Curved/shaped frames

Many recent programs( such as the Iomege CD RW interface) involved with multimedia interfaces present a GUI with curved edges - is this possible in Java?

Yes have a look at LOOK AND FEELS. There are a number of pluginable look and feels that give some really good looks. You can basically do anything you want ( like real One Player) but its not easy. Plenty of search resukts under look and feel. Also check out:

Please help! i need to make multiple custom shaped frames for different videos in one scene and cant work out how!

hi there!
im really stuck on this and cant work it out i hope you guys can help! i have been trying to make a single shot or scene whatever you want to call it with multiple videos playing all at the same time in it but i want them all to have their own custom shape. i know that i can just put them together into one frame and play them at once but they are all the original rectangle shape they where filmed in and i could put a mask over each one to make it a circle but i want to make each one a custom shape for example if you where to make a face out of 4 videos and one was the shape of the main part of the face one was the eyes one for the hair and one for the mouth now i would have to make the shape of each video the right shape for the corresponding body part then place them on top of each other and then i would have a face made from looping videos. i cannot work out how to make the frames of each video a custom shape after searching tutorials please can someone help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as it is a collage project. thanks very much for your time in the matter Josh.

ok thanks yea thats helped alot im new to this so thats why it seems basic to you but not me. i have tryed to find out through tutorials but could work it out. im now able to do this but i want to draw my mask free hand and it seems you can only place points with the pen tool? is this the only way to make the shape of my mask? or example in photoshop which i know well i can use a paint brush and paint any shape i want to make a mask but i cant see how to do that in after effects? any help on this would be greatly appreceated. thanks josh

How to create a tv-shaped frame in Photoshop?

I'm trying to create a frame for a photo that has the shape of an old-style TV screen: square, with rounded corners, all four sides bulging out slightly. I've figured out how to create a rectangle with rounded corners, but I can't figure out the bulges. (My PS vector and pen skills are very poor.) A rough sample is below. Is there a way to do this in Photoshop? Or, is there a template available?

I would say use the pen tool to add a point at the center of each side. Select all 4 points then scale outward. If necessary you can use the convert point tool to drag out on each point to smooth the bend. Using the convert point tool, will move both sides of the point to once, other wise, you would be using the direct selection tool which can drag only one handle at a time, which may make the point not symmetrical as far as the handles are concerned. Having both handles out at the same distance, may make a better smoothing for that point.
But you may also be satisfied with how it looks with out dealing with the handles at all. It is all subject to the eye of the beholder.

STRAIGHT, non-curving, audio frames

If you put two audio keyframes a few seconds apart in a track, and you pull
the second one down to nothing, the line sort of curves down, instead of
going STRAIGHT down as in some other editing systems.
Is there a way to make it not "curve", without having to add more keyframes
in the curve downward?

Indeed... I've often wondered the same thing and I'm glad to see the replies... Especially the SINGLE keyframe idea.
As an audio editor, I NEED at least 4 variable crossfades to be effective /\, (\, (), /) where the ) is the 'logrithmic' fade.
Not sure if that's the right term, as dB are supposed to be logrithmic anyway - so isn't a straight line crossing dB already logrithmic????? OOooh - got meself confused again!
But - FCP isn't an audio editor for sure.

In Swing, you can create a non-square component if this component extends JComponent. Thus, you can not create a non-square JFrame, JApplet, JDialog and JWindow.
you never create a non-square component but in Robinson Tutorial, it can help you.
I have not his URL, but it is easy searching by google or altavista.

Rectangle frames are missing the frame inside

Hello everyone
I was making a design comp for a website and the Rectangle Frame Tool suddenly stopped displaying the X-shaped frame inside the bounding boxes as shown in the capture below:
I first thought the disappearance of the inside frame may be due to the undefined solid colour, but then setting the solid car would not bring back the frame.
Please someone help me restore the frame.

also, this fragment size must be set on both sides of the link, the same size, even if the hub has a greater link speed than the spoke.

Mario,
You need to base the fragment size on the lowest speed link between the 2 routers. If the lowest speed link is 512k, the recommended fragment size is 640 bytes.This is to achieve a 10ms serialization delay. The formula to compute this is Max Delay X Bandwidth. Please see Table 5 in the following link for recommended fragment sizes for 10ms serialization delay for different speed links.

Frame-relay fragment command missing

Does anyone know why the frame-relay fragment command is not available on 3600 and 2600 routers running 12.2(5d) IOS? I have not been able to find a definite answer.

Putting images into frames

I'm making diamnond shaped frames to put images in and I need some help. I'm making a square and rotating it but the image rotates as well. How do I do this? I have indesign CS5. Thanks!

No preview or scopes information in Apple Color

This is the second time I've had this issue in around 3 months. I had initially solved the issue but had to do a full clean install of OSX and also my Final Cut Studio package. It's occured again for no apparent reason and to be honest I don't want to waste another few days doing a clean install of both my operating system and editing package again.
The issue is, my project in FCP 7 is ready for grading and when I click 'Send To > Apple Color', it brings the project over into Color and every clip can be scrubbed through on the timeline. However there are no previews showing up of the clips in the preview window, as well as no colour information/data showing up in the scopes. It's as if there is not video within my project even though there is a good 9 or 10 minutes of footage that needs to be graded!
I want to sort this problem as soon as possible due to this being a project that is of utmost value!

Ladies and gents I'd just like to let you know I've solved this issue! It was a bit of a eureka moment but it seemed to do the trick. I'll explain below.
Basically I have a short section of the film that was shot on Super 8mm film. The Telecine I had meant the footage came back as a perfect 4:3 square, but I wanted a more traditional smooth/feathered/curved/rounded frame over the footage, so I'd created a PNG file with a black border and transparent centre to overlay on top.
For no apparent reason I decided to delete this image file and try sending the project to Color. Low and behold it's worked no problem and I can now finally see my video in the video preview section, as well as the colour data and information in the scopes.

Here's a quick example I threw together that generates a sort-of-bell-curve shaped data distribution, then performs the binning and plotting.

Mac Mini display settings change after shutdown

After a shutdown, my Mac Mini's display settings will change on startup. This happens about 80% to 90% of the time.
Sometimes it may be due to playing a video game (Diablo 3) where the resolution in the game is slightly lower. The Mac Mini is set to 1080p, but in-game it is 1600x900. After playing a game, maybe half the time, when I go back to my desktop, the display looks different. However, even other times even when I wasn't playing a game, after a shutdown, the display settings will change.
The strange thing is that it isn't a change in resolution. The resolution stays the same. It is always 1080p after every shutdown. But something in the display changes. Curved shaped look more pixelized, like some kind of smoothing or antialiasing has been turned off. And bright things are too bright, dark things too dark, so images lose some detail. It is also a bit painful on the eyes. Everything looks less vivid and very dull.
Someone in an older post suggested changing refresh rates. Unfortunately, my Mac Mini doesn't show that option. It was also suggested to connect to a different monitor to possibly make the options appear. But I don't have another monitor.
My current solution is to reset NVRAM (command+option+P+R) on startup. It seems to reset the display settings and fixes the display problem 100% of the time. But the thing is, I have to now keep doing this almost everytime I start up my Mac, which is annoying.
Is there a way to ensure that the Mac Mini keeps my display settings and prevent it from losing them on startup? Or perhaps, a way to reset display settings from within the OS without having to shutdown again and reset NVRAM?

without the external monitor and after setting the display, will the setting remain ?
have you tried uninstalling the graphic driver from your unit and then testing it with generic driver ?

Deploying QPM policies through CLI

Hello,
We are using QPM v4.1 Combined (provisioning + monitoring) and using the IP Telephony wizard to create Voice policies on the network.
Deploying polices directly from QPM showed up that some deployment jobs fail for reasons such as "QPM internal error" and cause unexpected behaviors with half a QOS configuration deployed. For this reason, we prefer now deploying the created policies from the CLI. According to the user guide, we then only have to rediscover the device to be able to monitor it with real-time and historical QOS monitoring.
We are faced with the following problem : frame-relay subinterfaces configured with standard QPM policies are no longer visible when trying to create the monitoring task. This however was possible for the same policy when it was successfully deployed from QPM.
Am I missing a step ? Should I import policies from the device to QPM in order for him to recognize them ?

Sorry for passing this bad news unfortunately there is no such feature in ACS. The CLI for ACS is linux based interface. ACS is java based application which is running on top of it. It is using some SQL anywhere database to store the config.
This is not supported and not documented anywhere and strongly not recommended.
So from technical point of view, as CLI and ACS are not much related there is no such a
possibility.
