Cross Subnet Netboot Issues

Hello,
I've been working to set up a netboot and Open Directory server in school district. We have the network segmented into VLANs by campus with different subnets for each. The changes have been made to the router to allow bootp/bsdp (IPHelper address set and relay agent on) to communicate across subnets, but I am still unable to netboot/netinstall across subnets.
Watching the logs on the server when I attempt to, it seems to be communicating partially as seen here:
Jul 19 12:48:37 axposeidon bootpd[1822]: BSDP DISCOVER [en1] 1,0:16:cb:8e:50:a6 NetBoot035 arch=i386 sysid=MacBookPro1,1
Jul 19 12:48:37 axposeidon bootpd[1822]: BSDP OFFER sent [1,0:16:cb:8e:50:a6] pktsize 369
Jul 19 12:48:37 axposeidon bootpd[1822]: BSDP DISCOVER [en1] 1,0:16:cb:8e:50:a6 NetBoot035 arch=i386 sysid=MacBookPro1,1
Jul 19 12:48:37 axposeidon bootpd[1822]: BSDP OFFER sent [1,0:16:cb:8e:50:a6] pktsize 369
Unfortunately it fails to actually boot the machine. Im not positive what's going on but it seems like its sending a response back to the netbooting machine but the machine is not getting it and its resending?
The OS X Server is an Intel Xserve running 10.4.10 (though we've been experiencing this issue since as far back as I've been trying with 10.4.8), the image was created in 10.4.8, and works on the local subnet (including multicast ASR). The booting machine is, as noted above, a Macbook Pro.
As a side note, when booted into the OS, the machines can see the server in the Startup Disk preference pane.
Any suggestions or ideas? Let me know if there's more information I can give that will help.

In our district there are multiple public and private subnets. The public and private combination I have the server on currently just happen to be on this physical network, so they are sharing the same router.
I think Im getting a little lost on what you're asking so I'll explain our network structure a little further. The district runs a VLANed network with a different public and private subnet for each campus (the private subnets function mostly as IP address overflow when the public subnet IP limit is exceeded). The network is predominantly PC based and implements active directory servers. The Xserve simply operates as a standalone server currently just handling some web serving tasks and a netboot server.
The issue, regardless of the public and private subnet interfaces on the server, is that I am unable to get anything to boot from another subnet than the one the xserve is running on. If I run it on the public interface, local machines boot perfectly, but I a log like the one above if I try and boot from another campus (ie another VLAN or subnet). To test it locally I've been running it on the private subnet interface (on the same physical network segment) to boot machines on the local public subnet (which fails with the above log).
According to Apple and other sources, all that should need to be configured is our CISCO routers need to be set to pass BOOTP information across VLANs/Subnets, which we have configured (using the IP helper-address and DHCP relay agent), but as stated, the connection is still not succeeding.
I'm checking with our network engineer on a few specifics on how the routers are configured to make sure they are set properly for the forwarding, but he's not available at the moment.
I applogize if this doesnt address the information you're needing, but please let me know if it does not, and I will try my best to get you the needed information.

  • Old Macromedia - Adobe cross platform font issues

This message is more directed to Adobe.
I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype, postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC - many of the styles are not available.
In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC - our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient.
When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?

"I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform
compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign."
No, they are fully cross-platform compatible. The Adobe products you
mention, along with a very few others, are the only applications
capable of taking full advantage of the advanced features available in
some opentype fonts. And even the three products you mention don't all
necessarily support open-type in the same way.
"However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious
cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype,
postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC -
many of the styles are not available."
If you are using the same application version on both platforms, you
should have identical functionality. If you're using an older version
    of Fireworks.
The only cross-platform style issue with TT or T1 fonts is that
Windows doesn't recognize any styles other than Regular, Bold, Italic,
and Bold Italic. Also, there's a font menu difference between MacOS
and Windows. Mac display all available styles, whereas Windows only
displays the family name, and you have to select the variants from
somewhere else (typically "B" "I" "U" buttons). SOME font families
from some vendors use the style function to define such variants as
Small Caps, Light, etc. MS products get ... confused.
"In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC -
our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a
result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient."
If you're using different applications for design and rendering, and
their functionality is different, then you have a cross-application
compatibility issue. You didn't mention what applications or versions
    are involved.
"When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?"
It may be more a Microsoft issue than an Adobe issue. In addition to
the style limitations, There are no MS products that yet support
    open-type features.
Although Adobe personnel do sometimes visit here, this is not a
"talk-to-Adobe' forum. Since your problem is application related, I'd
suggest taking it to the appropriate application forumsFireworks
    General Discussion looks right.
And, as Bob said, you might also contact Adobe support directly with
    your concerns.

  • Boot Server on CD for cross Subnet Jumpstart

I'm looking for a way to do cross subnet jumpstart installs without a boot
server local to the subnet. Is it possible to create a boot server image
on CD similiar to the Jumpstart CD process listed at:
    http://www.sun.com/solutions/blueprints/0301/BuildBoot.pdf and have it
point towards my jumpstart server for config/install?
If forced I will build the custom Jumpstart CD but would prefer to boot
remote systems from CD then point back to my Jumpstart Config/Install
server. Easier for standards with one server then multiple releases of
    CD's floating around.
If anybody has experience with this help would be greatly appreciated. My builds will be 2.8 and soon migrating to 9.
    Thanks!

I did something KINDA like this for Xterms and their boot server. My customer was using Cisco routers. On Ciscos, the IOS config command I used was "ip help-address <IP> or something very similar to that. If I remember correctly, you can also replace IP with a network address in case you needed to move the bootp server around on that network and don't want to continually update the router configuration with the new IP.
Of course, I can't say if this will make a Jumpstart client work. For the Xterms, it worked just fine. Their boot server was 4 networks away - which geographically was about 120 miles away and they booted just fine.

    THX
ps: i'm french and my english is a little bit rusty ...

There is a long thread on this problem over on the Lion forum, I think it was.
Most everyone on that other tread said the newer firmware fixed the NetBoot issue.
If you have installed the most recent firmware and it still isn't working try Re-Intsalling that firmware.
Then try a re-Set of the SMC and PRAM. Not sure if that is needed but won't hurt.

  • LiveCycle ES2, Guides, SSL and IE 8/9 Cross Site Scripting Issue

I have a guide that is being served up in the workspace.
This guide works fine in all of the different browser versions provided they go through port 8080.
If however you enable SSL on your server (port 8443) and serve up the guide in the workspace, the end user can fill the entire form out only to have the browser identify the submit process as a Cross Site Scripting issue.
    This is the result:
The data is essentially lost and guide disappears.  I had a theory that maybe the submit process might be using the default server port for data submissions (8080) and created a customized submit process with the hardcoded targetURL.
I tried to test my theory and got the same result.  I then modified my custom submit process to essentially do nothing (Started and ended the process with an abstract activity), and got the same result.
The only other thing that I could think of, is that the automatically generated action script classes might be hard coded to use default port instead of the SSL port.
    Suggestions?!

You can rise SR for your issue for 5000+ user or you can also can connect wiht your system engineer team for can possible solution as setup IE and deploy it to 5000+ user pcs

  • Is Cross Subnet Failover supported in SQL Server 2012 Standard edition?

    Hi,
I'm trying to find out if Cross Subnet Failover is support in SQL Server 2012 Standard edition? From the documentation I can find it appears that AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances is supported for two nodes but there is no definitive answer regarding Cross
Subnet failover. Just trying to figure out if it is possible or if I need enterprise or move my replication nodes on the same subnet.
    Thanks David

Sorry chaps, found the answer :-(
Licensing SQL Server for High Availability
SQL Server software can be configured so that if one server fails, its processing will be picked up, recovered
and continued by another server. All editions of SQL Server 2012 provide basic high availability features
including backup log shipping, database mirroring and two-node failover clustering. Advanced (AlwaysOn)
high availability features in SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition include enhanced support for multiple, active
(readable) secondary servers and support for multi-site failover clustering.

  • Subnet netboot problem

I have an OS 10.4.8 Xserve running AFP, NFS, & NetBoot services. All DHCP & DNS services are provided by Cisco routers & Dell servers as part of a college-wide network. The client Macs are split across four separate VLANs with the Xserve on one of the four VLANs. Both NICs are enable for NetBoot and I have also enabled the Xserve's DHCP service but with no subnets or static maps set up so that the service is running but not handing out IP addresses. The VLAN routers have an "ip helper" pointing to the ip address of the NetBoot server BUT I can't get any of the client machines on the non-Xserve VLANs to boot when holding down the 'N' key; any machine on the Xserve VLAN will NetBoot consistently. The Open Firmware and Terminal firmware workarounds are successful but I need the 'N' key option to work.
I have seen the Apple kBase document 107655 and am somewhat intrigued by the fact that Apple Tech support will help over the phone IF you have purchased a Server Support contract, which suggests to me that there needs to be some modification to the server configuration, rather than just a simple router config command, to resolve the problem!
Has anybody out there actually received phone support from Apple for this issue and if so would they be happy to pass on the appropriate server (or any other) fix?
Finally I apologise if this issue has been resolved successfully elsewhere on the discussion list but I have spent an awful lot of time trawling a large number of lists for a suitable solution and come up with a blank.

    Leif, thanks for the reply.
Yes I've read & re-read the article (and many more!) and also passed all the info on to my network system administrator who has configured the subnet routers accordingly but without success. I would still like to know what advice or instruction Apple Server phone support would offer but our IT dept can't justify the cost of Server support for this single issue as all other aspects of server configuration are documented fully.
    Thanks,
    Glenn.

  • NetBoot issue

    Hi everybody,
I have some trouble using NetBoot, to boot a computer with a minimal deploystudio netboot image.
When doing a network boot, the client display the netbootserver address. When choosing the netbootserver, the system freeze for a while and then start booting on the local HD.
    I've read http://www.bombich.com/mactips/netboot.html and http://www.macgeekery.com/hacks/hardware/makeany_mac_a_netbootserver,
the tftp server is running and the ./private/tftpboot/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/PPMac-090729-174122.nbi/i386/booter is easily downloadable with a tftp client.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I have near the same issue.
I can netboot find from all subnets except one, and this one subnet will just not allow ppc machines to boot, yet allow intel machines to boot.
I even setup a brand new server running 10.5.0 (to go back versions) on the same subnet and got rid of the helper IP and still cannot boot from ppc... this is very odd.

  • Cross Domain Connection Issues with Test Controller

I am having trouble resolving a problem I have connecting a build agent with the test controller in a cross domain environment.  I have purged out the actual machine names, domain names, and IP addresses just in case that is a security concern.
    Situation is this:
All machines are running Visual Studio 2013
Test controller/agents are on Windows Server 2012 R2
Test controller is installed as stand-alone in order to be able to do load testing, as well as API and CodedUI.
Build definition in TFS kicks off the automation using testsettings file to point to build controller
Application under test uses resources in the ABC.XYZ domain.  Test agents need to be in ABC.XYZ in order to test application E2E.
    TFS is in Main.corp.company.com domain.
Test controller is a dual-homed box in corp.company.com and ABC.XYZ domains.  It are accessible from Main using the corp.company.com NIC.
All our dual homed boxes are set up this way.  Dual homed with Main and ABC directly is considered a security violation.
From the dual homed box, logged in with my ABC credentials, I can access TFS in Main using my Main credentials.
Manually, I can successfully kick off a test run from a command line from a VM in ABC.
Build controller and build agents are in Main.corp.company.com.
Build controller can successfully connect to build agent, and build agent successfully builds the automation.
Build agent fails to connect to build controller:
Failed to queue test run 'buildagent@MachineOne 2014-08-12 12:35:34_Any CPU_Debug': No such host is known
I can ping the build controller from the test agent, and I can successfully query port 6901:
    Querying target system called:
    testcontroller.corp.company.com
Attempting to resolve name to IP address...
    Name resolved to 10.10.10.111
TCP port 6901 (unknown service): LISTENING
Firewall is turned off on the test controller.  Even if it wasn’t, the relevant rules allowing port 6901 and File and Printer Sharing are created.
Local Security Policy | Security Options | Network access: Sharing & security model = classic
NETBIOS names of the test agents and build agent are set in the test controller’s hosts file (they were pingable without this anyway)
NETBIOS name of the test controller is set in the test agent’s hosts file (it was pingable without this anyway)
Tried both simple NETBIOS name and FSDN for test controller in testsettings file
Considering installing a build agent on the same machine as the test controller, but suspect that would just move my communication problem to build controller : build agent
Considering moving test controller to Main and making the four test agents dual-homed, but there is a concern to limit the number of dual-homed boxes, and also suspect that would again just move the communication problem.
I can use netstat to verify that the service is listening to port 6901 on both NICs:
    TCP    0.0.0.0:6901           0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING       6536
    TCP    [::]:6901              [::]:0                 LISTENING
    6536
    (PID 6536 is the QTController.exe)
However the VSTTController.log only mentions listening to the ABC NIC.  Since the connection to the ABC test agents works, that makes sense.
When I open the testsettings file on my laptop in the Main domain and examine the server name, there is a warning that the host cannot be found.  When I open it on a VM in the ABC domain I am able to manage the test controller and view all the test
agents.  However, if I try to restart the build controller I get an access denied error.  Not sure if that is related in some way.
I am using a ABC domain service account to run the test agent sevice.  There is a Main domain service account running the build.  Both service accounts are administrators on the test controller and in the TeatTestControllerAdmins and TeatTestControllerUsers
groups.  The test agent service account is also in the TeamTestAgentService group.
I tried to create a port proxy to forward requests from the Main facing NIC to the port on the ABC facing NIC:
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=6901 listenaddress=10.10.10.111 connectport=6901 connectaddress=10.20.20.222
This almost worked.  I could see with netstat commands that the port was opened and a connection was established with the build agent,  however after a long wait it hit an error that it couldn’t find the ABC NIC:
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.20.20.222:6901
So apparently the ABC IP is getting forwarded back to the test agent, which then of course can’t use it.
I am running out of ideas to try.  Not sure where the problem is:
    Cross-domain issue between Main.corp.company.com and corp.company.com?  Or,
Problem with the test controller not being able to listen on more than one NIC?
I know I am not the first person to try to set up something cross domain.  Most of the troubleshooting suggestions I have been able to bing have been about fixing connections between test controller and test agents, which isn’t the problem here.
Is this set up just so far from standard that VS can’t handle it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.

Just to make this issue clearly, you mean that it is not the Test Controller and Test Agent issue, am I right?
As you said that it is related to the Build controller and build Agent, am I right?
If it is related to the Build Controller and Build Agent, I suggest you post this issue to the TFS forum, there you would get dedicated support.

  • Cross Company Controlling Issue

    Dear Experts,
My Client is using two controlling areas.First controlling area have 1 company code assigned on it and another have 10 company codes assigned on it. Now they want to do cross company code controlling between these 11 company codes but as the controlling areas are different then how can we cater this issue?
    Please guide.
    Regards,
    Zain Bashir

    Dear Zain
Controlling area is just like a box limiting the management to slice and dice the data within the defined boundaries of that box. There is no cross controlling area activities possible.

  • Netboot Issue - White Imac to 2007 AL Imac

    Hi
We have just purchased 20 Mid 2007 Aluminium iMac's to add to our existing network. - The one i have taken out of the box was pre-installed with 10.4.11 with a Leopard Upgrade Disk inside (said that Leopard is not installed on the machine but can be upgraded by use of this disc).
We have a 10.4.10 Netboot image (built on a 17" 2006 White Intel iMac) on our XServe that I have tried to restore onto one of the new Aluminium Imac's.
    The actual netboot operation worked fine and the operating system booted up on the new Aluminium Imac - but then i have found;
    a) the onboard LAN port is greyed out and cant be configured
    b) the isight camera does not work
    c) the sound does not work
I downloaded the 10.4.11 combo updater and ran that on the machine hoping that it would replace drivers, etc - no chance.
Is there a way i can get the specific drivers for this hardware, as I dont want to have to install all of the programs and settings that we have for our network. then have to clone it 20 times.
Or is there a way i can remove the settings for the missing items (network, isight, sound) from the computer prefs and get them rebuilt on system startup?
Frustrated that Apple support has been less than forthcomming, with the reply of
"upgrade to Leopard" - Upgrading to Leopard is not an option.
Not understanding the problem which i was facing.
I might have to return the 20 and just get hold of 20 of the White Imac's - which are on sale from our reseller.

Thank you so much for your information.  I have been using a Seagate GoFlex portable drive as my back up disc with TimeMachine on my iMac.  The AirPort Time Capsule is arriving tomorrow with my new iMac.  My question to you is this:  Will it be easier to wait till tomorrow, set up my AirPort Time Capsule and back up my old iMac to it and then use it with the Startup Assistant to transfer my stuff or will it be easier just to use my GoFlex back up disc?  I have had some issues in the last year where Time Machine send me a message that the (daily) back up failed because the file got corrupted and I have been unable to fix it so that I have to reformat the disc and back up everything I have.  Just an FYI, I don't have a huge amount of stuff on my iMac even if is almost 7 years old....I have 900 GB out of 1TB available.  This is one of the reasons I felt it's time to replace my iMac.
Right now I have a clean encrypted back up on the GoFlex but I don't want to transfer anything I shouldn't to my new iMac.  Please advice and thank you.

  • Crystal Reports 10 Cross Tab Report Issue

I created a Cross Tab Report with multiple rows of data.  It has two columns to return data for Year 2008 and Year 2009.  When reading the database the report does not return data for rows that have a result of 0 in both columns even though Suppress Empty Rows is NOT checked in the Cross Tab Expert Customize Style Tab.  Any suggestions as to how to get all of the rows to display including those with results of 0?

I'm guessing that your issue is that "results of 0" is really a lack of data, not that something is there and is summing to zero.
In that case, you need to base your report on an SQL Command.  Take the SQL that the report is currently using, and UNION it with another select statement that returns all of the rows that you are looking for with zero values; something like this:
    UNION
    select category, 0 as PY_Value, 0 as CY_Value
    from categories
This will cause the data to be there, which will cause the rows to display on the cross tab.
    HTH,
    Carl
