Crystal 2008: Text, Can Grow=true, Max Lines=0, truncated after 2 lines

I have a fairly simple, grouped report with a handful of fields in each Detail section, one of which is a note/text field.  I put the text field on its own line and set Can Grow = true, max lines = 0 so that it will display what it needs to display.
This happens to be a crystalreports.com report using data coming from Salesforce, and I can see in the source report that I have about 7 lines of text for one of my groups, but crystal is truncating it after two lines, and in the middle of a word.
The word ('for') doesn't have any obvious special characters in it, so I'm guessing that there's some sort of character limit that I'm bumping up against.
I have another record that is returning more than two lines, though; are there particular characters that could cause this?  I can scrub the data and/or put Salesforce Validation Rules in place to try and prevent them from getting in.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Duncan

  • Viewing Crystal 2008 ActiveX  on Access 2007 forms

    Ok, i am a little confused as there seems to be a some doubt whether Crystal 2008 ActiveX can be used on Access forms. Another thread even has a reply that mentions that the ActiveX control is no longer included in Crystal Reports 2008..... Take a look at this, you can clearly see i have embedded the 2008 ActiveX control onto an Access form. link:[http://www.moktar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/AX.JPG]
    I have just installed 2008 and will get round to looking at this, however in my brief look, i couldnt see the run time library for 2008. By all accounts you can freely distribute the run time files for Crystal Reports 2008 as MSI or exe packages to your clients. I hope this is the case and i can get the ActiveX working.
    If anyone has some information on this subject i will welcome reading it.
    This is how its used to be done;
    1) Open the Access form in design view.
    2) Click on Add Tool button on the toolbar.
    3) Select Crystal Reports ActiveX toolbar control from the list of controls.
    4) Place the control on the form.
    5) Click on the View Code toolbar button to open the code for the form
    6) Choose u2018Referencesu2019 from the u2018Toolsu2019 menu
    7) Select u2018Crystal Reports ActiveX Design and Runtime Library 11.Xu2019 from the list of references and add to the project.
    8) On the Form_Load() event, please use the code given below to pass the report to the viewer:
    Dim crReport as CRAXDRT.Report
    Dim crApplication as New CRAXDRT.Application
    u2018 Use the appropriate path for the report
    Set crReport = crApplication.OpenReport(u201CC:\Report1.rptu201D)
    u2018 ReportSource property and ViewReport method will not be displayed on the viewer control
    CrystalActiveXReportViewer0.ReportSource = crReport
    CrystalActiveXReportViewer0.ViewReport
    'Hey Presto, the Crystal control on the Access form is now displaying a report. However, you had the age old issue of distributing the runtime files to clients that dont have crystal reports installed, and even more so of an issue, as this is Access and no method of doing it. I was hoping that 2008 with its MSI and EXE versions of the runtime files would solve this age old problem.
    Thanks
    Simon.

    Hello Simon,
    The RDC was retired after Crystal Reports XI R2 and no longer exists in CR 2008.
    The viewer control you are seeing is not meant for RDC applications.
    You will need to move to Java or .NET if you plan on using CR 2008.
    Best Regards,
    Jason

  • Problems getting Excelsius 2008 line chart to integrate into Crystal 2008

    I am playing around with integrating excelsius 2008 into Crystal 2008 and I can't and am getting rather frustrated.  I have a simple output of the following:
    Month     % 1st delivery - Actl
    1                   65.00
    2                   89.80
    3                   85.00
    4                   87.50
    5
    6                   91.90
    7                   94.80
    8
    I set up a line chart for 1 series, the series being the month and charting the delivery %.  Very simple.
    The way I have the xcelsius data manager set up is that my Row Headers go from A2:A13 and the data goes from B2:B13 and my chart is set up to ignore blank cells.  I then saved that as an SWF file and pulled that into Crystal.  I mapped the Month column into the row label and the % 1st delivery - Actl into the data value.  What I get is a chart with just a value of 1 across the bottom and values of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 going up the left.  Basically, nothing.
    Now, if I go back into the Flash Data Binding Expert on the Crystal report, click on my data column, click on the options button and change the summary from sum to count, it seems to work.  I get a chart that has 1 - 8 across the bottom and a value of 1 on the chart for months 1 - 4, 6 and 7.  Now, if I go into my database and add another row for month 6, the chart now shows 2 for month 6.
    So basically, I can't get anything charted on this xcelsius chart exept for a count of my data values.  Any ideas?  I'm stumped and frustrated and would great appreciate any assistance.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joe,
    This is a known issue for CR 2008 and was fixed for CR 2008 and MS SQL Server 2008. It was not fixed for SQL Server 2005 using the SQL 2008 native driver as we do not support the MS SQL 2005 native client.
    I never tested it against MS SQL 2005 because we did not support the native driver for 2005. It may work using the 2008 native client but you'll have to download Fix Pack 2.7 for CR 2008, requires Service Pack 2 first.
    The cause is CR does not recognize the new SQL server native dll so it reverts to a default SQL syntax for that function.
    If it does not work, not officially supported, we won't be able to fix it. Options are to upgrade MS SQL server or use ODBC or OLE DB to connect using the MDAC client for MS SQL server 2005.
    Thank you

  • Can not see two fields in Crystal 2008 Developer explorer/designer view

    I am currently developing crystal 2008 reports against the salesforce.com database using version 12.0.0.683 CR Developer Full version. I am using an updated driver that was provided in July or Aug 08 in order to view self referencing fields. The problem is that when I try and report against one of the tables (lead history) I cannot view two of the fields (New Value and Old Value)? I can see these two field (New Value and Old Value) in the database expert as the last two fields in the actual table, but the two fields are missing when I go into the explorer/designer view. In Salesforce, these two fields can not be filtered on, but I can export all the values in this table using Salesforece Apex data loader.

  • Can i install CR XII R2 side-by-side with Crystal 2008?

    Hi,
    I am using Crystal XII R2 SP2 in a Vista Business Workstation. I'm using this specific version because i need to develop reports used in a ERP app that uses this version as a reporting engine.
    Can i install Crystal 2008 side-by-side with XII R2 SP2?
    TIA,
    Carlos Crespo

    Yes, you can install Crystal Reports 2008 side by side with Crystal Reports XI Release 2. This is supported by Business Objects.

  • Save Crystal 2008 report as XI -- or can you run 2008 report in XI?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to save a report created in Crystal 2008 report as an XI verion?
    If not, is it possible to run a report created in Crystal 2008 report in XI and Crystal Report Server XI if none of the new features in 2008 are used?
    I want to purchase an additional copy of the application, and am trying to decide which version I can use when the bulk of the reports are run on CRS XI...
    - JD

    Good feedback, I've a couple of  things I'm still curious about...
    1. Does the warning pop up every time you open the report created in 2008 in XI?
    2. Including on the XI REPORT SERVER rather than the desktop client?
    I ask as I'm concerned that if I create reports and upload them to the XI server it'll cause no end of user annoyance if they have to click through a warning message every time the want to run/load the report.

  • Crystal 2008 can't "see" my tables but Version XI can.

    I bought 2008 and tried to connect through ODBC to a progress databse. The tables that have names which include a dash "-" will not run. I tried version XI and it works fine with my same ODBC connection (.dsn) what can I do to correct this? I bought 2008. Can I rool this back or something?

    Hi David,
    Just try to create the connection with ODBC/ OLEDB with DSN connection and update the connection with the set datasource location and verify that you are able to see the tables in the CR XI version.
    Else create a new connection to the existing one and verify the tables are retrieved or not.
    Let us know if you have any queries.

  • Can Grow Vertical Alignment Error in Embedded Report View, but not in .PDF

    Hello,
    I have seen postings about this issue before, but have yet to find a solution.
    I am using Visual Studio 2008 w/ the basic version of Crystal Reports that is included.
    I have a simple report that displays results of a stored procedure as rows across the report.  One field can be of variable length, anywhere from 0 to 100 characters.  Usually it's something reasonable (less than 40 chars), and so I have only given it so much width in the report.  For when it is longer than that, I turned the "Can Grow" property ON, and set the Maximum Number of Lines property to 0.
    When the report displays embedded in my Web Form, and this field's data is wider than the space I have allowed, it breaks the data down into multiple lines of the same correct width, as you'd expect, but those lines end up displaced vertically upward several rows, and print directly on top of other data from the above rows, make the report unreadable in that area (and quite ugly overall!).
    If I export this report to a .PDF, it displays perfectly, without the vertical displacement error.
    Anyone know what the official work is on this?  Is there a fix or is this a bug?
    If there is no fix, does anyone know how to direct the report to the .PDF file viewer, so the embedded report remains invisible (and thus hides the ugly error), but the user has the .PDF version to see?  My client ultimately wants to export the report to .PDF, which I have already coded, but it does not open the .PDF Viewer, just saves the report to disk.  However, if I use the Crystal built-in Export button, it first displays a pop-up asking which format to export to, then if .PDF is chosen and okay is clicked, the pop-up switches to contain the .PDF Viewer, and opens the report.  In my user-defined export code, the .PDF is correctly created, but I am missing the step on how to open the .PDF Viewer.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the responses.
    Jonathan, moving the field in question to its own details section (details B) did not fix the issue.  The field in question is moved slightly down as its in a new details section with sits slightly lower than details A, but when it has to be broken up into multiple lines, the same issue arises, the field text is displaced vertically upward and sits on top of other data.
    Ludek, I wanted to send the report to a .PDF Viewer in a new browser, and keep the original browser intact.  I'm using code very similar to yours.  To launch the new broswer I added this code to the Page_Load of my main browser:
    btnViewReport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open(Page.aspx', """", """", 'height=200,width=400')")
    When the button is clicked the report is exported, and the new browser opens Page.aspx.
    I use this code in Page_Load of Page.aspx:
            Dim webClient As System.Net.WebClient = New System.Net.WebClient()
            Dim buffer As Byte() = webClient.DownloadData("C:\Reports\Report.pdf")
            If Not buffer.Length.Equals(0) Then
                Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"
                Response.AddHeader("content-length", buffer.Length.ToString())
                Response.BinaryWrite(buffer)
            End If
    Any other ideas on the original vertical displacement issue when using Can Grow, I'd still appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Word issues with upgradeing reports built in 10 to crystal 2008

    We have a bunch of reports that were built and running with 10. We are trying to upgrade our servers to run with crystal 2008. The reports built in 10 have been working when run with the crystal 2008 runtime. With the exception of a problem when opening a report in word. I have figured out if I change the page set up in word to be landscape the report will now show fine. Also if i edit the actual rpt to be much narrower than the original, it will execute correctly in word. Has anyone else had this problem? Word will run very slow and there will be blank pages in between a multi page document.

    Hi Bill,
    Not sure what version you are using, get SP1. In the report designer if you got the Page Setup options try checking on Dissociate Formatting Page....
    If you are using RAS and SP1 you can do this in code something like this:
    System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument pDoc = new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument();
    PrintReportOptions rasPROpts = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptionsClass();
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions MYPRTOpts = new PrintOptionsClass();
    if (rdoCurrent.Checked)
                    pDoc.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
                    MYPRTOpts.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperSize = (CrPaperSizeEnum)
                             pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSizes[cboCurrentPaperSizes.SelectedIndex].Kind;
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperSource = (CrPaperSourceEnum)
                             pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSources[cboCurrentPaperTrays.SelectedIndex].Kind;
         // added the below line to verify the changes work.
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperOrientation = CrPaperOrientationEnum.crPaperOrientationLandscape;
                    // new API added to allow changing printing options
                    MYPRTOpts.DissociatePageSizeAndPrinterPaperSize = true;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Left = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Right = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Top = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Bottom = 1;
    Thank you
    Don

  • Field value not working as "Can grow" when exported in PDF

    Hi, I have a unique problem. We have a report which is using a sub-report. When we run that report in Crystal report and preview then it looks fine. This subreport is designated as "can  grow" so if the field length is bigger than the size then it is coming in the second row. Everything works fine except when we export this report in PDF.
    When we export in PDF then this field is not working as "Can grow" and remaining value of the fields is  truncated. This is happening both in XI and 2008 version of Crystal client.
    Thanks,

    Hi, This is declared as bug by Business Objects Support and Product team will decide if they want to include fix in next release (or fix). This is not possible before Dec 2009 or Early 2010.
    Below are the general steps on how to apply the suggested workaround:
    1. Remove the on-demand subreport caption, and add an empty string to it instead.
    1.1 In the u201CDesignu201D view of the report, right click on the subreport and select u201CFormat Subreportu2026u201D
    1.2 In u201CFormat Editoru201D window, under the tab u201CSubreportu201D, click on the u201CX-2u201D button of the option u201COn-Demand Subreport Captionu201D
    1.3 In the u201CFormula Workshopu201D window, highlight the text in the formula, and cut it. ( Ctrl-X)
    ( We are just copying the text, as we need to use the samething for the formula or text object we will use to replace this. )
    1.4 Type the following in the formula: u201Cu201D
    1.5 Click on the button u201CSave and closeu201D, to close the u201CFormula Workshopu201D
    1.6 Back to the u201CFormat Editoru201D window, click on the u201COKu201D button to accept the change.
    2. Create a formula or insert a text object in which you add the text or fields you will like to display
    ( In the following steps we will be using a formula )
    2.1 In the u201CField Exploreru201D, right click on u201CFormula Fieldsu201D and select u201CNewu201D
    2.2 In the u201CFormula Nameu201D window, type the name of the formula. ( Example: My subreport caption )
    2.3 In the u201CFormula Workshopu201D, copy the text you cut in step 1.3, or simply add the database fields and text you will like to display for your on-demand subreport caption.
    2.4 Save and close the formula by clicking on the u201CSave and closeu201D button
    3. Insert the formula over the on-demand subreport, and resize the field to be of the desired length.
    4. Format the formula to display like a hyperlink. ( Blue font and underlined text )
    4.1 Right click on the formula inserted in step 3, and select u201CFormat Fieldu2026u201D
    4.2 In the u201CFormat Editoru201D, under the tab u201CFontu201D, set the color to blue
    4.3 Still under the tab u201CFontu201D, check the u201CEffectsu201D option u201CUnderlineu201D
    4.4 Under the tab u201CCommonu201D, check the option u201CCan Growu201D
    4.5 Click on the u201COKu201D button to accept the change
    5. Move the formula to the back in order to ensure you can drill-down on the on-demand subreport
    5.1 Right click on the formula inserted above the on-demand subreport and select u201CMove u2013 To Backu201D
    Now, when exporting the report to PDF format, the formula used to replace the u201Con-demand subreport captionu201D that displays more than one line will all be exported.
    This workaround has following limitations:
    The User can see the service description in two lines because of the u2018Text Objectu2019, the On demand subreport is not growing into the second line in the crystal report since we removed the caption.
    So the user has to carefully click on the first line of the description in the main report to open the subreport. If he clicks on the second line then it wonu2019t open the required subreport and it may create confusion.
    If we manually stretch out the subreport to occupy two lines space then it will leave a gap in between when we have only 1 line service description.
    So plan ahead of time about how lengthy text in su-report would be.

  • "Can Grow" property on Cross-Tab object can not be unlock

    I am using Crystal Reports XI.  My report uses a Cross-Tab object via SQL server.  I am having problem making my data column (Field Row) to increase dynamically in height when my data size increases.  Since the "Can Grow" property in the Format Editor is locked, it would not let me set the "Can Grow" to true to enable this function.  How do I unlock the "Can Grow" function so I can set it to true?

    The only other option I can think of would be to build a virtual cross tab, but in many cases, especially when the number of 'column' values is dynamic, this is not possible.

  • Issues with Crystal 2008 Printing to a Zebra Label Printer with SP2

    Hi there
    We are having issues printing to a Zebra Label Printer using Crystal 2008 SP2.
    When you attached a .rpt file to the .NET Application which is accessed via RDP/ICA the reports in Crystal XI worked fine.
    Steps we have taken are:
    Printing direct from Crystal 2008 Designer to the Zebra Printer works using a Generic Text Driver
    Printing direct from Crystal 2008 Designer to the Zebra Printer using a Zebra Universal Print Driver DOES NOT work (we were advised the Universal Print Driver may assist with the issue)
    The report when accessed via the .NET Application via RDP/ICA using the Universal Print Driver it doesn't work.
    The report when accessed via the .NET Application via RDP/ICA using the Generic Print Driver it doesn't work.
    The report when accessed via the .NET Application drectly from Server Console prints fine using Generic Print Driver, but not with RDP/ICA.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions to a fix?
    Many thanks.
