Creation of electronic signature via webcam

I am very frustrated with Adobe Reader.
I wish to sign a PDF document, using my webcam.
I began with: Sign -> I need to sign -> Place Signature.
This opened a dialog with a sequence of about 7 vertical radio buttons, to select the means of signing.
One of the radio buttons was a "Web Cam" option.
However, "Web Cam" and every other radio button was greyed-out, except the last choice (the name of which I don't recall).
I tried many times, and obtained the same result.
Finally, I clicked "next", despite the wrong radio button being selected.
Now, my choice seems to have been "locked in".
I obtain a dialog that says "To begin signing, choose the 'Drag New Signature Rectangle' button....".
Firstly, how do I cancel this "choice"?
Secondly, why are all "other" options, including "Web Cam" greyed out? Yes, I do have a Web Cam.
The interface seems horrific to me.
1) It's absurd to "lock in" a choice without making clear how to "unlock" it.
2) There should be some indication as to WHY the various options are greyed out.
3) I've looked at documentation on how to do this. NONE of it matches the latest version of Adobe Reader.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Amy...
Well .. you should become familiar with the Structure Application Developers Guide (PDF installed in your FM/docs folder) .. this has all of the info you'll need.
You're on the right track .. it sounds like you're doing the right thing. After using Open DTD, you should end up with an EDD (or the start of one). If there are errors in this import process, you'll need to resolve the errors before you can continue. Many times you'll need to make tweaks to the EDD to get certain element types properly set up (tables are often a problem). You'll also need to make adjustments to the EDD so that certain elements are rendered in a useful way (empty elements may need to be a marker). For a complex DTD, there's often a lot of work to make the needed tweaks. This will also involve setting up a read/write rules file, as well as a template. At a minimum the structure application consists of an EDD, rules file, and template.
It's likely that someone else is also working on developing a structure app for this DTD, you might post a query asking specifically about that.
This process of making a structure app from a DTD can be bit of work, but keep in mind that once you're finished and are able to open the XML files in Frame, you're basically ready to print (assuming you've set up your template with meaningful styles). If you use other XML editors, you'll be able to open the files right away and start editing, but in order to print, you've got to do a lot of work. It's basically a tradeoff .. and from what I've seen the FM approach is typically less work in the long run.
BTW .. where does one find this DTD? I made a quick Google search and found the MIL-STD-40051 specification, but no DTD. I'd be interested in checking this out, can you point me at it?
Cheers,
...scott

  • Electronic signatures and Lock the document

    Dear All.

  • Printing issue with Electronic Signatures

In the footer of my document, i place document properties and also use the captioning feature for tables and figures. I have saved it in native 2010 format not in a compatability mode.
When I print my document (paper or PDF) these fields print properly.
After I electronically sign the document and look at the document on the screen, the fields and caption numbers (Table 1-1: Intended Audience) appear correctly. When I print to PDF or paper, the numbers disappear (Table 1-: Intended Audience) and they
    also disappear from the screen.
When I close the document and reopen it, the fields are correct. It only changes after the document prints.
Using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.6023.1000 (32-bit).
    (--merging--)
The original document was a 2007 document opened/stored in the 2010 format.
Reproduced with new 2010 document simply by creating two properties:
    Template Version - Test - Value 1.0
    Template Date - Date - Value 1/25/2012
    And doing the following:
Using the default Normal template with calibri as the font
Added a heading level 1 to the document
Added a 2x2 table with Insert Caption including the chapter number based on heading 1 below the table
Added the template version and template date as two lines on the page
    Inserted a signature line
Created a footer with the template version, page number aligned center (via tab), template date alighted right (via tab)
Printed without signing and all data was present (Table 0-1: Test)
Signed the document and printed. The following was missing:
The template date in the footer.
The table label was Table 0-: Test
The template date was present in the middle of the document

    Hi,
Is this problem only affect Word program with Electronic Signatures?
Please try to test Printing with different printer drivers.
If the Word printing problem occurs only when you print documents with a certain font or a certain type of graphics image, try to print to another printer.
If no other printer is available, contact the manufacturer to find out whether there is an updated version of the driver or a different driver that works with your printer model.

  • How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)?

How do I complete an electronic signature field in an Interactive PDF form (created in Indesign)? This form will serve as an employment application on a website. The goal is to have any person (interested in applying for a job via the Internet) access, complete and electronically sign the form upon submission.

    Hi,
Via createPDF you would not be able to electronic sign the PDF form, you would either require Adobe Reader or purchase Adobe Acrobat to sign the PDF.
    To download Adobe Reader

    You can purchase Adobe Acrobat

  • Electronic signature field

we are looking into Digital and Electronic Signatures.. I was wondering if there was any way in Crystal Reports XI deployed by Crystal Reports Enterprise Server XI R2 via RAS using ASP to convert the report to PDF. to have the PDF prefilled with a signature area (like what Adobe LifeCycle creates)..
so that the people just have to click the field to sign it..

I don't believe so.  You can of course export the Crystal report to pdf but the electronic signature part would require custom programming.

  • I cannot place an electronic signature in a document with form fields?!

I have Acrobat Pro installed on a windows 7 and windows 8.1 machine. On both I have lost the ability to place an electronic signature (Draw my signature) and only have the option for a digital signature. The problem is remedied if I print to pdf but then I lose the form fields.
I'm an idiot and so are the people that I need to send this to. I just want to easily fill the necessary fields out, draw my signature and forward it to the next guy to do the same so that it can be printed and turned in. Digital signatures are severe overkill for this (and i'm not going to be able to teach everyone how to create one) and I need to know how to re-enable the ability to electronically sign and keep the form fields.

re: "Digital signatures are severe overkill for this"
Yep, I discovered that as well.
I rolled my own "signature" for a client...I just added a 3 character "initials" field and a "Certify" button.
The initials act as the signature and once they hit the certify button, all form fields are set to read-only....via custom javascript.
The only problem is that I am unable to SAVE the document via javascript because of Acrobat trusted functions....
    which I don't have.
So I just prompt the user to Save the document at that time.
It's a little ugly, but it works..

  • Electronic Signature Field Indicator

We are deploying an eForms application that uses the standard electronic signature field from the Designer object library. The basic process flow is: (1) Form is rendered via an XDP file from the Form Server using the Reader Extensions API to apply rights. (2) User completes the form and signs using the self-signed signature field. The field displays a check-mark indicating the form is signed correctly. (3) User hits "submit" button which invokes a processForm servlet that sends the form as a PDF file attachment within an email to an internal mailbox. Problem: when we open the PDF form in the mailbox, it shows a "?" in the signature field. As you hover over this field, you get the following message: "Signer's identify unknown, the document has been updated since signed". This message will be confusing to our users that will process the PDF form attachment.

I don't believe so.  You can of course export the Crystal report to pdf but the electronic signature part would require custom programming.

  • Electronic signature options

When setting up a new electronic signature do I choose:
New PKCS#12 digital ID file (which sounds really confusing)
    or
    Windows certificate store
What is the difference & what is an easy way to explain this to people who will be signing it why they are choosing a particular option?
And how safe & secure is this electronic signature with adobe?  Is there any information from adobe stating its security gurantee?

    Hi Johnny,
This can get complicate, not because it is that hard, but because there are a lot of little pieces when it comes to grasping digital signatures. With that in mind, please don't hesitate to tell me if what I write isn't clear.
First, a bit of what is a digital ID (the thing you use to create a digital signature)? It consists of three pieces; 1) a public key, 2) the corresponding private key, and 3) certificate data such as your name and the validity period. When you create a digital ID it has to be protected because it contains your private key. How it's protected depends on where you store the digital ID.
This brings us to your initial question. When you create a digital ID Acrobat has to know where you want to store it. The Windows Certificate Store (and "store" in this case means a storage location, not a place you buy something from) is managed by the Windows operating system and the concept is the private key is protected by your Windows logon password. Windows does allow you to set a security level where you may be prompted by Windows for  password every time you want to access the private key, or you could just go with if I've logged in that's good enough.
The other place that Acrobat will allow you to save the digital ID is in a file. Like any other file, it's just a piece of data that gets saved to your hard drive (or some network drive) and it has a file extension (in this case .PFX). The big difference between a .PFX file and say a .TXT file is the .PFX  file has to be password protected (again, because it contains your private key and you don't want anybody else having access to that). Thus, as part of the file creation process Acrobat will ask you what password you want to use. The crux of the matter is the .PFX file is itself being encrypted using password security.
As an aside, there are other places that Acrobat can access (read) a digital ID, but these are the only two place that it can save (write) a digital ID. The digital ID could reside in the Mac Keychain (its the Macintosh equvilent of the Windows Certificate Store), or on a smart card or USB token or even a specialized server, all of which Acrobat can access.
Finally, you asked about where to get more info. A good place to stat is http://www.adobe.com/security/digsig.html where you can start to read up on the benefits of digital signatures.

  • Can someone place an electronic signature if they only have Adobe Reader?

I'm creating a form with Adobe X Pro that requires a signature, but a majority of the people i will be sending this form to will likely only have adobe reader.  Is there a way for them to "place an ink signature" or sign it with adobe reader?

There are two types of signatures that Adobe Reader can apply.
    1.  The Digital Signature requires a Reader-extended document via Adobe Acrobat Pro or LIveCycle Server ES4 and a pre-created Signature field in the document.
    2.  The Electronic Signature which is applied through an online service called Adobe EchoSign and which is a paid service.
You need to decide which one you want your users to use and then proceed accordingly.

  • Electronic signature and intranet security

    Hi,
I find the 9.0 version of Adobe Acrobat professonal really annoying. I am creating a lot of PDF-documents which are to be presented on my company's Intranet pages. What is really disturbing is that I have to electronically sign all the PDFs - otherwise when opening a PDF document via a link from another PDF document on our intranet the user gets this pop-up question "are you sure this information comes from a trusted source ...etc" due to the security level set for the www. In earlier versions this phenomen did not exist. It is disturbing for the users to get all these pop-up messages when navigating through our intranet which we as a whole consider safe. It causes me a LOT of extra work having to sign and save all documents an extra time every time I make a document change. There must be a way to turn off this ******** or I'm throwing away my Acrobat 9.0 license (anyone who wants to exchange it with an older version.
One more thing - is there an easy way to - one and for all - set that I want all the PDFs I create to be saved without showing all the stuff like the menu row and the tools list when the users opens the PDF. Every time I make a change to a PDF I have to set these conditions over and over again.... not really very user friendly!!!!

  • Electronic signature capture - how to?

Anyone have a solution for Macs for electronic signature capture? I cannot find any compatible signature capture devices on the market. Something like Topaz.
Suggestions would be so very welcome.

Autograph from TenOne is software that provides simple signature capture via the trackpad of a laptop. But it's not like Topaz. There's also a plug-in for use with FileMaker. I found these from a Google search, so you might give that a try.

  • Multiple electronic signatures in PDF portfolio

I Have a PDF portfolio that has multiple PDFs in it each requiring 1 or more electronic signatures.  The problem is that after the first person signs one of the PDFs no one else is able to and they receive an error saying it's already open or they have read only access

Which Acrobat version do you have? I've heard that there is a bug in this area in Acrobat 11.0.7. I do not have personal experience with it and I do not know how soon it will be fixed.

  • I have adobe Acrobat - I am trying to do a electronic signature and its is asking for a passwork

I am trying to sign a document that is protected from an university. It is asking me for a password to put in my electronic signature.  I don't have that password and it isn't the one for my account

    Hi Estella,
It sounds like the university has disallowed signing in this particular document, unless you have  Document Permissions password. You will have to ask the person who created the document what the password is, so that you can sign the document.
I wish I had a different answer for you--but there's no way around that without the document password.

  • Can I open a Reader 9 Document with electronic signatures in Reader 10?

I currently have an Adobe Reader 9 document with fields filled out and also with several electronic signatures.
I need to be able to edit this document.
My understanding is that I can only edit or add the typewritter tool only when using Reader 10.
So couple of questions. First, will I be able to open this Reader 9 document using Reader 10?
Second, will I be able to add the typewritter tool once I download Reader 10?
Third, will I be able to make changes to existing form field data, once I add the typewritter tool?
Fourth, will this process invalidate the digital signatures already authenticated?

The "Typewriter tool" is only available in Acrobat Pro. Reader 11 DOES have the ability to "Add text comments" to a PDF but it isn't exactly the same thing. I'm unsure if "comments" will print or not.

You may consider it a horrible answer, what was your opinion of the question?
