CSS Gig/Cu port to Cat4k FastEthernet

In our lab I'm trying to get a CSS11503 with Gig over coper ports (SCM-2GE) to talk to a cat 4k fast ethernet port via cat5 straight-through. But no luck. Do those ports speak only with other Gig over copper switch ports? Or is there a way to get it to talk to the cat4k's fastethernet ports? Thanks.
Here is the output from phy? Notice that the 100 Mbits settings are only allowed for 10/100 ports. Also the AUTO setting will not work for these Gig over copper ports.
CSS11503(config-if[ 1/1])# phy ?
100Mbits-FD 10/100 ports only. Set to 100 Mbits/s, Full-Duplex
100Mbits-HD 10/100 ports only. Set to 100 Mbits/s, Half-Duplex
10Mbits-FD 10/100 ports only. Set to 10 Mbits/s, Full-Duplex
10Mbits-HD 10/100 ports only. Set to 10 Mbits/s, Half-Duplex
1Gbits-FD-asym Gigabit ports only. Set to Full duplex with asymmetric
pause toward link partner
1Gbits-FD-no-pause Gigabit ports only. Set to Full duplex with no pause
1Gbits-FD-sym Gigabit ports only. Set to Full duplex with symmetric
pause
1Gbits-FD-sym-asym Gigabit ports only. Set to Full duplex with symmetric and
asymmetric pause toward local device
auto-negotiate Allow the interface to auto-negotiate speed and duplex
mode.
CSS11503(config-if[ 1/1])# phy auto
%% That syntax is only for 10/100 interfaces

Thanks. But no - I had already tried a cross-over cable and this did not solve the issue. I eventually located a GigE blade for the Cat4k and *that* is the issue. The gig ports on a CSS are (surprisingly) not compatible with Fast Ethernet ports. I say surprisingly as every workstation I've bought for the last 3-4 years that has had a 10/100/1000 card as worked fine with fast ethernet. Seems like Cisco went out of its way to make CSS Gig ports not compatible. Maybe to force upgrading! Can't figure WHY they would select an interface incompatible with Fast Ethernet. Maybe their marketing team was in on that as a way to spur cheap customers to more expensive switches.
BTW - it was a straight-through cable from the CSS to the Gig port on the Catalyst that brought link light.

  • LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number

    Hi,
My doubt is about LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number.
I have to install 3 servers machines and 2 servers databases cluster. There will be a HIGH AVAILABILITY environment. There will be a MIGRATION and UPGRADE.
Today there are 2 servers machines in Windows NLB. Today my production Portal is 6 6.20.
Once, I did something for LABORATORY TEST. Migration (6 6.40) and Upgrade (7.0)in two other machines. But they were with Windows NLB. When I did the installation, for each server machine and during the instalation I had to give one Instance Number for each and in result there was a different Port Number for each.
But I accessed both machines throught a virtual url(dns) with a specific port number. And it works!
NOW, with a HARDWARE LOAD BALANCE _ CSS I don't know how to do.
A guy who works with it  tell us that couldn't redirect one Port Number for different port numbers. He couldn't configure the CSS like this.
My question is: Is he write? And if he is, there is a  way to give the same instance number for my 3 new Portal servers machines? Example: 5(02)00.
    Could you understand?
    I need help.
    Regards,
    cheers,
    Nivia

    Nivia,
I have used F5 for load balancing, I am sure you can do the same with CSS. Yes, you can configure a virtual IP on the load balancer with standard ports (80 or 443) and load balancing the traffic to multiple servers with different ports. You can have different ports for each instance.

  • 10 gig iSCSI port in MDS 9509

    Hi all,
I have a requirement of 128 port SAN switch (Director class)
    -          15 ports should be iSCSI 10g
    -          Rest 113 port should be 8 Gbps FC
I am planning to go with two DS-X9248-96K9 module and one DS-X9224-96K9 to meet 120 ports. But I didnt find any 10 gig iSCSI port which is suported in 9509/9506 chassis. Can you please suggest? I can see only GE modules like DS-X9316-SSNK9.
Also please suggest whether we get line speed in 48-Port 8-Gbps  Fibre Channel Switching Modules?
    Thanks in advance,
          Raghavendra

Correct...the key is that the 48 port line card has the 96 in the p/n.  That indicates is it a performance module and has the 6 port groups.  There is also what is called a 48 port 8 gig host optimized line card.  That one only has 4 groups of 12, in which 1 of those (4 total) can operate in 8gig mode.
The 24 port line card has 8 groups of 3 port...and 1 of those (8 total) can operate in 8 gig mode.
As for the 10 gig iSCSI ports on the MDS...that will probaly not be a feature that the MDS will ever adopt.  The MDS is an iSCSI gateway, where by iSCSI initiator can access a native FC target.  With the advent of more and more natice iSCSI targets, and the move to 10GE, the Nexus 5K is the swtich to use.  It can host iSCSI targets and initiators and provide 10GE for both.  The MDS is not a 10GE switch.
    -hope this helps,
    Mike

  • CSS -Can TCP port number under the VIP be different to real server TCP Port

    Client

  • 10 Gig Trunk Port

I'm setting up two 3750E switches on a bench prior to installing them  - with a ten Gig port trunk port between them. I am running PVST and have pretty standard switch configuration.   Show span indicates that all my vlans are forwarding between the ports but the packet rate keeps increasing as if its in a loop.  Must be something obvious but can't find it - is there anything special you have to do to those ten GIG Modules to get them to work.
    # interface ten gig 1/0/2
    # sw trunk enc dot1q
    # sw mode trunk
    # sw nonegotiate

pardon me. I thought you are saying that packets are dropping but you are talking about STP loop.
As mentioned in other post, check  if this link creating STP loop because of UDLD ?  Maybe one of your cable not working or some other reason.
Though in LR you dont need an attenuator but check the power levels at both sides. Are they within receiver sensitivity? as you must be  connecting back to back just with patch cables.

  • Incoming CSS traffic via port 80 but outbound to servers is port 8081

    Dear Team,
Is it possible that incoming port 80 traffic to the CSS loadbalancer be changed on its outbound path? Basically port 80 traffic received by the CSS will be converted to port 8081 when going to the loadbalanced servers.
Please send a sample configuration guide if this is possible.
    Thannks in advance.

the config seems to be pretty straight

  • Adding new Gig Ethernet port to G4 AGP

I think the Ethernet port on my G4 500 AGP is dying and I would like to just replace it with a PCI card. I found a good deal on a Linkskey LKG-6100 GigE card that seems to be compatable with OS X according to the manufacturer's site.
Anyone have any experience with adding GigE to a G4? Has anyone else used this card or can you recommend something else?

Thanks for the tip on Dlink Tom. I did some more searching and found a link to the OS X drivers for the newer DGE530T here:

I just ordered it and I will let you know how it goes!

  • Giga ethernet ports switch from one to other

I have a DSL and a cable connection, I know I can't use both at the same time. So my question is if I have both plugged into the Pro how do I turn one on and other off?
do I need to reboot ?
    Thanks
    Dennis

    Hi thelip,
You can enable and disable ports in the Networks preference pane. You could setup a seperate DSL and Cable location to help make it easier.
For more information about enabling and disabling Ethernet ports, see the Apple support document at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106800

  • MTU on FE/GigE trunk ports

Is setting the 'mpls mtu' sufficient for increasing the MTU size for tagged packets or do I need to modify the MTU on the master interface also ? We are using trunking (dot1q) as well.
Also, once I've set the mpls MTU, will I need to go to all the ethernet switches and configure jumbo frame support ?
What the max MTU size I should set ?
    Thanks for any help.
    = K

From the router perspective, setting the "mpls mtu" is all you need.
You need to make sure the switch is configured to support baby giants. The following URL can help you with that task.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_configuration_example09186a008010edab.shtml
Tha maximum MTU you should set is dependent on what type of MPLS application you are running (number of labels involved). It is safe though to set it to 1524, which would basically allow you to hold 6 labels (more than you really need bu won't hurt).
    Hope this helps,

  • 2960 uplink Giga ports Slow

    Dear Sir's
It is the first time I used this forum, and I wish that you can help me.
I have 2 Catalyst WS-C2960-24-TC-L and WS-C2960-48-TC-L each one of them connected to other network with SPF on one of the Giga uplink ports.
now I have one empty Giga uplink port on each one, so I connect them to 2 servers ( having giga network card inside ).
tha problem is that these 2 servers becomes very slow than connecting them to normal 100 MBPS ports.
My servers network status show 1 GBPS speed, but speed very low.
Is there is some setting for these uplink ports to have a real speed Of 1 GBPS.
    Thanks in advance.
    Eng. Amgad Steen

If you do a show interface status on the switches what does it show for the interface speed and duplex ? Also verify patches are good , to run gig speed you have to have a good patch that has all 8 wires , gig uses all 8 wires . Normally to run gig you just leave the ports as auto and they will negotiate gig if both sides are capable.

    Hello Deep,
    If you are handy with building ethernet cables, the simple explanation is;
    1. Redirect Pin 1 to Pin 3 and Pin 2 to Pin 6.
    2. Make sure you create tight twists to account for signal interference at such a short length.
    Hope it Help !!

  • Cat 3750-Span (Port Mirroring issue)

    Hello team
I am facing port mirroring issue in my setup. Details of the setup are mentioned below
    Setup--
Stack of 4 catalyst switches WS-C3750X-48P running software 15.0(1) SE3 .Approximately 12 vlans are configured in this setup and port mirroring is done for all vlans with destination configured as single Gig Ethernet port...The setup works fine from mirroring perspective for 3-4 days and after that machine connected to destination port stops getting data.
    Observations-
It has been observed that during the issue, the port configured for mirror destination has lot of packet drop/input errors on the port statistics.
If we configure only TX packet mirroring, it works for 8 -10 days
If we configure TX & RX packet mirroring, it works for 2-3 days
    Testing done
Tried clearing counter on destination port but no success (mirroring doesn’t start)
Tried  shut /no shut for the destination port but no success.
Tried restarting the machine connected to destination port but no success
    Workaround
We need to reconfigure the mirroring configuration after removing the mirroring config from the switch. Once the same is done, mirroring starts working.
    Want to understand
1-is there any HW limitation for the switch (destination port not capable of handling mirroring traffic)
2-is there any software related issue?
3-what can be permanent resolution for the same..

    Hello
We have tried this previously but found same result.
1- we deleted the monitror session and recreated again with same session number
2-we deleted the monitor session and created new session (session id diffrent ) with same config..
in both cases its working for 3-4 days..

  • Cisco 3925 looking for Gig ethernet card recommendation

I am looking to add 2 Gig ethernet ports into one of the card slots of the cisco 3900 router. I was given the following two part numbers and these look like serial ports NM-1T3/E3 or Vwic3-2MFT T1/E1. Comments please

Exactly what are you trying to do?  What are these "2 Gig ethernet ports" going to be connected to?

  • Ports 1,2,3 will not dial out port 0 fine

    Dear community,
I could use a little direction..
    I have a 2821 "COMHS00ARB" SN: FTX1302A1UP
It has a VIC2-4FXO on port zero I have an analog phone line that functions perfectly, on ports 1,2,3 I get dial tone and they will receive calls but will not dial out.
    other interesting observations:
1: If I connect a laptop to GE 0/1 I get not LAN Lights port GE 0/0 is fine and is the uplink
2: the Gig E port on the NME port I can not get LAN lights if I plug cable in from laptop
3: Aux on front of chassis same no lights on LAN
My first thought is to replace the VIC2-4FXO card to see if its faulty
My second thought is that maybe the 2821 has taken a hit from lightening.. however all internal phones seam to be fully functional, although when I select the line on the corresponding LCD hard button I do not get the hard button to light, even on the working line?
Any directions would be greatly appreciated,
Also if I replace card do I need to worry about firmware versions?

    Hello,
It seems that the number you are trying to dial is not correct or the dialplan does not recognize it.
    HTH,
    Alex
