Crystal 2008 - Selected table names are blank or end in 1

I am creating a new report in Crystal 2008.  I am connecting to a database using ODBC.  The tables show up correctly in the available tables column of the Database Expert.  Once I select a table the table shows up in the selected tables list as an icon only - no name or as an icon with a table name ending in 1.  The table name that ends in 1 is not a duplicate.
Furthermore, in the field explorer the fields all show but I can not add any to the report.
Any ideas, this just started happening this week.

Hi Russell
Which database you are reporting off?
You can try following workaround and create indirect ODBC connection.
Create a report using OLEDB connection and select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC drivers and then create a report .
This will point to your existing ODBC connection through OLEDB provider.
For the tables name that are blank do you have hyphen '-' in their names?
As advised by Jayendra you can try with Service Pack 1for Crysatl Reports 2008.
Hope this helps..

  • Database wizard table headers are blank

    This is an ongoing issue with crystal reports 2008. I have a progress Database with an ODBC connection. If I setup a connection to the database using the database wizard  in CR 2008 I can see all of the tables, but if I add one of the tables to my report the table name does not display and I am unable to remove that table from the list. If I follow the same steps using crystal reports 11, this works without any issue. Does anyone know if this is a bug in crystal reports 2008?

  • Oracle 9 table names are not case sensitive

    Sorry about the trivial question, but I noticed that when I am creating table in Oracle their names is always upper case.
    Example:
    CREATE TABLE MyTable (i NUMBER(5))
    CREATE TABLE MYTable (i NUMBER(5))
    CREATE TABLE MyTABLE (i NUMBER(5))
    CREATE TABLE MyTablE (i NUMBER(5))
    it is the same table. Is it true that Oracle cannot create tables with names case sensitive, or I am doing something wrong.
    Any help

    You can create case sensitive table with table names enclosed in quotes.
    SQL> create table sample(id number);
    Table created.
    SQL> select table_name from user_tables where upper(table_name)='SAMPLE';
    TABLE_NAME
    SAMPLE
    SQL> create table "sample"(id number);
    Table created.
    SQL> select table_name from user_tables where upper(table_name)='SAMPLE';
    TABLE_NAME
    SAMPLE
    sample

  • Select table name dynamically

    I want to create a cursor in which the select statement should be
    dynamic:<o:p></o:p>
    if @PhoneType = White<o:p></o:p>
    Then the select statement should
    be as<o:p></o:p>
    select
    distinct
    MODEL_NUM from
    Dbo.Apple<o:p></o:p>
    if @PhoneType = Black<o:p></o:p>
    select
    distinct
    MODEL_NUM from
    Dbo.Samsung<o:p></o:p>
    IF @MobileId
    IS NOT NULL
             BEGIN
    IF @PhoneType =
    'white'
    SET @SqlStmt
    = 'select distinct MODEL_NUM from dbo.Apple'
    IF @PhoneType =
    'Black'
    SET @SqlStmt
    = 'select distinct MODEL_NUM from dbo.Samsung'
    declare MOBILE
    cursor for
    select distinct
    MODEL_NUM from Dbo.Apple

    After a few decades with SQL, my rule of thumb is that you should write no more than five cursors in an entire career. Furthermore, dynamic SQL is how you tell the world you failed at your DDL and architecture, so you have to depend on future random users
    to do your job.
    I also see you use if-then-else flow controls in SQL! This is a declarative language. We hate that kind of programming.
    Since you felt exempt from Netiquette and did post DDL, I will guess that the phones are set of entities which have a manufacturer. Putting them in separate tables is a design flaw called “attribute splitting” , much like having  “Male_Personnel” and “Female_Personnel”
    instead of a Personnel table with a sex_code column.
    The skeleton for this kind of problem puts all the validation in a single table, thus:
    CREATE TABLE Phones
     model_nbr VARCHAR (???) NOT NULL,
     manufacturer_name VARCHAR (???) NOT NULL,
     CONSTRAINT Valid_Model_nbr
      CHECK (CASE manufacturer_name
             WHEN 'Apple' AND model_nbr LIKE '<reg exp>
             THEN 'T'
             WHEN 'Samsung' AND model_nbr LIKE '<reg exp>
             THEN 'T'
             ELSE 'F' END = 'T'),

  • Dock application Fan appears but thumbnails and app names are blank

    Something strange has happened on my Dock. I grouped all the iLife apps by creating a new folder and moving links to the iLife apps into it. It works fine.
    Then I dragged this folder to the dock to make a fan of iLife apps. It simplifies my Dock. This worked fine for a while.
    Recently, the fan has come up with blank thumbnails and blank app names. Mousing on the blank entries starts the app, just as before. But of course it now I don't know what i am launching. When I reboot, the fan shows all just as I wanted -- for a while. The it blanks out again.
    what is going on? I want to fix this.

    It appears to be a common problem. A restart will get it working again for awhile. See for instance this discussion:

  • Help passing table name as parameter to a procedure

    Hello,
    i'm trying to write a procedure that takes a table name as input and uses a cursor to select a column,count(1) from the passed table to the cursor. The procedure i've come up with is as follows,
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    PROCEDURE excur(
        p_tbl user_tables.table_name%type )
    AS
      type rc is ref cursor;
      c rc;
      res BOOLEAN;
    BEGIN
      open c for 'SELECT columnA,COUNT(1) FROM'|| p_tbl||';';
      close c;
    END excur;When i try to execute it, an error pops up informing that a table cannot be used in this context. As in i cannot pass a table name as an argument to a procedure. Kindly guide as to how to solve this situation.

    That aside, what do you want to return? You're selecting a column and applying an aggregate function (count) but you're not grouping, that doesn't usually work out too well.
    TUBBY_TUBBZ?select owner, count(*) from all_objects;
    select owner, count(*) from all_objects
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00937: not a single-group group functionWhy do you perceive the need to be able to take in ANY table name, can't you design an application where table names are known at compile time and not run time?

  • How to find the list of un used table names in a schema?

    Hi,
    I have a doubt in Oracle. The doubt is that If we are using any tables in Function Or Proc.... Then...We can list all those used table names from USER_DEPENDENCIES system table. Right...
    But, If the table is used with Execute Immediate Statement, then, those table names are not coming out with USER_DEPENDENCIES system table. Because they are identified at run time and not compile time.
    It is fine. And I agree.. But, If I want to list out those tables also...then...How to do? Any idea?
    I think ‘USER_SOURCE’ system table may not be the right one. If there is any other system table avails for this purpose...then..it would be very grateful to extract right...
    So I am wanting that exact system table.
    Please let me know about this, if you have any idea or check with your friends if they have any idea.

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for all your answers.
    Yes....You are all right. We can list out the used tables upto certain extent. Anyhow, I have done some R&D to derive the SQL's which is given below:
    SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES
    MINUS
    SELECT DISTINCT UPPER(REFERENCED_NAME)
    FROM user_dependencies
    where
    referenced_type='TABLE' and UPPER(NAME) in
    select distinct UPPER(object_name) from user_objects where UPPER(object_type) in
    'MATERIALIZED VIEW',
    'PACKAGE',
    'PACKAGE BODY',
    'PROCEDURE',
    'TRIGGER',
    'VIEW',
    'FUNCTION'
    UNION
    SELECT UT.TABLE_NAME FROM
    SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM USER_TABLES
    MINUS
    SELECT DISTINCT UPPER(REFERENCED_NAME)
    FROM user_dependencies
    where
    referenced_type='TABLE' and UPPER(NAME) in
    select distinct UPPER(object_name) from user_objects where UPPER(object_type) in
    'MATERIALIZED VIEW',
    'PACKAGE',
    'PACKAGE BODY',
    'PROCEDURE',
    'TRIGGER',
    'VIEW',
    'FUNCTION'
    AND REFERENCED_OWNER=(SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'CURRENT_SCHEMA') FROM dual)
    ) UT,
    ( SELECT * FROM USER_SOURCE
    WHERE NAME IN
    ( SELECT DISTINCT NAME FROM USER_SOURCE
    WHERE TYPE NOT IN ('TYPE')
    AND
    UPPER(TEXT) LIKE '%EXECUTE IMMEDIATE%'
    ) US
    WHERE
    UPPER(US.TEXT) LIKE '%'||UPPER(UT.TABLE_NAME)||'%'
    AND
    (UPPER(US.TEXT) NOT LIKE '%--%')
    The above SQL Query can list out unused tables by checking the Dynamic SQL Statement also upto some level only.
    Once we extracted the list of unused tables, having a manual check would be also greater to verify as it is should not impact the business applications.

  • Petstore install problem on Derby and Mysql (Linux) - Upper case table name

    Hi
    I seem to have a problem which may also be at the heart of many threads here - the tables are created in lower case yet referenced in UPPER CASE.
    If the DB is case sensitive, the tables arent found.
    does anyone have an UPPER CASED VERSION OF THE SETUP SCRIPT ????
    1) setup/sql/javadb/petstore.sql contains all table and field names in lower case
    in Netbeans look under ServerResources/sql
    i.e.
    create table tag(
    tagid INTEGER NOT NULL,
    tag VARCHAR(30) NOT NULL,
    refcount INTEGER NOT NULL,
    primary key (tagid),
    unique(tag)
    2) the petstore app tries to access using CAPITALISED NAMES
    i.e.
    Exception [TOPLINK-4002] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2006.8 (Build 060830)): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: org.apache.derby.client.am.SqlException: Schema 'PETSTORE' does not existError Code: -1

    at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.databaseaccess.DatabaseAccessor.executeCall(DatabaseAccessor.java:437)
    3) In mysql, the table names are .......
    mysql> describe tag;
    --------------------------------------------------+
    | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
    --------------------------------------------------+
    | tagid | int(11) | NO | PRI | | |

    | refcount | int(11) | NO | | | |

    I have created two tables in Oracle10g
    as follows
    SQL> create table test(columna number,columnb varchar2(20),primary key(columna));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into test values(1,'test');
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    COMMIT är utfört.
    SQL> create table "test quote"("#" number,abc number,primary key("#"));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into "test quote" values(1,2);
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    COMMIT är utfört.
    SQL> select * from "test quote";
    # ABC
    1 2
    SQL> select * from test;
    COLUMNA COLUMNB
    1 test
    Now I want to cache the tables and their data into TimesTen
    The cache group for table test which is not having any spaces and special characters in table name and column names is created perfectly.
    But when I create the cache group for table "test quote" which is having special characters and spaces it gives error :
    Command>create readonly cache group w2 from testuser.test(columna number,columnb varchar2(20),primary key(columna));
    Command>select * from test;
    <1,test>
    1 row found.
    Command>create readonly cache group w3 from testuser."test quote"("#" number,abc number,primary key("#"));
    5140: Could not find TESTUSER.TEST QUOTE in Oracle. May not have privileges.
    Command Failed.
    Now there is contradiction that why cache group for table test is created successfully and why it is not being created for table "test quote".
    What I think is if special characters and spaces in column names and table names are possible in Oracle then it sould be possible in TimesTen.
    Any possible solution.
    Looking forward for your reply.
    Please help I am stuck badly.

  • Table name change in procedure dynamically

    create table tab1(x number);
    create table dynamic_table (x number);
    insert into tab1 values (1);
    insert into dynamic_table values (1);
    commit;
    create procedure proc1
    is
    v_x number;
    begin
    execute immediate 'create table mytab
    as select tab1.*
    from tab1, tabc
    where tab1.x = dynamic_table.x';
    end;
    begin
    proc1;
    end;
    /dynamic_table --> should be dynamically replaced in the procedure
    There are two more tables in this scenario - tabe and tabf, In the above procedure, I have to dynamically replace dynamic_table first with tabe, call it, then then replace with tabf and execute procedure again
    Is there a way I can do that ? any dynamic sql that will prompt me to call proc1 twice, 1st time replace dynamic_table with tabe, then with tabf
    the structure of tabe and tabf is the same, I am currently passing a parameter to the procedure and replacing dynamic_table with the input parameter, and then
    calling the procedure twice by passing the table names, wanted to follow a better approach
    Currently, I am doing somethig like this:
    create procedure proc1 (i_param in varchar2)
    is
    v_x number;
    begin
    execute immediate 'create table mytab
    as select tab1.*
    from tab1, tabc
    where tab1.x = i_param.x';
    end;
    begin
    proc1('tabe');
    proc1('tabf');
    end;
    /

    Why are you trying to do this?
    Good database design practice means that you don't create tables dynamically within your code.
    Why do you have tables of the same structure with different names?
    Dynamic table names are not a good idea because it means all your code has to be dynamic.
    So whilst it's perfectly possible to do what you are asking, showing you how to do it would be like me showing you how to fly a plane into the ground, i.e. not something that's clever or wise.
    So, better you explain what problem you are trying to solve rather than ask us how to improve on the poor code you are already trying to do.

  • Mixed case in column & table name

    Hi,
    How can tell SQL to use mixed case for column & table name?
    For example:
    create table PerNode (netId number, nodeId number);
    select netId, nodeId from PerNode;
    The above statements automatically made to upper case. But I wanted to retain the case sensitiveness in the column & table names.
    I know a way by including the names in double quote in the case will make this to retain the case.
    But I don't want to give all the time the column & table names within double quote.
    What I wanted to know is that is there any ALTER kind of statement will make the SQL to use the case I use in the name of the column & table.
    I greatly appreciate your advice.
    Thanks,

    Oracle column names and table names are case insensitive unless you enclose them in quotes.
    Unless you want to have two tables, one called PerNode and one called pernode or some such, I'm not sure what benefit case sensitivity would have. One can certainly use mixed case SQL statements in stored procedures and ad-hoc SQL for readability-- only in the Oracle internals is everything changed to upper case.

  • Crystal 2008 DB2 error that works in Crystal XI R1

    We finally converted a legacy server from Crystal Server XI R1 to Crystal 2008. All users are now suppose to start writing in CR2008 only.
    We found a small number of reports running again a DB2 data source that are erroring out when run on CR2008 locally or on the server..
             Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: -204 ]
    - The same reports run fine on the same machine against the same data source when opened and run in CRXI.
    It appears that running them in CR2008 adds a schema value "Username." to the db2 command and thus the DB2 -204 error.
        SQL0204N name is an undefined name.
    The problem happens whether we use ODBC or DB2 Unicode Connections.
    Any ideas?

    Answer: Service Market Place you will see it is now available.
    This turns out not to be the case.
    These are the options in the marketplace. Note, no CRS2008 V2, sp2 or fix pack 2.5 etc.
         CRYSTAL REPORTS SERVER
         CRYSTAL REPORTS SERVER 2008 V0
         CRYSTAL REPORTS SERVER 2008 V1
         CRYSTAL REPORTS SERVER XI R2
    Answer: One possible work around is to install Crystal Reports on the CR Server PC and then you can apply the CR patch. It should update all of the CSE runtime. BUT PLEASE do this on a test system first. The install may detect CRS is installed an not allow you to though.
    We are testing this to see if this is your solution.
    My last response was a question on whether this had been tested, since you mentioned back on March 29th that you were testing. We do not have a test server for this product due to licensing contraints. Has this method for updating the server been tested?

  • EF 5 Model First Approach- How to avoid Table names from pluralized

    I'm using Entity Framewrok 5.0 Model First approach using Visual Studio 2012 express. The generated database tables are pluralized. How do I avoid this? Please advice. I'm using Model First approach (Designed the entities in the EF designer and generated
    the Database.) . Please note that following technic does not apply to this scenario as it applies to code - first approach.
    using System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration.Conventions;
    protected override void OnModelCreating(ModelBuilder modelBuilder)
    modelBuilder.Conventions.Remove<PluralizingTableNameConvention>();

    Hi Arasheed,
    Welcome to the MSDN forum.
    I tested your problem. It seems a default setting that Table names are pluralized. If you want to avoid pluralizing, you can do it manually:
    Right click the empty area and select “Generate Database from Model…”.
    Choose the correct connection and click “Next”.
    You will see the generated DDL. Please copy all the content, then click “Cancel”.
    Click “Data” on the Visual Studio bar and select “Tansact-SQL Editor”. Then click “New Query Connection…”.
    Connect to the right server.
    Paste the DDL we copied before.
    Modify the table creation lines. Note: do not forget to change the corresponding name in constraints.
    Right click the empty area and click “Execute SQL”.
    In addition, you can submit your feature requests here to improve Entity Framework:

  • Dynamically pick the table names in data flow task SSIS

    Hi All,
    I want to create a SSIS package which loads the data to a table on the other server every day. I have around 250 tables to load everyday and source and destination table names are available in a metadata table, table names have to read from the metadata
    table and data should be loaded. Is there a way that we can configure the source and destination table names dynamically in Data flow task?
    I am newbie to SSIS can any help with the solution for this problem.

    You can do that, not a big deal. The underlying problem is say suppose you constructed a ETL based on some x source and y destination and have put x(3 columns) as source and y destination(3 columns).. As you said if we have choice of dynamically pick the
    table names.. ETL might fail when you face below situation
    source x(3 columns)   destination y (4 columns) and there will be no mapping as it is dynamic. Sometimes mapping also fails even if the source and destination have same number of columns. If you still want to do... follow below steps:
    Create two variables:
    1.variable1 , datatype string
    2.variable datatype string
    take one execute sql task, pick your source table names dynamically as you desired from metadata table \
    "SELECT sourcetblname as Res FROM @metadata WHERE ID=1" in sql statement and then go to name the result name as Res (I meant same as table alias) and map it to variablename1
    And in variable2 go to expression and write "Select * from "+@[User::variable].. and this will be your constructed dynamic command for oledb destination.
    And connect that execute sql task to (Data flow task)oledb source and choose data access mode as sql command with variable,and choose variable2. below is the diagram.
