Currency exchange and aggregation question

Hi,
My requirement is to calculate the sum falling into intervals like
1) <2 million
2) 5 - 10 million
3) 10-20 million and so on
This part is easy. The question is that the intervals can be requested in any currency by the user. Since there r thousands of records and each record has its amount in its own currency.....what is the best way to do it so that the BW performance is not affected?
any help would be highly appreciated.
thks,
wills

Hi,
You can do currency conversion in the update rules during the data load as well as during the execution of the report.
Currency conversion doesn't have much effect on the execution time of the report.
You can have many records but it will not effect the performance of the query in big way.
Thanks

  • Currency Coversion and Exchange Rate Issue

    Hi,
I have a scenario in query which is related to currency conversion and exchange rates.
Company Code     Matter Code      Invoice          Invoice date     Amount
                        Number          (DD/MM/YYYY)
    1001          1111          INV101          01/01/2011     $100
    1001          2222          INV202          05/01/2011     $150
    1001          3333          INV303          10/01/2011     $200
    1001          4444          INV404          15/01/2011     $250
Here , Amount field is in GBP currency by default.
User gives choice as USD on selection screen and the amount field is converted to USD in output.
Now, I wonder which day's exchange rate is applied for same ??
And what steps should I do if I want to apply a particular day's exchange rate ??
    i.e.
Consider that there are different exchange rates maintained on daily basis.
For each invoice number (INV101 , INV202.....) There is an invoice date (01/01/2011, 05/01/2011...).
The corasponding output amount should take that particular date's exchange rate for conversion of currency.
    How to achive same ??
I have gone through t-code RSCUR for same. Nothing helpful found.
I have even gone through some documents for currency conversion., but unable to find out such scenario.
    Please help me for same.

    Sachdev-
Currency translations are a very complex issue for BW developers. What you need to do is manage a currency translation that is based on the exact 0CALDAY of the transaction. Here are some helpful hints
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/dc43c445-0d01-0010-23a1-ca348ff5f975?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
The standard SAP business content includes some standard translations as shown in the article, like these:
0MEANTODAY Average rate using actual date (0SY-DATUM)
u2022 0MEANDAILY Average rate using 0CALDAY of the data record
u2022 0TRA_DATE Average rate using 0TRANS_DATE of the data record
u2022 0PSTNG_DAT Average rate using 0PSTNG_DATE of the data record
u2022 0DOC_DATE Average rate using 0DOC_DATE of the data record
However, you MUST have a translation available in the main SAP Currency translation table (Transaction oB08 ) for the period in question, and you MUST report in the appropriate date. If, for example, you wish to report in an aggregate by 0CALMONTH, for example, the currency translation will need to be associated with 0CALMONTH, and the exchange rate will not calculate on a day by day basis, but on the standard that you set for the month. So, to your users, the data will be 'wrong'.
A more robust method involves adding a value field to your data soiurce that uses the currency exchange rate in effect as of the day of the transaction. We do this in our data models, to with:
    Mexico Data source:
Each value field will be available in the document currency(whatever), the company code currency(MXP), and in the corporate currency (USD).
Good luck ! Most users don't understand the whole issue, and we spend a bit of time explaining it to them.

  • Order refund and currency exchange charges

    Hello!
I ordered a macbook on the US Apple Store Online and paid it with my european Visa card. Unfortunately I will not travel to the US and I would like to cancel the order. My question is: I paid the macbook 60€ (about 3% of the total amount) more than the normal currency exchange rate and I assume this is a commission for the currency exchange ($ to €), do you think I will got a full refund with that comission included? I called my bank and they told me it depends on the supplier. Someone already experienced something like that?
    Thank you!

  • Different currency exchange rate at time of sales order and invoicing

    Hi Friends,
Actually,we are facing a crucial problem in Export where we would like to have the current currency exchange rate to be applicable both at excise and commercial invoice.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi Ankur,
Thanks for your reply. But our problem is sales order, exchange rates are defined with M type in OB08 as u have said. However when the periods are different for order entry and invoice generation we are facing the following problem.Orders are at old exchange rates and excise invoice is getting generated at current exchange rate. This is resulting in value difference between commercial invoice and excise invoice.
    Please help.

    2. Can Currency conversion be done without defining the Currency Rules?

  • Changing Mileage "Currency Exchange" Rate in Expense

I've recently upgraded to Palm Desktop 4.1.4 which removed Expense from my programs... although I found it in the Palm Desktop program! (I use MS Outlook).
The old version would download to the Sample1 MS Excel sheet, which is my preference, if possible. I'm no Excel guru, so I can't figure that out.
Anyway, Palm Desktop Expense has the default for expense mileage at $1 per mile. I wish I got that! I have been unable to change that exchange rate to the .40 going rate. I've been all over the palmOne site looking for help.
    Thank you!
    Post relates to: Palm m515

I found the answer... and you're right, I don't think the techs read this forum.. mostly because having talked to them a couple of times on the phone, I'm not sure they can read english.
Besides, with the sale of palm now, I doubt the Palm really gives a too hoots about the users anyway...
    So, to answer the question:
In Palm Desktop 4.1, (yes, the last version from the most recent) you would select mileage in your palm and enter the data...
Then when sync'ing, in Expense, you'd click on the entry and then go to the bottom to the conversion icon (looks like 3 stacks of coins) next to the total...
Then you could click on "Adjust Currency Rates" and another pop-up would appear allowing you to adjust $1 = mi _____
Apparently this is broken in 4.1.4.
    Hooray Palm!
THIS is how you kept losing market share to WinBlowsCE.
Pat yourselves on the back for a job poorly done!!
    See ya guys,

  • Currency error and f-32

    hi
Hand user made vender payment with T.code f-32 . When he made entry, that time he used currency USD bcoz actually she passed vender invoice with currency USD. Now in current period, they are using currency USD4. i.e. after 31.05.2007 Which is not matching with vendor invoice. That u can see in screen shot in currency's row. Other all items are made with USD4 but only this particular entry is made in USD. Now main issue is...
They are getting error when they are going to clear vendor a/c bcoz the exchange rate is not matching with vendor's particular invoice... They are not able to nullify this entry…
how to i m clear payment
becasue sale orde currency different and payment currency different how to clear
this entry not show in f-32...pplease help me

I understood what you explained. That was a very good answer, however i have 1 more question.
    1. For Eg: I posted a customer invoice for Rs 100,000 and customer paid the whole amont. After doing fb70 can we do f-32 directly? Or we have to do f-28 first and then clear it in f-32.
My problem is, customers are set up on company code 1000, but this cocd does not have any house bank and hence no bank GL account.
We do the FB70 on company code 1000. However I need to clear this amount using a bank gl account of company code 2000. Company code 2000 is the main Cocd and has a house bank and bank GL account.
So im not able to select a CoCd 2000 bank gl account  as it doesnt exist while doing f-28 for company code 1000 who received the invoice and payment. But  im able to do this on f-32. When i click on OVERVIEW in f-32, then at the bottom there is a field for NEW Company Code.It uses cross company clearing.
Hence i want to know, if it is ok to do a f-32 directly after doing a FB70.
I hope my scenario is clear.
    Thanks.

    Also,when i have checked the conversion rates,they r fine.
Please find the Below diagnosis ,which they hv given.

  • Currency exchange rate

I, have a question regarding the Currency exchange rate.
We have a total of 20 -25 different local currency data records in R/3.
In BW reprot we need to convert all these local currency to CDN.
Can anyone suggest me how to do it and anylinks that would help me, please help me as i am new to BW.
    thanks
    SAM

You can set the translation directly in the query and BW calulates the conversion at runtime. Obvious you must specify the type of exchange rate, the date of reference, and so on...
In the BEx Analyzer, there are two possibilities for handling different currencies :
1 Definition of a currency translation per key figure in the query definition
2 Ad hoc currency translation in the Workbook (after having executed the query)
You can find here some info:

  • Currency Exchange rate maintenance

    Hi all FI Master,
My local currency is in GBP. I maintain foreign currency exchange rate like USD to GBP, SGD to GBP and so on. My question is do I need to maintain the exchange rate in the other way round (like GBP to USD)?
Secondly, if my vendor bill me is foreign currency USD, and I pay in foreign curr SGD, do I need to maintain the exchange rate from SGD to USD?
    Thank you.

    Hi Cire,
The Answer depends on your settings for the Exchange rate type
(SPRO > General Settings > Currencies > Check exchange rate types)
       1)    No if  Invert flag is set for the exchange rate type.
Yes if flag is not set.
       2)    No if you have specified GBP as the Ref.crcy.
Yes if no Ref.Crcy is specified.
    Kind regards

  • Business Rule Currency Conversion and Carry Forward

    Hello Guys,
I have a question related to the Business Rules Currency Conversion and Carry Forward
I configured the business rule "Currency Conversion" and I selected "Apply to Periodic". What this rules does with the flag selected  is to get the value of the previous month converted and add the factor (Local Currency previos month - Local Currency Actual month) * Exchange Rate of Current Month
For Example: USD previos month +
This rule applies perfectly from FEB to DEC but if I run it for January, it does not consider the value of USD previos month and LC previous month for calculations so the result I get is:
(and of course it´s because it only applies to periodic)
I need to include into my results this amounts and factor so the question is: Is not a flag I can activate to force the system to act as it does for FEB to DEC periodic ??
I also set up the Business Rule "Carry Forward" so with this rule Im able to bring values converted in USD from DEC to JAN for example from a Data Source Input, but the problem is that it erase any other value I have in other Data Source members and I need to keep that info.
Hope you can come with a suggestion.
Im working with SAP BPC NW 7.5 SP08

    Hello guys,
Yes, my fiscal year is from JAN to DEC and Im using a YTD app,
As you mentioned for P&L accounts the rule works fine; but we want to carry forward LEQ accounts. Is there a way to use or configure the currency conversion rule with the flag "Apply to Periodic" to carry forward LEQ accounts for the next following year?
Here is how we configured our Carry Forward Business Rule
Source and Destionation account = 4111
    Source and destionation Flow= FCLO
    Reverse Sign= False
    Data Source Type= ALL
    Same Period= False
    Apply to Periodic=False

  • Document Split for Currency Exchange while posting Incoming payment

    Hi Experts,
    Scenario:
    > Post incoming Customer payments using F-28
    > posting entered today (14 Jan 2009), but posting date is 30 Dec 2008)
    > Tested in Clients 001 and 005 (same setup in terms of GLs, Customers, Vendors, etc)
I was able to post the incoming payment in Client 005.  However, in Client 001, I got error message:
*Ex.rate diff.accts are incomplete for account 0000140000 (Trade Debtors/Customers) currency SGD
    Message no. F5063
    Diagnosis
The accounts for posting exchange rate differences could not be determined. For the specified G/L account and the specified currency key, the accounts are only specified incompletely. Either the accounts for the implemented exchange rate difference, the accounts for the valuation differences or the balance sheet adjustment account are missing.
    System Response
The system cannot generate the exchange rate difference posting.
    Procedure
By pressing ENTER, you achieve that the document is reset to a status without automatic posting. In another window, you can complete default settings for exchange rate differences and post the document afterwards.
    Proceed*
When I clicked Proceed, the system took me to OBA1, with "Document Split for Currency Exchange" option highlighted in blue.
Does this mean that I need to create a new GL account to post Document Split for Currency Exchange?
Note: Setup for OBA1 both 001 and 005 are the same. But I only encountered the error in 001.
    Hope someone can help me.

  • About foreign currency exchange difference when do MIRO

    Dear all,
There's a  purchase order with foreign currency, for the currency rate floated every month, if we do MIRO in the next month after we do GR, there's foreign currency exchange difference happened,
the problem is if the mat'l code with stand price control, in OBYC, I set the transaction KDM with account determination:exchange difference, then I do MIRO, it's ok, the currency exchange diff goes into the right account(exchange difference),
but if the mat'l code with price control V, when do MIRO, the currency exchange difference goes into the inventory account automatically, seems not determined by the setting of OBYC KDM,
    so what can I do,?
Appreciate your kind reply in advance.

    HiI
f you set this selection field then the settings in the ERD Setting column for this currency type are no longer relevant. The system calculates and posts exchange rate differences between order-related goods receipts and invoices not just for materials with standard price, but also for:
    Materials with moving average price
    Account-assigned transactions
    Planned delivery costs
The valuation of the inventories or consumption is effectively done at the exchange rate for the goods receipt, and not at the exchange rate of the invoice. When you post the good receipts, the fixed exchange rate from the purchase order is not used, but the translation of the purchase order values to local currency is always done at the posting date of the goods receipt.
If you are using the material ledger with actual costing, the system does not include the posted exchange rate differences at period-end closing in the actual prices of the materials.
    Regards
    Antony
