Crop and Mask in Adobe Premiere Elements 11

In Premiere Elements 11, when I add a mask to blur an area of the video, the cropping that I applied to remove a band at the top and at the bottom of the video does not work anymore ???
I tried to change the order of the applied effects but it does not change anything.
Any help appreciated.

I am not quite sure what I did the other day to get everything to fall into place. Today, nothing was as it was then That was the bad news. The good news (of sorts) was the intriguing revelations that evolved.
I followed your workflow to step 6. I think that you had a typo in that you had "two bottoms" but of no real consequence to the issue at hand.
Step 7 issue ("can't add Effects Mask") was a non issue if you clicked on the Timeline video prior to clicking on Clip Menu/Effects Mask/Apply.
When the Effects Mask is applied by clicking on that Apply, what looks like a duplicate of the Timeline Video 1 content appears on the track directly above the original on Video 1. At this point the previously cropped area in Video 1 content reappears, giving the impression that no cropping of the file was ever done.
1. It looks like what appears on Video 2 traces back to the original on the hard drive not the file that is below it on Video 1, except for the content of the Effects Mask area. More explanation on how I concluded that if necessary. Good enough explanation for the cropped areas getting filled in. But, there is more...
2. If you isolate (ungroup) the top from bottom components here, the top has Crop Panel, Fast Blur, et al in its Applied Effects Panel. Any additional cropping there crops only the Effects Mask. The bottom's Applied Effects Panel has just the routine Motion and Opacity Panel. If you look at the isolated top and bottom, the top presents with the Effects Mask shape with snapshot of area of original that it was supposed to be Effects Masking, and this snapshot is surrounded by black representintg transparency. The bottom presents as the original as seen in Project Assets.
3. If this all started out with the original dragged to the Timeline from Project Assets and then an effect such as the "New Blue Cartoonr Plus Elements" applied to the original, followed by Crop and Fast Blur, the same thing would happen. But in this set of circumstances, the "New Blue Cartoonr Plus Elements" panel would end up in the Applied Effects Panel for the top component along with Crop and Fast Blur.
Lots more to sort out, but for your specific situation, you might consider:
1. Video on Video 1.
2. Apply the Effects Mask for Fast Blur or your choice of Effect.
3. Right click what is the now linked top and bottom components of this task, and select Ungroup.
4. Drag the top to the right, out of the way for the moment.
5. Crop the Video 1 content.
6. Drag the top back into place above the Video 1 content.
7. Highlight both at the same time, right click the highlight, select Group OR leave ungrouped if want that way.
Please review and see if you confirm my exploration into this today.
Thanks.

  • Zoom and Pan for Adobe Premiere Elements 12?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 12. I would like to zoom and pan into a video, but without that slow zoom in/out effect. Basically, I want it like a quick cut close up then back to the original size. I've been trying but nothing seems to work. There's that slow zoom in/out every time I try to get a quick cut in and a quick cut out. Does anyone have any ideas to get this? Thanks

Please check into the details of the Premiere Elements 12 Pan and Zoom Tool. I think that you may be overlooking your opportunities for what you want with that tool, namely, the "Hold" set and the "Pan Time" set and combination there of.
    Please see

Please review and consider and then we can discuss this further if necessary.

Thanks for the additional information and background on your Premiere Elements projects.
Here are my suggestions for you to consider when you revisit Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8 64 bit.
    a. Music. Actually take your iTunes music into iTunes to convert them to .wav version. And, then import the .wav version
    into the Premiere Elements project.
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
    b. If you have a 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 source at 29.97 interlaced frames per second, then you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset to
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    HD1080i30
However, when you go to export the Timeline content, then you select an export choice which uses 1920 x 1080 16:9, not 1440 x 1080 which depends on a 16:9 flag to stretch the 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 for display after encoding.
    Consider
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with preset M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i30 or MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
The missing ingredients in this include frame rate of the original and frame rate for export. Also NTSC or PAL. I have assumed NTSC for now. Curious about the settings used in Premiere Elements 13 tryout on Windows 7 64 bit that you used for comparison to the Windows 8 64 bit results.
    Looking forward to your results.

How long ago did you purchase Premiere Elements 12? If it is within the last 30 days, you might be eligible for a free move to version 13. You need to contact Adobe via its Adobe Chat to discuss that as soon as possible if that is something of interest to you. There may be some debate about the way to make contact, but, if you purchased from Adobe direct as an online download, I would contact Adobe Chat by clicking on the following and following through with Chat Panel.

If you stay with 12, then there are several areas to pursue
    1. Can you open the program by going to the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file, right clicking it and selecting Run As Administrator, and then double clicking the .exe in an attempt to open the program direct to the editor?

    2. If you create a new User Account with Administrative Privileges and install and run Premiere Elements 12 from there, does the program open?
    3. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?

  • "Adobe Premiere Elements 13 has stopped working"

I got a copy of Premiere Elements 13 on "Black Friday" (one month ago).  I am using stabilization and sometimes get "Adobe Premiere Elements 13 has stopped working".  I have been guessing at the problem and run several experiments - one being; stabilize a clip in it's own project and create an MP4 to use in the final project.  The latest clip seems to render fine, but crashes on playback (sometimes this happened on version 12 but not so consistently and often.  I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, with 6GB RAM, 3.30GHz, Intel Core i3 - 4 core processor.  I use two monitors with the built-in video hardware.  Rendering max's out all four cores while stabilization taxes the RAM.  Where can I look to find out more details about this problem (only guessing with anything less)?  Thanks for the help.

    Ray
Thanks for the reply with further details and results.
The generalization is that you (manually) or the project (automatically) sets the project preset to match the properties of the source media.
But, if you have more than one format to import, you can still import that "atypical" format into the project (a project cannot have more than one project preset). But, the Shake Stabilizer will not stabilize it since it's properties do not match the description of the project preset. You can easily understand this by looking at the description of the project preset that has been set for the project and comparing it with specification of your video source. But, I have not yet found that such a situation creates a project/program "stopped working" as in shutting down the project/program.
I suspect a major factor when you run into a Shake Stabilized induced project/program shutdown is computer resource demands of the feature for the video which is requiring the stabilization. And, I have found that the stabilization times can be long.
Consequently, if the Shake Stabilizer does not cause the project/program to shutdown when asked to stabilize a video clip (without other effects). I am very guarded in the outcome, especially stabilization times, when the Shake Stabilizer is asked to stabilize a video clip to which other effects have already been applied.
We will looking forward to your results.
    Thank you.

  • Projects settings for AVCHD MTS files in Adobe Premiere Elements 8

    Hello,
I have read several discussions already, about importing AVCHD MTS file in Adobe Elements (version 8), but I'm also confused a littlebit, so I would like to confirm if I'm correct.
FYI, I have a Canon Legria HFR26 camera and am using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 (with the latest updates installed).
According to the specs in the Canon instruction manual:
Videos are recorded in high definition using AVCHD specifications
    (MPEG-4/H.264 compression).
    Audio compression: Dolby Digital 2ch
The camera supports making video's in different format, but I have done it in the default SP format, which results in a resolution of 1440x1080 (50 fields per second, interlaced).
I have copied the video from the camera to my harddisk, and Windows also mentions the video's as AVCHD of 1440x1080 (Bitrate 7672kbps).
The frame rate is 25 frames/second. I assume this is correct for 50i?
So, when I import my video's into Adobe Elements 8, I select the following projects settings:
    PAL, AVCHD, HD 1080i 25
Because the description matches my video files:
    - For editing with 1440x1080i AVCHD camcorders.
    - 16:9 interlaced HD video at 25 frames per second.
    - 48kHz audio.
The video's are imported correctly and I can play them. However, as soon as I drop a video on the timeline, Adobe immediately starts background rendering the video (a red line appears on the timeline).
What I understand from some discussions, is that this shouldn't happen, because the video format doesn't match the project settings. On the other hand, I have also read that for Adobe Elements 8 this is normal behaviour and it always start background rendering AVCHD video's.
Is this expected behaviour or should I chance my projects settings or maybe even convert my video files to a different format?
    Thanks,
    Michiel

The ability to work natively with AVCHD files was not added until version 10, Michiel. So you'll still have to render while you work in version 8.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 9 Effects

I have and am using Adobe Premiere Elements 9. I want to use certain effects in my videos, but don't want them there throughout the whole course of the video. I just want them there at certain point's in the video. I am not sure how to do this and cannot find any information on it. How do I do this?

The Keyframe route is the one that I use most often, but some Effects are not Keyframable. In that case, there is an easy way to address the placement of an Effect on just one segment of a Clip.
Say that you have a Clip that runs from 00;00;00;00 to 00;10;00;00, but only want an Effect from 00;05;00;00 to 00;07;00;00 - so it will ONLY be there for 02 minutes. Place the CTI (Current Time Indicator w/ the red Edit Line) at 00;05;00;00, and hit Ctrl-K (or use the Scissors/Razor Tool) to Cut that Clip. Now, move the CTI to 00;07;00;00, and repeat. one now has a 02 min. Clip created from that "master Clip." Apply the Effect to that 02 min. segment (let's call it a Sub-Clip for this discussion, but there are other meanings for the term Sub-Clip.) Since this Effect was one that we could not Keyframe (in our example), right now, one would jump from having no Effect to having the full Effect. Might be OK, but probably not. Just add a Cross-Dissolve where you made those Cuts, and the Effect will Dissolve in, then Dissolve out.
Good luck, and where possible, do use the Keyframes, as they offer so much more control - just remember that that will not always be possible. The above method is sort of the "poor-man's Keyframing."

  • Can't start Adobe Premiere Elements 13 video editor.

It says: "Adobe Premiere Elements 13 has stopped working" without additional details. It doesn't close, it is not frozen, but it does not work.
I tried Adobe Premiere Elements 12 (trial version) which had no problem at all on my PC. I'm using the 64 bit version on Windows 7. I've tried to re-start the pc, to uninstall PRE 12, but this does not work. I have access to the Organizer though. Has anyone manages to get PRE 13 installed?

    Thanks for your follow ups.
Let us focus on Premiere Elements 13 Windows 7 64 bit computer.
Let go through the usual drill questions...
    a. Does problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled? Is your antivirus program McAfee?
    b. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and have also selected and applied Run
As Administrator to the desktop icon of the program?
    c. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer.
    d. Can you open the program using the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file instead of the Adobe Premiere Elements 13.exe?
See Local Disk C\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 13\
    Please consider
    a. Go to Control Panel/Programs and assure that Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and 13 are not showing as installed programs.
    If they are, uninstall.
    b. Do a free ccleaner run through (regular and registry parts) to get rid of any leftovers from incomplete installs or uninstalls.
    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
    c. Reinstall Premiere Elements 13 with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

What computer operating system was your Premiere Elements 8 running on?
    For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit?
If you go to Control Panel/Programs is your program listed there as an installed program? If not, that does not ALWAYS
mean that it is not installed. So, please follow the path...
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0
and, in the Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 Folder, look for two files
    a. Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe (double clicking this one should open the program to the Welcome Screen)
    and
    b. Adobe Premiere Elements.exe (double clicking this one should open the program, bypassing the Welcome Screen)
Can you open the program from either of these files? If so, you can create desktop icons for these files by right clicking the file,
selection Send to, followed by Desktop (Create Shortcut).
    Please confirm the above information.
Your serial number should be at Adobe http:/www.adobe.com. And, when signed in there, you should be able to go to "My Products" and
find the same of your product and its serial number (by clicking on the product name). To get new download files if the original purchased
was from Adobe, then Adobe http://www.adobe.come. And, when signed in there, you should be able to go to "My Orders" for
    download of the new files.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 hangs while exporting and during peak file generation.

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 (PRE7). I have a project which is using a single clip from a Mini-DV that was captured with Nero 8. Nero 8 was used because it was captured prior to installing PRE7. The file is 12GB and is on a USB disk drive because I don't have the space on my main hard drive (I have about 11GB free). My project doesn't do too much that's fancy. It merely uses about 20 minutes of the 60 minute Mini-DV captured AVI, and it uses simple transitions between each scene. I also have very simple titles at start and end. No themes or anything else.
I've seen two problems. 1) While editing the project, seemingly (but I'm not positive it's related) while the peek file was being generated, PRE7 would get into a state of using about 40% to 50% CPU, and it would not let me do anything else. The other problem, 2) While using "Share" to export the video to WMA for playback on PC (about 180MB estimated file size according to Adobe), the file is exported to about the last remaining 5 seconds, but then PRE7 goes into that mode of hanging with 40% to 50% CPU usage.
One time when it had this 50% CPU issue, I let it sit overnight, and the export was finished in the morning. The export that time was to a 90MB FLV for posting to the "web" according to the Share wizard. But when I was doing the above (issue #2), it went into the 50% CPU usage but didn't finish after waiting around 2 hours. Even if I were to let it sit that time, and it were to finish, it seems like something's wrong and that this is unacceptable.
When this happens, and PRE7 goes into 50% CPU utilization, there is no pacifier or percentage bar advancing. It usually happens near 100% finished. Only one time did it complete successfully after leaving it unattended at 90% complete for an extraordinary amount of time.
    To recap:
    C:\ hard drive ---> PRE7, my project.
E:\ USB drive ---> 12GB source AVI file and destination for export.
I saw elsewhere on this forum that someone imported a mini-dv captured AVI into Window Movie Maker and then exported it to Mini-DV from that app. This solved that person's problem with hanging during peak file creation. I had the 50% hang issue during peak file generation but I'm not sure it was related to peak file generation. A peak file was generated in a project which, when exported with share as mentioned above, still did the hang 50% CPU issue. Regardless, I will try the import/export/movemaker thing and report back but I've been trying enough things that I wanted to take a second to ask for assistance.
Does anyone have this issue, and is there a patch or fix?
I might be able to provide a user mode dump of the 50% CPU adobe process. There is some call stack information and I'm wondering if developers would want this info if they don't already have a solution/fix to this bug.
    Thanks for any help.

I have some more info on the hang which I've been experiencing during export/share of a project which uses an AVI as its one main clip. Adobe Premiere Elements 7 (PRE7) appears to be hanging because it's looping endlessly in ImporterAVI.prm. I'm wondering if this info can be passed onto Adobe developers and/or if I can submit this information elsewhere for such processing. I also have a process dump file which might be helpful, not to mention the original project files.
I used Process Monitor to help analyze this situation, and prior to PRE7 getting into the endless loop, it appears to be reading from the AVI file little by little, and WMEncodingHelper.exe is writing out little by little to the destination file, both of which I would expect. When PRE7 gets to the end of the import/export, Process Monitor appears to show all the aforementioned disk activity ceasing. I see neither process reading or writing. This would be normal if the share/export procedure had completed. But PRE7 is not complete. It is hung and is operating at 50% CPU utilization.
Far below in this post are technical details which may be helpful to an Adobe developer determine why the importer could get into this endless loop. In those details, there is a jump instruction, "jb ImporterAVI!xImportEntry+0xf32", which will always jump if a particular compare always turns out a certain way. But in my review of the counters being compared, it never will get to a point of exiting. When I modify a flag (the carry flag) to be 0, the loop exits. When I did this, my export/share of my project completed successfully. So it was done, but for some reason, PRE7 was looping and looping in its AVI importor instead of completing the export (aka "Share").
I cannot say that this certainly indicates a bug with PRE7, but it seems to me that there's enough data for Adobe to be at least investigating this particular issue. I'm not the only person who has seen this as there was at least one other message describing the same problem which the user resolved by effectively re-creating the AVI file via a no-op import/export into and out of MovieMaker. My AVI also goes through MovieMaker, import/export, without a hitch.
In a sense, I view PRE7's "share" as essentially an import, processing of imported information (i.e., effects and transitions), and an export. It's an import of all clips into the project at the right times, a processing of all effects, and finally an export to a destination. I realize this is simplistic, but the point I'm making is I have a simple project with a single AVI, and it appears that the "import" portion of PRE7's Share option is choking on the only clip used by this project. I also don't have much but simple transitions and a beginning/ending title on the project, so I'm not thinking this use of PRE7 is much more than what I'm doing with MovieMaker when importing/exporting this AVI.
I fully agree that optimum hardware can be either required or critical for certain types of video editing, but PRE7 is a consumer program and I'm not using anything extensive about it and the symptoms are that PRE7 is looping on its import of a file other programs don't have a problem with. I already tried purchasing a 1TB external, which I'm glad I did, but I really think Adobe developers should look at this issue. There may be a problem with handling certain AVI clips used in a project when those clips come from certain sources. If there is an issue, perhaps it could warrant a fix that would make PRE7 more compatible with these other clips.
Does Adobe have a procedure for people to upload (or mail) projects and files to it so that they can troubleshoot why the importer gets into this state? I also mentioned earlier that I have a full user-mode dump of the process which may be of value to a dev. Can I submit this information anywhere?
    Here are textual technical details:
    Plug-in which loops: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\Plug-ins\en_US\ImporterAVI.prm
The following are the instructions at the "bottom" of the loop which never ends. Below, I put "***" at the jump instruction I mentioned earler. If I force the carry flag to be 0 at that point, and the jump is skipped, the export completed successfully. Additionally, notice that [esp-0x1c] is 0x2000, and that both eax and edi are 0. When I see it loop, eax stays at 0 and never reaches 0x2000. I wonder if something about the AVI is causing values used by this importer to be such that it causes this endless loop, and if that's the case, and if such values are valid/good, I'm wondering if the importer can be fixed by being able to detect such values so as to not choke (if in fact it's an importer issue).

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 11 and AAMEE on Mac

I am trying to distribute Adobe Premiere Elements 11 serialized on a Mac and when I attempt to do this via AAMEE 3.1.X, I receive a message that the media is not recognized. Can Adobe Premiere Elements 11 be distributed in this fashion?
    Thanks

Yes, you can package PSE/PRE 11 using AAMEE but not 3.1 version. You need to use AAMEE 2.1 to do so. Check the below link, it should give what you need here.

Sometimes the Adobe servers used for the updates can get busy and it’s necessary to try a couple of times. Also make sure you don’t have a firewall which may be blocking the connection. It sometimes helps to temporarily disable internet security/anti-virus software. Because the Organizer is shared by both programs it often helps to do the PSE update first, followed by the PRE update in that order.
Select the 12.1 update for PSE from the updater dialog and ensure everything else is unchecked.  Quit PSE and PRE if you have it running and then start the update.
If PSE updates properly to 12.1 repeat the process for PRE.
