Creating HELP files

how do i create HELP files in java & how to invoke it on a button click?

Hi,
you might want to look into the JavaHelp technology too. Sun offers a complete API for using help from Java applications or applets etc. See http://java.sun.com/products/javahelp for details.
To author complete help sets in JavaHelp format, you could use an application such as HelpExpert, available at http://www.calcom.de/eng/product/hlpex.htm

  • Creating help files from PDF

I am evaluating RoboHelp as a possible way to create help
files (probably will end up being .CHM files). We'd like to be able
to go from the files used for our printed documentation, which are
generated using LaTeX and output as PDF files. We use LaTeX to
create the PDF files because there are a lot of math symbols in the
docs that no other program seems to handle as well, and I don't
know if RoboHelp will be able to do the job without a lot of manual
cleanup--I've tried a few other programs and the results were not
pretty. Anyone else had success using RoboHelp for their help files
    doing something similar?

    Welcome to the forum.
For anything like this I would strongly recommend that you
download the trial version. It is a very simple matter to create a
project and import a PDF to see whether the result is what you
    want.

  • Created help file either won't open or opens blank when emailed or copied for another user to see it.

Created help file either won't open or opens blank when emailed or copied for another user to see it.
Our HR person made a help file she wants to email to someone or copy to a network share.
-If she emails it the other person cannot open it.
-If she copies it even from her desktop where she saved it to the folder with all the other files, it opens blank.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I think they must be swapping out .html for .chm in DW or something. What the OP describes sure sounds like what happens when you do that.
    @dfiore27101
DW doesn't support .chm file types. Adding the extension doesn't compress the images into the file to create a true .chm.
Adding .chm will make a perfectly good .html file stop displaying in DW though.
An easier way to send someone .html help files would be to archive their folder as a .zip then email the .zip. The recipient would then need to extract the archive to view the files in their browser.
I don't know of any way to create real .chm files in DW.

    Hi,
Have you tried WIN_API_SHELL.winhelp and WIN_API_SHELL.winhelpex?
Both are available in D2KWUtil.PLL, usually included in Forms demos.

Hi Mr_Sia and welcome to the RH community.
You could try looking at the HAT Matrix. This is a comparison
of all the help tools around. Click
    here to go to it.
RoboHelp itself, whilst it does support over 35 different languages
does not support Persian or Arabic.

  • Searches in generated Help Files

    Hi,
I create help files for multiple customers from the same project. I have multiple table of contents with lots of topics that need to be customized for different customers. After I generate the help files I do a search as a test. The problem is that the Robohelp search result includes topics that I did not include in the table of contents.
    thanks for your help

    Hi Eileen
I'm hoping that you and all others that find this to be a problem will take a moment and file a bug with Adobe on it. I filed one for the Exclude from Search not working for CHM files, but got a note back stating something along the lines of "it's a limitation with the CHM format". Personally, I believe they can make it happen if they want to. After all, we can make it happen ourselves if we really want to put forth the effort. So the application needs to assist us by making it easier.

  • Vista help files

I have an old version of Robohelp (Blue Sky Inc.) that I have
used for years to create hypertext notes for Physician's surgical
Certification exam study program. I know that the new Adobe 6.0
version will not run in Vista. However, can it create help files
that will run in Vista? I get a message when I try to run my
current help files (Winhelp) in Vista that states the Winhelp
engine is no longer supported for Vista. If I upgrade and install
the new 6.0 Robohelp (Adobe version) on my WinXP machine, will I be
able to compile my older robohelp projects into a help file that
    will work in Windows Vista?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony

    Hello Rick,
Thanks for the reply. Mine are 32 and they give me the

  • Recomend a software or method for making a help file

Do you have software or a good method for creating HELP files?

    Hey aml1138,
Although National Instruments doesn't make any software that compiles Windows Help files (.chm or .hhp), there are a variety of help building programs available that are free as well as not. As far as free programs go, I have worked with Microsoft's HTML Help Workshop with success:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=00535334-c8a6-452f-9aa0-d597d16580cc&Displa...
However, if you're willing to shell out a few bucks for a program with a few more developers behind it and thus an increased ease of use, I have used FAR which was amazingly easy to use:  http://www.helpware.net/FAR/
    I hope this helps!

How to create backup file on itunes for ipod touch 4g game apps data? Is there a way to do it? I want to try an app on my friend's computer, but you can't add apps on another computer without having your own ipod's data being deleted. Thx for any help!
I want to know how to create a backup file (because I'm pretty new with itunes, and it's hard to use it for me still), how to store my app data/media/videos, etc. And how I can retrieve them back when I'm done with the app I tried on my friend's computer.
If anyone can help, it'd be great! Thank you so much!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • How to create a help file for a VI

I want to create a help file describing my VI. How do i do that by clicking a control. How do I store the help file.

    Hi Mudda;
Assuming you are using Windows, with LabVIEW, you can create the necessary files to create a help file, but you can't create the help file. In order to create your help file, you need a WinHelp compiler.
Also, what LabVIEW allows you to do is to create a file that correspond to the documentation of you VI, so you need to fully document you VIs first.
To document you VI, go to File -> VI Properties and select "Documentation" from the menu. You can access the VI Properties also by Right-clicking the VI icon in the top-right corner of the Window. To document the controls and indicators in your VI, Right-click the control or indicator and select "Description and Tip...".
To create the documentation files, go to File -> Print. At some point
, you will have the option to select a Destination. Select "RTF File" to generate the files a WinHelp compiler understand.
As you will see too, you can also create html files for your VIs. It can be a good alternative for WinHelp files.
There are some nice Help editors outhere. I use HelpScribble. You can see a very simple help file I created with HelpScribble in my small projects VI Background Check and VIs for DeployMaster.

  • How do I open and review a created ready-to-publish help file in RoboHelp 7?

I have my help files created and sent to be published by the developers.  How do I open that file so I can page through it and review it prior to sending it out again?

I created HTML help files.  I had sent them out to our developers.  All I want to do is review wht I created to see if any changes need to be made.  I can't seem to find any file that I can just 'page' through to do so.
