synchronise app will "key" to a particular user "record" (to use database parlance) leaving the original Outlook contact alone (if it's any consolation it happens on Blackberries too) - and this is the only way I know of which fixes it without buying 3rd party applications.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Edward

  • How can I import bookmark HTML records directly into pre-defined (but empty) Folders?

    Firefox is my default browser. I am in the process of replacing an old computer with a new one. I've converted into HTML files the Bookmark content of all of the Folders appearing within the Bookmarks section of Firefox on my old computer. I then uploaded this into the cloud, and downloaded it to my new computer. I've loaded Firefox afresh on the new computer. Now . . .
    Ideally, I would like to be able to import these saved/HTML bookmarks (now on my new computer) directly into the new Firefox, keeping the Folder structure maintained in saving them from the old computer; less ideally, but still acceptable, would be to simply re-create as empty Folders each Folder from the old computer's Firefox setup and then do a 'Select All' copy/paste from each of these Folders as saved in my downloaded HTML bookmarks into these initially empty Folders created in the new computer's Firefox Bookmarks section. Is either of these currently possible? In short, this is a quite distinct scenario from importing bookmarks from other browsers on the same computer.
    I have tried, but it seems that neither of these functions is currently viable. As common as replacing one computer with another is, I find this a pretty significant oversight which will require a very time consuming conversion process if such functions are not currently available; i.e., I'll have to open each saved HTML Folder and manually activate each individual html bookmark, go to that website, and individually re-bookmark each of these one by one within the Bookmarks section of Firefox on my new computer as if I were bookmarking this site for the very first time. With hundreds and hundreds of bookmarks segregated into about 30 Folders, I think you can see what a productivity drain this will be.
    While there appear to be some quite interesting and potentially useful FireFox Addons - e.g., Categorize - none of these seems to address/resolve this problem. Can you advise? Thank you.

    To start out with, Firefox hasn't used the HTML format for storing bookmarks for a few years now; you can still import and export bookmarks in HTML format, as you can with just about any other browser out there as an interchange format. Firefox 3.0+ versions use an SQLite database for storing bookmarks and browsing history in the place.sqlite file. Firefox 3.0+ versions do automatic backups of your bookmarks in the JSON format; that file includes "Tags" data but not the web site Favicon data. Restoring a backup from an old PC to the new PC is how Mozilla handles replacing an old computer - or you can "backup" the entire old Profile and transfer that data to the new PC manually. A user could also use Firefox Sync to "sync" their personal data onto the new PC. IMO, you're over-thinking this using dated information (talking about HTML files) without knowing about what options you currently have with Firefox and Mozilla.
    Is that a genuine Netscape-1 bookmarks.html file? ''Look at the first line of code in that HTML file to see.'' <br />
    Or is it a standard HTML file?
    If you have a genuine bookmarks.html file, you can '''Import''' that file thru Organize Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Import HTML... > From an HTML file.
    Doing it that way you will be appending the bookmarks & folders that are in the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder right now. The ordering of the folders and bookmarks in the "imported" file is identical, the "imported" data is added below the existing data. That said, the '''''Bookmarks Toolbar''''' folder and the '''''Unsorted Bookmarks''''' folder from the "imported" data will be in the Bookmarks Menu folder at the bottom; you'll have to move the bookmarks that are in that folder to their respective folders, above and below the Bookmarks Menu folder.

  • Creating .app folders in other operating systems?

    I'm working on a cross-platform game and am hoping to create an OS X port of it. I don't have access to a mac, and so am unable to use the xcode tool for creating .app folders. Are there any tools for creating .app folders on other operating systems? I'd prefer Linux, but can also use windows if required.
    Thanks
    Nathaniel

    Well, .app bundles are specific to Cocoa and Carbon applications... The closest way to make such applications is to use GNUStep (which is an open Cocoa) but it means to rebuild the whole app to make it work with Cocoa/GNUStep...
    However, application that are compatible with Mac OS X are not necessarily in .app bundles. Bundles are used for a specific purpose which gather files that the app should have really close, like its interface files (nib) that is used only with Cocoa or Carbon. If your app is neither Carbon nor Cocoa, there's no use in creating a .app bundle it doesn't even exist. And moreover, Xcode (or Project Builder on GNUStep) is the only app that creates .app bundles.
