CUCM upgrade from 6.1(2) to 6.1(3b) - rollback problems...

Hi all,
I have upgraded our test lab CUCM server from 6.1(2) to 6.1(3b). Although we have a genuine MCS server bought from Cisco, we run only the demo licencing on the server (simply because we only have a few test phones and gateways running on the server).  We have rebuilt this server a few times so we may have had more licences installed previously - the 'demo' licencing seems to allow me test all i need to.
The upgrade to 6.1(3b) seemed to go ok.   My only concern was the time it took after the CUCM server restarted for the IP phones to 'register' - seemed to take 30 mins or more before they jumped into life and re-registered etc?  Is that normal?  (I suspect the CallManager Service took a while to start?)
However, I have had a few problems when trying to rollback the upgrade to the older partition. I followed the Cisco doco and all seemed to work ok, the CLI showed it selecting the old partition on the reboot, and then starting services for 6.1(2) [lots of green [OK] messages etc)
Upon the full restart of the server, i noticed that the CallManager Service and the Cisco Messaging Service were NOT running!   I tried all i could think of to get these to restart:Went to Service Activation – stopped and restarted the CallManager service and the other one.  Then went back to Feature Services. CallManager was ‘running’ then after i refresh the page it reverts to ‘Not Running’ !   IP Phones therefore do NOT register.
Tried a restart of the server (same partition) - Watching CLI during reboot – all green [OK] messages. No errors reported that i can see. IP phones still dont register when server restarts. The two services remain 'Not Running'
I then restarted using 'switch' and ran the upgraded CUCM version - this started fine, and all ran ok!  Phones regsitered, all seems fine!
I have attached a few screenshots, not sure if they are relevant or of any use.
Has anyone seen this issue before after an upgrade?  I am not overly comcerned becaue the 'upgrade' worked, but it would be nice to know i can rollback if i need to do incase of any issues.
Is there anywhere in CUCM i can check to see if the failed services are generating an error message or a reason for them not starting?
Thoughts appreciated
Rgds

Hey Andy,
Hope all is well buddy!
The problems you are seeing here are most likely "purely" License related due to the changes
that were implemented between 6.1(2) and 6.1(3). I don't see this being a problem with permanent
"production" Licenses. Have a look;
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases 7.1(2) and 6.1(3) introduce these licensing enhancements.
Description
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases 7.1(2) and 6.1(3) identify the state of a license; that is, if it is missing, if it is a demo license, or if it is an uploaded license. In addition, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration warns you whether Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with demo licenses, with an insufficient number of licenses, or with an incorrect software feature license.
GUI Changes
The following windows display the state of licenses in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Administration:
- Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with demo licenses, so upload the appropriate license files.
- Cisco Unified Communications Manager currently operates with an insufficient number of licenses, so upload additional license files.
- Cisco Unified Communications Manager does not currently use the correct software feature license. In this case, the Cisco CallManager service stops and does not start until you upload
the appropriate software version license and restart the Cisco CallManager service.
License File Upload (System > Licensing > License File Upload)-This window displays a message
that uploading the license file removes the demo licenses for the feature.
http://www.aironet.info/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/6_1_3/cucm-rel_note-613a.html#wp472518
Now for the Cisco Messaging Service
This is only used in "Legacy" integrations which I'm guessing is not
the setup for your lab, so you should be good to go here.
Cisco Messaging Interface Service
The Cisco Messaging Interface allows you to connect a simplified message desk interface (SMDI)-compliant external **Third Party** voice-mail system with the Cisco CallManager. The CMI service provides the communication between the voice-mail system and Cisco CallManager. The SMDI defines a way for a phone system to provide a voice-mail system with the information needed to intelligently process incoming calls.
Hope this helps!

  • CUCM upgrade from 7.1.5 to 10.5.1.10000-7

Is it possible to do the migration from 7.1.5 to 10.5.1.10000-7 which we are doing for jump upgrade from 7.1.5 to 9.1.2.
The reason why I preferred because this jump upgrade we can achieve in isolated network.
In that case can anybody please help to get specific document for that. Kindly have a look on this case.
    Regards,
    Abi

You can use prime collaboration deployment. PCD will do your upgrade and migration without doing any jump upgrade or intermediate upgrade..
Please refer to the vide below.

  • CUCM Upgrade from 8.6(2a) / 8.6.2.20000-2 to 8.6.(2a)SU2 (8.6.2.22900-9)

    I'm getting ready to upgrade a client's CUCM cluster from 8.6(2a) / 8.6.2.20000-2 to
8.6.(2a)SU2 (8.6.2.22900-9).  They use extension mobilty with UCCX version 8.5.1.11003-32.
Does anyone know of any issues with ugprading this cluster vis a vis their UCCX version ?
The current CUCM Version 8.6(2a) / 8.6.2.20000-2 shows a JTAPI shows the following JTAPI version:
    admin:show packages active cm-jtapi-
    Active Side Package(s): for cm-jtapi- package(s)

    http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074295/93949/cucm-readme-862asu2.pdf
    I see that it shows:
    cm-jtapi-plugin-8.6.2.10000-10.i386.rpm
Once I have performed the CUCM upgrade - do I need to upgrade the JTAPI plugin on the UCCX Platform?
    TIA

    Mohamed,
I have not actually peformed the upgrade yet.  If you have done so - please reply with any lessons learned that you have.
I would upload the file to all the servers in your cluster prior to your upgrade maintenance window.  This should not be service impacting.
Then during your upgrade maintenance window -
    Step 15 Once the Publisher and the subscribers have been upgraded, a version switch must be completed so                  the servers reboot to the new upgraded partition as follows;
Web Browse to the Publisher’s OS Administration GUI
To restart the system and activate the upgrade, choose Settings > Version; then, click Switch Version.
The system restarts and should be running the upgraded software. Once the Publisher is accessible, proceed with the subscribers.
    Good Luck,
    Amir

  • ELM shows insufficient licenses after CUCM upgrade from 9 to 10.0.1

    Hi All,
I just finished upgrading cucm 9 to cucm 10.0.1. Upgrade completed successfully, but elm now shows insufficient license message.
This is a Vmware installation BTW, I doubt that it matters the CUCM 901 worked fine with its ELM.
The ELM is coresident with CUCM. I though that upgrading CUCM will upgrade ELM too, but the Dashboard says to upgrade to latest version of ELM.
When I ordered upgrade through UCSS and downloaded all the files that were included in this upgrade order, one of the files was CiscoPrimeLM_64bitLnx_10.0.1.10000-19.sgn.iso.
I tried to use CUCM OS administration with this file to upgrade ELM, but OS Administration doesn't recognize it as a valid file.
The file that I used for CUCM upgrade was: UCSInstall_UCOS_10.0.1.10000-24.sgn.iso
So at this point I'm not sure whether ELM needs to be upgraded or I need new licenses for CUCM version 10.

Upgrading co-res CUCM should have upgraded your ELM as well.  It should now show as Prime License Manager when you log in.  I'm guessing you just don't have any CUWL 10.x licenses installed.  Can you attach a screenshot of the License Usage page in PLM?
You may need to email [email protected] to move your 9.x licensing to 10.x licenses.

  • Just upgraded from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4: Safari problems

I just upgraded from Mac OS 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4; everything is working fine, except as follows:
    1. Software Update does not work. It seems that it tries to connect to the Apple servers (I can see the router and modem lights blinking), but a connection does not take place (the lights blink a couple of times every few seconds).
    2. Safari connects without any problems to this and other Apple Support forums, but not to any of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Also, I believe that I may have caused the problem, and will give the details hoping that my problems with Safari may help others solve theirs. I may have made a mistake right after "upgrading" to OS 10.4, specifically after the required restart.
When my iMac G5 restarted, a registration form showed on the screen. The form was the data on my account. My account is not an Administrator account, but a "User" account instead. There was an option to change the account's "User's name," so I went ahead and slightly changed it by adding a "dot" to my first name initial (I don't use my first name, just my initial).
-The old account name was as follows: R
-So I changed the account name by adding a "dot" (.) right after the initial, to look as follows: R.
Right after making the change, I had the option to immediately connect to Apple and REGISTER, however, a connection could not be established or the computer was not responding, so I clicked on "Register Later" and quit.
Mail works fine, and so the DSL modem and router. I can access this forum, but Safari tries but can't to connect to other forums.
Do you think that by changing the User Account's name I may have screwed things up? I have tried MS's Explorer, but it too shows the same problems.
Any ideas on what to do at this point?

Steven: I know that the problems I had with Safari is not similar to yours, but I ended erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Tiger four times (I have posted the full story in a couple of Apple forums).
On the pre-final try i removed the router from the computer and only used the DSL modem. However, I decided to use Safari between Software updates, and again Safari stopped working, as well as Software Update. I had removed every USB and Firewire cable, set-up the network to stay active without interruptions, set the computer to stay awake forever, the screen to stay awake for over three hours, and the hard drive to stay awake.
Then on the final erasing/installing, I made sure that I didn't use Safari until every little update was finished all the way to a complete Mac OS 10.4.2. Once that was accomplished I used Safari, and I have been using it since.
A friend of mine is upgrading the router's firmware, just in case that was par t of the problem, but I don't think it was, since the router was out of the picture on the pre-final session.
I believe that for some reason OS 10.4 screwed the Network panel functions. If you just look at the settings they seem to be OK, but not really. The problem may be related to the G5 CPU and how Mac OS 10.4 works with it. While I was having a myriad of network problems, I could connect to the Internet, retrieve my mail, etc. using my son's Mini, as well as an old Mac 7300. Both of these worked just fine connected to the network (router and DSL). Only my iMac G5 would not work.

  • Does upgrade from Snow Lion to Mavericks solve the 'no bluetooth' problem?

    Hi.
I know I'm behind the times so please don't laugh.  I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and yes, my Bluetooth stopped working.  I've read all the forums and tried the various fixes that folk have suggested but still no BT.  What I'm wondering now is should I upgrade to Mavericks - does the upgrade to Mavericks solve the non-funtioning bluetooth issue?

tried the various fixes that folk have suggested
Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.
does the upgrade to Mavericks solve the non-funtioning bluetooth issue?
Why not ask in the OS X Mavericks forums?

  • CUCM Upgradation from 8.6 to 9.1

    Hi
when we upgrade cucm 8.6 to 9.1, can we use the same 9.1 iso file which we wre using for the full installation?
    Thanks in Advance....

    Hi Midhun,
You need to use an upgrade file, not the bootable file that you use for fresh installation. You can either request it through the PUT tool or you can download it from the following link

  • CUCM Upgrade from 9.1.2 to 10.5

    Hi all,
I have tested upgrading CUCM from 9.1.2 to 10.5 in my lab. As i read before, we need some cop files to upload to CUCM before upgrade procedure.
Cisco named this upgrade as <Refresh Upgrade> and during this process, RHEL version will also upgrade with CUCM version.
On my test, i dont upload any cop file before upgrade. Just uprade to 10.5 version.
Before upgrade my RHEL version was 5(32 bit) and after upgrade it is 6(64 bit).
After upgrade, everything seems ok but upgrade took lots of time, like 4 hours.
During upgrade there is no connection to CUCM and i saw blue screen :)
What is your opinion? Will this method work on customer enviroment?
Do you test this procedure before?
    Best Regards,
    Mesut

Dear Carlo & Chris, May I ask you to clarify on below comment which is mentioned in Release note of CUCM 10.5
I don't understand why Cisco has mentioned this, if its not required ? I would appreciate your any inputs.
    Preupgrade COP File
If you are upgrading to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 10.5(1), or later, from a release earlier than Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 10.0(1), you must download and install ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn on every node in the cluster. This Cisco Options Package (COP) file has the RSA keys that are required to validate the upgrade. Missing RSA-3 keys will result in status errors in the Software Installation/Upgrade window of the Cisco Unified Operating System Administration interface.

  • Cucm upgraded from 8.6 to 9.1 and now want to add uri dialing

    Environment:
    Upgraded 8.6.2 to 9.1
    AD Sync users and authentication
    Upgrade went well
I thought that with the upgrade the existing AD integration would bring over the Directory URI or give me the option to choose the Directory URI choices from the existing AD integration.  I went to the existing LDAP Directory integration and I can't choose to sync Directory URI with MSRTCP... or email.  I am forced to create a new LDAP directory so I can have the option to choose.  Fair enough I said... I will create another one pointing to the same AD.  I did that and then I was going to delete the old LDAP directory.  It gives me a warning that all users that were created with this LDAP integration will be deleted.  Yikes!!!
I'm stuck.  Should I sync the new LDAP directory with the URI (which is pointed to the same AD as the old one) then delete the old LDAP Directory?  Will my users stay intact?

I found a note in the documentation that expkained that MSRTCSIP... URI needs to be populated manualy or if the user was/is a Lync user it is populated automatically by Lync.  Easy fix was add all users as Lync users then delete users as Lync users and then the AD attribute stays populated.

  • Upgrading from 7.5 to version 8: CEM and CCS problem with the EDMT

    Hi All;
The current UCCE is 7.5 and some scripts and configuration for the CCS and CEM were already done, when I tried to upgrade for version 8 and I used the EDMT version 8 to upgrade the side_A database (logger Database), then an error message appeared which states that CCS and CEM is existed and it should be removed.
After checking, I discover that UCCE version 8 is no more supporting CCS or CEM scripts and configuration.
But, how I can resolve this problem as removing all the related configurations and all the related objects in the scripts and the scripts will be very hard and very complex ... what is the solution to overcome this problem?
I think there should be a proper method or solution from CISCO to resolve this problem.
Looking forward to hear from someone that can help me.

  • I recently upgraded from 10.5 til 10.6.8 and got problems..

now  I cant download pictures from my camera or from my Iphone anymore. It says "no camera found" . Tried to install the software from camera over again but it doesent help.
    Any suggestions whats wrong?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • CUCM upgrade 8.6 to 10.5 7500 user OVA

    Hello,
I'm planning a CUCM upgrade from version 8.6 to 10.5 (both virtualized)   This was deployed using the 7500 user OVA.   In 10.5, the HDD requirement has changed from 2x80 to 1x110.   According to the upgrade guide, I can resize my drives using disk expansion COP file.   My question is, what should the end result be of my drive changes?   Do I change both drives so I end up with 2x110 or do I only change one leaving me with 1x110 and 1x80?
I don't have enough CPU resources to create new VMs and migrate using PCD.
    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
My understanding is that the COP file is used to regain used space within the VM in the sense that you do not have enough space to proceed with the upgrade to 10.5.  The COP file essentially removes your inactive partition in order to gain that needed space.  As long as there is enough free space to complete the upgrade I wouldn't modify the drive structure of the VM in question.
    Hope this helps

  • Does an CUCM upgrade affect the device defaults?

    Hello
we intend to do an CUCM upgrade from 9.1(2) to 9.2(2)SU2a.
However, our phones have the firmware 9-4-2-1S, different from the original firmware (9-3-1-SR2-1)
After the CUCM upgrade, will the device defaults get back to its original firmware version (9-3-1-SR2-1) or the current version will be kept?
    Thank you
    Marcos

    Hi Marcos,
    Yes, When you upgrade to a newer version of CUCM the phones will upgrade/downgrade to the Firmware version listed in the readme doc for the CUCM upgrade version as I have linked below. So in your case the the CUCM readme for 9.1(2)su2 is shown here;
    http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074295/116350/cucmreadme912su2a.pdf
    In 9.1(2)su2 it looks like the Device defaults would be 9.3(1SR4.1) but it looks like the Device defaults in CUCM 9.1(2)su3 would be the same as what you are currently running so you would be good to go as they are 9.4(2.1) ;
    http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074295/122683/cucm-readme-912su3.pdf
You could also copy the current device defaults into something like notepad and re-enter them after the upgrade, but if it were me, I would go with the later CUCM version 9.1(2)su3.
    Cheers!

  • Problems after upgrade from SCVMM 2012 Sp1 to SCVMM 2012 R2

I did a in-place (uninstall VMM2012 Sp1, retain the database, and install VMM2012 R2 point to old database) upgrade. All the steps work fine.
The only problem (so far) is that when I create a new VM using a custom template (for example, Windows 2008 R2), the deploy fail with the following error:
    Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the vm-scvmm2012.domain.com server: NO_PARAM: NO_PARAM.

    Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server vm-scvmm2012.domain.com. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If vm-scvmm2012.domain.com is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure
that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.
    Information (26278)
VMM could not offload transfer the file \\vm-scvmm2012.domain.com\MSSCVMMLibrary\VHDs\Template_Windows_2008_R2_SP1.vhdx to C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\VM-NEWVM\Template_Windows_2008_R2_SP1.vhdx.
    Any ideas?

I have a similar problem when migrating VMs from Windows 2008 R2 (Non Clustered) Hyper-V to Windows 2012 Hyper Cluster. I had previously migrated about 100 VMs like this with no problem. It appears since upgrading from VMM SP1 Rollup 4 to Rollup 5 this problem
is happening. All Agents are up to date.
I can migrate VMs in the cluster no problem.
I removed the Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V host and added it back which allowed the job to at least start but when it gets to the final steps of importing the VM it fails with the same error and references the VMM server.
Others suggest this is a VMM Certificate problem and you can remove the Cluster node and add it back again but I can't do that in a production Cluster with hundreds of VMs. That is not an acceptable solution.
    How can we fix this?

  • How to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to mountain lion?

i recently got a macbook and it is quite an old one because its second hand, and it has software version 10.4.11 on it.
i've had troubles downloading things because no programs are built for such old software.
i think the only way to get past this is to upgrade to a newer software version, but i don't know what's best etc, i want mountain lion but i'm not sure wether i could go from such old software to a newer one!
it would be really helpful if someone could help me!

You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc....
And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/   I recently upgraded an older MacBook (model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
