CSS 1100 series Basics

Hi,
Although we have implemented the CSS and also it is working , i still doubt about the CSS working :(.
We have used the default round-robin algorithm for load balancing between servers.
In this method does the load balancing takes place session wise ( session initiated by clients ) or does the CSS sends the IP packets coming from outside world to two internal server IP's just in a roung robin manner.
I tried to search on cisco.com but could not get the exact answer.
any link on ciso.com or ant other TCP / IP web link ? Or any book which can give me the correct answer ( Tanenbaum, Komer ,... ) please suggest.
Thanks in advance.

  • Services with different IP address subnets over CSS 11500 series

    Hi all folks!
    I have two CSS 11500 series...
    In just a few months i will have ready a DRS (Disaster Recovery Site), where i will have 2 more servers to add to the environment.
    But this servers will be in a different subnet from that today i have for the servers who are configured in the current services of my CSS.
    So then the doubt i arises is:
    Is correct to add two new services with these servers, but using the IP addressing of the DRS site???, and including on the CSS a static route to this network, (of the DRS) in order to reach them?? is it correct, it will work well?
    This would be so....
                 ________________LAN to LAN_____________________
                 |                                                                                |
                 |                                                                                |
    |------SITE A------|                                                        |------SITE B------|
         [Firewall] ===============IPSEC============= [Firewall]
               |                                                                                |
               |                                                                                |
    [CSS-A]-[CSS-B]                                                            [SWITCH]
           |          |                                                                     |         |
         [SWITCH]                                                                    |         |
    [srvA] [srvB] [srvC]                                                          [srvD] [srvE]
    So, at [CSS-A] & B, i will put a static route to firewall that know the subnet of site B through the IPSEC tunnel.
    So In the CSSs, i will add the new services for the Servers "D" & "E" with the IP address of Site B.
    This should be seen as well:
    !*************************** GLOBAL ***************************
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 [IP FIREWALL]
    ip route SITE B [IP FIREWALL]
    !************************** SERVICE **************************
    service srvA
      ip address A.A.A.x
      port 8080
    service srvB
      ip address A.A.A.x+1
      port 8080
    service srvC
      ip address A.A.A.x+2
    port 8080
    service srvD
      ip address B.B.B.y
    port 8080
    service srvE
      ip address B.B.B.y+1
    port 8080
    I know that this practice is not the most desirable, in fact should use"Basic Global Server Load Balancing Site Redundancy Using the CSS with DNS", but I don't have much time to change the entire environment today, and in this first stage i have to begin with this poor but quick solution that i thought and i wanted to be validated if there is posibliidades this to work
    Within their experiences that they say? Will operate?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards!
    Esteban =)

    Daniel!
    Sorry by delay!
    Thank you so much for you time for reply.
    You have given me a great help to this doubt!
    But..using "source group" let me know..
    I can´t undertand the really difference between NAT with ACls as you can see at this link: (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_tech_note09186a0080093dfc.shtml)
    and
    this other link, using NAT (from the piont 5), (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_configuration_example09186a0080093dff.shtml)
    where the NAT is configured under a method different from the previous one..
    So.. for this scenario described above, which would you recommend using? I would think that the second is the most indicated truth? What do you think?
    Thanks in advance again!!!
    Have nice day!
    Regards.
    Esteban.

  • Load Balancing Linux servers with CSS 11050 series

    We would like to load balance Linux FTP and Web servers with a CSS 11050 series device. Does the content switch use SNMP to load balance the servers? If so, which MIBs need to be loaded on the servers?

    I dont believe that the CSS supports any SNMP load balancing mechanism.
    There is basically two factors involved in load balancing. One: the state of the servers which can be done via a range of mechanisms including ping, TCP connection, Application request, etc. Two: the way a server is chosen when a request comes in including round-robin, least connections, ACA etc.

  • Battery for DV5 entertainment 1100-series

    Hi everybody,
    I've bought a pavilion DV5 1100-series for over 1 year, the battery does no longer work (No more power: impossible to boot/run with the battery, the power line must be used). No warranty, then I have to buy a new one.
    I find 2 batteries, which suit to such a pavilion DV5 1100-series:
    - HP 6-cell primary battery (EV06) KS524AA
    it seems to be the same type as the one delivered with my notebook, 143 CHF today and 1 year warranty on hpstore switzerland
    - HP 6-cell extended-life battery (MU06) WD548AA
    3 years warranty and cheaper (119 CHF) as the previous one
    Can anyone tell me, which are the other differences between the 2 batteries, that could explain the price (the one with a longer warranty is cheaper as the another) ?
    Thanks for your advices
    Céline

    According to HP there are only 2 options for Batteries currently

    EV06 is the standard battery that was shipped with the laptop when new., the MU06 is better and designed with newer technologies and will have more run time.
    MU09 will have more run time than the MU06

  • Do CSS 11500 series allow remote SPAN?

    Hi,
    I found SPAN (Switch port analyzer) is available on CSS 11500 series, but could only found destination must be local. Is it possible to do remote SPAN and make the destination be in another remote switch?
    And how many local span sessions are allowed?
    Thanks,
    Rgds
    Jorge

    Cisco WebNS Software Version 7.20 delivers support for a new Cisco CSS 11501 model and Cisco WebNS Software 7.20 supports SPAN the features.
    Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) or port mirroring is useful for network analysis?a copy of the packets received or transmitted by a source port is sent to a designated destination port.

  • CSS 11500 Series Query

    Hi
    I have 2 CSS 11500 series units working in a master / slave configuration.
    Both units are identical in regards to hardware, IOS, etc.
    1 unit allows the running config to be saved by the ' copy run start' command where the other goes through the motions of saving, but a 'show startup-config' shows nothing.
    This unit seems to be operational in every other regard. Is this a hardware fault or am I missing a software command somewhere along the way ?
    Thanks
    Ian

    You get such problems when the device is running short of memory. Try increasing the DRAM because what is happening is that the device saves the config in the NVRAM but it does not have enough DRAM to display the configuration when the "sh startup-config" command is executed. A temporary solution is to restart the device, if the problem persists then you have to upgrade the memory.

  • HP 1100 Series Communication

    Has anyone ever worked with communicating through GPIB to the HP 1100 Series (I'm working with the pump but that is not critical.) Do you know the chain of commands in order to Query the instrument? Do they have to be in HEX?

    You should be able to either find a driver for this, or go to HPs website (good luck navigating it, its not even close to as easy to use as NI's) to find the answers you are looking for.
    Alternatively, you may have to find or request from HP a copy of the programming manual if a driver doesn't exist. It is always good to have the programming manual even if you have the drivers, as the commandset in drivers (especially for HP) is usually incomplete and sometimes even inaccurate.
    Good luck

  • AP1010 Vs 1100 Series

    Hi,
    Could you guys please tell me the differences between the 1000 series and the 1100 series access points. We are using the WiSM and my boss has asked which are better to use?
    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,
    There is no concrete answer as to which AP is better. The 1000 series and 1100 series are both excellent products, that can be successfully deployed in most environments.The 1130 can be run as an IOS or LWAPP AP,while the 1000 series is stricly LWAPP.The 1130 has only built in antennas while the 1020 comes with RP-TNC antenna connectors that will allow flexibility in deployment models. The 1130 and 1000 series support different POE options which might influence your direction.If you are thinking about connecting a remote office to your wireless network then the 1030 is the way to go. Have a look at these links that may point out more of the simmilarities and differences for you;

    Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series Q&A
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6087/products_qanda_item0900aecd801b9189.shtml
    Here are some of the differences for comparison;
    The Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series is compliant with IEEE 802.3af. The Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series is also compliant with Cisco prestandard Power over Ethernet (PoE).
    The Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series is ready to install and easy to manage, reducing the cost of deployment and ongoing maintenance. The device is available in either a lightweight version, or as an autonomous version that may be field-upgraded to lightweight operation.
    The Cisco Aironet 1130AG Series has 3.0 and 4.5-dBi integrated diversity antennas for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, respectively. These antennas are integrated into the design-there are no separate antenna options.
    The Cisco 1000 Series supports local or inline power. Inline power is provided via a Cisco 802.3af inline power-capable switch or by using the 802.3af Cisco 1000 Series Power Injector. The Cisco 1000 Series does not support Cisco prestandard Power over Ethernet.
    Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access points must be used in conjunction with a Cisco wireless LAN controller, which is responsible for handling system-level wireless LAN functions such as security, RF management, wireless LAN configuration, and mobility.
    All 1000 Series models are dual-band 802.11a/b/g lightweight access points that support integrated antennas in the 2.4- and 5-GHz bands. The 1020 model is equipped with RP-TNC antenna connectors in addition to dual-band internal antennas. The 1030 Remote-Edge Access Points (REAP) support the same antenna options as 1020 model lightweight access points, but can be connected over a WAN to a centrally located wireless LAN controller. The 1030 model is ideal for extending unified wireless LAN services to remote enterprise facilities.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe recommends: CSS page layout basics

    Over the next week, we are going to be publicizing some high-value content  from adobe.com and other community sites. We have been tracking what's   been most important to our users, and feel that getting this content out to the larger community will go a long way toward helping people tackle some of their most pressing challenges.
    Continuing on our quest for great layout tips, our next recommendation comes from yours truly:
    CSS page layout basics
    This article takes you through the A-Z of what makes up a basic CSS layout. It also shows you how to use some of the CSS layouts that come packaged with Dreamweaver.
    Give it a spin and let us know what you think!
    Previous recommendation threads:
    Use Dreamweaver CS 5.5 to package your web application for iOS and Android devices
    Customizing a Spry Menu Bar widget
    Spry Menu Bar resources
    Layout 101

    Although I love sending newbies to tutorials, I am sometimes stuck with a quandary especially when I see the word basics.
    To me, a basic layout does not require any more than
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    <head>
      <meta charset="utf-8">
      <title>Untitled Document</title>
      <style>
              body {width: 960px; margin: auto;}
              #header {height: 85px; background: #060;}
              #nav {height: 35px; background: #000;}
              #aside {height: 400px; width: 180px; background: #999; float: left;}
              #article {margin-left: 200px;}
              #footer {height: 35px; background: #000; clear: both;}
         </style>
    </head>
    <body>
      <div id="header"></div>
      <div id="nav"></div>
      <div id="aside"></div>
      <div id="article"></div>
      <div id="footer"></div>
    </body>
    </html>
    In the above I have used fixed heights. That is because I have not placed any content into the div elements, but still wanted to show the outcome.
    When the basic layout has been settled on, we can start with our niceties like resetting styles, padding for the content etc. I have noticed that David Powers has written an article (which I have not as yet read) on Modernizr wich will help as a good starting point.
    The main thing to keep in mind is to keep it simple.
    Gramps
    Oops! Sorry! the Modernizr article goes way beyond the basics. Please only tackle this if you are brave enough. The reason I thought that it may be a good starting point is beacause I have been using HTML5Boilerplate (which includes Modernizr) for quite some time now.

  • CSS 11000 series with load balancing for high availablity servers

    Hi,
    We have arrived at a designed,which has 2 PIX firewall(525)in a fault tolerant mode.Two interfaces from each of the PIX is connected directly to two css1000 switch which works in a fault tolerant mode.
    other Two interface from each of the two css11000 switch is connected directly to two catalys 4003 switches to which we have Servers attached.
    Pls let me know whether this design will work or If you could suggest some other design for high availablity servers which are kept at the DMZ.
    Pls note in our design the internet user first hit the frewall and then the CSS11000 and then catalys 4003 and finally the Servers.
    If anyone can help me out,pls send me a mail at [email protected]

    Are the PIXes to be setup in a failover bundle?
    If you use two interfaces in each PIX to connect
    to the two CSS systems, are you not complicating the
    setup? Which of the two should be called the inside?
    I cannot recall whether you can have two inside legs at the current PIX level.

  • Cisco CSS 11150 Series switch and DNS Sticky

    Hi,
    I have currently have two internet independent facing CSS11154 switches with two web server farm environment across both of them.
    I have a single URL that round robins between my internet facing links for these server farms.
    The application is based on ssl connectivity to a web farm, because of the application and need to maintain session transactions, I have needed to use “advanced-balance stick-srcip”.
    When using one leg (internet link) it works fine, no problem and visa versa.
    However, when I turn both of them on my application fails.
    Would I need to incorporate DNS Sticky to resolve my issue ?
    This is one of the configs from one of the CSS Switches, the other has a similar config different servers.

    looks like you will need dns sticky indeed.
    To be 100% sure you should capture a sniffer trace of a failure.
    But most probably this is a dns sticky problem.
    Follow this link for sample configuration of dns sticky.

    2. Does it signalize some issue on the service?
    Thanks a lot for the help!

    Hi Marko,
    Please go through the below link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/css11500series/v8.20/configuration/content_lb/guide/ContRule.html#wpmkr1150644
    Just pasting some content. Read the details please.
    Slowly Starting Connections on a Service
    When you configure a content rule with the least connection (leastconn) load-balancing method, a service on the rule with the fewest connections receives the next request. If you activate a service on this rule, the service may become flooded with requests.
    To prevent the flooding of connections on a newly activated or reactivated service, you can enable the slow-start feature on a content rule configured with the leastconn load-balancing method. Through this feature, you can configure:
    •The rate that an activated service receives connections. The slow-start rate is applied globally to all leastconn content rules on the CSS. By default, the rate is enabled with a default value of 3. If you disable the rate by setting it to 0, the slow-start feature is disabled on all leastconn content rules configured on the CSS.
    Note We recommend that you do not change the slow-start rate default value.
    •The maximum time that the service remains in the slow-start process. The slow-start timer sets the number of seconds that the service on a leastconn content rule is in the slow-start process. The timer is applied to a leastconn content rule. By default, the timer is disabled. If the timer is disabled, the slow-start feature is disabled on the rule.
    When you enable the slow-start feature on the CSS and a leastconn rule, a service on the rule enters the slow-start process when you:
    •Add and activate a service to the rule
    •Reactivate a service after suspending it on the rule
    •Activate the rule
    When you activate a rule, it starts to load balance the connections on its services. The service with the least number of connections is selected to enter the slow-start process.
    When a rule has only two services, only one service can enter the slow-start process. When the rule has more than two services, a newly activated service can enter the slow-start process when one of the services is currently in the slow-start process and the other services are out of the slow-start process.
    A service in the slow-start process slowly continues to receive connections until either the slow-start timer expires or its connections equal the number of connections on the other active services of the rule. Then, the service exits the slow-start process and starts receiving connections as it normally would.

  • Aironet 1100 series web interface times out after few mins of inactivity

    Hello,
    I just upgraded an Aironet 1121G access point to IOS software version 12.3(8)JEC2 (file name: c1100-k9w7-tar.123-8.JEC2). I noticed that the HTTP web interface now times out after an inactivity of just a few minutes (dont have an exact number, but it times out between 2-4 mins of inactivity). Can this timeout period be changed..!? How? This wasnt happenning on the previous software version: 12.3(8)JEB1.
    Also, where can I find the online help files for the latest Cisco IOS software? I cant seem to find it on the Cisco website!
    Thanks much for all your help.. really appreciate it.

    Does anyone have any idea on this..!? Its terrible having to login every couple of mins..!
    Thanks :)
