CS4 does't run on new mac - is this program lost now? License No avilable

My Mac with OS X Tiger (10.4) had Photoshop CS4 running. Now I needed to change on OS X 10.9. Mavericks - CS4 doesn't fit. What can I do? Upgrade CS4? License is available. Please help, I need to work on my photos!

CS 4 is totally out of the upgrade loop.  Too old.  You cannot upgrade, only buy a new license.
However, CS4 runs on Mavericks (OS x 10.9.x).

Unable to open indesign after migration to new mac all other programs open and work. Why? Running Yosemite 10.10.1 Indesign CS5

The keyword is "migration." Migrating or copying files for Adobe applications usually does not work. Not all of the necessary subsidiary files are copied to the right location.
You'll need to first clean up the mess with this tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then download an installer from here:

Normally Microsft allows the installation of their programs, except Operating Systems, to be installed on a desktop and notebook at the same time as long as both system are used exclusively by the same person and Not at the same time.
So this should also be true for MS Office for Mac. The only way to tell is to install it on the Mini and then use the same key to activate it. If the activation goes through you are fine. But if you run both system at the same time do not open any of the Office programs on both system at the same time. That may trigger MS to disallow one of the activations.
MS Office for both Mac and Windows checks the local network and logs into the MS activation site everytime one of the apps is started to check current activation and to check if you have it running on more then one computer on your local network using the same key.

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How Will iMovie Run on New Mac Pro (late 2013)?

Is iMovie v10 ever likely to be upgraded to support the multiple-cores in the new Mac Pro (late 2013) the way Final Cut Pro X does? If not, will a fast iMac run iMovie about as well as the new Mac Pro (late 2013)?

No one here knows what Apples plans are for iMovie?
I think it's fair to say everything will run faster on the new MacPro but I don't think it's a reason by itself to upgrade hardware.
iMovie 10.0.9 runs just fine on my 2010 iMac.

  • OSX Server 10.4.11 Run on New Mac Pro?

Hi, we need to upgrade and older G4 running OSX Server 10.4.11 and just want to make sure that the OS will run decent on a new Mac Pro machine. Does this work, or do you have to upgrade to 10.5?
Thanks. Would love the migration to be smooth, as my IT skills are limited. And if we had to upgrade the OS, I'd rather wait until Snow Leopard came out so we wouldn't have to upgrade twice in a short period of time.

Another potential option is to get the current box serviced; refurbished, as it may.
It looks like we would need to get the first generation Mac Pro to keep our 10.4.11 server software, but I suppose we would need the Intel-compatible install disks too, correct? Know if Apple would send Intel install disks if we were licensed owners of OSX Server 10.4 for PPC?
Um, I'd tend to doubt that. (You did get what you purchased, you've used what you purchased, and you probably didn't purchase the software maintenance service plan, right?) But you can always ask Apple, of course.
We really don't need the latest/greatest performance for our server, it's mostly a file-server. Our ancient G4 (upgraded processor to 1Ghz) doesn't seem to slow us down much, and has been pretty solid until now.
If you're looking for "just a file server", get a NAS (Network Attached Storage) box. There are various NAS options available. For low-volume shared stuff, a Time Capsule can suffice as a NAS box.
And I agree it would definitely make most sense to wait until Snow Leopard was available to upgrade, I just don't know if our server is going to last that long...
If you're not looking for the latest and greatest and a low-end Mac box is an option, an Intel Mac Mini (the latest version has FireWire 800, which is rather speedy I/O) can do quite well for serving up data, and can boot and run Leopard and apparently Snow Leopard. It's a respectable entry-level box, with decent I/O.
I did see something in the Snow Leopard documentation about an easy to use migration application for the upgrade. This would probably be very helpful if it worked well. Did Leopard have something similar?
I've had a successful upgrade from Tiger Server to Leopard Server, but in more recent times I tend to reinstall stuff rather than the upgrade. Cruft tends to build up over the years. Sometimes an upgrade blows up. I utilize a "warm standby" server to allow me to test the upgrades and updates before I go into production.

  • Time Machine history gone after failed run on new Mac

We moved file serving duties from a G5 PowerMac running 10.5 to a new Mac Mini server with Lion. We moved the G5's four internal drives into external FireWire cases.
We cloned the TimeMachine volume from an external 1.5TB drive to a 3TB drive using Drive Utility's Restore command.
When we brought up the Mini the drives all appeared properly with their previous names and I told Time Machine to use the 3TB drive. Before I let it back up I entered Time Machine and was able to browse back to the oldest files (6+ months) and sucessfully restoreed a few samples.
I kicked off the backup and let it be.
The next day I saw that it said the backup had failed because there was insufficient room.
The original TimeMachine drive was 1.5TB and was not full.
The four drives' data totals 1.1TB.
Even if TM was ignoring the backup that I had browsed the previous day and making a brand new backup, that is "only" 2.6TB and the formatted drive is 2.75TB.
When I entered Time Machine the four disks' history now only went back to the previous day. It says there is about 1TB free on the 3TB drive but also says the backup needs 2.2TB - double what's actually on the drives.
Luckily we still have the previous 1.5TB TM backups so we have not completely lost the history, but I'm concerned about why TM is acting so oddly with the new drive.
Other than doing another Restore from the previous TM volume using Drive Utility, does anyone know how to recover the TM history? And why did TM show us the history one day and aparently nuked it the next?

  • Will CS3 and CS5 run on new Macs?

I need to run Indesign and Photoshop in both CS3 AND CS5. Will they run on a new Mac Pro OS? Do I need Rosetta? I hear it will work on Lion OS 10.6, but not the upcoming Mountain Lion OS 10.7. True?

    Bob writes:
I would also say that it would be best to do a clean install of Mountain Lion if you’re not buying a new machine with it preinstalled. O/S upgrades are a crapshoot and if you’ve already done one or two upgrade installs you have a lot of left over crap on that drive.
It's worth a reminder that reasonable people disagree on this point.
In my considered opinion, the immense hassle of attempting to preserve all your customizations and to reinstall all of your 3rd party software is huge, and and generally that administrative pain (and risk) is not offset by the potential elimination of potentially unknown and poorly-understood problems.
Further, unlike in the Windows world, the general expectation in the Mac community (that is, among users, among developers, and from the Vendor--Apple) is that you will do the migration. This means the migration is that path that is tested and it tends to work pretty well. This is not to say that migrating is expected to be more reliable than a clean installation (though when we start to talk about the reliability of "getting work done," which involves the reliability of applications and availability of your data, that is very different question than the reliability of the base operting system, with no additional software).
So choose carefully, and whatever you do, keep a backup.

  • After migrating to new mac, email folders are lost.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer files and data from my old MacBook Air to my new MacBook Air. Everything seems to have transferred just fine, except for my email folders. I have tried plugging in Time Machine to restore them from my backups on my old mac, but the new mac doesn't recognize backups on the old one, so I can't access it through Time Machine while in the mail program. So then I tried searching for my mail files, which (according to what I've read) should be in Library/Mail, but I have no Mail folder that I can find by that path (or, really, by any other). I believe both macs are running Mountain Lion.

That Library folder is actually the one in your home folder, which is hidden. You can view it by clicking the Go menu in Finder while holding the Option key down - you'll then see a shortcut to Library.
The mail is held in ~/Library/Mail/V2, inside folders named for each mail account. You should be able to use the File - Import Mailboxes menu in Mail to retrieve them.

  • SO I got a NEW mac. XFER programs? Mail, etc? Can mount old HD in new MAC!!

Basically, what is the best way to take what is on this mac (everything from MAIL.APP to final cut, Logic, Pages) and somehow transffer them to the new mac?
I can MOUNT the old HD in the new MAC so doing it via firewire is unessary. Any advice? I know mounting the HD won't really make it a system drive but if there are programs on the mounted drive, would they launch from the mounted drive, e.g Mail, Final Cut, or will FCP think its a copy and shut down?
    Thanks again.

Four possibilities here, since we don't know what Mac models you are migrating between.
1,2 PowerPC Mac to PowerPC Mac all Mac OS X
or Intel Mac to Intel Mac
    - Use the Migration Assistant:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
    3. PowerPC Mac to PowerPC Mac some Mac OS 9 mixed in. Note
that some applications may not be optimized for Classic, and some drivers may not be optimized for Classic. See my FAQ* on what to do if you find that Classic won't work for your application:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html
    4. PowerPC Mac to Intel Mac, see this article Kappy and I wrote, since PowerPC applications won't all work properly, and drivers in Intel Macs, and the migration assistant can fail to work properly in this kind of migration:
