Creating GUI component that includes other components

Hello, I need to create an UNIVERSAL FORM (panel) consisting of several textboxes and labels. These textboxes and labels will be defined in XML. I want it as a GUI JavaBean. It should be made from a panel with some layout and it should consist other components. Here are my questions:
1) What class to derive from? JPanel?
2) Well, when I override a GUI Swing component I must implement a paint method but this is a bit strange. I just want to set up the textboxes -- I do not need any special painting. A question appears -- is JavaBean technology good for this situation? Is there any better solution?

I mean why this doesn`t work:
public class Uniform extends JComponent implements
Serializable {
     private String xmlContent;
     private int type;
     private JPanel panel;
     public Uniform() {
          panel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(1,2));
          panel.add(new JTextField("A"));
          panel.add(new JTextField("B"));
     public void paint(Graphics g) {
          panel.paint(g);
}Is it a good solution? How would you solve the
problem?
Thanks for your ideas.If you mean by 'dont' work' that your text boxes and panel doesn't appear, then it's because you're missing this line in your constructor:
public Uniform() {
  this.add (panel, BorderLayout.CENTER);
}Regards,

  • Problem in BPEL with payload xsd that include other payload xsd.

    Hi,
    We have a payload xsd that includes other payload xsd. JDev does not complain when we validate or compile the BPEL project but when we try of create a variable of that type in JDev it fails. Any ideas?

    There are known limitations to XSDs with imports and includes.
    Look at metalink and log a SR.
    Oracle support ignores this, but with every SR the pressure is increased...

  • Outline path to create an outline that includes the rounded edge?

    In illustrator CS6 I have a line with a rounded endpoints. When I try to OUtLINE PATH - it will clip off the rounded edge -- as if I'm asking AI to outline a path with a non-rounded edge. How can I get outline path to create an outline that includes the rounded edge? Many thanks!

    Karen,
    It sounds like something that may require something from this list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Custom component composed of other components

    Hello.
    I have a form (long, but simple) that is reused a few times across my applicaition. It would be great if I could package it as a JSF component. But I see no obvious way to create an UIComponent composed of other UIComponents.
    Are UIComponents really meant to be written from scrach, each parsing it's own request parameters and outputting raw html? Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the quick reply, but I'm still stuck...
    How do I go about writing a composite custom
    component? Instanciating all sub components and
    delegating encoding and decoding to each? That's the road I try to take first.
    - Construct a SMALL test-bed application to develop your component.
    - consider implementing the naming container interface if you add components as children
    - consider acquiring "JSF in Action" from Kito Mann, it's the book with most samples for component building
    - announce "absences" to your family. It takes longer than you think beforehand ;-)
    - If your servlet-container starts up in less than 10 seconds it's better...
    I'm afraid to be asking too much, but does anyone
    know where can I find an example of this? I'm
    currently browsinng the MyFaces code, but so far
    whithout much luck....Well the myfaces code is the second best source after JSF in action and then there are a few tutorials on the net... time to surf to google and http://www.jsftutorials.net/
    hope this helps

  • Need help with adding form fields to PDF created in InDesign that includes links

    I created a collateral piece in InDesignCC that includes hyperlinks and bookmarks - I then used LiveCycle to add an image field and text field to the front cover so our sales folks can customize it before use - the sales people with Reader can't save it without the hyperlinks and bookmarks being lost. Anyone have an option on how to fix that?

    No.  Not at all.  I feel like I have clicked EVERYTHING.  Lol.  But obviously I have missed something.

  • Can I create a PDF that includes photos using Adobe Reader?

    Is it possible to create a PDF document that includes photographs using only Adobe Reader?
    Or do you have to pay yet more for Acrobat?

    Rachel, although Word is not specifically designed for the job you describe, it can be used for it. Once you have completed your document, you can export it to a PDF file directly from Word (File > Save as > PDF). I would suggest trying first with a single page containing text and photographs like those you'll be eventually using. If results are not as good as you would like, you can explore other methods, such as using a proper design program to produce your originals. And, whatever method you use, don't forget to keep the original files along with your PDFs, and backup copies of both.

  • Upgrade to Final Cut 10.0.7 destroyed my generators created in Motion that include drop zones. Anyone experienced the same problem ?

    In Motion 5 I created generators that included a drop zone. The objective it to bring them into Final Cut and insert into the drop zone a clip of the same duration.
    In FCX 10.0.6 I used to bring a clip to the time line and re size it to the exact duration of my generator. Then I bring the generator to the time line and selected the generator, click in the drop zone of the published parameters menu and select this clip I wanted to insert. The result was the generator using my clip and the clip playing during all the duration of the generator with the generator effect.
    Now, with 10.0.7 I can’t make that work. When I click in the clip I would like to import into the drop zone, the result is that there’s just a frozen image of the clip (in the same place I clicked with the mouse)
    Is this a known problem of 10.0.7. It used to work well in 10.0.6
    Thanks for your help !

    I can't see that the update would have any effect on custom generators as they are housed separately from FCP X.
    Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
    Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
    The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
    There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
    The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • Can I create a task that includes 2 C series modules?

    I am trying to create a single task that includes 2 NI-9425 C series modules but when I wire the physical channel constant "Mod3/port0, Mod4/port0" into the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi I receive error -200086 which states physical channel range syntax in the input string is invalid because multiple devices were listed in the string.  It is my understanding from LabView help that multidevice tasks are allowed.  Also according to this KB article http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/CF85114C6025C84C862571C000722DDA multi-device tasks are supported for S Series devices, C Series, and DSA devices, and according to this KB article http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/78E44565FD87E7D686257108007F94F8?OpenDocument I have formatted my physical channel constant correctly.
    Can someone please explain why I am getting this error when all indications are that this should be a simple thing to do?
    My C series modules are in slots 3 and 4 in a cDAQ-9188 chassis, I am currently running LabView 8.5.1, with Windows XP

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Eric,
    I'm afraid that you can't configure hardware timing with the NI 9425 in CompactDAQ. The NI 9425 data sheet explains: "The NI 9425 is a static digital module, so you can use it to perform software-timed or static operations only when installed in an NI CompactDAQ chassis."
    For AI, AO, and counters, daisy chaining multiple calls to DAQmx Create Channel is equivalent to specifying a list of physical channels, but for DIO it's different. A single DIO virtual channel can contain multiple physical channels (lines). It would be completely reasonable to assume that specifying a list of lines with "one channel for all lines" would cause DAQmx to put all of the lines in a single virtual channel, but due to how it's implemented in the DAQmx framework, this is not possible when the lines are on multiple devices. It would also be reasonable to assume that if DAQmx couldn't put all of the lines in a single virtual channel, then it would create one virtual channel per device, but that's also not how it's implemented--it returns the error that you received.
    Instead, here are two approaches to putting all 64 lines in one task. Either one should work.
    Approach A: Create a single task, containing two virtual channels (MyChan0 and MyChan1). MyChan0 contains cDAQ1Mod3/port0/line0:31 and MyChan1 contains cDAQ1Mod4/port0/line0:31. The Digital 2D Bool NChan 1Samp read VI returns a 2x32 array of Booleans. To flatten this into a 1D 64-element array, you need to use Reshape Array or some other method.
    The DAQmx Task >> Channels property is there to show that there are two virtual channels named MyChan0 and MyChan1. Also, I used a for-loop to show that you don't have to hardcode multiple calls to DAQmx Create Channel. The "one channel for all lines" constant is redundant because that is the default.
    Approach B: Create a single task, containing 64 virtual channels (MyChan0 through MyChan63). This uses the "one channel for each line" constant, which is not the default. MyChan0 contains cDAQ1Mod3/port0/line0, MyChan1 contains cDAQ1Mod3/port0/line1, etc. The Digital 1D Bool NChan 1Samp read VI returns a 1D 64-element array of Booleans. If you used the Digital 2D Bool NChan 1Samp VI instead, you would get a 64x1 array because there are 64 virtual channels containing 1 line each.

  • Ideas to display which component drives the other components in the canvas

    I have 4 components in my canvas and I would like to learn some ideas from gurus on what are the best ways to display which component drives (drills down)  the other components in the dashboard.  Any info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    There is no such rule on which component should drive other in Xcelsius. It all depends upon the data that you are using. Always a component with summarized data should drive a component with granular data. For eg: If you are showing Total sales in a country using Column chart and want to drilldown to the percentage of sales in each region of a particular country , you can use pie chart to show it. Here Column chart drives Pie chart and u can show this in other way also.
    Hope it helps!

  • Is it possible to create a component that takes two inputs?

    Hi Experts,
    Is it possible to create a custom JSF component that takes two input values and assigns them to a managed bean?
    For example, a component that displays two input boxes?
    The tag would look something like this:
    <my:component value1="#{bean.value1}" value2="#{bean.value2}" />I've tried, but I can't get the values to update the managed bean.
    I'm starting to doubt that it is possible, as their is only 1 setSubmittedValue method :(
    Thank you,
    Ristretto

    Hi Prosun Bondopadhyay  ,
                   Component controller is the base of a wda component. its can be considered as the base class. all the other views can be considered as the sub classes of component  controller. so without the base class there is no existence for sub class rt?
    like we can use all the methods and attributes of a component controller(main class) across all the view(sub class) and the viceversa is not possible.
    hence we cannot create a wda without component controller.

  • Create type outline that includes stroke?

    Hello. How do I create an outline out of type (as in Type>Create Outline) that includes the stroke? Can't find it anywhere.

    That's one possible solution. But you still have a two color print. If your publication is B/W (or one color only) and you want a more richer black - be assured that at the print shop they can control te amount of ink that's printed.
    In case of a B/W (one color) publication you coul'd also use a Spot colour, Pantone Coated or Uncoated (depends on the paper used) - as such a color has much better pigmentation it looks better when printed on paper than standard CMYK colors. The result is a better looking printed publication and you will save some money as you have only one color to print.
    Just select a Pantone swatch and you will have no problems with trapping.
    The same goes for full colour print - also in that case you will have a 5 color print (the four CMYK plates + one Spot color) but your solid background printed with the Spot color will be much better looking than when printed only in black.
    When using negativ small type on a solid background I usually use a Spot color (I prefere Pantone) and a sans-serif or a slightly bolder serif typeface. I avoid using typefaces like regular TimesNew Roman. You could try to find some type face that has a SemiBold or DemiBold font style.

  • Referencing component parameters from other components

    I have a training application that uses a variety of
    components, including a browser that, as a parameter, takes a movie
    clip instance and will move it around when the scroll bars and the
    browser are used. I also have transparent buttons that on
    mouse-over turn slightly opaque so the user can see very obviously
    that they're mousing over something. I also have popups that, as a
    parameter, take the button instance name, and comes up when the
    button is moused over. When the button is clicked, is passes a
    parameter to an isCorrect variable (true or false) that is used by
    the popup to determine what color to turn the text (green if
    isCorrect == true, red else). The popup then puts up some
    additional text, to steer the user right. The problem with this is
    that all the wrong answers usually say the same thing, and only to
    correct one says something different, and often there are well over
    50 popups per page, meaning each must be changed manually. And if,
    when reviewed, the text is determined to have to change, then it
    takes far too long to change it! So, as a solution, I put a
    parameter on my browser component called Popup Text with a variable
    name _browserPopupText. I need to be able to refrence it from the
    popup component. I am able to refrence the button currently because
    the instance name is entered as a parameter.
    By way of extra information, the popup instances are are
    placed inside of the movieClip that is moved around by the browser,
    so it isn't on the same layer. I've tried using
    this._parent._parent, which resolves properly (this being the
    button, this._parent refrencing the movieClip object,
    this._parent._parent being a relative way to say _root (since I
    have multiple _levels that need to move around on each other a
    lot), which resolves to the _level# that the clip and browser are
    on). however, I don't know how to refrence the browser without
    giving it an instance name, which I'd rather not force users to do
    (this training building app will be used by more-or-less computer
    illiterate people to build training Flash apps, and so I want to
    make it as uninvolved as possible).
    So, if there is a way to NOT have to give the browser an
    instance name and still refrence parameters in it from the popup, i
    would greatly appreciate hearing it.
    JA

    k. I found myself a work-around. In the browser component,
    during the init() function initiallizing the browser, i simply
    added the following line of code:
    _global.browserPopupText = _browserPopupText;
    This works just fine. Then, i just refrence the _global
    variable. Also, I moved the isCertify from the buttons to the
    browser, so that I don't have to change every button from
    "isCertify = false" to "isCertify = true". Now All these things
    that used to be in literally hundreds of components has been moved
    to a handful of them--just the browser. Anyway, there's my
    work-around. I'm still open for a better way to do it.

  • I have created several short (3-5 minute) movies using iMovie 10.0.6 and Yosemite.  I want to create one movie that includes these short movies that I can then either burn to a DVD or show in iMovie's Theater.  How can I do it?

    I have created several short (3-5 minute) movies using iMovie 10.0.6 and Yosemite.  I want to combine those short movies into one movie that I can loop and burn on a DVD or show in iMovie Theater.  How can I do it?  The movies are now shared to iTunes.

    Another easy way to fix this.
    What I've noticed is that upon upgrading your projects and events to work with iMovie 10, initially it will work... Until you quit iMovie and reopen it again. Any events with hashtags will show up without the star next to the iMovie event. SO, if you happen to read this, after upgrading to iMovie 10 from its predecessor, immediately change the event name to NOT include a hashtag/pound symbol.
    Otherwise, if it's too late, you can either do the above or this...
    Hold down option and click on iMovie. This will prompt you Locate, Create a New Library, Cancel this window, or Choose a different library. What you want to do is create a new library, call it whatever you want to, this will only be temporary. After the program opens, it should be a blank Library. Then go to File > Open Library > iMovie Library (your original library) and proceed to change the name of your events. Quit the program. Go into your Movies folder in Finder, delete the library you temporarily created, and your back in business.

  • Adding Component above all other components

    My initial problem is to put the panel (which is created as a result of a click on a button) above all components that have been added to the GBLTablePanel. I've written the following sample that demonstrates my problem
    package test;
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.GridBagConstraints;
    import java.awt.GridBagLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;

    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.JScrollPane;
    import javax.swing.JTable;
    import javax.swing.WindowConstants;
    import javax.swing.table.DefaultTableModel;
    public class GBLTablePanel extends JPanel {
        private final GridBagLayout layout;
        private final GridBagConstraints gbc;
        public GBLTablePanel() {
         layout = new GridBagLayout();
         gbc = new GridBagConstraints();
         setLayout(layout);
         JTable table = new JTable();
         table.setModel(new DefaultTableModel(new Object[][] {
              { "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa", 3, "a", null }, { "adasda", 10, "b", null },
              { "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa", 3, "a", null }, { "adasda", 10, "b", null },

              { "assssss", 55, "c", null }, { "asdafasfa", 44, "d", null } },
              new String[] { "Title 1", "Title 2", "Title 3", "Title 4" }));
         JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table);
         gbc.gridx = 0;

         gbc.weightx = 1.0;
         gbc.weighty = 1.0;
         layout.setConstraints(scrollPane, gbc);
         add(scrollPane);
         JButton showPanelBtn = new JButton(new AbstractAction("Show panel") {
             @Override
             public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              /* When this button is clicked I want that panel to appear on the top (above all components of the GBLTablePanel ) */
              JPanel panel = new JPanel();
              panel.add(new JLabel("This must be on the top of JTable"));
              panel.setSize(panel.getSize().width, 30);
              panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(panel.getPreferredSize().width, 30));
              layout.setConstraints(panel, gbc);
              gbc.gridy = 0;
              GBLTablePanel.this.add(panel, 0);
         gbc.gridwidth = GridBagConstraints.REMAINDER;
         gbc.gridy = 1;
         layout.setConstraints(scrollPane, gbc);
         add(showPanelBtn);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         JFrame f = new JFrame("Test");
         f.setDefaultCloseOperation(WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
         /* Construct table managed by GridBagLayout */
         GBLTablePanel panel = new GBLTablePanel();
         f.add(panel);
         f.pack();
         f.setVisible(true);
    }I hope the example is not too confusing, honestly I'm not sure what do I try next to fix my problem. The panel simply does not show up :(

    Here is an example that might help you with using GridBagLayout:
    package table;
    * TableInGridbaglayout.java
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class TableInGridbaglayout extends JFrame {
        private JButton btShowPanel;
        private JPanel panel;
        private JTable table;
        private boolean show;
        public TableInGridbaglayout() {
            super("TableInGridbaglayout");
            setDefaultCloseOperation(WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            setSize(400, 300);
            setLocationRelativeTo(null);
            panel = new JPanel();
            table = new JTable(4, 4);
            btShowPanel = new JButton("Show Panel");
            panel.setBorder(BorderFactory.createTitledBorder("Panel on top of table"));
            panel.setVisible(false);
            getContentPane().setLayout(new GridBagLayout());
            GridBagConstraints gridBagConstraints;
            //panel:
            gridBagConstraints = new GridBagConstraints();
            gridBagConstraints.gridheight = 3;
            gridBagConstraints.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH;
            gridBagConstraints.weightx = 1.0;
            gridBagConstraints.weighty = 0.3;
            getContentPane().add(panel, gridBagConstraints);
            //table:
            gridBagConstraints = new GridBagConstraints();
            gridBagConstraints.gridx = 0;
            gridBagConstraints.gridy = 3;
            gridBagConstraints.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH;
            gridBagConstraints.weightx = 1.0;
            gridBagConstraints.weighty = 1.0;
            getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(table), gridBagConstraints);
            //button:
            gridBagConstraints = new GridBagConstraints();
            gridBagConstraints.gridx = 0;
            gridBagConstraints.gridy = 4;
            gridBagConstraints.anchor = GridBagConstraints.SOUTH;
            gridBagConstraints.weightx = 1.0;
            gridBagConstraints.weighty = 0.1;
            getContentPane().add(btShowPanel, gridBagConstraints);
            btShowPanel.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                public void actionPerformed(final ActionEvent evt) {
                    show = !show;
                    btShowPanel.setText(show ? "Hide Panel" : "Show Panel");
                    panel.setVisible(show);
        public static void main(final String args[]) {
            EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    new TableInGridbaglayout().setVisible(true);

  • Setup frame with menu that notifies other components

    i'm curious how to setup a frame with a menu bar, such that when a menu item is selected other parts of the GUI are notified. for example, if someone selects the "File -> New" menu...how does the GUI get notified to create a new tab in a tabbed pane?
    i know how to do it with code, what i am looking for is the design ideas.
    thx

    Simply by using ActionListeners.
    In whatever frame you add your menubar to, you going to have to assign actionlisteners to the various menuitems. You can make a standalone class that implements your menu bars, in its constructor, supply an ActionListener instance that will be passed to all the menu items that are created.
    This actionlistener can then be created in your application frame and passed to the menubar class. It will be a good idea to use the actioncommand feature so the actions a fired based on those. Simple example
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class StandardMenuBar extends JMenuBar {
        public JMenuItem newFile, open;
        public JMenu fileMenu;
        private ActionListener listener;
        public StandardMenuBar(ActionListener l) {
            super();
            this.listener = l;
            createMenus();
        public void createMenus() {
            newFile = new JMenuItem("New...");
