Creating video screen ads 384 x 240 px quality problem in FCP

I am a creating video ads for my client for an outdoor event which will be shown on a big video screen.
I contacted the Audio visual company who are supplying the equipment and techy guys for the event and they told me to create the ads at 384 x 240 pixels in Quicktime.
So i have created a custom sequence in FCP of 384 x 240 pixels with a pixel aspect ratio of (PAL- CCIR 601 720X576), field dom is lower (even) and qt settings as DV-PAL but when I bring in any graphics or film or motion graphics to that sequence and render it the quality is awful...any ideas?

Well, part of the reason your quality has been awful is because you're using DV compression settings on your sequence.
Create a 1080i ProRes sequence. Bring all your elements into that. Create a 16x10 matte in photoshop and overlay it on top of your sequence, to avoid losing anything when you make your final crop.
Edit your sequence. Remove the matte. Export a self contained QT at the sequence settings.
Open that file in Compressor. Select your desired video settings. In the geometry tab, resize to "Custom", enter 384x240, maintain aspect ration by cropping.
Submit.

  • How do I create a screen saver from a video file?

I've been trying to search for an answer to this question for 20 minutes, without luck, so I figured the best course of action is to ask the experts.
I'm a video editor.  If I cut together a series of clips, of any length, how do I make that movie into a screen saver that will be usable on OS X Lion and Windows XP?  I would assume that it's just a matter of converting the movie file to something that an operating system recognizes and will play as a screen saver (on both platforms), but I cannot Google my way into finding the answer... I'm wanting to make a video screen saver for my wife for Christmas.  PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
There are a few tools you can use. This page lists a couple. It looks like you can download a trial version and see if it'll do what you want. If not there's another one on that page.
If you're handy with programming, you can also create your own with Xcode. There's an article here that talks about it, though it's a bit old, and might be somewhat out of date.
But just dropping SWF files probably isn't going to work. A screen saver is a special kind of program...

  • Why arent any videos working on my firefox browser? Youtube has an error message, and all other videos and ads come up with a blank white screen

It's one of those problems where it works like one minute, and then suddenly stops working the next. I know for a fact it has to do with the flash player in some way. I've had this problem before and found the solution, but for some reason i cant find it again, and forgot how i solved it. I've tried to redownload both adobe flash player and firefox but it didnt solve anything, disabling adblock doesnt help, disabling the hardware acceleration a little but useless difference, i have tried to disable the flash player add-ons and enabled them, both dont work, i only have 1 version of flashplayer( the most recent), and I am too frustrated to keep searching for an answer that is correct, when all i can find are the wrong ones over and over again . If anyone knows how to solve the problem where the FIREFOX(only) browser shows youtube as having the error " an error has occurred. Please try again later. " and all other videos and ads have a white blank screen, PLEASE help
also, everything works on google chrome and IE

also, the last solution i had didnt require me to install an earlier version of flashplayer or firefox, and it was the same problem

how can I easily video screen capture my interactions on an ipad2 so I can play back to demo content I have created?

    Hi,
Thanks for the response but I know how to do a screen capture but wanted to be able to capture myself interacting with the ipad ansd turn into a movie i.e. showing all the movement / animation etc as I interact.
I have now figured out a good solution. Using AirServer you can wirelessly connect you ipad to your mac/pc then using a video capture solution like Snapz Pro you can capture what you are doing to create the video.
    Cheers

  • I have premier elements 9. I can no longer create videos. Is it because of upgrade? Please tell me what to do. TY

When I open elements 9- to create a new video- it is now just a blank, black/gray screen. I can no longer create videos. I can't upload from computer, etc. Is this from the new download of Rebel?
Please tell me what to do, where to go. I realize this is an old version- but I liked it and it was easy to use....Am I required to purchase another version now?

    smokeymountainwedding
You need to explain your situation further so we are clear on how to answer your question.
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? Have you been and are you now running the program
as the 9.0.1 Update? When you the last time that you used this program successfully for one of your video productions?
    2. Are you trying to import video from the Canon EOS Rebel t3i or another model into Premiere Elements 9 workspace?
From what I have read, the camera records with a MPEG4 video compression and has a .mov file extension. Is that true? What camera setting are you using 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720, or other? And, what does it say for frames per second?
So, do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.
Bottom line: are you using the same computer, same Premiere Elements 9, same Canon footage, that worked before and now it is not working?
And, please clarify...important....do you meet this problem even before you try to import your Canon video into a project?
When you open the program from its desktop icon, are you left facing a gray window with menu names across the top that will not open?
Lots of questions, lots of answers needed.
Your details will help us to help you.
    Thank you.

  • Best Setting to Create Video in LR

    First I am talking about creating a video from still Raw photos in LR.   Actually two different topics;
    (1) Issue with MP4 - I an new to all the settings, formats to do this.  I created an MP4 1080p with music and it worked well on Win7 OS but not on XP or Vista... The audio did not play correctly.      I might be able to live with this but I would like to know if creating 1080p or 720p would resolve the audio issue? at a trade off in quality? ... I a real newbie in this area...     The videos from stills that I have seen were not good quality but this created great quality.
    (2) A different question --- What format/setting in LR to create a DVD with audio that could be played in a non Blu Ray unit... I want to be able to use a large TV with a DVD player.....    Do I use the create Video or do I create a Slide Show with audio and what setting...   I know I need to do some reading...    I am a bit under the gun to get processing results and since I have so many photos, they will be good for this type of thing vs. delivering just normal JPEG images.
    Thank you.

As far as playing video files on different OS's this is more dependent on the player you are using and the video card, than the OS you are using. On windows systems windows media player should handle HD formats as long as your video card is up to it, if you have problems download VLC media player (just google it) as this will play anything you throw at it.
LR's video output is very limited (and in my view a waste of time), if you really want to incorporate still images into a video format you would be better using a video editing application rather than LR's output. For the best quality slideshow from still images you would also be better either showing slideshows directly using LR itself or using PDF's as even HD video will comes nowhere near matching the quality of a still photographic image. If you wish to mix still and moving images then I would crop and export the images as 8 bit tiffs and import them into the video editing application where you can have much more control. On Macs i-movie is pretty good for basic video editing. Unfortunately on windows you will really have to buy an application as the free windows application is useless. Premier Elements is a pretty good choice.
If you do wish to use video exported directly from LR the HD setting are 1080p or 720p and this would require a Blue Ray disk to play correctly. The HD 1080p gives a 16:9 format with a max width of 1920pxs, 720p is 1280 x 720pxs . To make a standard DVD you use the 720 x 440 output (rather than the two HD formats) and then you would require a DVD creation application to actually burn the DVD.
By the way, I have an a couple of tests on the HD output as a slideshow from LR compared with using Premier Elements. I will post these to Vimeo and put links once they are showing. One point emerges straight away, even without sound the same slideshow is 20% larger from LR than outputted from Elements using Vimeo's recommended compression settings in both cases. Played on my machine directly the Elements version also looks better, whether this will also show on line I don't know until they have uploaded and rendered.
Here is the version from LR...play at full screen and you will see the problems.
Here is the version made in Premier Elements, which is far better (and a smaller file).

  • Creating video for web

    Hi,
I'm currently putting together some videos in FCP for our new website. I've used FCP a lot for creating video for DVD's and exporting to .mov but converting to flash is relatively new to me.
I am using the On2 Flix FLV exporter to export direct from FCP to a 704 x 396 flv file.
Can someone clarify how I should set up my sequence in FCP to get the best quality results? All the source material is DV PAL for video (720 x 576 anamorphic) and PNG-24 for still images (in this case a background which I will input text over in FCP). Should I be setting all my sequences to 704 x 396, and what pixel aspect ratio should I use seeing as it is for flash/web use?
Also, in the Sequence Settings dialog box what should I set as the Compressor settings (dv pal/h.264 etc) as flv does not appear as an option?
    Thanks
    Jack

Thanks guys. So if I am to carry on working in the standard DV-Pal sequence I'm wondering what to do when importing graphics. I have been given a psd which contains a title screen that will be placed before each video. The psd has been given to me at 704 x 396 - the size of the final delivered FLV rather than the DV Pal sequence. When I bring this image into FCP and render it makes the image look pixelated/blocky (I'm exporting from Photoshop as a PNG-24). What is the proper way to export graphics for use in Final Cut? Should I re-size the image to match the sequence or bring it in at 704x396 and have Final Cut resize it?
    Thanks

  • Recomended configurations for creating video for the web

I'm working on a project creating video segments for the web (no plans for broadcast of DVD) and I'm looking for opinions on the most efficient way to use FCP to do this. We are shooting with an HD camera with a green screen and composting a couple of additional layers of Motion graphics and we found that the render times were really long. I'm looking for ways to mitigate this, on thing we did was switch from shooting in 1080p to 720p. We also tried shooting at 24fps instead of the broadcast 60fps and that cut our render time by a good percentage. Since the final product is going to be 640 by 360 at 15fps it seems like a good trade off but are there any down sides I'm not thinking of.
I was also wondering if there might be an advantage to working at the size of the final product, if the FCP sequence were 640 by 360 would there be any advantages in terms of render times and what might the disadvantages would be.
This is my first semi-professional project, just been a hobbyist up until now so any advice is appreciated.

those simple steps reduced the number of pixels in each frame from about a million to 750,00, about 25%; and you reduced the number of frames from 30 or 60 to 24 or 48. So, yeah, your rendering times are going down. If your Motion project has ten HD layers you're saving tons of processing.

Absolutely. But you engaged the project without knowing how you were going to accomplish anything; implies your plans for improving workflow will be similarly incomplete. We all got by with NTSC and plan ol' DV for decades. The web is a low end distribution system, not a theatrical viewing experience. You can force your viewers to download a huge file and watch it on their TVs or you can open it up in weensy teeny window on their iPhones.

Purists will be correct in telling you better source footage results in better uploads. I will tell you that's true but it's academic. Your realworld needs are based on your web upload, not your plans to archive high def footage for future exploitation.
Here's what I'd do: Work backwards. Figure out what your upload needs are--exactly. Research Compressor and other compression systems to determine how you are going to process your project to get the target output. Now decide what format that software wants to process to create the best results. then figure out how you want to provide that input for the compression application. then figure out what the tradeoffs are for your original footage in terms of your camera resources, your skills with the camera, and your mistaken impression that effects and chromakey should be fast.

  • How do I create video playlists in SmartCenter 2.0?

I have several dozen videos that I can see when I open up the video portion of SmartCenter and sort by Datse, Folders or All Videos however when I select "Playlists" it says "Playlists - No videos could be found" at the top of the screen just below the "Dates, Folders, All Videos, Playlists, etc." bar. It would really be helpful to create video playlists, but how do I get the videos that are showing up everywhere else in the playlist window?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    This question was solved.

Umm... has anyone pondered a situation for a days if not weeks on end before mustering up the courage to ask for help and then found the solution minutes after asking? Yeah, this is one of those occasions. Weird.
In my defense, the user interface seems a bit obtuse. When you click "Playlists" and then "Create Playlist" at the bottom of the screen you then must click "Dates, "Folders", or "All Videos" to search for videos. The "obtusity" is that it didn't seem intuitive to me that I then had to search in those other headings after I selected to create a playlist. I assumed that the "Create a Playlist" window that then popped up would include all videos in the watched folders. When you see a video you will find that there is a green circle with a plus sign on the upper right corner. Clicking that will add it to the playlist that you are creating. When you're satisfied with the playlist, give it a name and then save it.

When trying to watch videos on various websites including YouTube, the video screen is completely green. I can hear the audio, but no visual. This does not happen with every video, but it is fairly common for me. When I try to watch the same videos with Internet Explorer they work fine. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • I create a project w/iMovie and I have two problems:  When I try to finalize the project iMovie crashes; when I share to DVD sometimes it crashes also; if I can successfully send it to DVD and then burn a DVD there are wavy lines on the screen.  Help!

You can split a project in two by doing this.
    1) Go to the Project Library View.
    2) Select your project, and click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT. Give it a name like "your project name - part 1".
    3) Do this again. This time name it "your project name - part 2"
    4) Open Part 1 for editing. Delete everything in the second half.
    5) Open Part 1 for editing. Delete everything in the first half of the project.
At the end you should have your original project, plus the same project in two parts.

I need to build a training demo, capturing what's seen on a computer screen while one of our guys walks the end user through some software. • Does creative cloud include any software for HD video screen capture?

Does creative cloud include any software for HD video screen capture? I know that Captivate is not offered but are there other software applications available that do the same job? I am not wanting to make tutorials but I am a filmmaker wanting to integrate sequences with screen capture (which I will edit on Premiere)

    Thanks Brian,
Spent some time yesterday doing research on this. There are good reviews and bad reviews for just about every screen capture application out there it seems.
The top-ten reviews gave their gold medal to CamVerce, which I'll probably buy today.
    http://video-capture-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
Yesterday I bought the Sonne Screen video which is rated 5th on the top-ten site. (I figured as I'm going to be editing on premiere I shoudn't need to pay for extra editing packages and as I'm not using it to create tutorials I really just want a good quality screen capture for Windows 8). However, I'm not really happy with the image quality on playback and I'm finding the technical assistance really poor from Sonne. I still haven't received an email confirmation from them.
The others that I thought sounded right for me were WM Capture (though the top-ten review had a few negative things to say about it).
Tried a couple of the free ones also. EZvid is very popular.
Will see how I go and let you know. I'm sure this is very subjective and I'm probably not being as clear as I need to be about purpose of use.

  • Video screen Capturing compatible with FCP!!!

    Hello,
I recently captured a lot of footage using Snapz Pro X to create a tutorial for a website. After importing it into FCP, it wants to render everything, all the time, for every small change. These render take hours and hours for the smallest change. What should I do? The Snapz Pro X quicktime files are not FCP compatible. Is there a new program to get high quality video screen captures or a way to convert the files I have now? Any help would be extremely great.
    Thanks
    Erik

In iShowU I am recording at 1440x1080 30p, and capture area is same as video. Then I am importing the quicktime files into FCP. The sequence settings are Apple ProRes 422 1440x1080 60i. Capture Preset is HDV -Apple ProRes 422. The sequence settings are Frame Size 1440x1080 as well as aspect ratio. Something somewhere is off and its driving me mad. haha
    Thanks
