Custom fonts on iOS app using AIR 3.9

we are building an app for iOS using AIR 3.9 where we have to display the text using different fonts which are not available on iOS 5 or later. To fix this issue we have found a solution using XCode via ANE where by using "CTFontManagerRegisterGraphicsFont" class we can download the font from a location and register it on the device(working on mac using simulator ).  But when we are packaging the ANE with AIR 3.9, it gives us the error which says that:-
Error occurred while packaging the application:
Undefined symbols for architecture armv7:
  "_CTFontManagerRegisterGraphicsFont", referenced from:
      ___setPath_block_invoke in libnet.example.download.a(IOSFontLib.o)
ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture armv7
Compilation failed while executing : ld64
can anyone suggest where we are going wrong!
thanks in advance

According to this post, using CTFontManagerRegisterGraphicsFont should still work on iOS too:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4942449/ios-programmatically-add-custom-font-during-run time
since it requires the CoreText framework have you included the following option in your <linkerOptions> set in platform.xml?
<option>-framework CoreText</option>

  • Can no longer return to iOS app in AIR 4.0 Beta

    Is it me or is it no longer possible to return to an iOS app in AIR 4.0 beta? An app I just compiled restarts every time you launch it. No such problem in AIR 3.9.

    Just yesterday I saw a problem where going to the home screen and back would either crash the app or would leave it in a frozen state. It only happened if by that time I had been via a part of the app that played an animation that used stream audio.
    Might you be seeing the same kind of thing, where you can go in and out of your first screen, but get crashes or hangs when going from another screen?
    I didn’t log a bug yet because it’s a hard problem to narrow down, because the crashing happens when you return to the app, and so doing a debug session won’t help, the session closes when you go to the home screen.

  • Anyone profiled iOS app using FlashBuilder?

    We're making an iOS app using Flash Professional. I also use Flash builder for my editing.
    the application also unfortunately uses AIR-specific features, such as SQLite database and NativeApplication references.
    I've had luck before using the profiler by just profiling as a web application (which is what gets created when I do "create new Flash Professional Project..." in FlashBuilder.
    But I am stuck on how to get FlashBuilder profiler working on this project because it always wants to launch the thing in a web browser, which can't function due to the AIR-only features.
    Anyone ever gotten this combination to work?  I *so* wish I could just start from an MXML wrapper and load my FLA as a swf, but silly iOS restrictions force me to have just one SWF with all my code in it.
    thanks!

    I'm building an iOS app using as3 and air to package the app onto my iPhone 6. My issue is that I get a black bar above and below the app, the app itself is not going fullscreen. The stage screen is set to the iPhone 6 screen dimensions.
    I have tried by adding the following launch images into the app folder; [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] But it's not being displayed properly.
    Does anyone have any fixes for this?

    Thanks for the reply.
    yes.I've created a static library with 3rd party frameworks and pulled the .a from product folder(Debug-iphoneos).
    and the framework didn't work(armv7 not supported error occurs ..don't know why) with it's original folder structure .
    so I followed below link to change folders inside the 3rd party framework and figured out but now  the application crashes on startup without giving an error message. .

  • Building a desktop app - use AIR or not?

    Hello, I'm guessing that the keyword "desktop" would make you recommend I use Adobe AIR if I'm building with Flex.  Basically, we're building a desktop application that will occasionally sync with the server where a separate but related application resides.  Most of the time, the desktop app needs to be able to function with or without network connectivity.
    So far, we have begun by playing with Flex and running it in a browser on a local machine.  We could simply use XML files for local storage instead of a database, and it seems like we can get a fair amount of functionality implemented this way.  However, I'm wondering if we should definitely be using AIR instead.
    I'm coming with a server-side Java background, so I'm also trying to figure out how people write the business layer in this world (the business logic tier in between the presentation and data/service layers).  A lot of places I'm finding online keeping talking about Flex being for presentation only, but with an Adobe AIR app, do people often write business objects that sit between the GUI components and the database?  In some of the AIR programming guides, I'm not seeing any mention of that.
    I'm trying to make a case for AIR, so I need a little bit of help from you...
    Thanks!

    I'm coming with a server-side Java background, so I'm also trying to
    figure out how people write the business layer in this world (the
    business logic tier in between the presentation and data/service
    layers).  A lot of places I'm finding online keeping talking about Flex
    being for presentation only, but with an Adobe AIR app, do people often
    write business objects that sit between the GUI components and the
    database?  In some of the AIR programming guides, I'm not seeing any
    mention of that.
    I'd like to add a "me too" to this.  I haven't done a lot of research into AIR yet and it's not immidiately obvious what's involved with getting offline functionality.  I think I basically have the same question as the OP; do I end up (re)writing a bunch of business logic in the Flex client (I don't want to).
    I'm still using Java EE on the server for a (business logic) data access layer.  Specifically, I'm using a DTO inheritance strategy and setting up to auto-generate (mirror) .as DTOs with (Maven) flexmojos (I think flexmojos uses GraniteDS, but I use BlazeDS - the code generation tool shouldn't matter AFAIK).  So far, I'm quite happy with how the whole setup works.  However, I'd love to hear what kind of Java + Flex + AIR development strategies others have been finding successful since a significant portion of the online resources and documentation I've found tend to be somewhat trivialized.
    I hope I'm not hi-jacking the OPs question here (if so, I apologize), but what I'd like to know is if AIR is capable of any 'for free' type offline capabilities (like the way BlazeDS and LCDS 'just work').

  • Importing custom fonts into iPhone apps - HELP?!

    Hey guys, new to these forums. Just wondering if somebody could answer a few questions regarding successfully importing and using custom fonts into iPhone applications. As shown here,
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=569311
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1447085
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/360751/can-i-embed-a-custom-font-in-an-iphone -application
    some have shown success in doing just that. To those who have done it, what i wanted to simply ask is:
    What type of subclass did you put the code in? Mines is a UIView subclass but doesnt work.
    What kind of interface and with what controls are you using? I am simply making a UIView with the code in order to test to see if it works and test other properties and customizable functions of the custom fonts. It doesnt work.
    What specific property declarations must be in the .h file? I have none and it doesnt work.
    Note that when I say it doesnt work, it actually compiles without errors, but when I build and go I just get a blank grey screen.
    What say you?

    To use Stanza you need Stanza's desktop client in order to get your books onto the iPhone. If you have an account with eReader.com, you can upload personal content to your bookshelf and transfer them to eReader on your iPhone in the same way you do books purchased from eReader's website. Keep in mind that neither will work with MobiPocket books that are DRM protected. Stanza will work with non-DRM formatted books (including Mobi's format), but nothing which has DRM protection. I have both and use Stanza for anything without DRM protection, and eReader for books Palm formatted books with DRM protection.

  • Create iOS app using edge animate and DPS

    I was investigating the potential for using edge animate compositions and digital publishing suite to create single edition iOS apps.
    After some trial and error I have been able to create a basic iOS app for kids, using EA and DPS. The app was approved and placed in the app store.  See the below link:
    https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=786031451&mt=8
    For future reference do you have specific documentation/guidelines on using EA compositions to create DPS single edition apps?  I was hoping to get a better understanding of the potential for using html5 compositions in iOS apps (and limitations).

    Hi, Andrew-
    What specifically are you looking for?  It's unclear if you're looking for best practices or other documentation.  Thanks,

  • Are we allowed to embed fonts in IOS apps?

    I am curious as to what is allowed with regards embedding fonts in an app for iPhone/iPad.
    I wonder if it is the same as creating a web based movie and that you are allowed to embed whatever font you like assuming you have acquired the font legally. Or are there other rules relating to embedding fonts in an app? Obviously I want to keep on the right side of the law and also to ensure my app is not rejected.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Apple has discourged the practice in the past. There are many definitions of ads, so you'd need to contact Apple directly and/or submit a book to see what the current interpretation is.

  • Error creating files. Compilation failed... when publishing iOS app with AIR 3.1 and Flash 11.5.1

    Hello, I'm running Windows 7. I'm using Flash 11.5.1 (that's CS5.5 updated once) and AIR 3.1 to make an iPhone app.
    I can export the app perfectly fine with either Ctrl+Enter or F12.
    I added all the required things with AIR for iOS settings, such as a p12 certificate and icon files.
    I then hit publish. After I hit publish, I got this error:
    Error creating files.
    Compilation failed...
    I tried dragging the window to see if there was anything hidden behind the elipses. What can I do to fix this problem?

    note sure if I'm much help other than to CONFIRM it is working for me by using the sdk WITHOUT the compiler. Check out adobe's little note: "Note : Flex users will need to download the original AIR SDK without the new compiler."
    I am using FB 4.7 with AIR 3.6 and seems to compile correctly for iOS.
    Maybe try reinstalling flash builder?
    I honestly don't know if the JRE has anything to do with it... I'm using 1.7 ....to see what JRE you're using, open the Java Control Panel (I right click my java orange icon and hit properties), select the Java tab, then hit "View..."

  • Can I create an iOS app using proscenium or any Stage 3D library ?

    I use Alternativa 3D, I change the render mode to "Direct" and add the line <depthAndStencil>true</depthAndStencil> in the definition app XML file
    debugging get:
    #3702: Context3D not available
    I am using Flash Professional CS6
    What is wrong?

    I do not have Flash CS6 (too many bug reports) but I use it perfectly fine in CS5.5.
    What your error means is basically the libraries are not the latest and what it's trying to export to is a lower version than is supported. It runs on Desktop because you've updated your desktops AIR to 3.2 and have flash player 11.0 or better. For AIR for iOS, you need to make absolutely sure it is packaging with AIR 3.2 or higher. Flash CS6 might be targeting something below AIR 3.2.
    Here are instructions for overlaying the latest version of AIR on Flash. This should give you an idea of what to check in your version of Flash. Go through the list item by item and check the files in the locations that are mentioned and make sure the versions are at least the same.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/overlay-air-sdk-flash-professional.html
    If you jump ahead to step 4 you should be seeing in those files a version="15". You should also see in step 6 that the namespace AIR is pointing to is at least 3.2. If either are lower you may need to update your version of AIR, and there are the instructions to do so. Although the AIR folder will probably not be named AIR2.6 of course. But the instructions should be similar.

  • UI Freeze While Using ANE on iPAD using AIR 3.7 for mobile

    Hi
    am building an iOS app using AIR 3.7 with flex 4.6 builder. We have created our own ANE which will download all the contents of a zip folder ( originally placed on a seperate location using http request ) on ..library/cache directory of the iPAD device.
    We have no issues using the ANE but the problem occurs when downloading process is Going-ON at the back-end , the UI of the app freezes until we got "DownloadComplete", an Event Dispatched after downloading process is complete, response from the ANE.
    I have also read about worker class for multi-threading but i guess it is still not supported for iOS even in AIR 3.9 beta.
    Can anyone suggest a possible way, how can i make my ANE work along with the UI changes.
    I have a release date near this end of the month so please guys help me out !

  • Open local PDF inside Air iOS app

    I am developing an AIR for iOS app for the iPad. My client would like the app to open a local PDF file within the app, rather than launching an external app (such as Adobe Reader). This is to give a seamless experience when using the app. I've seen that distriqt.com produce the 'PDF Reader' Native Extension based on www.vfr.org. VFR appears to have a series of interface controls that open along with the PDF, which I don't require. I emailed Distriqt a week ago to clarify, and have had no response.
    Does anyone know of any other solutions to open a PDF inside an AIR iOS app?

    I've managed to load a PDF successfully inside my AIR iOS app, using the code from http://thatsthaway.wordpress.com/201...1/#comment-102.
    However, I've just come across a weird feature / bug when viewing a PDF using stagewebview. I have a PDF that contains several internal hyperlinks, each navigating to a page within the same PDF document. If I select any of the hyperlinks, they do jump to the intended pages. However, if I reselect the same hyperlink again, it no longer works. If I select a different hyperlink, and then reselect a previous link, it will then work, but if I select the same hyperlink twice in a row, without selecting a different hyperlink in between, the link fails to work. The PDF hyperlinks all work ok outside of my app, on both Windows desktop and an iPad, just not inside of the AIR app.
    Any ideas?

  • IPhone OS Use custom font

    Hi Everyone.
    I´m new here and I´ve sent lots of mail to the iPhone OS Team but with no success so I´m trying here hoping that someone could help out ...
    What I´m trying to do should be simple, but its seems it´s not that simple.
    in my iPhone App that I´m developing using the iPhone SDK I´m realy limited with the Fonts avaible on the Phone ... so I want to use a custom font in the App... A font that would be included in the Resource Bundle
    I cant get this to work at all so please pleaase if anyone here could tell me and maybe outhers how this is done I would be so happy ...
    here are some psudo code I´ve written that does not work but I think I´m on the right path ...

    CGFontRef myfont = CGFontCreateWithDataProvider(fontDataProvider);
    CGContextSetFont(context, myfont);
    Please ....

    Hello,
    Has anybody been able to get this to work? I've tried combining this with the Quartz Guide's example on how to draw text and all I get is a blank screen. I even tried using the Quartz guide exactly without the custom font and it still doesn't work.
    Here is my code: (But no text displays and no errors)
    - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
    CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext();
    [self MyDrawText:context rect:rect];
    - (void)MyDrawText:(CGContextRef)myContext rect:(CGRect)contextRect

    w = contextRect.size.width;
    h = contextRect.size.height;

    CGContextSelectFont (myContext, // 3
    "Times-Bold",
    h/10,
    kCGEncodingMacRoman);
    CGContextSetCharacterSpacing (myContext, 10); // 4
    CGContextSetTextDrawingMode (myContext, kCGTextFillStroke); // 5
