CS5 feature request - audio import?

Does anyone else think a feature request to add an "ask" option for PREFERENCES-AUDIO-DEFAULT TRACK FORMAT would be a great idea?
I'm constantly having to switch between stereo and mono etc when importing different types of files from different camera types etc. A pain.
Paul.

Paul,
Not sure exactly what you are looking to do here. One can set up a default Sequence layout, and that will be what is initially shown, with New Sequence.
My default is 2 Mono, 4 Stereo and a DD 5.1 SS Master. If I know that I will have a Sequence with more SFX Mono Tracks, I just bump that count up, when doing New Sequence. Same of Stereo, if I know that I will have, say more Music Tracks.
Are you saying that you'd like "floating channel-counts" for Tracks, so that they could be either Mono, or Stereo? If so, I do not see that happening.
If you are asking for maybe a Click+drag on Audio Tracks to rearrange them, like many DAW programs, that would be different. Though I use the PrPro method of Create/Delete Tracks, to get the order/arrangement that I need, the Click+drag is not a bad idea, and many have filed that Feature Request, including myself, though I am comfortable with the current method, and can easily live with it.
Can you clarify a bit more?
Thanks and good luck,
Hunt

  • Feature Requests: "Last Import" shortcut / Last visited collections in "New Coll." dialog

i think this isn't not only my personal workflow and others would be happy about this minor improvements:
    1. after an import of photos from the memory card i'm usually separate them into several new collections. after naming them i'm pointing to an existing collection set.
here i always need to scroll around in the pulldown menu of the new collection dialog to find the desired set. this menu is growing longer and longer with my nearly 100k photos.
it would be extremely nice to have displayed here some, let's say, top 5 or 10 collection sets i've visited to get quickly to a set where to drop the new collection.
such kind of history is already availabe in the left hand pulldown menu above the film strip. so it shouldn't be difficult to integrate this in the new collection dialog.
additionally a structured menu would be better there than the current view with all collection sets folded out.
additionally think about the mac-like navigation through folders in the finder with the cursor keys: up/down to move in the set structure, right to go into a set, left to move one level up.
    2. after having dropped a new collection into a set i usually need to go back to the last import section of the library to continue my work. this is possible only by clicking in the catalog panel or by choosing last import from the left hand pulldown menu above the film strip. here a keyboard shortcut would be a huge time saver.

You've got some nice ideas there.  As they may not make the final release, and this forum will be closed down once the beta is over, might I suggest adding it as a suggestion on the Feature Request forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family where it can easily be tracked?  If you post the link to your request here, others can also vote on your request.

  • Feature Request - Storyboard import and Audio Notations

Ability to import and associate sotryboards for scene breakdown. Would be nice to import various graphic formats or even audio notations about the scene to help convey thoughts during collaboration.
Nice preview release. Headed in the right direction.

    HI,
there are some features that could be very usefull :
-Time code counter : would estimate the length of written part, and add this duration in a "counter." hh:mn:ss;fr"
of course in 25, 24,and 29fps and the option to set the initial TC.
-Exporting sound track with various synthesis voices, in the most common audio files .aiff  .wav  .mp3
-Exporting XML timelines to NLE systems ; it would allow the whole team to start working.
Motion graphic designers, music composers, sound editors, could better figure out what the film will be.
The xml file would have audio files associated.  (ie voice over would help a 3D team to sync their animations)
-Perfect interoperability with MSWord and Excel
-a "colors/category" column, user-defined with a sign counter. Would allow to figure out how much "stock shot" / "CGI" / "Robert de Niro" / "underwater"
    is required.
-all commands should be assignable to keys by the user (Final Cut Pro does that very well)
-avoid F1, F2... etc as more and more people use portable computers.
-User defined workspaces : something very light with no disturbing figures or menus for a fluid writing, and something more complete for reviewing periods with statistics, exports etc etc etc

  • Feature Request:  Audio Level  Control + Auto-accept chat

    Hi all,
    Just a quick note...
I am using iChat to monitor my elderly Grandfather who has mobility problems. He lives with me, but in a different room in my home.
I watch and listen in case he falls, or calls for help.
I use Bonjour to initiate a video chat and use his built in iSight in his iMac (intel).
The problem I am having is that there is no volume control on iChat, therefore the only way to control the level is via the main system volume. That doesn't work well since it affects all other things I am doing (music, videos, other chats, web pages...etc).
So basically I have to listen to his iChat session at system volume and 23 hours a day that's just coughing, or his TV, or whatnot.
It would be very useful if iChat had an independent volume control/mute for applications like this, and even for regular audio/video chat (some people listen to music while chatting).
The other request I would like up for consideration is a password protected auto-accept feature.
This would allow the host to automatically accept and initiate text/audio/video chats requested by authorized clients.
This way I don't have to initiate a chat, then run down to the other room to accept it.
Also this would be useful for security monitoring and baby monitoring purposes.
    Thanks for listening
    Sean

In the Alerts tab of iChat preferences, select Video Invitation from the Event pop-up menu. Then select the Run Applescript checkbox and select Auto Accept.applescript from the adjacent pop-up menu.
Granted, this doesn't give you password authentication, but I don't believe anything is available for providing that capability.
    Hope this helps.

  • Feature Request: KML import

I just recently discovered how to download saved Google Maps[1].  A number of my friends use it, and several of the conferences I go to have a ton of local data in it.  However, when I travel, I don't always have an always-on data connection (especially when going to a different country).
It would be super awesome if we could import KML files into Ovi Maps.  I think the holy grail would be if the original KML file could still be synced from the master URL, for any updates after the installation.
[1]  Click "View in Google Earth", that gives you a KML file. This downloads a master KML file that simply describes the map and has a URL.  Download and load the URL contained in it, and it includes the description, type and gps coordinates for each location.

This function is very important. Please, Add "Import KML" function in a Nokia HERE.

  • Feature Request:  Modify Audio Channels from the Timeline in Premiere CC.1

Why have we never been able to modify audio channels once a clip is added to a sequence?  I'm guessing there's a good reason Adobe has never had this feature.  The lack of this feature is explicitly mentioned a few times in the audio section of the Premiere Pro CC manual, as if it's a benefit NOT to have it.  But the benefit is entirely lost on me.
In my workflow, I synchronize my double-system video and audio before anything else.  I do this in PluralEyes (and unfortunately I'll have to keep doing it this way, until PPr's sync on sound feature gets fixed—for me it's never worked).
Once PluralEyes has synched hours of footage and audio and placed it on a PLURALEYES GENERATED sequence, I import that sequence into Premiere.  Note:  Since I haven't gone through the step of creating a blank New Sequence, I don't get the opportunity to setup my audio channels the way I'd like in my sequence (i.e. Stereo recordings should occupy ONE track, not two.  Typically these tracks come from a camcorder and are used for reference sound, or ambient noise at best, so I don't need them taking up precious real estate in my sequence).
Since PluralEyes doesn't merge my clips for me (or rather I don't want it to since I'm usually doing multi-cam sequences where I want to keep all 14, or so, tracks of audio), I have to go through the clips one by one and do a Merge Clip action once I've adjusted any minor sync issues, or determined which tracks I actually want to keep.  But, and here's the key, at this stage I'm not yet 100% certain whether I'll use the nat sound or the wireless mic sound (separate audio recorder, etc).  Furthermore, I don't really want to think about that at this point.  After I've spent a few mind-numbing hours just ingesting files, sync and merges, I want to jump into the edit as soon as possible, before I lose all will to finish this edit.  If I modify my audio channels right now, I'll lose the ability to make some creative decisions later on.
I'd like to start whacking out an assembly edit.  And then after I have a rough program, I can start looking at which audio tracks (nat or double-system) I like better in each circumstance.  This is where I become stumped that at this stage, I'm locked into whatever audio channels I've setup (or not) in the earliest stage of the edit, back before any media was actually on the timeline!  It's at this stage, and usually only at this stage that I want to start Modifying Channels—FROM THE TIMELINE!
Does anyone else feel the same?  If not, what is your workflow?
Feature Summary:  Right-click on any clip, (master clip, sub-clip, merged, nested or otherwise) in the timeline and choose Modify > Audio Channels.
I've submitted a feature request, with a link back to this discussion, so please pipe in—especially if you want this feature.

Maybe its your specific workflow, asset mangement  and use of a 3rd party application that  runs you into an issue.
Take Pluraleyes out of the equation, I would imagine my workflow is the same as most everyone else.  Find footage in the Media Browser.  Import it.  Create a Sequence and start editing.  Use the Source Monitor to set Ins and Outs and then Insert the clip on the timeline.
At this point, if the audio needs to be modified, it cannot be done on the Timeline.  The workaround, of course, is to Find Clip in Project; Modify Audio in the Project panel; then do a Matchframe to replace the audio clip.  This works, but requires many steps per clip.  Also, Matchframe in Premiere Pro CC is not reliable.
Introducing a new Modify Audio (from Timeline) feature as seen in the fantasy screenshot above would solve it.
I dont use Pluraleyse ...which I understand to be a synching aid...so I dont know the workflow it imposes on one .
Returning to Pluraleyes workflow, this issue is compounded by the need to Modify almost ALL audio.  Every stereo track is separated and placed on two MONO tracks taking up precious real estate.  This is not something Pluraleyes imposes.  It is due to the way Premiere imports XML timelines.  This would apply to sequences imported from Final Cut as well.
In this case it would be ideal to select both the LEFT and RIGHT mono tracks and choose "Modify > Audio Channels > Merge L/R Mono to a Single Stereo track."  Ideal?  No.  I guess Ideal would be if Premiere would interpret XML files properly in the first place.
What actually is the issue with Premieres synch and merge workflow in your case?
Audio Sync in Premiere Pro doesn't work.  Period.

  • Import Feature Request...

Having used Lightroom for sometime I have a feature request dealing with the
importing of images in to Lightroom.
I would like to see the ability to have Lightroom look at each image it
imports and based on where the image is dark, light or in the middle it
would apply a different preset to them. For example if Lightroom found that
60% of the pixels in the image was dark colors it would apply a preset that
I create for dark images that would lighten the image. If it found that 40%
of an image was light colors it would apply a preset I create that would
darken the image. If it found that 50% of the image was dark colors and 50%
were light colors it would apply a preset that I create that might up the
saturation and other things but not adjust the exposure any.
I would like to see the percentages that Lightroom uses to make these
decisions adjustable by the user. For example for an image to be considered
dark it would have to have 80% of the pixels dark, etc. I would also like to
see this feature be able to be turned on or off by the user (for those that
don't want to use it) as I realize this could slow the import process down.
And, while it would make the importing slower I think it would mean less
    work for the user later.
Also, maybe instead of looking at all of the pixels in the image one by one
to make a decisions on how light or dark the image is it could simply create
a quick histogram and use that. It seems like histogram generation in
Lightroom is pretty fast and this may keep the import time down to something
    that isn't so bad.
As it is right now, I see little point in having a preset applied to the
images I import as very seldom do all of the images I import in to Lightroom
would work with the same preset. I think a setup like this would cut down on
    adjustments later.
    Robert

The problem with the auto preset is that the current auto functions in
Lightroom just kind of suck. On all of the images I have used it on it blows
everything out and this is even on images that already have plenty blown
out. I have yet to see it darken an image.
I also want to point out I am not asking for an auto feature I am asking
that options be added that lets the user apply a preset (any preset they
want) to images that are too dark, too light and 50-50. This is a far cry
from the auto functions that are in LR now.
If you apply a preset to images that are dark and that preset ups the
Exposure to +1, etc. the chances are good that it will get your image much
close to what you want. Just like applying a preset that adjusts the
exposure to -1 on images that are very light. And, of course the user can
control the threshold that LR uses to decide if an image is light, dark or
50-50. You can also turn this off if you don't want to use it. There really
is nothing auto about my suggestion since the entire process is controlled
by the user. It just saves you time of waiting for an import to complete and
then going through your images manaully and apply a lightening and darkening
    preset to the appropriate images.

  • Feature Request: Please allow us to merge audio with image sequence in AME.

So far the only programs that allow this (that I'm aware of anyway) are the old version of QuickTime Pro, and Apple's Compressor. I simply want to add an image sequence to AME, and combine an audio track to that image sequence for export. This would save me an extra step. 80% of my work begins and ends in After Effects. I do very little video editing, so most of my exports are rendered from AE and then exported from Quicktime or Compressor to whatever file my clients request (Most often ProRes for a master version, and h264 or x264 Quicktime files for the web).
Is it possible we might see this feature added anytime soon? Thanks!

This is a good feature request and should be submitted here: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
The team reviews all the requests that come in through that form. It is a guaranteed way to get your request seen while we do not always see everything that gets posted to the forums.

  • Feature request : import of multi-line notes in CSV or tab-delimited file

This is a feature request to the AddressBook development team:
Following a question posted here and asked to support (thanks to Barry and Julia from ADC), it turns out that AddressBook is not ready yet to import multi-line notes from a CSV or tab-delimited file.
I would like to kindly suggest the AddressBook development team to update the import methods for such flat files to parse the text of what is assigned to the Notes field, and convert documented escape sequences to their pre-determined corresponding special character.
I would think that the following would be pretty easy to implement, and easy for the targeted audience (enthousiasts power-users and up) to remember:
    "\n " : mark a new line (same as ^p in Word)
    "\t " : replace by a tab
I would keep the trailing space to avoid problems with DOS-type file path problems.
    and of course...
"\\n " and "\\t " for whoever would want to import notes about \n and \t
For example, in a Notes column, the text:
"Escape sequence \\n :\n move the text to a new line\n \n while escape sequence \\t :\t move the text to the next horizontal tab"
would give the following (just consider text between <Note> marks):
    <Note>
    Escape sequence \n:
move the text to a new line
while escape sequence \t: move the text to the next horizontal tab
    </Note>
    Thanks for reading...
    Frédéric Denis

The developers do not necessarily read these USER discussion pages. If you want to make suggestions and know they will be read (which is at least a step towards implementation) use the OS X feedback page.

  • Feature Request: Brush Size/Feather Control Like CS5

CS5 introduced a brilliant way to adjust brush size and feathering on the fly with a couple of spring-loaded keystrokes.  I plugged those into my Wacom pen and while holding the button simple drag left/right to change size and up/down for opacity.  Works brilliantly.  Would love the same functionality in LR4.

    Well welcome aboard then.
This forum's primarily focused on the new features and bugs that are in this beta.  Your request is great, but as it may not make the final release, and we wouldn't want the request to get lost in beta land, might I suggest adding it as a suggestion on the Feature Request forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family where it can easily be tracked?  If you post the link to your request here, others can also vote on your request.  In fact, if you search over there, you may find others with the same idea, so you can add your vote.

  • Feature request: import/copy locked photos only

the option to "import/copy locked photos only" (files that have been locked/tagged by camera) would be helpfull.

I'm sure I've seen that request over on the Feature Request forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family where it can easily be tracked, but I can't find it right now.  That would be the best place to add your vote or request as this forum will be closed once the beta's over.

  • Feature request: improve audio (track) fx workflow

Hey, this might have been suggested before but I just keep running into these limitations on an almost daily basis so thought I'd just add my request.
First of all, I really like having the option to have FX on an audio track (as opposed to on a per-clip basis). But it misses some basic workflow functionality.
    1. We should be able to drag and drop FX between the slots, so we can change the order of processing.
    2. we should be able to copy and paste effects between tracks and sequences. Very often I'll be making something like 5 variations on a spot and dialed in some compression on a voice-over in one sequence. But there's no way to copy these settings to the other 4 sequences (except to copy the entire sequence and then copy and paste back the correct video from the other sequences ... not ideal)
    3. We need the ability to save and recall user presets for the audio FX and whole FX chains so we can re-use these throughout sequences and projects.
Hopefully the next update could add some of this much needed functionality and make Premiere Pro even better! (it's come a long way recently )

I'm just writing to say that you're not alone.  I put in these feature requests a second time about ten minutes after I noticed they were missing from CS6.
The audio is getting so good in Pr, there's almost no need to go to Au or another DAW for mixing.  But, they need to fix a few things, like the suggestions you and I made.
There are some bugs that need fixing as well.  I've never gotten the noise reducer to work (I'm on Mac.), and some of the GUIs in CC are messed up for third-party VST plug-ins that work fine in CS6.
Dragging the order of FX would be great.  So, would, option-dragging or copy/paste to make copies from one track to another.
And, the absence of having an ability to save audio presets is a major oversight.  When I (often) start a new sequence whose settings differ from the original, I have to manually apply the same track effects, and then note settings manually from the first instance and apply the settings to the second instance in the new Sequence.  Very time consuming.
Here's my list of feature requests from 4-25-12:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/995108
You'll see that a lot of them have been implemented.

  • LR3 Feature Request - Heal Preset/Import Capability and Stuck Pixels

(Note: I posted something similar some time ago but the original thread seems to be inaccessible although a cached Google version is available here. )
2 features requests but with a common theme :-
    1) Spot removal/cloning/healing added to a preset. Currently the only way to do this is to copy and synchronise during an editing session of photos that have already been imported.  The capability to save spot removal as a preset would be very useful for dealing with recurring dust spots and similar issues.
Which leads to request 2 -
    2)  The ability to manually 'tune' the hot pixel removal capability. Currently LR is failing to deal with some stuck/hot pixels on one of my cameras (a Ricoh GRD III) if this is linked to the way DNG has been implemented in the Ricoh, as suggested in the earlier thread re this subject, then a response from Adobe to confirm this would be appreciated, either way some ability to 'tell' LR what to do would be of benefit.

Thanks for the response Rob, saving a 'target' image is a good idea, but other than that I don't see this workaround as being particularly different from the approach I outlined in my initial post. One of the most useful capabilities LR has is being able to apply presets during import, yet Adobe for whatever reason have not allowed any of the tools (other than graduated filters) to be applied this way, I would love to know why. There was a 'bug' with LR 1 if I remember correctly whereby spot settings could be saved to a preset, but this was 'fixed' in a later release, so it appears to be possible to implement this functionality, yet they have decided not to do so.

  • Feature Request - Import ITunes m4p into Track

Would like a feature that allowed moving an entire ITunes song into a GB track.
    933 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

  • Opinions On Several Feature Requests

    Hello,
For starters this is not a problem I can't solve in Premiere but more so a request of your opinions on Feature Requests that I've recently submitted. Just so you know, I'm new to the Adobe forums but I'm not so new to Premiere Pro. I've used Premiere since 1.5 and have been fortunate to use every version up to CS5. We, at the shop, always talk about how Premiere could be a bit better and so after 6 years of talking I've finally submitted a few Feature Requests for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and CS5.5. Below are the requests submitted one by one:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Feature Request: Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Source Panel Keyboard Zoom
How would you like the feature to work?
In the Keyboard Customization menu, add keyboard zoom options for the Source Panel.  Also have an option for vertical and horizontal zoom for audio.
Why is this feature important to you?
Often times I use the Source monitor before inserting clips of video or audio into the timeline. The current method of pinpointing an area in the Source monitor is by using the horizontal bar, which can be a little jarring. I always use the shortcut key (-) to zoom out and (=) to zoom in when using the timeline and program monitor. This may seem like a minor feature request but is key component to speed up my work flow and make my production time more efficient.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Set Clip Markers Button
How would you like the feature to work?
In the timeline panel, beside the Set Display Style and Show Key Frames buttons, a Set Clip Markers button can be added to both the Video and Audio tracks. Just as the other buttons have dropdown menus, the Set Clip Marker would have its dropdown menu for set other numbered, next available or unnumbered. If the dropdown menu was set to next available number, each time the button was pressed the clip marker would adjust just as it does from the Marker tab at the top of the screen.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Multi-Camera Audio Fix
How would you like the feature to work?
I think this is more of a Bug Report but I'm submitting this as a Feature Request. When I edit in Multi-camera mode and I have a nested video sequence with the audio tracks beneath the nested video the first audio track gets extracted whenever I make multi-camera cuts. A work around for this is to lock the first audio track. At times I do forget to lock the audio and have to go back and extend the audio to get it back on its track.
Why is this feature important to you?
This fix is important because it makes the multi-camera feature more reliable and it saves time in the editing process.
Why is this feature important to you?
Because most of our jobs require multiple cameras and multiple audio sources, both on camera and standalone, using the Marker tab at the top of the screen is very time consuming when syncing each clip. I know many Premiere Pro users would benefit from this feature especially with the rise of the HDSLR work flows and the need to sync audio from external devices such as the Zoom H4N.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Horizontal Audio Master Meter
How would you like the feature to work?
Customize the Audio Master Meter so that it can dock horizontally, similarly to how Adobe Soundbooth has its audio meter above.
Why is this feature important to you?
When we deploy to other countries, we have to use our laptops for editing. Because of the limited resolution on our laptops I think it would be better to have the audio meter at the top of the screen to maximize the amount of work space on laptops.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Multi-Camera Monitor sync with Timeline
How would you like the feature to work?
Put simply, have the Multi-Camera Monitor sync real time with the Timeline Panel. Right now, whenever you use the Multi-camera Monitor it operates independently from the Timeline Panel. It should operate just as the Program monitor does with the Timeline.
Why is this feature important to you?
When I scrub through the footage in the Multi-Camera monitor I don't get a feel for the entire sequence and my current location when editing. When I use the Program monitor along with the Timeline Panel I have a reference of where I am in real time and it’s easier to manage cuts when I edit in the Timeline Panel.
If you have any feature requests for Premiere Pro, agree or disagree with the requests posted here I'd like to hear your opinions. Please state your Brief Title, The Feature, and Why you agree/disagree with the feature requests posted.
