CS6 Help Doesn't Work in Local mode

Hi,
I have downloaded the trial and installed it Mac OS Lion. The help application does not work; the omly thing that it will display is the settings window. After downloading local content and clicking done, the window disappears, but when you click on the application icon, it again reappears. Simply put, I cannot view the help at all in the Help application, even though I have set it up to always use local content. Anyone else run into this?

The fact that Adobe had a wonderful offline help application with search, linking, an index, etc. etc. Was one of the major reasons why I paid so much for the software.
However, when I installed it, I was as disappointed as everyone else that the help application has been put into disrepair by Adobe, and they had zero offline help available for everyone, and yet the application was still built into their software.
After many people complained, Adobe promised at some point to deliver PDF files, which is, frankly, the stupidest idea since PDF files themselves are not reasonable for a help system. Anybody creating a PDF help system needs to do all the work creating the index, formatting, and everything. It is a significant amount of additional work, especially given you already have a help system that has served people very well and worked very fine.
Then. When Adobe does finally got around to sending out PDF's for offline help, they gave half-assed documentation and guess what... It contained links to online content, such as blogs, and video resources, etc.
First of all... Links to online content DOES NOT WORK for offline help purposes.
When paying nearly $1000 for software, a major selling point is that you have some kind of documentation you can go through that tells you what features are in the new software you purchased.
We literally had ZERO documentation to go through upon purchasing this software and Adobe has SEVERELY dropped the ball on us.
It would be better to just remove the help system from the software completely, because it is a fraud and false advertisement at this point to claim that Adobe software has any kind of help system built into the software.
As you have learned now. Third-party web sites are NOT a substitute for a help file. They do not work OFFLINE. They don't even work ONLINE as a help system, really.
To pretend like you have an offline help by having it open in a half-assed software with a link to the web, or to give people PDF's that link to the web, is UNACCEPTABLE for people wanting an "OFFLINE" help system.
SO... Either just say "There is no offline help", or create an actual offline help system. Pretending like you have offline help when you don't have it and just giving us more links to the web is not working. Something is seriously broken at Adobe.

    You would definitely need to set up a network on a router with a modem for internet connection.

    This does not apply to one application, but is a suite wide fix.
    I had been running the CS6 Master Collection trial download version and the help menu, specifically the online "Help" and "Support Center" listed on the main help menu dropdowns of all applications within the suite, was not working, able to connect, or an error that the folder did not exist (apparently corrupted).
    Once I just got the CS6 Master Collection (DVDs) I uninstalled the trials, then installed the hard copy version, with the normal reboot in between. The Help menus still did not work.
    This is what I'm running. : Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    I called Adobe support and the following was my solution for both my desktop and netbook with this problem.
    1.    Close all running Adobe applications.
    2.    In the directory C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/  Delete the "Adobe Help" folder.
    (C:Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe Help/)
    3.    Reboot
    4.    Then go to Adobe.com/support/chc/   (this is the "community help center")
    5.    Click under "Step 2" the "Install Now*" button.
    6.    On one of the windows that open there is a Preferences drop down menu. Select the one that allows online help connection as well as local.
    7.    Click "download" to begin the folder download. The downloaded folders are more than 1 GB for the CS6 Master Suite help files. Watch at the bottom left of the download window to see the small progress meter.
    8.    Once done, reboot.
    My CS6 Master Collection help menus throughout were fixed by completing the above.

  • Online help doesn't work

    I have just installed HTML DB stand alone release on my W2000 9.2.0.5 database.
    The install process worked fine.
    But the HTML DB online help doesn't work. when i click on the help icon the popup is there but with no contents.
    When i click on the link:
    Find (initial index creation may take several seconds)
    This errors appears:
    Error creating online help index.
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1022 ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    I thought that my oracle text was not or improperly installed because the CTXSYS account was locked. So i decided to reinstall it but with no success.
    I decided to reinstall HTML DB (local install this time)but again it doesn't work
    I searched in the forum, but it seems that nobody had meet the same issue, except HTMLDB.com (reinstall of oracle text was the solution)
    I would like to try this new product but with the online help

    Just to clarify why this is happening this way.
    The online help contents are not loaded nor indexed at installation time. In a new installation, the very first time the help window is displayed and you click the 'Find' link, the help contents will be fetched and indexed using Oracle Text. They are fetched via HTTP by GETting them from the Oracle HTTP Server (they are static files under the images hierarchy, after all).
    The URLs to fetch the help documents are constructed using the SERVER_NAME CGI environment variable as a component of the URL. So at indexing time, the database will issue HTTP GET requests to a specific URL, and if this URL cannot be located or the name not resolved, then issues will arise like you have witnessed.

  • Error while creating my first  project on SP15 and why Help doesn't work?

    I have a fresh SP15 installtion.
    I have 2 problems creating my first webdynpro project.
    1.When I go to file-new-project-webdynpro->(enter name)->next ,  I have windows poped up with the following error:

    2.My Help doesn't work at all - it used to be (with SP11 slim) when i go - 'Help-SAP was docum-SAP webdynpro appl ' and I had my help window poped up.Now I dont have anything!

    For your information there's another solution if you don't wanna reinstall your NDS or if the reinstallaion doesn't work.
    The error is in the resources so you have to replace some plugin resources to correct the error. Because of that you need access to the resources from somewhere else.
    1. Go to c:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Documents\SAP\workspace\.metadata\.plugins and replace org.eclipse.core.resources with a "working" resource
    2. Go to C:\Program Files\SAP\JDT\eclipse\plugins and replace org.eclipse.core.resources.win32_2.1.0 and org.eclipse.core.resources_2.1.1 with a "working" resource.
    Restart NDS and it ought to work

    As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

    I have a problem in Outlook 2013 which I've been able to replicate on two separate PCs, operating against two separate Exchange servers.  In both cases, archiving of old items does not work in Outlook 2013 when cached mode is enabled.  It works
    fine if cached mode is switched off so I don't believe the problem is related to the archiving settings.
    Has anyone else come across this?

    Based on my knowledge, Outlook auto archieve setting is stored in registry and only affects on local host.
    If the AutoArchive doesn't work anymore, please refer to the follow article to troubleshoot the issue

    If we are talking about Microsoft Exchange Online Archiving, I think it would run fine when you in Exchange online mode as your expected.

  • InDesign CS6 Font doesn't work in table cells

    Hi all!
    I'm working in InDesign CS6 on Mac OS 10.6 Leopard.  I have character and paragraph styles defined using a certain font, and they work just fine except when using them in table cells.  I have the character style nested in the paragraph style, which is then used in the cell style.  But it doesn't work.  It inherits everything correctly except for the font.  If I select the text, the font menu tells me it is the correct font, but it displays in a different font.  I've tried exporting to IDML and resaving, but that didn't work.  I'm stumped

    Indeed it should, and I see why using a formatted table would cause conflicts, but I am importing it as an unformatted table already.  Built all styles in InDesign first, then imported as unformatted table.  A few times it did work as expected, but most of the time it steadfastly refused to apply the correct font.
    But in any case, that wasn't my only issue with the tables.  My understanding of importing Excel spreadsheets is that applied table and cell styles will be maintained when the linked file is updated, but local formatting/overrides will be wiped out, which is why I was trying to get the styles working in the first place.  However, after testing, I found that even when I didn't use local formatting/overrides, updating the linked file still broke my InDesign layout.
    In my test, the only thing I did to the imported (unformatted) table was to apply the table/cell styles and adjust column width (which is unavoidable as far as I know - didn't see anywhere I could set column width as part of a style).  But even then an update to the linked file removed all the styles and column widths I had set (and was also highly annoying as it gave me a separate error message about the formatting loss for each and every instance of the spreadsheet).
    Could be a fluke, or could be I'm missing something, but for whatever reason, I just couldn't get it to work

  • CS6 serial doesn't work to install Acrobat X Pro.

    I've created a deployment of Acrobat X Pro with the Adobe Customization Wizard X.  This is because AAMEE doesn't support Acrobat.  Adobe support tells me I need to use my CS6 serial but no matter what I try my CS6 key won't work.  A dedicated, standalone key for Acrobat X Pro works, but not my CS6 key.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Adobe phone support was no help.  Thanks!

    A CS6 serial number will NOT work with the Acrobat Customization Wizard. You were misinformed by Adobe support (If you can PM me a case number, I can ensure that this training need gets addressed with the agent/team in question). Only Acrobat serial numbers will be accepted by the Customization Wizard.
    The usual way to use a CS6 serial number in conjunction with an Acrobat deployment is to package your CS6 suite using AAMEE 3.0, deploy Acrobat (as so-called Execeptions payload) using the commands documented in the AAMEE deployment guide, followed by a deployment of the Suite package.
    This process is documented in the Enterprise Deployment Guide (linked here from the forums, and available at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html).

  • "help" doesn't work

    When I start to type any for of question into the "Help" box of ANY application the iMac just freezes and the beachball starts to rotate. Eventually the typing is entered but after quite a delay, probably 30 seconds per letter.
    Anyone ever come across this before?

    Sometimes just closing and reopening the Help window will clear up the problem. Otherwise, you may need to delete the Help cache.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select 
    Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Trash. Log out, log back in, and test. Help pages will be slow to load at first.
    If that doesn't work, the problem may be caused by network conditions. It may go away by itself, though I can't say how long you should wait.
       A persistent failure to load help data has been reported as an issue with satellite networks. Test on a different network, if possible. I've also seen at least one report that Photo Stream in iCloud can mysteriously interfere with Help. I'm not sure whether that's true, but try disabling Photo Stream, if applicable.*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Eyedropper tool doesn't work in Index Mode

    When I am in Index mode, and I bring up the color table, the eyedropper tool doesn't work unless I right-click and choose one of the point sample averages. And even then, it doesn't always work unless I hit some combination of Shift-control-option-command. I'm still not sure what the combination is since it seems to differ a little depending on Photoshop's mood.
    I can remember there was this problem a couple of versions back, and Adobe fixed it after about a year or so.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

    Thanks for the temporary solution. The is the same bug was in CS3 then fixed ic CS4. Now it's back in CS5.
    I've only had this bug with Macs not PCs. "YES IT'S A BUG!" Question: Is there anybody from Adobe who reads this? Can someone at adobe please tell us when this Mac bug will be fixed? For a premium product at such a price, Photoshop shouldn't have a bug like this. Adobe should be more responsive! Think of the difficulty people like me who write textbooks must have. To give one technique for a PC and then a workaround technique for a MAC. I implore anyone who is experiencing this problem to contact Adobe & let them know about it!   • Adobe Community Help Doesn't Work

    For some reason, the help pages don't work, either in Photoshop CS5 Extended (12.0.4) or in Bridge (4.0.5.11).  When I go to Help>Photoshop help (or Bridge help), I get the Adobe Community Help Page, but nothing on the right side of the page works.  I can try to click on any link and nothing happens.  (I am signed in, but that didn't matter.)  I can only eanter a search request on the left and get search responses.
    I was prompted earlier in the day to update Adobe Help with a thing called "airappinstaller".  Adobe Community Help "about" page says I have version 3.5.0.23 and that my help is "up to date."  I tried restarting  but it still doesn't work.  What's up?

    After installing the Adobe Air update I can reproduce the problem with Photoshop CS5 standard 12.0.4 on Windows 7 x64, Steve. 
    The cursor changes to a finger when I hover over the links in the right pane, but nothing in particular happens when they're left-clicked.
    I can right-click a link and choose open in new tab.  That does in fact open the selected page in a new tab. 
    I can click the link in the upper-right and the page opens in Internet Explorer 9, at which point all the links work, no problem.
    I can see the Air installation was successful in the Windows Application log, but no error or other message is logged when I attempt unsuccessfully to use it.
    I'm going to try logging off and on again.  Edit:  Nope, that didn't help anything.
    No modifier keys get a left-click to do anything.
    The Back button works.
    I get a pop-up menu when I click on Welcome, Noel Carboni, but clicking on any of the entries does nothing.
    I can click in the Black Search field at the upper right, and it puts a cursor there.  I can type and when I hit enter the search causes the page to change.
    When I hit the Home button all the little Ps etc. icons appear, and if I click on one it takes me to the page.
    It seems like only the left-click function for navigating on text links is broken.
    Anything else you'd like me to check?

    Yes, kglad I tried this in a new document, and it works.
    Don't know why it didn't work for the old one. Maybe I've mistaken
    something...somewhere... who knows... Anyway, I don't need the text
    white anymore, because I redesigned everything and I think it looks
    better now, so it's not a problem.
    Can you advize me something on the mask issue? It's not so
    important but I'm curious. It could turn to be a problem if you
    have a fullscreen flash movie and have content out of the stage.
