Criteria or points to consider while deciding storage locations

Hi buddies,
We are implementing SAP in steel industry, can anyone let me know wht is the criteria or points to consider while deciding storage locations and what should be an ideal naming convention for storage locations.
Regards,
Sachin Narvekar

It is also depends on the business requirement .If the existing system does not follow any logic then you can use as below
1. You can create material type wise storage location
Raw material Sto loc - 1001
   Packing material        -  2001
   SFG                           -  3001
    Trading goods          - 4001
    FG godds                -  0001
advantage of this approach is stock reports ,inventory documents can be created at storage location level and easy to track material and logicaly correct.
2. Some exceptional cases you have to  use separeate storage location .for example production  return to some blocked storage location

  • Shipping point in STO defined upon storage location

    Hello, all
On stock transport order I want to set up shipping point in a way that it is determined regarding to storage location I have entered in header of STO.
Storage location is saved in field EKKO-ZZLGORT (tab Customer data). Now I need solution how to determine or overwrite shipping point when entering items.
    For example:
. if storage location is 100, shipping point should be AAAA
. if storage location is 200, shipping point should be BBBB
I know that shipping point is determined according to combination of Plant-Shipping conditions-Loading group. And it works this way now.
Is it possible to do this via customizing ? If user-exit is needed please specify which and what must be modified. I'm not a programmer but I know business process. Will get help of programmer if needed.
I'm looking for this solution because I want to prevent that VL10b puts Stock transport orders with different storage location in header on same delivery.
    Thanx in advance,
    RJ

    Hi,
You should be able to use METHOD if_ex_me_process_po_cust~process_item to change the shipping point. We've created a customer table in which we've set the corresponding plant, SLOC and shipping point combination which is read during execution of the BADI.
You can also use METHOD if_ex_le_shp_delivery_proc~save_document_prepare for changing the shipping point in the delivery.
We've used above for return items. We're on 6.0 as well and for all non return items, standard customizing is available, but not for returns.
    Hope this helps.

  • What are the criterias to consider while deciding when to run the mrp?

    Hello Friends,
Actually i was just thinking,if any company wants to run the mrp for planning than how to decide, when to run the mrp(daily, weekly, monthly).
One of the factor, while deciding this could be the raw material procurements, right?if they procure raw material once in a month than they should run the mrp once in a month.(even we can control this by keeping monthly lot size,if you run the mrp every week).
What could be the other reasons?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Jitendra Chauhan

    Dear Jitendra,
As said by our other forum friends it depends on the business requirement.
In one of my project as the client were recieving monthly plan for their production MRP was carried out monthly.
It can be based on the production plan or say sometimes the maximum lead time for producing a product.

  • Erorr while changing storage location in VL02N

    Guyz,
Firstly despite the plant+storage location + warehouse no. assignments are done , my replenishment delivery (delivery for stock transport order between plants under same company code) is not picking up storage location and warehouse no and thus stopping me from doing picking and PGI (post goods issue).
However in VL02N when i'm trying to change storage location for line item, i'm getting following weird error
    *Error while determining ref.mov.type for WM via Table 156S: 647/ / / /L/ /*
I found a SAP Note(133223) regarding this error and VL02 transaction but that note was specific to older versions. I'm on ECC 6.0
    Any suggestions please ?
    Thanks

soumya - I did assign the picking location for my combination. However I noted, if i do this bit, i'm not able to create replenishment delivery from vl10b and erroring with below error. If i remove this assignment, i am able to create the delivery but delivery does not have storage loation. when i tried to change the storage loation in vl02n, i'm getting same below error ...
      Error while determining ref.mov.type for WM via Table 156S: 647/ / / /L/ /
Sivanand - Wheni do transfer order, its complaining that storage location is empty when i try to change storage location, as mentioned above, i 'm getting above error....
    appreciate any inputs ....
I DID CREATE THE 647 MOVEMENT TYPE ASWELL BUT I'M GETTING SAME ERROR ... Can anyone suggest what control information should go when creating 647 mvt type.....?

  • Shipping point 01 loading group plant storage location not defined.

    Hi All,
I have a unique problem where iam getting the above error when sales order is created using incomplete log.
I have checked all the settings related to Shipping point
in OVL2  Shipping point are assigned,
in OVL3 picking location is also assigned.
I have been searching entire SDN and help.sap.com for the above error for last three days and post a new thread.
    Please help, points rewards.
    Regards,
    Vinod.

    Dear Vinod
First of all I am really happy that you have taken the trouble to find out a solution to your problem and since you were not able to get it, you had posted a new thread.  Of late, this is very rare people searching the forum b4 posting.
Coming to your problem, go to customer master Sales Area tab and see in Shipping tab, what Shipping Condition is maintained.  Ensure that the same is maintained in OVL2.
Similarly, the same for Loading Group.  Normally, by oversight, people commit mistakes by maintaining differently which is not assigned in masters and this would have missed your attention.  For example, you would have assigned 01 in customer master and in OVL2, you would have maintained 03.
Also, please ensure that in OVXC, you have assigned shipping point to your plant.
    thanks

  • Points to consider while migrating from MOSS to SP2013

we r migrating from SP 2007 to SP 2013. my job is to find is there any customization in the site which is to be migrated.
we have some sites and hundreds of subsites. i m currently checking the pages. it doesnt have that much customization. most of the pages have images in content editor webparts and image webparts . some images are uploaded from picture library some are in
    the _layout folders.'
my question is if we migrate them what things need to be considered, what modifications need to be done in SP2013 while migrating. will the images be a problem which i dont think is a big concern . and as i said there is not much customization just some random
    images in webparts

How are you planning to do the migration ? Are you going to make use of any third party tools ?
Have a look at the following links for pointers.

  • STO- delivery document not commiting materials from storage location.

While creating an STO PO and delivery to move a material from a storage location in Plant 0003 (plant 0003 consists of 30 storage locations and 3 Shipping Points (1 for each of the Depots)), we are facing 0 stock issue.
We can change the Shipping Point in the STO PO to the Depot the material is coming from but no place to identify the Storage Location from which we are pulling.
The STO PO commits the material and provides a commit date.
We are using VL10B to create the Delivery > the Delivery fails and the log says "440000 0010 Only 0 EA of material 772-8760-876 available".  There is material in 3 different Storage Locations in that Plant.
Does a delivery document consider shipping point only and not the storage location (sloc) inventory?
Do we need sloc-shipping point tie-up one to one?
We have inventory in both Storage Locations for MRP and for NO MRP.
Any advice, not sure if we are missing anything in config!
    Thnx!
    Points will be rewarded.

    Check the following in OPJJ
The checking rule(for delivery it is B in std SAP) and avaiability check(from material master) combination
in the storage loc check sub screen
NO storage loc inspection  check box is activated or not?
If it is not activated then system will check as per storage loc specified in delicvery, if activated, then system will check and give commitent at plant level
    One more check is
In table TVKOL, is the storage loc is determined through shipping point/plant/stog condition combination?
IS so this storage loc is taken for checking

  • MRP for storage locations

    Hi,
One ROH material is extended to 2 storage locations (A,B). ROH is a BOM component for 2 intermediates.
ROH Storage location A - Material Master
    ROH Storage location B
Each tank cannot go less than 10 tonns and cannot exceed more than 50 tonns
    Re order point 25 tonns.
Order lot size is 35 tonns.
MRP will consider only one storage location A during requirements generation, becuase material master updated with storage location A only.
My requirement like MRP should consider the both storage locations during MRP run and generate the requirements as per the re order point for inventory.
    Regards,
    LV

    Hello
I suggest you to use MRP areas to plan each storage location separately.
With MRP areas you can define different MRP parameters for each storage location and they can be planned independently.

  • Availibility check at Storage location level

    Dear all,
we have implemented inventory management ( not wm and lean wm ) , my business scenerio is when i am creating the STO the availibility check is carried out which is considering all the storage locations of supplying site
    e.g  SL01 - Unrestritrd Use
           SL02 - Damage
           SL03 - Resrved
My client requiremnt is when availibility check should carried out it should conside only one storage location i.e SL01 - Unrestricted use stock and should not considere Stock of other storage location except SL01.
What configuration need to be done

  • Storage Location in PR

    Hi,
While creating PR, the storage location for some materials are coming automatically and for some materials the storage location is not coming (while the storage location is available in material master).   Any idea about this?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Suppose if the material is assigned/extended for one storge loc in material master system gives that storage loc in PR but the same material is extended for the many storage loc in material master then system allow for the user to select.

  • How storage location should assign automatically in confirmation-goods

    Dear Gurus,
When I confirming first operation then click Goods movement screen there is one column to be filled storage location. My points is that how that storage location should automatically assign to that screen as per material master settings.
    Thanks
    Alok

    Hi Alok Kumar,
As MARIO said there are number of ways are as he said. If it is a production storage location
    1) In MRP4 view you can maintain then it will be carried out through out the process till the goods receipt.
    2) If you haven't maintained in the MRP4 view then go to Production Order go to Components you can assign there these two are the most important fields for production it will be carried to Conformation Order go to Goods Movement----there you can find the Storage location OK.
I hope it will help, any questions, please pop me again.

  • User Exit for Storage location in VA02

    Hi All,
Is there any user exit or enhancement point to automatically store the Storage Location (LGORT) when a new line item is added with material in a sales document.
E.G When an item is entered manually and its material is also added, then is it possible to fetch the materials storage location (in the material -> Shipping tab -> Storage location) without manually entering the Storage location which happens in the usual process.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to Storage Location in PPOMA

    Hi SRM experts,
I'm working on SRM7.0 and have the following issue:
    Tcode: PPOMA_BBP
    Tab: Extended Attributes
    Radio button: Storage Locations
I am able to select my R/3 backend system from drop down but unable find any entries for Storage Locations i.e. when I press F4 in filed stor.location, message "No values found" is displayed.
If I enter the Storage Locations manually (which I have created in R/3) and press enter, message "No storage location assigned to value, Message no. BBP_ATTR017" is dispalyed.
Additional info: I have successfully replicated locations (i.e. Plants) from R/3 and able to view the list of Plants from F4 help in the radio button Locations. Due to this, I'm finding an error "Application "Confirmation": Define the attribute LAG" for an user in PPOMA & unable to create any shopping cart.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Hari

    Hi,
To update the location from ECC you need run the report
    BBP_ATTR_TEXT_REFRESH. Please do the following:
    Go to transaction SE38 -> Enter BBP_ATTR_TEXT_REFRESH -> Execute (F8)
-> Enter 'Attribute'-'LAG', "your backend system" and EN
-> Run the report (make sure the test mode option is deflagged)
    -> Select all -> Refresh,
this updates the descriptions from the backend.
If this not solve the issue, please check in your backend system if
the note 1175255 is applied. If not, please apply it.
After performing above mentioned steps - go PPOMA_BBP while adding storage locations under Ext attributes tab:
    1. Input your 'Source System' and select applicable 'Storage location' from the dropdown list and do not key in manually.
Hope this should resolve your issue.

  • RLM MRP execution at storage location

    Hello Friends,
Need help - I am configuring RLM with MRP - need help with below:
Requirement: I need to run MRP at the main storage location first (requirement is from Plant Maint order), followed by another MRP run at secondary storage locations. I want to deplete stock in the main storage location before using up stock at secondary storage locations.
This is not for re-order point planning (VB) for both storage locations, I know that I can plan MRP separately at storage location levels, but that only works with re-order point replenishment.
Is MRP area configuration my only option?
If possible I want to avoid MRP area configuration - I hear once it is configured we can revert back!

    Hi Joe,
As per your client requirement, you need to run MRP at Main storage location, and want to avoid performing at storage location, here you can define the supply chain derivation via plant Mainteniance order by using using item category and transport requistion in RLM Configuration. you have option to select the order type order type item category  ( ), item category change rule ...( newer change item category) & direct prourement type ( SAP Std ).
Yes MRP Area is the only option, the MRP first as plant level is the option, check in setting ie Step-3 Supply process derivation via plant ( supply type PD).
The parameters for the RLM Supply Process are a combination of the following:
    · Material requirements planning (MRP) type at the requesting plant or storage location (the plant making the request for materials)
    · MRP type at the supplying plant or storage location (the plant or storage location supplying the material)
    · Special procurement type at the demanding plant or storage location.

  • Stock not consumned from own storage location

    Hi all
Scenario is make to order scenario
I have stock of raw material in my own storage location
but at a time of planned order is converted to production order error comes raw material shortage it means finish material ordered not consider my own stock, i want to consume my own stock for finished material production but its not happened what setting can i do for this
    pl help me
    Regards
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,
It doesn't mean that that it doesn't consider your storage location stock. There may be some other problem are also there.
    Do following checks.
    - Check in Order. In Material Screen for that component Account Assignment is set (E).If yes then System will consider only Sales Order stock for Material Availability. This is due to In MRP 4 view of Material Master requirement type is set as Individual Requirement.Change it to Collective.
    - Also Check in T.code OPJJ.
Check box for NO Storage Location should be Inactive. in this case system will consider All the storage location for material Availability.

    Dhaval
