Crystal reports features - meaning?

I am new to crystal reports and would like to know the meaning of the following supported features (I found these features from the pdf here ([http://www.businessobjects.com/pdf/products/crystalreports/crxi_feat_ver_ed.pdf|http://www.businessobjects.com/pdf/products/crystalreports/crxi_feat_ver_ed.pdf]):-
   1. Conditional reports
   2. Top/bottom N reports
   3. Parameterized N Value for Top N Style Reports
   4. Form-style reports
   5. Mailing labels
   6. Heterogeneous data sources
   7. Ad hoc SQL command
   8. Group-by, aggregation and SQL expressions non SQL database servers
   9. Smart navigation: group tree, drilldown, search
  10. Geographic maps
  11. Customizable cross-tabs
  12. Conditional formatting on charts
  13. Sorting on groups and detail records

1. Conditional reports
2. Top/bottom N reports
3. Parameterized N Value for Top N Style Reports
4. Form-style reports
5. Mailing labels
6. Heterogeneous data sources
7. Ad hoc SQL command
8. Group-by, aggregation and SQL expressions non SQL database servers
9. Smart navigation: group tree, drilldown, search
10. Geographic maps
11. Customizable cross-tabs
12. Conditional formatting on charts
13. Sorting on groups and detail records
Well, I will try, Depending on the version you are considering, these options may or may not be available.
1.  output is based on some condition, this can be static or dynamic.
2.  Top X of any number of items., for example, you have 100 scores, you can show the top, 5, 10, 15, or whatever number you wish.  You can also do bottom 5, 10, 15... etc
3. Same as above but the number of items in the report, is determined by a Parameter.  Ie, you are prompted to enter the number.
4. Report designed to look like a form.  (Ie.  Like an excel spreadsheet, or a table in word)
5. Same as above, but form matches a pre-defined mail label format.
6. You can have multple data sources in one report.
7. You can "write a command in SQL, and run a report from the command"
8. You can group, using SQL expressions, even if you are not running on a SQL database.
9. Ways that you can search / group/ navigate data in report design.
10. Your output will display on a map, "This is normally an add on"
11. You can customize your cross tab reports.
12. Conditional formatting, formatting controled by a static, or dynamic condition.  ie... if value x = 3 then crred (Turns the # 3 red)
13. You can sort groups, and the details (all records displayed) will sort as your groups are sorted.
Ie... Group 1, Time (By Hour)
Group 2, # of Widgits
Group 3, Salesman Name
Detail, will be sorted by time, (by the hour, and then # of widgits, then Salesmans name.
Hope this helps.
If you already have Crystal, try looking at the sample reports, they show many of the features listed above.

  • Schedule Crystal Reports Feature?

    Hello Experts,
I have read that scheduling reports designed in CR is currently not an integrated feature of B1 but is planned for a feature release.
I was wondering if anyone had any information pertaining to this release? (i.e. anticipated date?)  This could greatly impact the decision to procure CR Server or wait depending on timeline.
I read no mention if this feature in the "What's New in 8.82?" document and have heard rumours that version B1 9 may not arive until 2013 so I am wary about when this feature may arrive.
    Any information is most welcome.
    Thank you,
    Richard

    Hi,
As far as i know, SAP has yet to announce the actual launch date for CR scheduler, Lets just hope that when 8.82 will be release this feature will be included..
-I think, the best way to solve this is to setup a crystal server..

  • Oracle reports to Crystal reports

    Hi
we have existing Oracle reports executed using Oracle Reports Server.
Is it possible to replicate same scnario in Crystal reports. Means can we replace Oracle reports with Crystal Reports.
What all component do we need?
Do we need to use Crystal report Server

    You have a few options.
I can't really speak to Oracle reports but I can give you a quick explanation of how you could embed Crystal Reports inside of your applications
Option 1. Crystal Reports for Eclipse - This allows you create reports inside of Eclipse and embed those reports inside java applications using our Java runtime engine. In this scenario you would be placing our runtime inside your application.
    http://diamond.businessobjects.com/eclipse
Option 2. For higher report loads and extra features you could use something like Crystal Reports Server(CRS). CRS has backend services contain the report engine. These reports can be run outside your application and then the output is streamed to your application via a client API.
    Hope this helps

  • Crystal reports 2008 sp3 : An error has occurred while attempting to load t

    Hello,
Please forgive me for posting in the CR .NET forum because we are using the full Crystal Reports 2008 product and I did not see a category for it.  If there is a better forum for this question, please let me know or feel free to move it.
We are having trouble deploying our crystal reports 2008 reports to a Windows Server 2008 R2 server in an aspx application...
I have been working on this issue for 4-days and cannot seem to make any progress, so I would really appreciate your help.
    Our Environment:
    Development Computer (32-bit, WinXP)
VS2008 (fully updated, was not installed with its Crystal Reports feature)
Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 (downloaded and installed "cr2008_sp3_fullbuild")
    Database Server (64-bit)
"SERVER2" is a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 server, fully updated
    Web Server (64-bit)
      "SERVER3" is a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Web server.
We have an application that is installed on the Web server and it pulls data from the database server.
The webpages are accessing the database properly.  There is a ShowReport.aspx webpage that has the
CrystalReportsViewer on it.  We send parameters and logon information to ShowReport.aspx.  ShowReport
works properly on our development computer and the report looks good, but it fails on the web server.
We downloaded CRRuntime_12_3_mlb.msi (X86) from SAP/CR and installed it on the web server without any issues.
Our application pool on the web server for this application is set to 32-bit mode.  When I launch the
application, it works properly with the database and displays data on web pages, but when I try to
view a report on ShowReport, I get the following error message:
An error has occurred while attempting to load the Crystal Reports runtime.
Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.
Please install the appropriate Crystal Reports redistributable (CRRedist*.msi) that contains the version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium)  that is required.
According to everything that I have read, I have properly matched the DLLs: On the development computer, "cr2008_sp3_fullbuild" was installed; On
the web server, "CRRuntime_12_3_mlb.msi (X86)" was installed.  They are both Crystal Reports 2008 and not .NET.  CR.NET was not installed on our development computer, so our application was built with full Crystal Reports 2008 SP3.  On our development computer, .ENGINE is 12.0.2000.0 and
the same version is on the web server.
So, I am completely at a loss as to why we are encountering this error.  Help, Please!!!
    Thank you in advance,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Did you set your project for X86 mode only? If not do so and rebuild and deploy your app.
    Thank you

  • Report with Summary & Detail - Exporting to PDF in Crystal Report

    Hi,
I am using Crystal Reports XI (release 2). I am trying out a report with Summary and Detail sections.
    Requirement:
    1.     Report should display both Summary and Detail Sections
    2.     Summary section should be displayed first followed by Detail Section
    3.     A field in summary section should have a hyperlink to Detail Section
    4.     On clicking the hyperlink the user should be navigated to the corresponding detail record
    5.     User should be able to download the whole report as a single PDF (i.e., both summary and detail together)
    Implementation in Crystal Report:
This feature could be implemented using
    a.     Linked On Demand Sub report
    b.     Using Hide (Drill down ok) option
    c.     Hyperlinks
    Issue Faced:
I used the on demand sub report option. When i clicked on the sub report (hyperlink), the details get displayed. But the details get displayed in separate viewer and hence when we export to PDF both summary and detail are not getting exported together. User has to select each detail report and export to PDF. Is this a limitation in CR XI? - proprietary Crystal Report features, such as drill-down and on-demand subreports, are supported only in the native Crystal Report format. These special features are ignored when exporting a report to a non-Crystal format like pdf.
Is there any workaround for exporting both the summary and detail (in subreport) as a single PDF file?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Viji.

    Hi
Hyperlink would not be a solution to what you are asking for.
If you want to see the records related to a particular employee id by clicking on emp id, you can try the below:
    - Apply a group on employee id on the main report.
    - Insert a subreport with the required fields and place it on the Employee id Group header. You can put a name of the subreport as "Check Employee details" or something else as per requirement and make it a on demand subreport.
    - Link the subreport on Employee id.
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Deplying Crystal report on Oracle Appliaction Server

    Hi
Our current application  has Oracle reports deployed on Oracle AS and Oracle Report Server. Can we replicate same scenario for Crystal report.
Means can we use Crystal Report on Oracle App Server / Oracle Report Server. Or do I need to use Crystal report Server

    Post Author: synapsevampire
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
You need to understand the potential pitfalls of you process first.
First I'll assume that you have joined the two datasources on some field, something that you should include in your post. Please state in your next posting.
When you do so, then all of the processing related to joining the data happens within Crystal, and it is NOT a fast database server.
So it can take a looooooooooooooong time to do this, depending upon the number of rows and the joins involved. You haven't posted anything about the amount of rows returned by either query form Oracle or SQL Server, so we can't speak to that. Instead you say that you did it with Oracle and Access, which is pretty much meaningless here. The Access or Oracle table could have had only a few rows, this isn't a matter of Crystal slowing because certain types of connectivity or databases are used, it is a matter of volume.
I would consider linking the Oracle tables into the SQL Server database, or as many do, LINK (not import) all of the tables into an Access database and then do the queries in Access and expose a query as the source for the Crystal Report.
In either case, something will need to do the processing, and having Crystal do so is probably the slowest of your options.

  • Dynamicaly Change in crystal report

    Hi,
How to insert a user modification fiela in crystal report. It means i need to enter some thing then after print the report .How is it possible?

I cannot understand what you are trying to achieve here.
How to insert a user modification fiela in crystal report
What do you mean by user modification field?
It means i need to enter some thing then after print the report
Are you trying to say that user need to choose an option from the field which needs to be shown in the report and then you can print the report?
If it is then you have to use Dynamic Parameters, you can create one from going into Field Explorer, right click on to the parameter and then choose "new" and then from the options choose "Dynamic" instead of static. Then choose the field which you would like the user to select an option from.
Place that parameter into your report and when you run the report it will ask use to choose an option from the dynamic parameter and when chosen and clicked OK it will show it in the report.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there any difference b/w Crystal reports accessed from Crystal reports XI R2 and Crystal reports accessed from BO Eneterprise Crystal Reports Explorer

    Post Author: Sriramkusumanchi
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hi All,
We are using BO XI R2 version.
    1. Under this version, the BO Enterprise product consists of Crystal Reports Explorer feature through which we can develop the crystal reports.
    2. And under the same version, the Crystal Reports XI R2 product consists of Crystal Reports feature through which we can develop crystal reports.
I want to know, wheher there is any difference in the features for developing crystal reports through point 1 and point 2. If yes, then which product is the better option to go for Crystal reports development. (please note: I want the all the scheduling, automatic printing, printing on pre printed forms, etc features to be supported)
Please help us to solve this confusion ASAP.

    Hi Nancy,
The server info still needs to be updated. Are you setting location for each subreport also?
Possibly this registry key will help, I only have CR 2008 installed so you'll have adjust for what ever you are using:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - VerifyStoredProceduresOnFirstRefresh = No
    and
    VerifyStoredProceduresOnSetLocation = No
    And
    VerifyWhenDBDriverUpgraded = No
    And
    ViewOutOfPlaceSubreports = No
Close CR designer before making any changes. And the usual warning about modifying the registry.
    Thank you

  • Disabling copy feature in Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP2

    Hi ,
When I tried Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP2 , I saw a new feature which allows user to copy content of the report after selecting it. I am using .net 4.0 winform application. I want to suppress this feature. I want the selection of objects in report to work as earlier version.  I could hide the copy icon in toolbar . But that doesn't change the way selections happens in the report . Please tell me how to suppress the copy feature completely when we use SP2 ?

    Hi Jijo Paul,
We found a hidden method to disable the copy as it used to be. It is hidden meaning it's not supported so if you run into any problems using it or if it gets removed there is nothing we can do for you but give this a try:
// this hides the button and disables the CTRL C command
    crystalReportViewer1.ShowCopyButton = false;
    crystalReportViewer1.SelectionMode = CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.SelectionMode.None;
    Thanks again

I am not really familiar with all of the options for charting and what is or isnt in the bundled version.
You can download the CR XI R2 developer edition eval from the website and see if it gives you the graph options that you want.  If it does then I think you can buy it at an upgrade price since you already have the bundled edition.

On the preview window when i Right click on the hyperlink i can see the option "Go To Hyperlink"
Is it possible to hide the "Go To Hyperlink" feature?

    Hi Arun,
If you don't want the user to be able to go to a hyper link then convert it to a string. Then the option won't appear... No option to turn it off.

  • Drill down expand and collapse feature not available  Crystal Reports Desig

    Hi,
Am I right in my understanding that drill down feature opens in a new tab and it cannot be made expand and collapse even using JRC.
    Please advise & thank you
    Selvi

    Hi Slevi,
You are right with the understanding of the Drill down function. To have a drill down function available the minimum requirement is have at least a single group in the report.
When we have a group with some underlying data and then when we would like to see data for a particular group, we can see a u201Cmagnifying glassu201D symbol which indicates that there is data for this group and we can use the Drill down function.
When you drill on a particular group, the data for that group is shown in a new tab.
I hope this provides some information about the Drill down function used in Crystal Reports.
    Regards,
    Prashant Saduwale.
