CSS11800 - High CPU with Sticky and L3 rule
I have a customer who wants to maintain sticky between TCP80 and TCP443, so we selected a L3 content rule.
content L3_www.ourcustomer.com
vip address 1.2.3.4
sticky-mask 255.255.128.0
add service web004
add service web005
add service web006
sticky-inact-timeout 10
advanced-balance sticky-srcip
active
The problem I see is that without a low inactivity timeout the CPU goes through the roof to 100%. Even with 10 minute inactivity timer it rockets to 60-80% CPU, but at least it isn't locked at 100% (which causes latency and other problems).
The customer is pushing 12Mbps with on average 5-10K connections. No sticky rejects or collisions and plenty of FCBs available. At any time the average number of used sticky entries is 8-10K.
I can make the CPU immediately drop like a rock to 1-10% by simply purging the sticky table or by removing sticky from the content rule. As a result I am confident the issue appears to be sticky related. I didn't find any bugs opened on this issue tho. We run sticky for quite a few customers and have rarely, if ever, seen anything like this before.
I did some testing in production and experienced this high CPU problem with 4.01.44.s, 5.01.69s and 6.10.405 and saw it on a CSS11150 before I moved the customer to a CSS11800 where we experience the same exact issue.
I have dozens of CSS11150s, CSS11800s, and a few CSS11500 series in production but never experienced this on any version of code before.
Has anyone seen this before? Due to "shopping cart" issues we need to maintain persistence between 80->443 transitions so I think I am stuck with sticky and a L3 rule.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Mike
I have also not seen an issue like this. Have you tried with changing the sticky inactivity timeout and did that help. You could find more information on how the entries are removed in the following document.

R12: Create on-account Credit Memo with invoicing and accounting rules
In R12.1.2: when using the AR_INVOICE_API_PUB it seems to be impossible to create a on-account Credit Memo with invoicing and accounting rules. The next errors are returned by the API:
- AR_INAPI_INV_RULE_NOT_REQUIRED
Do not include an invoicing rule if the transaction type's class is Debit Memo or Credit Memo.
- AR_INAPI_RULE_NOT_ALLOWED
Do not enter an invoicing or accounting rule for on-account credit memos
Please advice how to create on-account Credit Memo with invoicing and accounting rules using an API.
Edited by: nl05517 on Jan 17, 2011 10:43 PMWe will use the AR_CREDIT_MEMO_API_PUB api.

FPEnumerateExt2 and high CPU with Network Homes
Hi there, since 10.4 we are fighting against high cpu-load on our network home servers. With 10.4 the problem was delayed_ack which seems to be fixed in 10.5 server. But in Mac OS X 10.5 server the high cpu load isn't gone. Here it seems that FPEnumerateExt2 in the AFP communication is the problem. We extracted this in several network traces. FPEnumerateExt2 is an AFP command to get contents of a directory. The command is sent with a volume id and a directory id (which you can see with ls -li in terminal). The strange part is if we look deeper in this communication. We found that most of the FPEnumerateExt2-commands are sent twice. The first FPEnumerateExt2 is sent and one or two packets later there is a reply with the desired information. But then the FPEnumerateExt2 is sent again to the same volume id and the same directory id and the reply is "Object not found". The directories which FPEnumerateExt2 is asking for are NO tmp files or so which may change. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks for help!
I had the same issue on a 2008 R2 terminal server,, so much research I put into it and not a lot of consistent help on this issue. I finally ran a
winmgmt.exe /resetrepository to start the sync over and CPU dropped to normal function.
I have been monitoring it all day and it seems fine, If it comes back I'll set the damn thing on a batch and schedule haha.

I have setup a 2.3DP XServer running Tiger/1047 and it seems to be working fine. This is a stand alone box with accounts imported from our main 2.0 SP XServer running Panther/1039 (both are stand alone). Most of these accounts were taken from a 10.1.5 server (without any issues).
For some odd reason, I am seeing extremely high CPU utilization for the users connection. Sometimes one users will cause AFP (root) to run at upwards of 90% CPU (using all of one CPU). SMB is similar - we have one remote user connecting this way.
The Tiger server went into production (pre-production at this point) as 10.4.7 and has only been rebooted once (which is really too much, but I digress). I have stoped and started AFP, but its still going crazy hogging the CPU. I have not seen anything like this on our 10.3.9 box (even when it was 10.3.7).
The Tiger box has the following services running:
AFP
Software Update (but not functioning yet ...)
Web
Windows (SMB)
The only other things that come to mind is one of the shares (there are only 3) is self mounted on the servers desktop over "SMB" (though I'm told its not exactly like mounting a remote SMB volume).
The system have the PCI video card (Radeon) but is not running with monitor ...
and I'm am showing the following errors
Aug 31 03:43:14 4ql5d91 servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no reverse DNS entry for server, various services may not function properly
Aug 31 04:13:14 4ql5d91 servermgrd: servermgr_dns: more than one name for the primary IP address, unable to pick one
we have the DNS setup for two domains ... also the random promp "4ql5d91" is annoying (I've seen this in OS X client frequently, but have not shown it to cause any problem).
Any ideas as to how to resolve the performance issue?

High CPU usage, overheating, and high fan speed on DV4-1125nr
the process igfxsrvc.exe is running in between 30 and 40 of my CPU. my total CPU is about 55% or so while idle. i tried disabling that driver, and it's CPU went down to about 20, but my total CPU was still at the same place, if not a little higher. also, my computor is overheating a lot, and my fan is constantly running on it's highest speed. i do not believe that this is caused by a dirty vent. also, I have checked the version of the graphics driver and the BIOS(both of which i saw the suggestion to update by several people having similar problems) and both are up to date. what is the problem? am i being highjacked/ infested with viruses and i dont know it despite having already ran all my virus protection and anti-malware programs? someone please help before i have to take it to geek squad! thank you in advance!
Hello,
I decided to sacrifice a little bit of performance for the sake of cool temperatures and silent fan. I have HP DV6, with AMD Turion RM-74 and HD4650.
So, Yes, You will loose up to 15 percent Your CPU power, but heyh, this processor is so fast that You will barelly notice the change. You will still watch HD content with 720p and everything else smoothly. Note, that gaming will be harder part but consider Your laptop not as a device created for heavy gaming.
At one point or another, during games, someday Your notebook inevitably colapse. It's just not meant for gaming, no matter what the specs are...
So, how to reduce Your notebook temps:
(i) Power Options -> More power options,
(ii) Balanced plan -> Change settings,
(iii) Change advanced power settings
(iv) Processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> On Battery - 50 percent, Plugged in - 85 percent.
(vi) Save changes and close.
Now, mine temperatures are - idle 48, heavy load - 57, extremelly heavy load (HD 720p content) - 62-63. (At the moment my CPU cores are at 47 celsius).
CPU still works fast, not so fast as it is working on 100 percent, but hey, fan is silent, and if You want gaming - go to Your desktop pc, leave notebook for lighter tasks, even though the notebooks specs are high,
it simply cannot handle the heat.
Best regards.

High CPU with low loaded cluster
We have four nodes in our cluster and from time to time notice severely decreased performance. The servers show high CPU usage, but when I take thread dumps, there is not a lot of user activity. There are, however, many threads similar to the following:

It seems to me there might be an issue with WebLogic clustering, but I can't find any information about this particular stacktrace anywhere. Has anyone else seen any issues similar to this? We're running WebLogic 10.3 with Sun JDK 1.6.0_05 on Solaris 10.Are you using UNICAST Cluster? If yes please add -Dweblogic.unicast.HttpPing=true parameter to your Managed servers instances in Cluster, restart the cluster members and see if that resolves the issue.
Hope this helps.

We have a VSS based on 2x WS-C4500X-16., The VSS is used as Layer 2 Switch for diffrents Vlan in our DC.
After making the VSS as a Layer 3 gateway for our production VLAN and added 2 routes for routing purposes, we encountered a network down time with high CPU in the VSS and a huges log messages :

thanks for your reply, but there is no hsrp configured, just an interface vlan. with 2 static routes and the problem was there for more than an hour before we decided to rollback.

Kernel_Task High CPU Usage (300%) and Fan Speed - On Battery and Plugged In
Hi Everyone,
Came here to ask for help given my bad situation with MBA 13 Mid-2013 (Mavericks 10.9.2). Yesterday I`ve opened my MBA and it was very laggy and sluggish, and I could hear the fan going crazy on speed. After opening Activity Monitor, Kernel_Task was consuming 300% of CPU in average... I suspect that may be related to recently installed CleanMyMac2, after performing a series of cleaning tasks to save space on my MBA (couldn`t say I wasn`t afraid of doing it). But this situation came a week after the cleaning above, so it`s kind of confusing. Last app I've downloaded was OneNote from AppStore. Two days later the problem started out.
I`ve checked in a lot of discussions on this kernel situation, but none was like mine. The majority had relation with the Mac being on battery; after plugged in everything worked. In my case it happens both ways, on A/C and on battery. Tried the resets but no success at all. Also tried to boot in safe mode, but somehow didn`t work for me in Mavericks.
I`m desperate to find a solution but it`s kinda hard to find it. That`s why I`m asking for your help! Thanks a lot!!!
Here`s a system report to help!

MacbookPro High CPU, Power Drain, and Heats
Hey. I have just noticed my Macbook Pro has some problems: it has a high CPU usage, high energy impact, and high temperature.
This still happens when the laptop is idle. The temperature's around 70Celcius. In activity monitor, it doesn't show any apps using significant energy, but you can see a drastic battery drain.
I've attached some images.
Thanks for any help!
IanIan,
have you tried resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller? -
High CPU Utlisation ws2003 and 2008
I am trying to understand how to analyze High CPU Utilisation in WS 2003 and 2008 .How do I find the process causing the issue and entire days logs
.Please help meHi Ritesh,
To troubleshoot the high CPU Usage, you can also check these tools:
1. Task Manager (built-in to the O.S.)
2. Process Explorer
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Make sure to enable the Microsoft public symbol to get stack information.
3. Perfmon (built-in to the O.S.)
4. Windows Performance Toolkit (XPerf is what replaced KernRate for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/performance/default.aspx
5. Complete memory dump.

Wmiprvse.exe and high cpu with tzres.dll on 2008 R2
This sounds like a fairly common problem but I am about to go crazy troubleshooting this. I have a Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit server running RDS session host role as a virtual machine on VMware ESXi 5.0 update 2 with the latest patches and the
latest VMware Tools loaded. It has an average of about 15 users on it at any given time. I see CPU start to increase after a while and notice the WmiPrvSE.exe processing (running as Network Service) consuming any available cycles. Running
Process Monitor I see a bunch of references to tzres.dll stream by. I enabled WMI Logging and checked but it seems to be a select statement for all processes coming from PID 0. I tried using NetMon and looking but it doesn't seem to be coming from
a network endpoint. I looked at the time zone patch from December 2010 as mentioned in other threads but that doesn't install because I guess I am patched past it (Windows Update only has a Silverlight patch remaining). I tried to look at the threads
through Process Explorer and by taking dump of the process and opening it in Windbg but honestly I'm not really sure what I am looking at. Nothing looked unusual but again, I'm not very good with those tools. We are not running WSRM or SMS
agent.
Versions:
OS Version: 6.1.7601
Service Pack: 1.0
WMI Version: 7601.17514
C:\Windows\System32\wbem\WinMgmt.exe - 7/13/2009 8:39 PM, version 6.1.7600.16385, size 78.0 KB
C:\Windows\System32\wbem\WmiPrvSE.exe - 11/20/2010 9:24 PM, version 6.1.7601.17514, size 364 KB
C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll - 11/8/2012 11:45 PM, version 6.1.7601.17994, size 2.00 KB
C:\Windows\System32\tzutil.exe - 11/20/2010 9:24 PM, version 6.1.7601.17514, size 57.0 KB
Any help before I open up a case?I had the same issue on a 2008 R2 terminal server,, so much research I put into it and not a lot of consistent help on this issue. I finally ran a
winmgmt.exe /resetrepository to start the sync over and CPU dropped to normal function.
I have been monitoring it all day and it seems fine, If it comes back I'll set the damn thing on a batch and schedule haha.

Is there a documented correlation between high CPU/RAM usage and poor system performance?
I realize this subject is not black and white and has quite a bit of depth to it as high usage of either the CPU or RAM does not necessarily mean that a computer is running slowly.
However, is there any documentation, scientific research or academic journal that makes a correlation between poor system performance and the consumption of system resources.
It goes without saying that if you use all your RAM then there won't be any available for additional programs, but can this be substantiated with metrical data?Check this:

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any light on why my Macbook gets all hot and bothered whenever I play Flash video (i.e. from YouTube and others). After only a few seconds of streaming, the fans rev up and the CPU usage gets up pretty high, sometimes almost to 100%. This can't be normal, can it?
Anyone have any ideas for remedying this?Hi Glueslabs,
In addition to my post here is quote from Eric Kracinski:
Safari is one of those apps that eats up RAM and CPU cycles the longer you leave it open. Closing it out every now and again should free up some of the RAM that it has allocated to it,
taken from :
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4251872
And I agree too, the longer I use Safari with all streaming video or leave it open and idle, will trigger the fans to kick in.
Good Luck.

Sorry Eric, can I use your quote for this... -
I have just started to have interest in running this program. I have been a longtime user of PSE, maybe since PSE1 in 2003 or so. My PSE55 has suffered some type of ODBC issue within the past weeks or so.
So, I copy some photos, about 130 JPGs, to my laptop, Vista Home, 64-bit, Core 2 Duo P8400, 4GB DRAM, regularly updated with MS security updates, Avira AV.
Fire up PSE7. CPU is unusually high, but eventually settles down. I go to edit, wow, the CPU utilization just will not stop. My CPU bar from processexplorer is just pegged at 100%. The only way to get control over PSE editor is to kill the running process. Reboot, same problem. I only have a little over 100 photos in this sample, I have thousands which any product I use must be able to handle.
Why does this product run at 90-100% CPU. I've even disabled Avira. I'm an admin, so its not a rights issue, besides UAC hasn't asked me to elevate priviledges. I've run it in my wife's “user” account, same problem, except I do not even have to load a photo for photoeditor to be 100% CPU.
What is up with this product? To manager the performance settings of Editor, open Edit -> Preferences.
Under performance, select the memory usage slider and drag to the maximum.
In Organizer, and open the preferences, under Backup and Synchronization tab, Switch off Backup and Synchornization check box.
(or kill the process - syncagent.exe in Task manager)
These would improve the performance of PSE. -
Windowserver suddenly hogs cpu with Lightroom and Photoshop
I recently upgraded these software packages to 64bit and upgraded NIK plugins for each to the 64bit versions. Since then I've had problems with PS freezing while making adjustments using a NIK plugin (doesn't appear to be plug-in specific). Looking at the Activity Monitor I see windowserver up to 90+ cpu usage. Sometimes if I just wait it will recover, sometimes I have to shut everything down.
Anyone seeing this problem while using this software and if so have you found a remedy? This never happened while using the 32bit versions of all these packages. My understanding is that windowserver is an OS X application independent of software used. My question is whether others have seen windowserver start hogging CPU time while this specific software was being used and any Mac remedies that solve the issue. It's not an Adobe question.
