Creative's Flash Memory MP3 play

Why is Creative only obsessed with making the smallest flash memory MP3 players? While those are very desirable to some people, others want other features, such as the use of a AA battery instead of a AAA, having AM as well FM radio, and/or having flash memory slots so that someone can install an extra flash memory card(some people already have very large capacity flash memory card that they bought to use with a digital camera. It would also be nice if Creative came out with flash memory based MP3 players with more than one gig of storage. While I am on the subjuct of flash memory cards, it would be nice if Creative came out with a true "photo" hard dri've based MP3 player that not only displays digital images in color, but allows images to be transferred to it from flash memory cards without using a pc. Many amateur or even pro photographers who aren't even interested in listening to music would probably buy this if is priced right.

I'm guessing Creative think this is what's mass marketable, as they won't be able to produce a player to meet everyones desires and needs. I thought the Sport C00 allowed the use of external cards, but not sure what its limit is.

I'm not sure that it will do this, but the Zen Micro Photo is on the cards for a June(ish) release.

  • Flash memory 5GB mp3 player..to Creative Managament.

I was hoping that Creative would come up with a Flash Memory Base 5GB or more mp3 player...
I got my first Creative Nomad II mp3 player with a 64MB MMC way back long ago and this year a got my self the Creative Media Player with 20GB harddri've.
Knowing that you are using a Flash memory base unit feels more reassuring, even if you are running or jogging, you are not putting the unit into a lot of mechanical stress that could be damage like that of harddisk base unit.
I travel a lot but my Creative Media Center proves to be very bulky (for me at least). I am more into MP3 music and audiobooks, so i need a lot of memory from a small/compact player at the same time the unit should be robust enough to face the toughest usage.
Anyone who supports that idea Creative should come up with a 5GB or more Flash Memory Base mp3 player. please....... I hope a lot would be willing to pay for the price of a higher GB's.. I would!
Thanks and more power to Creative.
By the way.. my Creative Nomad is still functional though i selldom used it anymore because of limited capacity....sure do loved it all the time...

  • Date of "Battery Birth" of Creative Zen Flash MP3 playe

Date of Battery Birth of Creative Zen Flash MP3 players.
Your Zen Lithium_Ion Polymer Battery lifespan is ~ 2-3 years OR the number of discharges/charges cycles -
approximately ~ 300-500 cycles max. Whichever comes first will degrade the charging capacity of the
Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery. Keep in mind, the Lithium-Ion life span begins "aging" from the time of
    manufacturing of the battery!
Translation: If you bought a Creative Zen from Walmart,Target, Circuit City or Radio Shack, your battery
lifespan begins when the battery was manufactured by SK Mobile Energy (You don't know the manufacturing
date). If it was on the Walmart shelf for 2 years (You don't know this) Then, by the time you bought the Zen MP3
player your battery "shelf life" and battery charging capacity is gone!?
It would be very "consumer friendly" if Creative would show on the LCD display under the system/information
screen the EXACT birth/manufacture date of the Lithium-Ion battery and the number of discharges/charges
(300-500 max?) the battery has been through. After all, Creative manufactures the Zen and solders
in the "non-user replaceable battery" and they know the exact date of when the battery was manufactured. By
doing this, this would prevent "shady vendors" or third parties from "pulling the wool" over unsuspecting
consumers eyes. A firmware change would be in order.
Also, they should put a 0-00% battery capacity in numerical numbers near the battery symbol.
Keep in mind, the battery discharge rate and battery symbol is non-linear.
If Creative doesn't want to do this firmware change maybe they should do the following:
Have just only a Lithium-Ion Polymer battery warranty (not just the player warranty)? to protect the end users from too long shelf life of a battery.
    Ref. Links
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery
    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_th...ithium_battery
A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of
manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of
charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike
other batteries. This drawback is not widely published.[3]
    DRM? DVD Copy? Music Copying.

I don't know the internal workings of the Zen Lithium-ion charging circuit but you should be able to use your
Zen player just like a laptop plugged into the wall.
Once the charging circuit sees a certain charge voltage on the battery it should shut down or go to a float mode.
    (added this)?
Allow the battery to completely discharge from time-to-time then recharge it fully.
    From the link:
    http://www.omnica.com/omniview_electronics2.htm
Regarding lithium-ion shelf life, one of our engineers recently met with a battery-house representati've. It has come to their attention that repeated charging and re-charging of a less than fully discharged Li-ion cell affects the battery "gas gauge" included with many devices. Over a number of cycles there is a resultant loss in accuracy. Frequently, the indicated remaining charge has little relationship to the actual amount of life left in the cell! Fortunately, according to the battery expert, the gauge will reset itself if the battery is allowed to completely discharge from time-to-time.

  • Creative Labs Digital MP3 Playe

Hi, guys am planning to buy this MP3 player the main reason is its extended MMC. Is there an upgrade that could make this piece of equipment read as far as GB capacity of MMC?
    Thanks...

Erm... It really depends on the sizes. Creative HDD variants come in 4,5,6, 20 GB etc. Flash-based mp3 on the other hand comes in 64mb (the old ones),28mb, 256mb,52mb,GB most of which are fixed memory. Prior to that, are you intending to bring your mp3 player for vigorous activities like working out in the gym or jogging? If so, it would be better if you get the flash version instead.
However, in comparing the size difference, a larger capacity i.e. 20GB is more worth than a 4 or 5GB player which costs ard S$329. The 20GB one would cost S$399. (This is the price in singapore during a sale a month ago.) So, as you can see, it would be more worthwhile getting the 20GB one, which may be bigger in size and is slightly heavier than the 4GB or 5GB ones. What's more? You can use the 20GB one to back up or transfer your files from one computer to another. The 4GB ones also can, just that the space is much smaller.
    ultimately, the choice is yours.

  • Creative's flash MP3 player strat

I don't understand Creative's strategy in the flash MP3 player market. The n200, v200, Muvo Mix and Muvo tx fm seem too similar. I like the idea of leaving out the radio, line in and mic on some models to lower the cost, however leaving off the display is imo a great mistake(I could do without the backlight though). How about more di'versity in the flash player offerings? How about a slightly larger player that takes a AA battery and has both an AM and FM tuner? How about a flash memory based player with 2 gigs of storage(Have the 28 meg players all been phased out? Perhaps soon the 256 meg players should be phased out?)

From a business perspecti've Creative have to tally all of these bugs against resource and impact. If the bug is small, unlikely to be found and/or doesn't affect many users, chances are they won't fix it. It may irritate the hell out of a small group of users, but that's business unfortunately, particularly in large companies.

  • Does creative plan to release a new mp3 play

5 minutes ago a bought a Zen touch but noticed it was kinda outdated and i would really kick myself in the nads if creative releases a new mp3 player in about a month so are there any plans for a new one (one that just plays music and doesn't have all the extra features like video and pictures).
The only thing that i don't like is the size it is kinda big.
Hope creative has some plans on the near future

Well the thing i didn't like about the sleek it was the battery and the thing it killed it for me is that i have to go to a menu to turn on the volume (i have a lot of songs that ha ve very differnt bitrate), so the only thing i found better was the desing, I kinda hope creative doesn't releases a new player and i kinda wish they would.
I don't want to kick myself in the nads it really hurts!!!

  • Toshiba 40SL733g - How to play video files from USB flash memory

When I plug my USB flash memory in USB port, Media Player menu shows up with two options : Photos and Settings.
How do I make my TV recognize and play video files from USB flash memory?
    Flash is on FAT32.
I have tried to play avi, mp4 and mkv files but nothing happens. It looks like flash is empty.
Could you please help me solve this problem.
    Thanks!

bzunic, have you updated the firmware for your model?.
With my own set, (32RL900A), the instruction manual said that certain buttons on the remote control were "unused", however, after the first firmware update, the previously "unused" buttons were used, (In our case, Time Shift, Record, and so on).
The reason I talk about this is, these features became available after a firmware upgrade, and were not mentioned in the user manual, in our case, and a later download of the instruction manual for our model actually gave the instructions for the use of these features, which were shown as "not available", in the original instruction manual supplied with the TV, but became available after the firmware upgrade.
Let us know how it all works out ............

    To Creative Labs,
Please in the future?design a soundcard that i can load a lot of (IFX)Insert effects like Reverb, Chorus, Delay, Flanger, Resonance, Equalizer but for every Sound or Soundfont I select in the Contron Panel and also?to memorize these effect settings and?at the end the (MFX)Master Effects,?Compressor and Master Equalizer?effects, like?in KORG Triton synthesizers.
Also?in that soundcard i want flash memory chips that i can load?Soundfonts and Samples?and after PC restart or Shut Down the sounds will stay in memory of the soundcard and remembered perfectly with the effects settings after Log on back to Windows.
That capabilities will be so special for musicians?and the sound will be so professional.

I have this problem only when using mic in?ventrilo. If you want to get rid of this problem you need to disable sound enchantements? in sound settings and then its fine, however you lose CMSS-3D with it. But its funny tho, if you disable CMSS-3D in Creative Control Panel you still get this issue, it only works if sound enchantements are disabled in windows sound settings.

  • Cannot play .avi files from USB Flash Memory UHYB-064GH

    Hi,
I have recently bought a 64gb Toshiba Flash Memory Drive (Stick). It's model UHYB-064GH.
Straight out of the box I plugged the USB drive into my Windows PC.
    I'm running Windows Vista.
I tried to transfer a number of .avi video files to the device, taking up about 10gb of space.
I tried running the files (using VLC player) straight from the flash drive. Most of the files wouldn't play.
Only one did but it only played the first 8 seconds of a near 2 hour film.
The counter in the corner only showed the film to be 8 seconds long?!
However the properties section of the file confirmed it was a 1.6gb, 2 hour film...?
I transferred the same video files to a different (old) drive I have and found that it worked fine.
The drive is a FAT32 one.
I don't really know much about these things so would be grateful for any advice
    Tom

Try to format the USB flash memory in NTFS format.
The FAT file format supports files up to 4GB but the NTFS format supports bigger sizes.

  • Flash-based MP3 player with specified frequency respon

I'm looking into buying a flash-memory based MP3 player. I'm trying to get a quality player that has linear audio output. I am usually listening to Baroque music, both from CDs and from my own recordings. Here are my detailed requirements:
    - USB 2.0 hi-speed
    - flash memory
    - powered by standard batteries (AAA or AA)
    - specified frequency response, S/N ratio and THD
For example, on the Zen Nano Plus specifications web page, I read
    - Signal to Noise Ratio: up to 90dB
    - Frequency Response: 20Hz to 20kHz
    - Harmonic Response Output: 0.%
This appears quite weasel-wordy. For example, a S/N ratio of "up to" something says nothing ("I am up to 00 years old"), reasonable wording would be "S/N ratio of at least x dB". The frequency response does not specify the attenuation over the given frequency range, -30dB at 20Hz would not be ruled out. I prefer frequency response charts that show the function "attenuation (dB) over frequency on log scale". For example, those are readily available for many headphones and all reasonable microphones. Further, I can only guess that "Harmonic Response output" means THD. Moreover, there is no data for stereo separation/crosstalk.
Since these data points relate to the headphones output of the MP3 player, measuring them is fairly easy, since no actual sound waves are produced.
Has anyone measured any of the Creative flash products and can post the respecti've charts and data?

    Thank you for your answers.
Yes, I'm technically minded (I'm German, in case you think that explains it :-) I just posted hoping for the off-chance that someone was curious enough to have performed some real measurements.
The idea for generating the WAV file would be NOT to try to record a real oscillator, but instead create the WAV file with a PC audio editor where you can say "give me a kHz tone for 0 seconds". You would do this on a log scale from, say 20 Hz to 20 kHz, save as WAV, move the resulting file to the MP3 player, play it, and check the output levels for each frequency. Calculating THD is probably more ambitious, but if your 'scope shows some frequency skew, that would probably be interesting, too. I don't know whether a traditional 'scope has enough amplitude resolution to deal with 90 dB S/N ratio (that's a factor of 30000 between signal and noise floor).
    I don't think I can attach files

  • Exporting Music From iTunes To Flash/Memory Stick

So I did a search and the most relevant thread I could find is this one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5923574&#5923574
Basically I'm going on a road trip with a friend who has a stereo head unit with a USB port, so you can plug in flash/memory sticks/cards (I'm spacing on the true terminology here). He asked if I bring along some tunes.
So I have a 2 gig stick that I want to load up.
Is it as easy as that thread above says? Make sure the tunes are in mp3 format, highlight, copy then paste?
Or is there an easier/better way to do this?
    Thanks in advanced.
    MM

If the stereo will play AAC, you can do that.
If it only accepts MP3, you will need to convert them.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing.
    Set it to MP3.
Create a new playlist and add all the songs you want to convert.
    Select all the songs.
Go to menu Advanced -> Convert selection to MP3.
When it's done, delete the playlist you just created.
    Create a new Smart playlist;
    Match rule;
    Date created is today
    Kind contains MPEG Audio
This should show everything you just converted.
Select all the songs and drag to the flash drive.

  • USB Flash Memory

I have an older (5 years old) iBook G3 (366) with a single USB port that I presume is a 1.1 USB, not the 2.0 version, but I can't find anything that tells what version it is. I am running OS 10.3.2.
Can I use the small USB 2.0 flash memory drives with this iBook? The reason I want to use one is that I just got a VRFM8 FM Modulator so that I can play my iPod through the car stereo. This modulator has a plug for a flash memory drive and allows you to play songs directly from the flash drive once songs are converted from the iPod/iTunes mpeg-4 files to mp3 files.
If I can use the drives, the modulator instructions indicate that the drive must be formatted using FAT or FAT 32. Is that compatible with OS 10.3.2?
Also, if I can use the flash drive, any suggestions for the best program to convert mpeg-4 to mp3 files?
    Thanks.
    Carol
    iBook G3 366 Mac OS X (10.3.2)

    1. Your USB port is USB 1.1.
    2. FAT32 disks are compatible with Mac OS X.
    3. You can use iTunes to convert the music; the procedure is identical in iTunes 6.0.

  • How can I use my Zen Xtra like a flash memory

Hello, I want to know how can I use my MP3 player like a flash memory.
I have one and if I conect it with other computers I can't transfer documents and with a flash memory I conect it in all the computers with Windows XP and all of they detect the flash memory and they can transfer documents.
With my Zen Xtra I connect it and the computer detects it but I can't transfer anything because the computer doesn't have the software.
My question is.. Do I have to install the software in all the computers that I use ? or there are other forms to conects PC and MP3 Player? ( I want to transfer documents like text, image, etc)

But some MP3 players do that, why this one can't be connected with all the computers ?

How can I make an mp3 play automatically in one Scene (NO buttons)? I have been searching the net for answers for over 10 hours with no answer... My movie will not be for the web, it needs to be portable (CD or flash drive)...
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
    thank you!

You just need to look in Help for the Sound class and possibly SoundChannel... if you have an MP3 in your library - right click it, and go to properties. Set the sound to export for ActionScript - and give it a class name - mySound will work. Then you can make it play with something as simple as:
    var a:SoundChannel = new mySound().play();
