[CS3/CS4] Resource on Mac

Hi,
I my windows version of my plugin, I use a windows resource to contain a BMP image that is shown in my UI. The resource is named like: kSomeNameRsrcID and this works perfectly.
However, on the Mac I don't know how to add a named resource, I can drag the BMP into my xcode project, but I don't know how to reference the BMP.
Please give me a hint
Kind regards Toke

For ages I've been using the type below, you can also try RollOverIconButtonWidget or SimpleIconSuiteButtonWidget.
type PNGPictureWidget(kViewRsrcType)
: Widget(ClassID = kIconSuiteButtonWidgetBoss)
CControlView;
PNGIconAttributes;
Then in your widget, change PictureWidget to PNGPictureWidget.
Below the CControlView fields of the original PictureWidget, append these PNGIconAttributes fields:
kIconCentering, // Centering
kIconFlushLook, // Look Raised/Lowered fStyles
kFalse, // draw Well..

  • CS3/CS4/CS5 Win/Mac: How can I convert a Windows string to mac?

    Hi
I have a Windows coded string. I like to convert this string into a Macintosh string. This means several characters are changed, e.g. ä, ö or ü.
Is there a method in the Indesign SDK?
How can I convert a windows string into a macintosh string and back?
    Thanks

I don't think this should work that way. If this string is in resource file, use UTF-8 encoding and make PMString do its job. use kResourceUTF8Encoded in StringTable:

  • CS3/CS4 Performance; recommendations for LAN/Server Env ?

Id like to hear from the admins (or users for that matter) dealing with a significant amount of Adobe CS3/CS4 users, in a LAN/Server environment.
What are the specs of the machines (PC's) that run it well ?
Are you using font managers ?
Are you the users editing files located on the server ?
Im running all machines well above Adobe spec, Server 03 domain, Gbit Lan, Citrix ASA router.
The guys here are of course whining about Macs, but they also state that font manager software would help resource usage on the workstations. When the apps launch in the AM, performance is great, as the day wears on, machine performance lags, and PS or Illustrator will eat itself. Event viewer has no other details except for App Hang.  Often times, while trying to save the work back out to the server; but other times just during general use.
Just wondering of there is something I could be doing to better to help these guys.
Anyone have thoughts on this ?
    Keith

How about some details on those machines? CS3 and CS4 are very resource hungry and I've found the best environment is Vista 64 with at 8 gigs of RAM (or more) a fast processor and fast harddrives.
FWIW, it's not all that unusual to need to restart some of these applications after a lot of use.
I know it's a pain but it certainly cures a world of ills when things start to slow down.
BTW, that holds true on the Mac side as well.

  • Photoshop CS3 & CS4 crashing on open (iMac 10.4.11)

I've had Photoshop CS3 for a while now and working just fine on my iMac OS X 10.4.11.
All of the sudden it started to crash upon opening it. Bridge opened fine, but when I double-click to open a file in Photoshop, it crashes too.
I have tried Disk Repair and Disk Permissions repair, I have tried un-installing Photoshop and reinstalling it.
I even downloaded the trial version CS4 and that crashes the same way too.  I did upgrade the latest versions including Camera Raw. All updated. I do have 2 plug-ins (NoiseNinja & Portraiture) but I uninstalled them in the CS4 version. I also deleted my Photoshop Preference file.
    The crash report say:
"2009-10-28 11:26:57.142 Adobe Photoshop CS4[652] CFLog (21): dyld returns 2 when trying to load /Library/ScriptingAdditions/QXPScriptingAdditions.osax/Contents/MacOS/QXPScriptingAdditio ns
SysBreakStr: An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred (primary). Exiting.
    Oct 28 11:26:59 iMAC crashdump[654]: Adobe Photoshop CS4 crashed"
The MAC has 4GB of SDRAM and under "System Memory" it says Free: 1.82GB, but under "Disk USage" it says "Space Free: 108.96GB".
Any other ideas? I've been searching through forums, facts and online for over a day now. I'm a photographer in the middle of my busiest week & month of the entire year and this is really crippling my work.
    Thank you
    J

and where is the rest of the crash report?
Part of the problem might be with /QXPScriptingAdditions -- some sort of Quark addition?

  • I am steaming - Thru CS3 - CS4 and now CS5 Fireworks is crap

All through CS3, CS4 and now CS5 Fireworks on 3 different machines Windows XP, Windows Vista and now Windows 7... simply is a crappily written app. And I have been using Fireworks since Macromedia and these problems have only appeared from Adobe.
Is it to drive folks to Photoshop? After working on it for about 30 min you get 'low on memory' 'internal error'... it is unconscionable that an application that is so expensive can be written so appallingly. And when you run through the forums you just get tons of complaints about the shoddy code at Adobe.
All of the computers are stacked with 4GB, this one has 16GB on a blazingly fast Phenom Black but that's not the killer... no other app crashes. Not the little $5 dollar apps, not anything. It is so frustrating. Can't someone buy this place and straighten it out!!! Macromedia was known for ridiculously great code and features.
Had anyone solved this problem... I here if you login in as Donald Duck it might go away. What kind of nonsense is that?
    Help!
    Noel

    xgarth
don't get so steamy. I am on your side and I actually met Adobe marketing VP in Australia and told him that his CS ****, mmm I mean suite is worthless on a Mac at least. He couldn't care less. They don't fix things they market "upgrades" so idiots like you and me will keep on spending. I for instance use Adobe and Macromedia products since mid 90s' and I must say that nothing has changed for me since FW3 or 4 and Photosop 5.5. Illustrator should always stayed simple but they managed to make it so fat it barely moves. Flash also became something it wasn't intended for and it's days are numbered by HTML5. Adobe Acrobat? you must be kidding. I still don't know what the F this is all about. and so on and so on....
You will grow out of it eventually like I did. It doesn't worth it. Believe me. Just "upgrade" if you must have some feature. I think DW and Flash are the only products that need to be upgraded because of the industry it's linked to (web). the rest are just tools that still do what they did 10 years ago. they are only "integrated" now.
There are other tools you can use, not many but there are or simply don't upgrade!!! this is the best way for you and I to tell Adobe what we think.

  • CS3 CS4 CS5 backwards compatible or just backwards?

Have just spent over a month talking with Adobe "Customer Service" - an offshore call centre whose entire capability seems to be to read from a script which says "Sir I understand your problem" - really? - "But all I can suggest is that you purchase CS5" - I had already! - "Or visit our online community".
Over a month - I may include the thread here - including a dozen telephone calls where I was occasionally hung up on and where I NEVER ONCE spoke with a technician who actually understood my problem.
I have client video projects stretching all the way back to Premiere CS2.
When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 (on PC) I was told to "start all my video projects from scratch" - that was the helpful answer from the Adobe "Customer Service" team! It appears as though the way CS4 handles native media formats is entirely non-compatible with CS3 or earlier.
Two months ago I purchased a Mac and CS5 suite. Again, my CS3 projects are not compatible it seems. One month ago my PC died.
I began a dialog with Adobe "Customer Service" looking for help.
I own Production Suite or Master Suite in CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 - so I'm not a software pirate - and have a reasonable expectation that I should attract a certain level of support: specifically, I would like to exchange my CS3 PC software for CS3 Mac - seems like the best way to run those older projects - BUT I would gladly take any advice you can provide!!
After over a month talking with a range of "Customer Service" people ranging from well-meaning but un-trained to straight-ahead rude people, I've been told to go buy the software somewhere else!
Adobe CS3 for Mac ships new from $800 to $1500 from eBay.
Boot Camp is an option since I own CS3 for PC but then I need to buy Windows and a Parallel software solution - also around $1200.
I no longer feel like such an evangelist for IP - when this is the service you get as a Genuine Adobe Customer.
I love using Adobe products but am disgusted at the total lack of service.
    Can anybody help?

Going from Windows to MAC with AVI, WMV, and converted VOB's (if done) may cause some funny things to happen.
I think I would check up what CODEC's those AVI and converted VOB's are using, and check if your MAC supports them, and also check if your MAC supports WMV.
"basically every kind of media you can import to PP" is probably different on Windows than it is on MAC.

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Will Adobe CS3+CS4 work in OS above 10.6.8 ?

I want to continue using CS3+CS4, mainly Dreamweaver CS3 and Fireworks CS4, plus some Photoshop & Acrobat Pro in CS4. All ran well on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (MA896LL) with OS 10.6.8. But this MBP failed recently, due to heat, and for my next Mac(s) two options are a 2010 Macbook (MC516LL) that can run OS 10.6, or a 2012 Mac Mini with i5 (MD387LL) that will not run OS 10.6 but does offer other benefits. (of course, running an OS higher than 10.6 also offers benefits!)
Will Dreamweaver-CS3 and Fireworks-CS4 run properly in all ways, with higher OS, with 10.7 or 8, 9, 10?
Does the kind of computer make a difference for this? For example, would these programs behave differently in OS 10.9 on the 2010-Macbook or 2012-Mini? (probably not, I assume)
These questions are important in deciding what to buy, but... now, because I don't have a Mac, I cannot do experiments (try the two programs with each OS) to see what happens. So I'm hoping you can help (thanks in advance!) by sharing your experience and knowledge.
FWIW, the Mac programs in CS3 and CS4 are 32 bit, if that makes any difference in OS-compatibility.

Yesterday the Macbook arrived (made in 2008, so it runs 10.6.8), and two installs (CS3, CS4) were successful.  For the next set of installations,* if Adobe requires a de-activation would the following plan work?
____My conclusion, after writing the paragraphs below, is "probably not" because (if Adobe doesn't check to see what computer CS is activated on) accepting this kind of de-activation would make it easy for someone to fake a de-activation by cloning the hard disk of a still-working computer, de-activating CS3/4 on that cloned disk-image, then continue using CS3/4 on the still-working computer and also (because they have fooled Adobe into thinking it's not active) an extra computer, using only one of the two activations.  So this probably isn't allowed by Adobe.  If necessary, probably I'll just have to contact Adobe, with the repairman to confirm the failure of my Macbook Pro with one of the CS3/4 installations.
    ____Well, here was the idea:
____My recently failed Macbook Pro had CS3 and CS4 installed.  The repairman recovered the entire hard drive (200 GB) and put it onto an external hard drive (4000 GB) as individual files and also as a cloned disk-image.  To de-activate, could I re-start the new computer in the old 10.6.8 (with "Startup Disk" in System Preferences) using this disk image, open Dreamweaver-CS3 (then deactivate) and Fireworks-CS4 (then deactivate)? Would the CS3 and CS4 on this disk-image be recognized by Adobe as being "one of my previous installs" that therefore would not count as being active, after they're deactivated?
____How to do this? I don't know much about clones. To get the old CS3/CS4 "recognized by Adobe" would this require putting the cloned "old Macbook Pro" into its own partition of a hard disk?  Or could I just start from the individual files of the un-cloned OS?  (In "System Startup" today, on another external hard disk I saw an OS 10.6.3 from a backup many years ago. I could choose it and re-start in 10.6.3, but... my question is about how to re-start so Adobe recognizes the old CS3/CS4 as a "previous activation on the old Macbook.")  Or maybe I could connect the hard disk with this cloned "old Macbook Pro" to my old half-working iMac, and de-activate CS3/4 from the iMac.
___ * The 2012 Mac Mini should arrive today, but I won't try CS3/CS4 on it (to see if it will install, and will run OK on 10.9.5) until later.  After doing the experiments, I'll report back about the results.

  • Illustrator CS3 crashes at launch (Mac OS 10.6.8)

    Hello everyone,
Can somebody please help me out from this.
I'm using Illustrator CS3 on Mac 10.6.8. As I remember, I had installed some new fonts which I doubt it may have caused the error. I tried removing the User>Library>Preferences>Illustrator Settings folder. Plus I validated all the fonts including the new fonts on FontBook. Still negative. So I can't figure out what's the actual cause and how to troubleshoot it.

    code,
Item 11) in 5) in the list below is about font cashes; item 1) is about moving fonts (Illy may reject fonts that go through validation). You may also try to move preferences/folders as described in 4). 6) may be needed.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
External media: It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

  • Export To Flash in Encore CS4 on the Mac

It has been widely reported (and I have confirmed) that Encore CS3 will not Build to Flash on a Mac running Leopard 10.5.5 and Quicktime 7.5.5 (the latest versions of Mac OS X and Quicktime). I would be most appreciative if anyone who has received Encore CS4 can determine if Build To Flash works on a Mac running OS 10.5.5 and Quicktime 7.5.5.
Thank you in advance for responding.
    Tom

Since no one has responded to my post on this issue, I can now provide the answer. First however, I want to insert the final comment in a long customer service request that I have had running with Adobe Technical Support since early August on this issue.
    "Monday, October 20, 2008 1:59:20 PM PDT
    Hello Tom,
Thank you for contacting Adobe® Web Support for assistance with Adobe
    Encore® CS3.
I understand that you are not able to export as flash from Encore CS3.
On my Mac, I have OS 10.5.5, and QuickTime 7.5.5. I tested this issue
with Encore CS3 and CS4. The export worked just fine on CS4, but again
failed on CS3. I spoke with Adam, and a few others around, and were not
quite sure why he was able to get this to work. I am 100% certain that
using the same workflow, his Mac is able to handle this process, but
none of the others I was able to try this on could. As far as I am
concerned, his ability to perform this export is a fluke, and cannot be
    reproduced through known methods.
However, the issue is resolved in the CS4 release, so you should be all
set to do your flash exports once you get your upgrade.
I hope this information helps to resolve your issue. If you require
further assistance with this issue, please update your web case with
complete details, including what steps you have applied and any error
    messages you are receiving.
You may also call Technical Support at (800) 642-3623. We are available
    from 6:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday - Friday, Pacific Time.
    Kind regards,

    Adobe Web Support"
Now let me post my response:
    "Thursday, October 23, 2008 12:40:06 PM PDT
    Joshua E.,
Thank you for your clear response to the issue of not being able to Build to Flash using Encore CS3. I can confirm the 100% accuracy
of everything you have said by adding my own experiences of the last 48 hours with Adobe Production Premium CS3 and CS4.
Two days ago I purchased the new Macbook Pro (Intel 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM). Immediately after setting up the Macbook Pro and getting i
t operating, I installed Adobe Production Premium CS3 (and all updates to CS3 Production Premium) on this brand new Macbook Pro. No
other software outside of the Mac OS 10.5.5 (and all updates to it) had been installed on this Macbook Pro. I then opened Premiere
CS3, placed 10 seconds of bars and tone in the timeline, and directly exported this to Encore CS3. I then selected Build To Flash.
Once again Encore CS3 froze at the "transcoding video" step and would not progress beyond 20%. This is the exact same behavior I
had on my Mac Pro 8-core machine and reported in this thread.
I then installed Adobe Production Premium CS4 on my Mac Pro 8-core. I followed the above step with the exception that apparently di
rect export from Premiere Pro CS4 to Encore CS4 is no longer available. I simple exported the Premiere Pro 10 second timeline to a
Quicktime .mov file using the Export>Media command in Premiere Pro CS4. I then took this .mov file into Encore CS4 and without bui
lding any menus, selected Build To Flash. The Build to Flash occurred perfectly with no problems at the "transcoding video" step or
    any other step.
Needless to say, I am very pleased to see that Adobe has corrected the problems with Build to Flash in CS4 on a Mac. However, this
problem had been well reported in numerous forums (including the Adobe Encore Forum) on the web as far back as six months ago, and
I am saddened to see that Adobe did not feel it was worth the effort to repair the issue with Build To Flash in CS3 on a Mac that w
as apparently caused by an upgrade to Quicktime that Apple released sometime after Quicktime 7.3.1. I cannot expect Apple to addres
s issues with Adobe software caused by their Quicktime upgrades. I do, however, expect Adobe to see that their software runs on the
latest editions of both Mac OS X and Quicktime. Otherwise, as happened with Encore CS3 and Build to Flash on a Mac, the customer bu
ys the software expecting it to work and it does not. We are in a tough economy now. I need the software from Adobe that supports
my media production company to work, and I don't need Apple and Adobe pointing the finger at each other when it does not. I hope th
at you will pass this message along to senior Adobe management.
I do thank you for telling me your observations on Build To Flash with a Mac under Encore CS3.
    Tom

  • Cannot get CS3 photoshop on my mac os10 to open my canon rebel T1i .CR2 files

I have spent hours downloading a variety of stuff and still cannot get  CS3 photoshop on my mac os10 to open my canon rebel T1i .CR2 files. I  have downloaded the Camera Raw 4.6 plugin. Photoshop acknowledges that  is the version installed. But it won't recognize the .CR2 file type.  When I say show me all files, the files show up in the open file dialog,  and the thumbnails look right, but when I open the file it is munged. I  also installed the DNG Converter, which also does not recognize the  .CR2 files.
Has anyone figured this out yet? It has been almost a year. I don't want to upgrade to CS4 or 5 or buy Lightroom.

The Adobe DNG Converter 6.2 will open your files, if you have an uncorrupted download and use it properly.  No doubt about that.
Once you launch it, be sure to target a folder containing raw files, not the raw files themselves.  At least on the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders, not on individual files.
Alternatively, you can try dragging and dropping the individual raw files onto the DNG Converter icon.
Some routine maintenance may be overdue on your Mac, such as Repairing Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, running Onyx or Cocktail, etc.

  • Importing cs3 projects on a mac

Hi, when i try to import my old premiere cs3 files in my new premiere cs4 on my mac, the program send me to the guide.
The guide say that it is not possible to do such import (old in new) on a mac, but i can do it in windows (!?).
To me this cannot be possible.
There have to be a way to import my old file made with premiere CS3 in my new Premiere CS4.
Does anyone know how to import cs3 file in cs4?
    Thanks a lot

Just to make sure that I am clear, you have a CS3 Mac Project, that will not Import into CS4 Mac. Is this the case?
Now, if you have CS3 PC Project, it is my understanding that you will need to Open that on a CS3 Mac, then do a Save_As. From there, you *should* be able to Open the CS3 Mac (now) Project in CS4 Mac.
Just before the changeover, there was a post along these same lines. The Mac user needed to find someone on CS3 Mac, to Open/Save_As on the Mac, so he could bring it into CS4 Mac. You might have luck looking for that article and seeing if there were any tips offered, that would help you.
    Good luck,

  • 5d mk2 + CS4 Premier PRo + MAC - HELP!

I've been trying to find an answer to how I can edit my 5d MK II files on CS4 PP for mac. Most answers relate to windows machines and other answers just state that getting a mac with FCP is the answer. I can edit my full 1080p files in iMovie. So far everything i've tried on PP CS4 has resulted in VERY choppy footage which is uneditable. I downloaded the trial version to give Aobe a chance. I already own the Photoshop cs3 and Lightroom 2.2 and would not mind the discount in the upgrade package. But if its not gonna work , FCP is my future. Anyone out there tried thi and liked Premier better than FCP?
Transcoding to lower quality and working with proxies sounds like a hell of a lot of work if i could just spend a few hundred buck more and get FCP?

From reports I've read, the difference in quality when rendered to MPEG2 is indiscernible, and you can closely match the original file spec (1920 x 1080 @ 30p, 38 MB/s). I don't believe that is possible with P2 export. Another option is to create proxy files for editing then replace with source clips when ready for export (explained here: http://www.vimeo.com/2641870).
