CS3 Required Fonts

I had this problem some time ago and have found solution on how to fix it but I can not find any details on how I did it.
I am using CS3 Design Premium on Vista. Yesterday I have removed some fonts which I do not use and after this PS, ID, FL and AI are not working any more. All startup procedures are finishing with the error messages and are closing down. What I can do to bring my CS3 back to live ? Do I have to repair / reinstall my CS3 or there is other, simpler solution. I remember that I had to add some fonts back to the system and this fixed the problem before but as I said I do not remember what fonts they were.
Thanks for suggestions.
Tony

I have fixed my problem.
After discovering that some menu items in other applications look different I done my search on the Google for default Vista fonts. After reinstalling Segoe UI group of fonts all did come back to normal, including my CS3. While menus in other applications did look different CS3 did stop working all together. Personally I think it should not happend. Maybe CS4 will work better.

  • CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 Vista Ult64

CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Truetype and Opentype work fine. I have searched through all the forums here multiple times, but not found a solution. The only workaround I found was to manually put the font files in c:/ProgramFiles(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Fonts.
When I put any font files in that folder, they show up in CS3 for use, but not in windows apps. I thought I would make a permanent work around by placing all of my uninstalled font files in that folder, then use suitcase to install them from there. That didn't work because EVERY font in that folder is available to CS3 and turned on. Do they get installed when you put them in there?? It didn't seem like they were installed, and windows apps didn't see them.
These are workarounds anyway. My main goal is to have suitcase work so I can organize my fonts efficiently. Extensis blames the font and CS3. I have read that there are adobe issues with other font management software as well as suitcase. Any help would be appreciated.

Got mine FIXED here is what i did:
    Windows 7 64bit SP1, CS 5
Postscript fonts (comprising of *.pfb + *.pfm files) did not show up in any CS5 app, but showed OK in Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
Tried  activating through Suitcase Fusion 2 and also through FontExpert 2009 -  but neither of them made the fonts visible in CS5 apps
    1) open Start Menu/Control Panel/Fonts
    2) on the sidebar there is "Font settings" item
    3) set the settings as i did
[    ]  Hide fonts based on language settings
[ x ]  Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced)
    FIXED mine,
now i can use Suitcase Fusion 2 to install any PFB/PFM fonts without any problems...
PLEASE IF THIS WORKED FOR YOU TOO, LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE SO OTHERS KNOW IF THIS FIX IS 100% WORKING

  • Required fonts for Bridge labels?

The attached screen shot explains it all. I keep my font library pared to a minimum, and I figure there is some font Bridge uses specifically for this area.

In case anyone is interested, here's what I've discovered.
There are four font families installed with Adobe CS2 that don't remain in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts folder. They are Courier, Myriad, Symbol, and ZWAdobeF. All are PostScript (Type1) fonts—except for ZWAdobeF, which is TrueType.
         Couri
         CouriBol
         CouriBolObl
         Courier
         CouriObl
         MyriaBol
         MyriaBolta
         Myriad
         MyriaIta
         MyriaRom
         Symbo
         Symbol
         ZWAdobeF.TTF
Interestingly, these may be required fonts, but instead of remaining in the Requrd folder, they seem to be installed in the User font library. According to the Extensis publication Font Management in Mac OS X: Best Practices Guide (7th ed.), the font Myriad is required for CS2. Meanwhile, an Adobe forum posting by Dov Isaacs, an Adobe employee, indicates that ZWAdobeF is a special hack for Adobe Acrobat and serves a limited purpose but is best left untouched. The remaining fonts may or may not be crucial.
I'd lost track of the source of these fonts long ago and had no idea that they belonged to my Adobe applications. Although they'd remained in my User font library, several of them (Courier and Symbol) had recently been disabled—but not Myriad or ZWAdobeF. For the time being, I've decided to move them all back into the Requrd folder where they'll be activated for all relevant Adobe applications.

  • IWork Required Fonts

Hi, we manage all of our fonts (including a lot of system fonts) and are wondering if anyone knows or has a resource to find out what exact fonts are NECESSARY for the proper working of any of the iWork applications?
I compiled a set of all fonts that come with iWork and iLife. There were a lot of duplicates, but once I weeded it down, there were 39 unique fonts. A lot of these we already have or are system fonts.
We like to keep our fonts as clean as possible and only activate what is absolutely necessary. I would prefer not to have to keep all 39 fonts active at all times if it is unnecessary.
I don't personally use any of the iLife or iWork apps, but the boss does so I need to get this setup for him or any other users that use any of the apps. He has mentioned some odd behavior in some of the apps, but not sure exactly if/which fonts could be causing this.
    THANKS!

There's really no reason to remove fonts. They don't slow down the computer and since most programs cache the installed fonts, they don't slow down the program launch. OTOH, it is admittedly something of a pain to wade through the huge list of fonts when you are looking for a specific font by name. But that's where Favorites come in.
Here is a fantastic post explain what fonts are required by Panther and Tiger. Leopard's Font Book program won't let you deactivate required fonts. As to what fonts are required by Pages? Far as I know, unless you want to use one of the built in templates, none of the fonts installed by Pages is required. But only trial and error will tell you what fonts are required by which templates.

how to display sysdate in html db page with required font ,size and color ?

You need to compute the item first. Something like SQL Expression - TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'), on load.
You can choos this item to be a text item and in
    HTML Form Element Attributes
    you enter:
    style="font-weight:bold;font-size:15px;color:blue"

  • CS3 Requires Segoe UI - Not good for CRT users on Vista.

    Hi,
I am posting this in hope that the Adobe designers can remove the requirement for Segoe UI in their user interface.
I have had to make certain special changes so that I could disable Segoe UI and ClearType in Vista so my screen looks clear. Segoe UI, ClearType, and Vista do not mix well.
But the only fix I know that removes Segoe UI from the Vista UI does not allow users to use Photoshop CS3 because Photoshop REQUIRES Segoe UI as the UI font. So this leaves CRT users forced to use undesirable settings in Vista, which are blurred fonts that can contribute to eyestrain. You can trick Photoshop to use Tahoma by setting Photoshop to run in XP SP2 Compatibility Mode. I do not know if this would cause any problems on Vista or not. So this MAY be a workaround.
Segoe UI is a Cleartype font, which looks terrible on Vista when users use CRT's (these are still common and sold for many reasons, especially for exact color graphics and other things requiring super clarity). See my article at http://steve.fsxtreme.com/blogs/2008/01/16/say-no-to-segoe-and-cleartype-on-vista/ on how I fixed it on my system. But doing this disables PhotoShop, which leaves people in a difficult position.
Forcing Segoe UI on customers with CRT's was a major oversight by Microsoft IMO. I hope you all can change your product to allow for non-Cleartype fonts in your user interfaces.
Adobe has a KB article discussing this requirement... http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402311.
    Thanks,
    Steve

You can configure Vista so it works a lot like XP.
    1. Install Vista.
    2. Disable User Account Control.
    3. Make Sure Data Execution Protection is set to Essential Programs and Services only.
    4. Disable the Aero Desktop.
    5. Disable the Indexing service
    6. Disable Windows Defender.
    7. Right-click Program Files (with subfolders) and change the Owner to your account.
    8. Change the permissions of Program Files (with subfolders) so that your account has full control.
    9. (Optional) - Change your desktop theme to Windows Classic so you do not have that awful blue XP style title bar and frame.
    10. Use the various tweaks common on the net to reconfigure IE7 (move the menu to the top, hide the command bar, etc...).
With the above, I almost have an EXACT XP like experience. Asides from a few relocations of items, it all feels the same. Of course I had to use the NoSegoe tweak to get rid of Segoe UI as I use a new 21-inch CRT. But overall, it is no different now from Windows XP.
It is a lot to have to do! But it is better than the alternative if I must use Vista in my job, which I need to do.
Also, I use a good virus scanner that allows for me to use it as I need it, such as NOD32.

  • [CS3] Used font in a document: Index?

    Hello!
I am working with IUsedFontList and IPMFont.
But none is telling me the index of a font used in a document.
How can I get the index of a font used in a document?
    Alois Blaimer

Changing fonts/font sizes in a scanned document requires a product like Acrobat to
convert the scanned image into text (OCR)
make actual changes to the text
With Adobe Reader you can use the Zoom function to enlarge the PDF document content.

  • Fonts not appearing in CS3 program font lists

Certain postscript fonts (ZapfDingbats and Rubino Sans) are correctly installed in Windows 7 and available to Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) but not to Adobe programs. That is, they do not appear in any of the CS3 Design Standard applications (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator) font lists when the application is open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fonts and CS3 to no avail. I have added shortcuts to the Common Files/Adobe/Fonts directory to no avail. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I assume by PostScript fonts you really mean Type 1 fonts. (TrueType and OpenType fonts are every bit as much "PostScript fonts" as Type 1 fonts are!)
There is a known problem with the CS3 applications with all Type 1 fonts under all Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit versions when such fonts are installed in the Windows System Font directory. The problem is fixed in CS4.
The workaround is to copy all the Type 1 font files (both the .PFB and the .PFM files - each Type 1 font has one .PFB and one .PFM file) to the Creative Suite's private font directory. Depending upon the CS version, that may be in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
                   or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
Restart the Creative Suite programs you are using and the fonts should appear.
You may also copy said fonts into the private font directories of the individual applications (typically a directory path ending with the node name Fonts.

  • Opening CS5 in CS3 outlines fonts COOP Heavy

Am preparing to update an agency from CS3 to CS5.5. Finding that saving a Illustrator CS5.1 files down to CS3 outlines one of the fonts that had appearance attributes(all from the top half Ilustrator Effects). They own the font, and I tried with both PDF On and Off(notice blue bubbles at bottom) and got outlined font for Coop Heavy.
As a test I set Coop Heavy all by itself on a fresh page, and it went over.
Anyone know how I can save  CS5 to CS3 and not get outlined fonts? Any tips for updating an agency to CS5.1 anyone has found?

I progressivley dummied down the logo, and it appears that offset path is one thing that causes CS5 to CS3 to outline type.
Anyone else out there opening CS5 files in CS4 or 3 and finding loss of editablility in files, or a solution for this? Prepress houses are always asking us to save down to CS3, so must be people who know more about this. When you place CS5 files in CS3 seems all font gets oultined. Anyone find any way to stop fonts getting outlined? Before I start rolling out CS5, I need to develop a plan to cause minimum interruption to workflow.
