Custom acl and permissions

I would like to create a custom ACL that will provide additional permissions to grant/revoke on ACLs.
For example, I would like to add a permission PROCESS that would allow users to trigger a particular process using that document. Obviously I would need to check that ACL in code before allowing the operation, but I would like to use a unfied security policy in the app.
As far as I can figure out, I would need to create a custom version of ACCESSCONTROLLIST, but I cannot figure out how to add additional permissions. Any ideas? Thanks.

i don't know if this still applies, but it should.

  • EJB ACLs and permissions, help needed urgently

    Hello,
    I am using WL6.1. I need to use weblogic.security.acl.Security.checkPermission
to check if a user has permission to acess an EJB method. I know one can call
the method and check the exception to see yes or no. But that requires knowing
the method signature (parameters and return types etc.).
I read the documentation and here is what I got:
ACLs and permissions for WebLogic EJBs differ from ACLs and permissions for other
kinds of WebLogic Server resources in the following ways:
    1. EJB ACLs are configured in the access control properties of the EJB's deployment
    descriptor.
    2. Permissions are granted on individual methods of a bean; there are no predefined
    permissions.
    3. Permissions on EJBs are granted to Roles, which map to groups in WebLogic Server.
So if I read it correctly:
    1. One does not need to use WL console to configure EJB ACLs? If otherwise, how
do we do it?. There is no documentation for it.
    2. What is the ACLName to use when I call the method weblogic.security.acl.Security.checkPermission(java.security.Principal
    principal, java.lang.String aclName,
    java.security.acl.Permission permission,
    char sep)?
I tried with JNDI name and EJB name and nothing seems to work.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks.

It all depends on where do you want to keep your ACLs and the rest of security.
Simplest will be fileRealm, but it has limited capability (10k ACLs I recall).
You do not heed console to set it up. Here is an excert from ACL file:
    acl.read.OT_INTEGRATIONOBJREF=everyone
    acl.read.OT_ORGTRANSPORT=OrgAdmin,AppAdmin
    acl.read.OT_ORGUNITOFMEASURE=OrgAdmin,AppAdmin
    # from nonWorkflowEvents.template
    acl.execute.ET_QUERY=everyone
    acl.execute.ET_BATCH=everyone
read/execute is action. Caps keep resource (name). On the right hand is a list
of roles. The security call will be lokking like:
    boolean result = Security.hasPermission("ET_BATCH",
    new PermissionImpl("read"), '.');
It does not throw, just returns a boolean.
Now, this is all about programmatic security. If you are up to declarative, you
need to assign role names to method names in deployment descriptor of your bean
and map them to actual roles.
Also you may have problems while asking security question about another principal
(nto the one currently logged in). Not that it does not work -- just needs caution.
    Hope it helps.

  • I am have a problem with ACLs and permissions

How come my Public folder that is shared and has some shared folders has certain users and groups with permissions, like (ACLs) workgroup, _spotlight, (POSIX) system, wheel, everyone, but when they are on a client machine, they say (POSIX) <username>, staff, everyone.
Basically I don't get why they don't carryover to the Client side. Is feature? or something that has to be enabled? that I am missing...? Any help would be great full.

  • ACL and Discover Permissions

Can someone give me some advice regarding the removal of Discover permissions - it doesn't seem to work as I would expect it to.
My requirement is quite simple. Out of the box I am attempting to enable a folder only to be seen/accesible by a one set of users and not be visible by all others. In order to do this I have done the following:
Created a group containing the users to are to see the folder('Secure Users').
Created a ACL that has 'Secure Users' at the bottom of the list (grant all) and above it 'World' (revoke all).
Applied ACL to the appropriate folder.
However when I log in (thru WEBUI) using 'normal' user (not in Secure Users group) I can still see the folder. When I click on it I get the following error:
'java.lang.Exception: The Folder you specified does not exist'.
I was under the impression that the 'ALL' permission bundle contained 'Discover' permissions. I actually want to make this folder invisible to all users that are not in the Secure Users group. Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Chris

Essentially Posix permssions are old and limited to three people: an owner, a group, and "everyone else". For each of these you have the option to set combinations of "read", "write", or "execute". Ultimately this is very limited, and ACLs expand on this with a vast array of possibilities (too many to list here). One example, though, is that ACLs would allow you to create only files within a specific directory and not create folders, whereas Posix permissions do not allow for this specification. You can also set these for multiple groups and multiple owners with ACLs, and also have numerous inheritance options for directory trees so files and folders within hierarchies get specific permissions properties when they are created.

  • Two 'everyone' accounts in sharing and permissions, privilege is set to custom, saving files not possible! Help Please!

    Hi!
I have an issue where many files have multiple users named 'everyone' in the get info dialogue box.
The first listed 'everyone' has custom access instead of read and write access.
This means that I can not save files without individually selecting them and changing this permission flag.
I have tried selecting folders and applying to enclosed items, I have turned off file sharing for the drive (it is a second hard drive installed via an optibay equivilent) and am getting frustrated having to unlock each indiviual file.
As you can see, there is a second everyone account.
This account does not appear on folders, so I can't apply changes to a group of files. If I select a group of files with the issue all sharing and permissions options are greyed out and can't be changed.
Is anyone else suffering from this, it is a new issue since upgrading to lion.
    Thanks!

    Hey stool,
Yeh so I took my Mac to the guy from the authorized repair shop thingo, and the guy was like helpfulness = 0
He had no idea what it was and offered to take it in for 24hours. I tole him no since I need my laptop for school work! So he said well we we could do a fresh install which in my case did NOT work!
So I'm still stuck with the same problem, 4 hours wasted for the fresh install and a repairman who has no idea what to do!
    Oh well!
I'm going to go back to googling!

Hello everyone, i have a Netgear Stora NAS on my MAC, its located in the finder under shared, when i click on it i sign in with my user account and it gives me my folders to my stora, on one of my folder (Movies), i clicked get info and under sharing and permissions it told me i had custom access, i changed the privelages of the name,"Everyone" from no access, to read and write, when i did this, the name on tope of this (the main username) vanished. so ive been searhing on how to get my privelages back, i went to + and added new GROUP "admins" and it gave me my main username back but now with read only acess, when i try to change it to read and write it dissapears, PLEASE HELPPPPP, thank you!!!!

I am not sure why you get that error. One thing you can do is a SMC reset then try to format it again. However that being said I'm not fan of WD external HD's primarily because we see a lot of troubles with them on Macs. Their internal HD's are fine so that narrows it down to their enclosures. If the problem persists I'd return the drive and buy one of the following:
OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro series
    Lacie Quadra d2 series
    G-Tech G series
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • ACL group permissions not propagating

I have a group of designers that are connected to X Server running Snow Leopard.
I have placed them in a group, "MarComm"
I have granted everyone full read/write access. ( I can trust them all)
I have tried to propagate these permissions..I saved the changes and restarted server.
For some reason there are 2 sets of permissions.
    1) full access (desired configuration)
    2) "custom" access
This "custom" access does erratic things..for ex:
Allows the designer to pull off a job folder containing 12 items. He has permission to use 8 items, but not the remaining 4.
Perhaps I need a step by step tutorial on how to create a proper "group" and to propagate permissions. I understand that the ACL should take precedence over the POSIX. I am not well-versed in using the terminal, but I am a careful person, and willing to try it.
    Thank you in advance

Setting up groups in WGM is pretty fool proof.  What I would try first is to remove all of the ACL's for the folder in question first.
Ensure that all of the files and folders within your folder have ACL's that can be removed.  If not, then you'll have to clear the ACL's on each, one at a time.
The command to clear the ACL's from a folder and it's subfile and folders looks like this:
    sudo chmod -R -N /path/to/folder
If you want to just remove an ACL from one file or folder, remove the -R from the command.
To write an ACL and have it apply to all folders within looks like this: (two commands, one to add read and one to add write permissions)
sudo chmod -R +a "groupname allow read" /path/to/file/
sudo chmod -R +a "groupname allow write" /path/to/file/
    HTH!

  • ACL and posix conflict? Can't get folder access to work properly

We have a folder on our website that all employees need to be able to write to, but they do not need to be able to create folders or delete anything. There is a second group with full permissions to the folder.
    ACLs:
    Upload Full Access - R&W
Company Access - Custom (full read, write does not include: create folder, delete, delete subfolders and files)
    POSIX:
    O: _www : R
    G: Company Access : R
    E: None
The full access group is easy and works perfectly.
The limited group is a pain and the permissions don't work 100% the way needed.
With that setup, they cannot create new files at all.
If I set G: R&W, then they have free reign as the ACL is being ignored.
If I set G: R, then they have no write abilities as the ACL is being ignored.
With either group setting if I grant "create folder" permission in the custom ACL, then users can create folders and they have full create/delete permissions within the new folders, but this is what I need to prevent not allow.
I've never had problem setting up a share with strange ACL access permissions before. Does this directory hate me? I'd like to do this without having to create another user group.
    Suggestions?

    Hi,
Yes, the GUI of ServerAdmin won't add the <Directory> config sections to the apache config file. Read about that <Directory> config section, look at /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and /etc/apache2/sites/0000SOMETHING.
The good news is once you put the <Directory> config sections in there, it will stay there.
In someways the GUI of ServerAdmin is bad, in that it is just adding text lines to your apache config file, and it doesn't alway know what to add, whereas if one must do one's own typing in the config file, then one is aware of what is in there, what it is doing.
I ran into a similar issue. But do read the config files, and the apache.org documentation. It is good documentation, and the config files are pretty clear to follow.

  • ACL and performance

    Hi,
    I have CSS 11503 without SSL module (CSS11503-AC J0)
    I have to know something:
Customer needs to prevent servers behind LB (means service). In able to do this they want to limit connection to VIP.
As summary they want that only some IP:Port pair can reach to VIP.
To do this I think I have to use ACL and 1 ACL has 20-25 clauses. And maybe I have to add some new ACL.
    So the question is:
This ACL how affect the performance of CSS ?
How many degrees degrade performance percentage briefly?

ACL with only permit|deny clauses are all performed in hardware and therefore the impact on the performance is null or almost null.
If you have ACL to allow some source nating or select of a prefered gateway or service, these are done in software and will have an impact that I can't unfortunately quantified since this is really dependent on the config and traffic.
    Gilles.

  • Issues with Adobe CS and Permissions in Snow Leopard

    Me: Model: iMac7,1, BootROM IM71.007A.B03, 2 processors, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 3 GB, SMC 1.21f4
Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (I know time to upgrade)
Also related to this I'm using Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Indesign 7)
So it started a couple of days ago when I noticed my external HD was locked on my home computer...Firefox can't update and then Photoshop tells me it can't save preferences and InDesign tells me it can't open (unexpectedly quits when opening). Uh oh.
I've used Adobe Cleaner to try and solve the issue along with multiple uninstalls/installs of Adobe Creative Suite. And so I've narrowed this down to a permissions issue (I believe it happened when I was trying to share my external HD to our Boxee).
I downloaded Batchmod to see if that would work and i managed to unlock the external HD but no luck yet for Adobe CS. I tried unlocking all the preferences in user/library/preferences and that worked (still locked but not grayed out) but user/applications and manged is still grayed out with custom access. And I'm sure there's other folders hiding that need to be unlocked.
Is there a blanket command for terminal to unlock everything? I know using * in Terminal could work but where do I start?

  • Why Can't VZ do the Right Thing For Once and Permit Network Extender Owners to Close their Networks?

Given the fact that the Network Extender can be set for managed access or open access, clearly it can technologically be configured so that a closed network could be set up so that ONLY those users that are included in the "priority list" could access the Network Extender.
If I had to guess, Verizon, prefers to benefit from your internet connection and your investment in a network extender by bolstering their network in poor reception areas for all of their customers in the vicinity on us Network Extender owners' backs rather than to do the right thing and permit a customer who has paid for the device as well as their internet access to close the network.
I find this sleazy and hope VZW will rethink its approach to this.  We who subscribe to VZW for our cellular service pay the highest rates, on average, in the country for cell service.  We have also paid hundreds of dollars for the Network Extender, and pay for the internet that is used to facilitate the phone calls made through the network extender.
Once it a while it would be nice if VZW did the right thing for its customers and not blatantly, at least, put their corporate greed about the needs of their customers.

I called Verizon tech support, and was informed that there is an option to close the Network Extender. This would allow only numbers on the white list to connect to the extender. Is the information I received incorrect? I spoke to them just the other day. Have you tried to configure the extender recently?
My post asking for clarification is here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1002928#1002928
Thanks for any information you can provide.

  • XSAN, ACLs and new OD users.

I have xSAN FS with enabled ACLs and OD.
If i create ACL for existing folders and assign groupe(A) permissions to it. Rules work perfect. But only for usesr in this group (A) which was added before ACL was assigned.
If i create new OD user and add it into group A after ACLs was configured. User have no group permisions to this folder.
    Anybody meet this issue?

So do you want to have this new server running alongside the old one - or set up the new server for a subset of users and then decommission the SL server? If alongside, is it for redundancy or to provide a sperate set of services for a subset of users?
If alongside for redundancy, thne it makse sense to let it use the existing OD.
If it's for one of the other purposes, you'll need to:
    1. Set the new server up in islation from the old one (this allows you to create a new OD master)
    2. Configure services
    3. If you need to copy/move user data from the SL server, you'll have to take services on the SL server offline for the time it takes to copy/move.

  • %HA_EM-3-LOG: NAC-RADIUS-FAIL-OPEN-DEAD: All RADIUS servers are dead changing the nac-enforcement ACL to permit all

We just implemented ISE 802.1x in couple of our  Cisco 4507 switches  and we are seeing the following error in the log.
%HA_EM-3-LOG: NAC-RADIUS-FAIL-OPEN-DEAD: All RADIUS servers are dead changing the nac-enforcement ACL to permit all
I paste it in the Cisco error message decoder and came back with not found.
    Thanks...

    Jimmy,
Srory for the late reply but it turned out to be we needed to add the missing auth data vlan command on the switch. After that the error went away.
Thanks for you input I do appreciate it.
    Jack.

  • Named ACL and ACE numbering

I created a new extended named ACL and enter a few ACEs numbered 10,20,30,100,110,1000 to give them plenty of space apart. When I reload the switch, the numbering has disappeared and they are all spaced 10 apart. Why does this happen and is there a way to maintain larger spaces? I am thinking that in time I may come to make many modifications to the ACL and the gap between two entries may reduce to nothing. I am not going to reload my switch just to reset the gaps and I would rather not remove the ACL completely and replace it to achieve the same.
    thanks for any advice
    Chris

The ACL is stored in RAM initially. When you display your access-list for instance you see the seqeunce numbers. When you display your're running configuration you don't see them.
Are you using ip access-list or the traditional access-list?
    ip access-list extended Popey
10 permit ip host 10.10.10.10 any
    100 permit ip 10.10.20.0 0.0.0.255 any
