Crystal Reports 2008 failed to retrive data, and instead deleted it.

I have been using crystal reports 2008 for the past year or so with our billing software through an OBDC data source. I was using xp pro sp3. However I recently upgraded to a new computer running xp pro sp3 as well, and now I am having some serious issues.
When I try to connect to a data source in the database expert, it shows all the tables, and then the field explorer shows the fields, but when I actually try to brows the data, view a preview, verify the database, or refresh an old report it gives me an error and DELETES the .dat file that the field was located in. I am so glad I have regular backups to restore too, because pulling a report nuked 5 .dat files.
The errors I am getting are as follows:
"Failed to retrieve data from database."
Clicked ok
"Failed to retrieve data from database."
Clicked ok
"Database Connector Error: 'HY000:[Pervasive][ODBC Client Interface][LNA][Pervasive][ODBC Engine Interface][Data Record Manager]The file cannot be created with Variable-trail Allocation Tables (VATs)(Btrieve Error 105)'"
Clicked ok
"Failed to retrieve  data from database.
Details:HY000:[Pervasive][ODBC Client Interface][LNA][Pervasive][ODBC Engine Interface]Unable to open table: <nameoftable>"
Click ok
and Crystal stays open but has just deleted the .dat file that the table was located in. It will still show the fields but  no data. Trying to open the other software leads to an error "missing <name of table>.dat" It then has to be restored from a backup.
I have tried updating crystal as well as fully uninstalling it and reinstalling it, we have created a new ODBC connection, and cloned the database for testing purposes. The same thing occurs with the new database and ODBC data source.
We have no other computers, except my old one that has crystal reports on it. I have tried the old computer again and it is working fine.
Does anyone have an suggestions? This is pretty critical. Thanks in advance.

Hello, you could try turning on ODBC tracing to see if it logs anything. It's a pain to get going but here's how.
Go to ODBC Admin, Click on the Tracing tab and create a log file and save. Don't start tracing yet. Close the ODBC admin and then re-open it and then turn tracing on. You may have to do this a few times to get it working.
Once it's tracing then open CR and try the demo data. Then close the report, log off, log onto the real data and do the same with a new report. You'll see a bunch of ODBC API's but there may be one or 2 that don't look right or errors may be logged compared to the DEMODATA.
Another suggestion is it may not be your PC doing the deleting. Maybe the Server thinks you have infected the data files and it's deleting them. Have a look in anti-virus quarantine logs on the server to see if it's doing the nasty....
Check the trust between your PC and the server.
I've also seen this type of odd behaviour with corrupted Profiles. Check with your IT guys on creating a new one for you, it's apain because you loose everything on your work station.
What happens if you log on from another PC using your account? Does that also delete the files? Or get someone else who it does work for log into your PC, does that work? If so it may be your Profile is either not trusted or it's been corrupted.
Good luck
Don

  • Crystal Reports 2008 fails when called from e Web Service under 64bit OS

I have discovered that Crystal Reports 2008 doesn't work when called from a Web Service running under 64bit Windows platforms (in my case Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP 64bit); practically no object is instantiated. I've tried several solutions without success.
Before creating a wrapper component to use under COM+, is there anybody who has a better and cheaper solution than creating another component to wrap CR 2008 ?

    Hi Sergio,
Before I mark this post as assumed answered I would just like to say and re-iterate that at this time there is no one answer and we fully understand your concerns. As you know in CR 6.0 it came in 16 and 32 bit versions because at the time 32 bit was relatively new but 16 bit was the norm. This is also true for 32 to 64 bit, 32 is the norm and 64 bit is relatively new. We know and are well aware 64 bit is the future and we are working as quickly as we can to move in that direction. Because of the complexity of the Product it's not simply a matter of re-compiling all of our dll's in 64 bit format. The core of our data connectivity with our database drivers which are dependant on third party clients must also need to support 64 bit modes. This as well as Printer drivers also need to be 64 compatable, there are a multitude of dependencies that we rely on that must add 64 bit support. As a programmer you are well aware of the issues around Thunking back and forth between 32 to 64 bits, it can cause delays and potentially loss of data which is a whole other issue. Not to mention also that we would have to ship both versions potentially doubling the size of the distribution packages or doubling the size of the dll's to have the ability to work in both modes. Relatively speaking of course, it would not be double the size but the variables would need to be able to allocate 32 or 64 memory blocks.
The other option is to produce 2 separate versions, this alone is a massive project. Any issue would need to be fixed in separate code streams.
So I'm sure you can see it's not simply a matter of saying yes we support 64 bit. It's a massive project that is going to take time to do and we have to wait for the third party drivers to commit also.
Visual Studio .NET 2005 and 2008 is the only option if you want true 64 bit but you will be limited on what DB's you can support and export formats you can export to. They are the only drivers we did convert to 64 bit.
    Thank you for your understanding

  • Crystal Reports 2008 using Outlook/Exchange data source

Hi experts !  We are running a BOXI r3.1 FP 3 on dev and prod.
I recently built a report that uses the Outlook/Exchange data source, where a Sharepoint Calendar is shared to Outlook.
The report runs fine in CR 2008.  I publish it to the Enterprise, and the report runs fine on-demand or VIEW.  IF I schedule the report it fails with either
Object failed to run due to an error while processing on the Job Server.
    or
Error in File ~tmp13bc6e93b8d9690.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.
Is there some magic format for the user Id and password for exchange?
it seems like the job server is not handling the connection correctly.
Any ideas  or comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I'd love to know more how I can query my Outlook Exchange Server, specifically for the keywords "Good News" in the Subject line.
    Any ideas?

  • Crystal Reports 2008: Failed to load database information

    Hi,
I have an application (windows forms) that loads a report as a ReportDocument, and prints it to a predefined printer.
This report is drawing its data from an xml file with an xml schema, both of which have hardcoded paths in the report.
I have built the project into an installer and have installed it on my local machine. Works great, prints fine.
However whenever I install it on another machine (and thus deploy the redistributable) I get the following error when the user tries to print.
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.DataSourceException: Failed to load database information.
    Error in File temp_b647a5f7-7ab3-4f76-8154-0063f3b2b394 {1ADFD95E-D1A2-42A9-AC96-E8DBE2B9940A}.rpt:

I have narrowed the exception in my code down to the following line (which I don't think is the problem)
    LabelToPrint.Load(Util.workingDirectory + "Labels\\" + fileName + ".rpt");
    LabelToPrint.PrintToPrinter(ps.PrinterSettings, ps, false);
Is there something that I need to set up on the users system that I don't know about? Could the system not have ODBC capability? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Two problmes between  Crystal Reports 2008 and Bex Query

    Hi Gurus.
I have two problems with Crystal Reports 2008 when It obtains data from a Bex Query (SAP MDX query connection).
    1)     I have defined some Parameters Fields using the follow options:
    Type: String
    List of Values: Dynamic
    Value Options Level1:
                         Show on (Viewer) Panel :Editable
                          Prompt text: <text>
                          Sort Order: Ascending by value
Prompt With description Only : False
                          Optional Prompt: True
                          Allow multiple values: True
                          Allow discrete values: True
                          Allow range values: False
When I execute the report with the client of Crystal Reports 2008 (the developer tool), in the initial screen shows a list box where I can select the values from the left box and add it to the left box (as a usually filter). When the number of options (LOV) is more than  the maximum of the system, I have a input box bellow the list box, where I can insert any value (manually) and a button to insert it into the left box. When I publish the Report in the infoview, this filter is modified and the input box where I can introduce manually values is not showed and I can insert only the values showed in the list box, it causes that I can`t select a lot of values that is in the master data of SAP BW, because they arenu2019t listed in the list box.
There is any option to ability this option in the infoview.
    2)     My Bex query, have a date filter with variable in the restricted key figures, when I execute a Crystal Reports, the infoview (and the Crystal Reports 2008 designer) ask me 2 times the same date, first only the date and second the date and the rest of parameters (introduced in the report of Crystal Reports).
Why I need insert the date 2 times? How can I modify the Crystal Report for ask me only one time all the parameters?.
    Thanks.

    Hi Abhilash.
    Thank you for your information.
    1) Yes, the parameters are created in the Crystal Reports designer. I have created the parameters in the Crystal Report because I use the same Bex Query to create some Crystal Report, in other case, I will need create some Bex Query.
2)The Bex query has the date filters and I have created some filters in Crystal Reports designer, the date filter from the Bex query is created automatically in the Crystal Report Designer but I don't use it, I haven't created it anytime. I use my filters only in the record selection. The date filters from the Bex query is showed as Static, and I can`t delete it, if I modify the parameter to dynamic or static with values, at first step ask me again static without values and the second step of the report execution ask me the parameter as I have defined in Crystal Reports Designer, my parameters fields are dynamic. A lot of reports have subreport, but I have created one of them without subreport (to trial) and the Crystal Reports ask me the date filters at first execution, and when I insert the date filters, in the second step, ask me the date filters again and my parameters fields again.
    Thank you again.

  • Problems with consuming SAP BW WSDL in Crystal Reports 2008

    Hello,
I am trying to use the WSDL generated from the SAP BW in Crystal Reports 2008 using the XML and Web Services driver, but when I input the WSDL url Crystal does not interpret the url passed in as a WSDL url and the Services, Port and Method drop downs are blank.
If I manually input the values I get the error below from Crystal
    "Logon failed.
Details: Web Service Location is invalid
WSDL Exception (at /wsdl:definitions/wsdl:portType/wsp:Policy): faultCode=INVALID_WSDL:Encountered unexpected element
    'Policy'."
I know this is a valid WSDL as I have tested it with Xcelsius 2008 and I am able to get data back in Xcelsius. I found SAP note 1485601 that talks about Crystal Reports not being able to reading a WSDL generated by a SAP system.
               https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap/support/notes/1485601
Based on the error message from Crystal above I feel that Crystal is unable to read the WSDL URL, has anyone else encountered this issue, if so is there a possible work around.
We are running Crystal Reports 2008 V1 SP3 FP 3 and the SAP Integration Kit is also on the same service pack and patch level.
Any help or insight into the issue will be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    Ingo,
I am using the "XML and Web Services" connection option in Crystal Reports, and using a HTTP WSDL.Here is a sample of how WSDL url generated by SAP BW.
    http://servername:8000/sap/bc/srt/wsdl/bndg_DF6E553E117931F19C6B001560A1B616/wsdl11/allinone/ws_policy/document?sap-client=100
We have a two structure BW query (one for keyfigures and one as characteristic structure ), I know that this will cause the structure for the characteristics to show up as a single field and each element of the structure will result in a row of data, but we need the individual elements on the structure and we were hoping to get around the MDX driver limitation by using the web service connection.
The data in the Crystal Reports 2008 needs to be in a crosstab layout as shown below, but if we use the Crosstab expert the key figures are stacked one under the other and also we cannot get the labels from the KPI structure to show up on the Crystal Reports.
                   Characteristic Structure
                 Column1            Column2                     Column3
    Label 1          KeyFigure 1          KeyFigure 2                    KeyFigure 3
    Label 2          KeyFigure 1          KeyFigure 2                KeyFigure 3
    Label 3          KeyFigure 1          KeyFigure 2                    KeyFigure 3
This layout is already built in a Web Template and therefore we were planning on using the WSDL to get the layout directly into Crystal report, but I keep running into the WSDL error when I try to consume the WSDL in Crystal.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

  • Cannot see System DSN in Crystal Reports 2008 on Vista/Windows 2008

I've been making quite a bit of progress in switching migrating our Crystal Reports 8.0 reports and apps to Crystal Reports 2008 on our Windows 2008 server, but am currently stuck on a DSN issue that I hope someone here can help me out with.
When I go to select a new ODBC data source in Crystal Reports 2008, the only ODBC data sources that show up in the list are User DSNs.  These reports will be served via our intranet website, so I need to use System DSNs.  The same is true on both my development computer running 64-bit Vista and the production server running Windows Server 2008.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (C#) for development along with Crystal Reports 2008 (not the Crystal Reports Basic that comes with Visual Studio).
How can I use a System DSN?  Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

    Hi, Paul;
The first thing to check is to ensure you are creating a 32 bit ODBC DSN, and not a 64 bit one. Crystal Reports 2008 is 32 bit only.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 install on Windows Server 2008

I am trying to do a typical install of Crystal Reports 2008 on Windows Server 2003 and I keep getting an error that says "ReportConvTool.dll failed to register" and then the same error for other dll's, Myinfoview.dll, Encyclopedia.dll, etc.. What can be the problem?
I installed on a Vista machine with no problems.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi,
I will not be able to provide the 'why' of this issue but per my research, these are how other users have done to get through this issue:
Please ensure that your Windows Server 2003 version is supported in your version of CR 2008 by going through the platform support document in our SMP
    First scenario:
Continue with your installion ignoring the error message and manually register those DLLs afterwards
    Second scenario
Continue with your installation ignoring the error message. Go to Add/remove programs and uninstall CR 2008 and reinstall it anew
    Third scenario
Those DLLs indicates you have other BO products installed in that Windows server 2003. If it is just a test box, remove those products and reinstall them.
I've listed the steps from easy to complex and hopefully one resolves your issue.
Worst scenario, please log a ticket to Support through our Service Market Place (SMP)

  • Crystal reports 2008 SP1 missing in BusinessObjects Crystal Reports website

We have used Crystal reports 2008 as a reporting utility in our application and have released our product last year. During our release the latest software available  was Crystal reports 2008 base + SP1 + SP2 + Fix Pack 2.7 and same was mentioned in our documentation as mentioned in BELOW.
The current supported version of Crystal Reports is Crystal Reports 2008 with
Service Pack 2 and Fixpack 2.7. The installation sequence is as follows:
    1. Install Crystal Reports 2008 base.
    2. Install Crystal Reports 2008 SP1.
    3. Install Crystal Reports 2008 SP2.
    4. Install Fixpack 2.7. This can be found under the hotfix section on the web site.
    Questions
    1) Now the issue is that, Crystal reports 2008 SP1  is NOT available for download in the "Business Objects u2013 Crystal Reports Runtime Packages". Why was it removed? Any clue? Without this our instructions doesn't hold good.
    2) If Crystal reports 2008 SP1 will NOT be available any more then what is the equivalent installable for "Crystal reports 2008 base + SP1 + SP2 + Fix Pack 2.7" to be used?  Can Crystalreports 2008 SP3 Full Build + Fix Pack 3.3 be used instead of "Crystal reports 2008 base + SP1 + SP2 + Fix Pack 2.7" ?
    Pls Clarify.

    Hello,
Download Service Pack 3.0 full build: https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009989492010E/cr2008_sp3_fullbuild.zip
and then Fix Pack 3.3: https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100016815822010E/cr2008fp33.exe
Then you and your users don't need to go through all of those upgrade steps.
    Thank you

  • How to use CRAXDDRT.DLL in crystal report 2008?

    Hello All,
We have purchased Crystal report 2008 Full software.
We need to insert BLOB field into Crystal report 2008 at runtime using *CRAXDDRT.DLL*.
How can I insert OLE object and bind it at Runtime using crystal report 2008?
Is it possible to insert Ole Object runtime using crystal report 2008? If yes how and if not is there alternative to perform this job.
Please let me know your feedback.
    Thanks

CrxDDrt.dll is only provided in order for the Crystal Reports designer in the .NET IDE.
    1) You are not licensed to use this CraxDDrt.dll
    2) Even if you were, in previous versions of CR, there were licensing implications to using the craxDDrt.dll (read $$)
    3) Once your project would be done, using CR 2008, you would not be able to distribute the runtime as there is no CR MSM or MSI that contains the craxDDrt.dll and it's supporting runtime.
In your original post you say:
    "I need to show Word and Pdf file in to Crystal report 2008 using CRAXDDRT.DLL";
I do not understand why you'd need to do this using the craxddrt.dll? You should be able to insert a BLOB field using the RAS SDK for .NET and CR 2008. Now, one hting you will have to keep in mind. If you insert a multipage .doc or .pdf file into the report, you will only get the first page of that document. I suggest you try this in the CR designer first. Always remember that if you can not do a certain thing in the designer, you will not be able to do it at runtime either. Giving all the limitations above, if you are still interested in doing this using RAS, let me know and I'll set you up with some resources to get you going.

  • Failed to retrieve data from the database crystal reports 2008 in SAP  B1

    Hello friends,
I am using Crystal report 2008 with SAP B1 PL 8.8. When I run any report,  it runs correctly from Crystal Report. But whenever I try to open the same report through SAP ( Tools -> Preview External Crystal Report ), it prompts the parameters for that report and then open up the crystal report window and throws an Error message ("failed to retrieve data from the database. Details [Database Vendor Code: 156]").
Please any one suggest me the corrective solution.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Keyur Raval.

I had the same problem in SAP B1 2007. Report worked fine except when it was open from B1. Generally there may be different problems. In my case the same problem was caused by using some procedure which was in a specific schema. Changing the schema into "dbo" solved the problem.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 and Excel data source

I want to use a large Excel-sheet (with 139569 lines) as a data source for a report. Crystal Reports 2008 only seems to accept Excel sheets as a data source if they are stored in Excel 97-2003 format. But, then there is a limit of 65536 lines and I miss more than half of the data I need to process. Does anyone have an idea how I can solve this problem??

    Hello,
No work around in CR when connecting to xls files. CR can only use xls files which has the 65K row limit. Our next version does support xlxs files though. Cr for VS 2010 is available, no Designer outside of the IDE though. CR 2011 is still in beta and no release data announced yet.
For now all you can do is limit your sheets to 65k or export your XLS files to Access, must also be an MDB file type, not the new extended type. Once in an Access database now you can use it as your data sources.
You can use a temp database so it gets destroyed each time or simple delete all records. Up to you how to manage it.
    Thank you
