Creating LabVIEW module adapter TestStand Steps using the API without loading module prototype???

Is it possible to programatically create a TestStand step (using the API), that calls a LabVIEW module, without loading the prototype of the module to get a reference to the Module Parameters.
I want to specify a VI Pathname, but I dont want to use that pathname to load the prototype. I want to programatically specify the name, type, representation etc. of each of the controls and indicators.
My reason for attempting this is that I only want the VIs called by the steps to exist on the target hardware not on the numerous development machines running my application.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
Unfortunatly it is not possible to do what you want within Test Stand but I am not sure why it is necessary, I think I am understanding your application incorrectly. The only time you will need to load the prototype is if you are creating the step but if you are creating the step you will need the VI that the step calls so that VI will need to be present on the system. If you are not calling the step then you shouldn't need to load the VI prototype. If this is how you program funtions it may be a problem with your architecture but if not please could you correct my misunderstanding so that I can go about finding a suitable solution.

I have no problem to create new sequences, new steps, add parameters, set comments...
But I haven't found how to add requirements on a step.
Could someone give me the function(s) to call on the TestStand API to do this ?

Hey VCourousse,
You need to get the Step.Requirements as a property object, Get the Links object from that and then SetValStringByOffset. Links is an array of elements in the Requirements property.
Here's what it'd look like:
PropObjectReq = Step.Requirments
PropObjectLinks = PropObjectReq.GetProperyObject("Links", 0)
PropObjectLinks.SetValStringByOffset (elementinRequirements, 0, NewValue)

Certainly it is unusual that you can still see the tables available in your MS Access database but cannot see the columns? I am assuming you are configuring an Open Statement step and are trying to use the ring-control to select columns from your table?
Can you tell me more about the changes you made to your file when you 'changed' it with MS Access? What version of Access are you using? What happens if you try and manually type in an 'Open Statement Dialog's SQL string such as...
"SELECT UUT_RESULT.TEST_SOCKET_INDEX, UUT_RESULT.UUT_STATUS, UUT_RESULT.START_DATE_TIME FROM UUT_RESULT"
Is it able to find the columns even if it can't display them? I am worried that maybe you are using a version of MS Access that is too new for the version of TestSt
and you are running. Has anything else changed aside from the file you are editing?

Hi Jon,
Micro-stepping is a property of the motor amplifier (motor drive) rather than the controller. It sounds like you are using a 3rd party drive, since you have a UMI. You want to check with your motor amplifier documentation to see if it's supported. Usually, there will be dip-switches on the drive that sets the microstep factor.

How do I create/update an Excel file using the API?

Hi,
I've successfully created a "Web Intelligence" document using the API (POST /raylight/v1/documents). However, I need to do the same for an Excel file type and have been unable to do so. Attached are the different steps needed to accomplish this with the UI. I need to be able to do the same thing through the API.
I searched through the docs but haven't found anything regarding this particular aspect.
Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks for the link. I'm using .Net and thought the process would be fairly similar. It is indeed, however, I'm stuck with the following error when committing on the infoStore object:

I didt the same what you have explained. I followed the following Steps.
1. Created the Web Page and published(It is in Umlock State).
2. Created the Site Navigation and gave the target for that page.
3. In the Portal Content, I created a role , then folder and for the folder property, i gave the External Connector wpcnavigation:///wpccontent/Sites/News/Site Navigation/navigation.wpc ( Say for ex News is a Site) and Entry Point as Yes.
4. After this i assigned that role to a user(Super Admin).
After doing the above steps, I couldnt able to see the Web Page displayed.

When you move or copy the compound clips with their events into an external drive all the events should be there. Not clear on why you want to move them into a single event. You can drag and drop from one event to another.
Why are you using compound clips? You can simply copy the project from each machine with used media onto the external drive and that should do it.

While creating Projects Using the API, get two errors: 'Customer name must be passed' and 'class category is invalid'

While trying to Create Projects using the API, I'm getting two types of errors -
The first is : 'API failed in one stage 1 Customer Name is a mandatory Quick Entry field. Value must be passed'
The second is : '
'API failed in one stage 1 Project: '<Project_Number>'
The class category is invalid.'
Both the messages are produced by our custom program. .. however I am not able to understand why the underlying errors occur.
The first error ( Customer Name is a mandatory quick entry field), is caused by Projects that are to be created from Project templates where it is configured with Quick Entry Customer Name required. We are passing Customer Site number ( Party Bill to site number and Party Ship to side number). The site numbers being passed are also set as 'Primary'. Yet they are failing.
For the second Error ( The Class Category is invalid), I rechecked multiple times, the Class categories for the Projects I am trying to create, with the Config in R12 and they are fine. Can't understand the reason for these two issues. Has anyone encountered such an issue ? If so how was it resolved?

I resolved both the issues. In case there are others facing similar issues, following was the cause and resolution of my errors
1. Error 1: Customer Name is a Mandatory Quick Entry field. Value must be passed.
The cause was that the data loaded into our custom staging table was not in the right fields. This was because the data file values and the CTL were not in sync.
Resolution:
Corrected the data file to be in Sync with the structure defined in the CTL and this loaded it successfully
2. Error 2: The class category is invalid.
The cause of this error was that in the Projects Template (used to create the project from), the Quick Entry setup had a Class Category set as required and I was not passing a value ( a class code value) for that Class Category.

I have spent hours on the phone with what I now know is a call center in Texas on this question.
I think Apple could be a little more "hands on" with iBooks Author users, and it should also be pointed out that landscape photos will not display in portrait mode.
In my case, I used gallery widgets to display vertical photos, since they look better in portrait mode.
But instead of simply rotating, the page disappears and a TOC of interactive media appears. The gallery behaves as expected when tapped. This is not what I expected, but since the gallery works, I can live with it.
Right now I have "tickets" telling me to "fix" this "problem or to disable portrait mode.
I don't want to disable portrait mode.
Will Apple accept the books if I tell them this is not an "error?"

What is the data throughput in labview. I want to use the parallel as acheap digital i/o to drive a stepper motor.

I am trying to use the parallel port on a win xp machine to send data a@ up to a 3k rate. This is for the the purpose of driving a stepper motor. I have tried the port.out vi and placed this vi in a loop and it on a scope it looks like I am limited to a a 200hz rate. What am I doing wrong??? Can labview do this or is it too slow ???

Basically the way the Port I/O VIs are implemented they call through a
device driver for each port access. This slows down the maximum port
accesses to something like 1000 times per second depending on the speed
of your CPU.
There is a way to do it faster but that is a little more trick
y. The
idea is to use a device driver to enable particular port addresses to be
accessed directly from the application level instead of always going
through the kernel.
I have written such a VI library and accompagning DLL and device driver
and made it available on OpenG. It is not yet part of the standard
binary distribution packets so you will have to get it from the CVS
repository.

Well there is no hard and fast rule that you have to copy nad create a new order type. Its just to meet our own requirements that we copy the standard and make the changes if required to meet our business needs.
And by this way we keep unchanged the standard order type for further use.
If you are sure that the standard order type satisfies your need you can directly use that only.
I hope this clarifies the issue.

Creating a mapping using the API

Hi Brian, I am curious about this use case - what's the reason you are looking to do it using the API? You can create several objects using the API and the most typical use case we have observed is where mapping developers create a pattern or what we call as a "template" - which is a mapping with various properties parameterized. For example you can create a mapping with the filter parameterized, or define a very generic mapping with source, target and the field map between those all parameterized. Once you do that, you can create a "task" for this mapping (known as Mapping Configuration Task) - that can be done using our UI or using our REST API. If you choose the latter, you can pass on parameter values as part of the API request. I was wondering about creating a mapping using the API. It clearly states in the Dev guide that this is possible, but when I perform a get mapping request, I don't see all the information given for a certain object. For example, I don't see an expression in the mapping object (although one exists when I view the object in Cloud). Has anyone else done this? Is it easy to create objects via the API? Thanks!
