CS3 camera raw 4.0 straighten tool

I have CS3 and the straighten tool no longer works in Camera Raw on my photos. It just reverts to the crop tool after I let the line go. Any ideas? It used to work earlier.
Thanks,
Todd

> "I have CS3 and the straighten tool no longer works in Camera Raw on my photos."
Are you SURE it isn't working? Does it identify a crop with edges parallel to the line you drew? If so, it is working.
> "It just reverts to the crop tool after I let the line go".
Yes, but as long as that crop has edges parallel to the line, why not? Note that you can rotate this crop to change the alignment, by dragging just outside one of the corners.

  • PS CS3, Camera Raw 4.6 Update and Nikon D810 NEF File Reading Issue

      Currently Have Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9.
According to Adobe, Camera Raw 4.6 supports Nikon D810 NEF files.  I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.6 Update. When
I try to open Nikon D810 NEF files, I get Photoshop CS3  error that says
"cannot complete request your because it is not the right kind of
document. These NEF files wont open in Adobe Bridge at all.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hey,
Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
    2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs  with Bridge or PS CS3.
This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right?    Am I missing anything.   here?    Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work?   Will I be at any disadvantage.   Am I missing anything.   here?

  • CS3 Camera RAW is used by Elements v6

    Dear friends,
My computer has both Photoshop CS3 and Elements v6 installed. I am on a Mac platform.
When I am teaching Photoshop Elements to students I want them to see the version of Camera RAW which will appear when they select File/Open with Bridge. On my computer, when I make this choice, I get the version of Bridge and the RAW converter intended for CS3. I believe it appears differently from what my students will see when they make this choice on their computers at home.
Am I correct? If so, how can I prevent Elements from using portions of CS3?
I have checked preferenes in Elements but can't find the right choice.
    Thanks for your help.
    Mary Lou

There are differences. You won't get the Tone Curve, HSL/Grayscale, Split-toning, Lens Corrections, etc. tabs.
And you won't get to choose a color space and file size (but you can select 8-bit or 16-bit). Elements Raw has the red-eye tool, but not the dust/retouch tool. It is also missing the color-sampler tool (but does have the white balance tool).

  • CS3 Camera Raw Too Many Files Open at the Same time alert!!!

Please help me. I keep getting this error message in Camera Raw that says there are too many files open at the same time - but I only have 100 open:( Please help - I was getting this error with CS2 and thought upgrading to CS3 would fix it and it didn't!!!

    > "10 or 100 - you can quickly go through a stack of images in ACR and make any desired changes you want. Whether making the same or similar adjustment to similar files, or making radically different adjustments to different images as appropriate".
I've done this with far more than 100! I think my maximum is 425 raw files, invoking ACR from Bridge without Photoshop even loaded, and it worked well. (I've also done 115 JPEGs in order to crop them under extreme time constraints).
It can be very slick. For example, if I use a ColorChecker a number of times in a shoot, it is easy to select just the set (perhaps 100 or so) that a particular ColorChecker shot applies to and set the WB for all of them.
Furthermore, in case people don't know, you can set ratings on raw images while many of them are open in ACR. (Just click under the thumbnail). It isn't as powerful as Lightroom, but it is not to be dismissed.
I suspect that it is possible to apply sensor-dust-healing to lots of images in the same way, and certainly it is easy to apply presets based on various selections.
Perhaps with AMG (Adobe Media Gallery) it will be sensible to use the above capability to process 100s of raw files, then create a set of web pages for the best of them, in not much more time than it would have taken in Lightroom. I judge that Lightroom is the "proper" tool for the job (perhaps after 1.1!), but Bridge+ACR can go a long way.

  • In Bridge CS3, Camera Raw 4.4.1. doesn't open

I try to open ARW-files (RAW-SONY) by clicking thumbnails in Bridge CS3,
but Camera Raw 4.4.1. doesn't open. I have all the necessary plugins installed.
Camera Raw 4.4.1. only starts up by directly using Photoshop.
    what can be the problem?

To be honest, yes it is :-(
The Bridge update is 58,9 MB and the PSCS3 upgrade is 170 MB
E-mail can only send attachments from max 10 MB. If you have an ftp-account you can sent me the log in using my e-mail adress that is under my profile (double click on my name). I can use the ftp route to sent them to you.

  • Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw Update: unable to open Nikon D5200 Raw files

I have a Nikon D5200, so I cannot view my raw files (.NEF) files in photoshop CS3 and I downloaded the Camera Raw 4.6 update, and installed it using the manual installation instructions found here: Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 4.6 update. After restarting photoshop and attempting to open a .NEF file, I still receive the error "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. I have also tried previous updates (4.5 and 4.4.1) and they have also not worked. How can I fix this?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The D5200 is supported in Camera Raw 7.3 and later. Older versions of Camera Raw cannot read D5200 Raw files.
Raw 7.3 is only compatible with CS6, CC or CC 2014
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So you'll never be able to open Raw D5200 files in CS3.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
Choices: buy CS6 or join the Cloud.
Free alternative: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all D5200 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

  • Camera Profiles in CS3 Camera Raw 4.6

I've had a major computer failure and had to buy a new one.
I loaded PS CS3 again, did the upgarde which seems to have been  sucessful and now have Camera Raw 4.6, but when I go to look at the  camera profiles it only shows ACR 4.4, ACR 3.6, none of the camera  profiles are visable nor is the option for Adobe standard which I had  before.
I've gone to the Adobe web site to download the latest Camera Raw, which  for CS3 is 4.6, which I already have.
I downloaded the Beta versions of the camera profiles from Adobe labs a  few years back and everything worked fine. My new computer doesn't have  the connections to enable me to run my old hard drive (yet) which has  the camera profiles download on it otherwise I would have loaded them up  again.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    James

I mistyped. Bridge is telling me that it is failing to convert to DNG because the versions aren't compatible.
How do I tell it to select a certain ACR? Is that a Bridge option?
Right now, I don't get any thumbnail previews on my RAW files. When I try to open them in Photoshop from Bridge, it tells me that it cannot open the file. I downloaded the current DNG converter and now Bridge can't convert because the versions don't match.
I must be missing a simple step if this is working for other people...I've checked Photoshop several times and the Common files folder to make sure the 4.6 version is in there and it is. So it must be the DNG part?

  • Opening iPhoto 8 JPG file with Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw editor

I have all my photos stored in my iPhoto 8 library. I have both RAW (CR2) and JPG images. iPhoto 8 opens the CR2 images with Photoshop Raw editor, but I want to use iPhoto to open JPG images with the Photoshop Raw editor using Camera Raw.
How do I do this without having to export JPG images and opening from Photoshop?
    Thanks!
    SP

    SP:
If you're trying to use the RAW editor on a jpg it can't be done. It will only work on the RAW file. If you are wanting to edit the RAW file from within iPHoto with CS3 then set CS3 to be the editor of choice in iPhoto's general preferences. Next go to the Advanced iPhoto preference pane and select the option "User RAW when using external editor". That will open the RAW file with Photoshop's raw editor. When you finish you MUST save the new file to the Desktop and import as a new file.
For some general info on using Photoshop with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • CS3 Camera Raw PlugIn for Canon S90 .CR2 files

What plug in is needed for Photoshop CS3 to read the .CR2 files from my Canon S90 camera, and where can I get it?

The S90 is not yet officially supported by Camera Raw.
Eventually, when it is supported, you can use the latest version of the DNG Converter to process a S90 raw file into a DNG file, which can then be read in CS3 (e.g., using Camera Raw 4.6). This will enable you to perform S90 raw processing in CR 4.6.

  • What ver. of CS3 Camera Raw will work with the Nikon D5000?

Just upgraded my Nikon D100 with a D5000. Now PSCS3 will not reconize my raw images. Is there anything I can do other than spend money on a new version on PS?

There is not, nor will there ever be, a version of Camera Raw for CS3 that will open your Nikon NEF files directly.  It will be necessary for you to download the latest DNG converter and create DNG (Digital Negative) copies of your raw files.  Then you will be able to open those DNG files with ACR in Photoshop CS3.  The last version of camera raw that was created for Photoshop CS3 was version 4.6.

  • CS3, camera raw 4.4 & vista: CR2 files

When I try to open CR2 files from Canon 40D I am getting "cannot complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." I use windows vista. I have downloaded the latest updates to CS3 and camera raw. I had this problem with CS2, read the forums, downloaded a trial version of CS3, updated everything and it worked fine. So I went ahead and purchased CS3. only to find that I can no longer access my CR2 files. Any suggestions. please?
    thanks.

    Shane,
The Camera Raw plug-in is updated approximately 4 times each year, and has been updated a number of times since CS3 was released. The latest officially released version is available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
Additionally, there is a beta version of Camera Raw 4.6 available here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php?title=Camera_Raw_4.6
Both of these versions support your camera. The latest release, which is in beta, works well. I think it is primarily in beta form so that Adobe can get feedback on the newly supported cameras. I have not found any problems with it.
On either one of those referenced webpages there are complete instructions on how to install the new plug-in. It would be senseless to repeat those instructions here. Just be advised that you need to follow those instructions precisely and REPLACE the existing plug-in in order for it to work properly. Do not rename the old version, do not put it in a subfolder, or camera raw will cease to function.
Also, when Camera Raw 4.6 is finally released, that will probably be the last version of Camera Raw that will work with CS3. Photoshop CS4 has been announced, and will probably begin shipping within the next few weeks. The Camera Raw plug-in for the new version of Photoshop will not be compatible with Photoshop CS3.

  • CS3 & Camera RAW 5

I want to make sure I have this correct.
-CS3 is uncompatiable with camera RAW 5
-There are no undates that will make it compatiable
-Converting my camera RAW 5 files to DNG files is the only why to make them work in CS3
-If I was wish to aviod converting all my files to DNG I must upgraded to CS4 to read camera RAW 5
    Is that all correct?
If so, is there an inexpensive way to upgrade my Photoshop and Bridge CS3 to CS4.
    Thanks,
    Brady

    Btphoto86 wrote:
That seems inexpensive enough if I can upgraded
my entire desgin sweet package for that price. Or even just photoshop and bridge.
I assume I find that upgraded somewhere on Adobe's website.
    Any idea where?
    Thanks,
    Brady
    Brady,
An upgrade of the entire suite from CS3 to CS4 would cost considerably more. I have used Photoshop since ver 3 and also bought Indesign 1 or 2. I was able to purchase the entire Academic version CS3 suite (outright purchase, not an upgrade) for a good price, hardly more than upgrading PS and Indesign separately. When you upgrade Photoshop, you have to insert a disc from a previous version to prove previous ownership, and the upgrade did not appear to accept my PSCS3 DVD and I had to use the PSCS2 disc as proof. There may be a workaround, but you should check this out if you do not have previous versions of PS.

  • Photoshop CS3/Camera Raw and Nikon D5100

    Hi,
I have Photoshop CS3 and a Nikon D5100 and I am unable to open my RAW files.
    Any ideas?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
The D5100 has been supported since Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.4 which is only compatible with CS5 and later. CS3 is too old.
    Either
    Join the Cloud, or
Join the Photoshop Photography Program, or
Buy Lightroom 5, open the Raw files, save to TIFF then edit the TIFFs in CS3, or
Keep CS3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert all your D5100 Raw files to DNGs. Then edit the DNGs in CS3.

  • CS3 Camera Raw Update

I tried to to do a update from Photoshop CS3 for Camera Raw 4.4 and the DNG converter. It came back as no updates available. It this normal? Do I have get Camera Raw using the manual download process? I have always been able to get Camera Raw updates using the update methid previousy.

The ACR update for Photoshop will never be immediately available for the menu 'Help=>Updates". When ACR4.4 was released there was an implication that the 'help-update' would be available the next week, but I believe the problems associated with this version and its DNG converter may have affected "how it's supposed to work".
Regarding whether the problems affect you, see this information:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2008/03/important_lightroom_14_and_cam.html

    H
i did notice that in cs5 camera raw i can open the same raw file @ 32bit but in cs3 @16
i talking about the same image
is there something wrong in the cs3 installation ?
i did remember cs3 is able to open raw file (like 5d mark2) in 32bit
    thanks

The first thing I would suggest is, in Photoshop, go to Help/About Plug-Ins and click on Camera Raw to verify what version is installed. There should only be one version listed, and listed only once. If there are more, then you need to get rid of the extras.
The DNG converter is a program that will create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw images. It takes all of the raw image data and copies it to a new file format. The raw data is unmodified, and the DNG file is a standardized and open documented file format. But the DNG converter will not list the actual files. You choose the folder that contains your original raw images, and then the converter will put the copies wherever you choose to put them. But if your camera is supposed to be supported by the latest version of Camera Raw, I don't know if converting will solve the problem. It won't hurt anything; your raw files are still intact.
It would be helpful if you could describe your computer; operating system, how much RAM, a little information to allow the experts (of which I am NOT one) to help you isolate and solve this problem.
