Custom Rules in ORACLE 10g

Hi,
I have an Ontology containing some sample triples.
for eg:
        v1:Item v1:hasCost "100"
        v1:Item v1:hasWarrantyForYears "3"
There are some instances of Item in the Ontology, with hasColor=100 and some with hasWarrantyForYears=3.
Now when ever an user asks for items with cost=100 then he should also get Items with warranty of 3 years. Is there any way that one can write a "User Defined Rule' in 10g so that this 'cost=100 or warranty=3' need not be mentioned in the SPARQL and can be implicitly reasoned using the Rule.
I have tried with this kind of a rule:
insert into mdsys.rdfr_ECORuleBase1 values( 'Rule1' ,
          '(?instance1 rdf:type v1:Item) (?instance1 v1:hasColor "RED")
          '(?instance2 rdf:type v1:Item) (?instance2 v1:hasWarrantyForYears "3")
          null ,
          '(?instance1 rdf:type ?instance2) ',
           sdo_rdf_aliases(
                                   sdo_rdf_alias('v1','http://localhost:8989#') ,
                                   sdo_rdf_alias('v2','http://localhost:8989#')
But this did not work. Please suggest me a good rule for this....
Thanks,
Rajesh.

Hi!
I am also trying on a rule much similar to what is being discussed here.
insert into mdsys.rdfr_RuleBase1 values
( 'Rule1' ,
'( ?instance rdf:type :ClassA)
(?instance :has_PropertyA ?a) (?a :hasValue ?c)',
'REGEXP_like(c, ''Open'')' ,
'(?instance :has_PropertyB ?b) (?b :hasValue "HIGH")' ,
sdo_rdf_aliases(...)
The purpose behind this rule is something like:
If I query for all instaces for ClassA that have the value of the property has_PropertyA as Open, then it should also give me all the instances that have a value for the property has_PropertyB as HIGH.
But when I query using this rule I donot get the required results.
The query is:
select j ID, c propertyA, d propertyB from table
( sdo_rdf_match ( '( ?instance rdf:type :ClassA)
(?instance :has_PropertyA ?a) (?a v2:hasValue ?c)
(?instance :has_ID ?i) (?i :hasValue ?j)
(?instance :has_PropertyB ?b) (?b :hasValue ?d)',
sdo_rdf_models( 'Model1' ) ,
sdo_rdf_rulebases(‘RuleBase1’) ,
sdo_rdf_aliases(…),
'c=''Open'''
But, I do not get all the extra instances that have propertyB = HIGH. I only get some extra instances wherein propertyA = Open and propertyB = HIGH. The query result leaves many instances where propertyB=HIGH, but the propertyA has many other values.
So, I am really stuck. I think there is something really wrong with the rule (that I have written). Maybe it needs to be modified to get what is expected. Please help.
Thanks
Bhaskar

Can anyone help me to get this up and running?

  • Oracle 10g Pivot query

    Hi,
I want to create a view. Sales amounts, countries and products will be showed in this view.
Report result will be like below:
    Products
    Countries Sales_Amount
TV Ipad Iphone Netbook Notebook EbookReader
    England 1000 1200 1400 3000 5000 200
    Germany 800 1000 1300 2800 6000 400
    France 1100 1100 1500 2400 3000 500
Number of products are not limited. New prodcuts can be added by the time.
Customer is using Oracle 10g. So I can not use pivot function which cames with Oracle 11g.
If the number of products is limited, I can write sql by decode operators.
But I can not find how to implement pivot function in Oracle 10g with unlimited column values.
    Do you have any comment?
    Thanks,Regards

From the SQL and PL/SQL FAQ:
"This is not easily possible as the number of columns returned by an SQL must be known before any data is fetched, it would have to be done dynamically.

  • Installation of Oracle 10g Application Server in custom port or 1522

I want to install Oracle 10g Application Server in Port 1522 or some other port as in port 1521 Oracle 10g database server is already installed.
But every time I try to install Oracle 10g Application Server it give the warning about 1521 port and then start installing on same 1521 port automatically.
What should I do if I want to install in some other port ?
    Please help
    Thanx

As a method, to install an OAS on a custom port,
    1) make a file called staticports.ini and define your components/ports there.
    2) on the Specify Port Configuration Options screen, select Manual and specify this file.
Follow this link for details for 10g.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/win.1012/install.1012/install/reqs.htm#CHDJACIG
However, there are ways to use the same port for OAS and DB depending upon the version of your listener. Check the version of your DB Listener, and if it is 10.1.0.2 or higher then you are just good to go with automatic port assignments.

    Strange...
You'd have to read (and accept) the OTN License Agreement (or, I guess, have a "regular" license), but as stated on the main software downloads index:
"+All software downloads are free, and each comes with a Development License that allows you to use full versions of the products at no charge while developing and prototyping your applications (or for strictly self-educational purposes).+"

also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
    # ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
    # touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
    # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules
    # Raw bind to Oracle Clusterware devices
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524174", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524179", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %N"If migrating to RHEL5/OEL5 from an earlier Linux version that relied on /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file for persistent raw device bindings, the following script can be used as a basis for generating your RHEL5/OEL5 udev rules. Note, the script does not factor device name persistency.
    #!/bin/bash
    grep -v "^ *#" /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices | grep -v "^$" | while read dev major minor ; do
    if [ -z "$minor" ]; then
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"${major##/dev/}\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %N\""
    else
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", ENV{MAJOR}==\"$major\", ENV{MINOR}==\"$minor\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %M %m\""

  • Oracle 10G Database Control and Scheduling OWB Process Flow

Does anyone know how to go about scheduling an OWB Process Flow from
Oracle 10G Data Base Control. I knew how to do this with Oracle Enterprise Manager 9.2 but we recently upgraded to Oracle Db 10G and the interface has changed significantly.
Now the interface seems to require a PL/SQL stored procedure to be executed.
Is there a template procedure that is installed with 10G Data Base Control as there was for 9.2 i.e. oem_exec_template.sql?
    Thanks! Deadline approaching fast...
    Marion

I've used the oem_exec_template.sql successfully with OWB 10.1 and Oracle 10G Database Control, with a little trial and error at first.
I'm assuming that your job execution environment is set up correctly, ie. that you can properly execute jobs via the host agent.
    1. Log on to Database Control as SYSTEM, select Jobs from the links at the bottom of the page
    2. In the Results section, Create Job, select "SQL Script" and press Go
    3. In the General section, enter Job Name, and as SQL Script enter e.g.:
    @/u01/app/oracle/owb_oracle_home/owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql owb_runtime WF_LOC PROCESS MY_PROCESS , ,
    4. In the Databases section, add your target database
    5. In the Credentials section, I select "Override Preferred Credentials" and use the agent account (oracle on my Linux system) and db user owb_access (OWB Runtime Access user)
    6. Review Schedule tab and submit
    Comments on step 3:
    - the oem_exec_template.sql script must be installed according to the path specified in step 3, on the database host where the OWB Runtime Repository is located
    - owb_runtime is the owner of my OWB Runtime Repository
    - WF_LOC is the name of my Workflow Location as seen in OWB Deployment Manager
    - MY_PROCESS is the name of a deployed Workflow Process
    - the commas indicate that I don't supply any system or custom parameters.
    - step 3 is actually a shell command line that is interpreted by eg. /bin/sh on Unix or cmd on Windows, and must obey proper quoting rules. On windows, I had to specify the empty commas as "\," (including dblquotes)

  • Oracle 10g enterprise versus standard

    Hi There!
    Please a question:
I need to explain a customer why it's better to install the oracle 10g enterprise edition than the standard.
I founded on metalink Doc ID: Note:271886.1: the different features BUT I founded that both includes the
Oracle Enterprise Manager Console!!!! So that's contradict the fact that you can have the inteligent tunning pack or others feature.
Is the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console the same in both versions?
Which added value I get on installing the enterprise edition instead of the standard?
    MANY THANKS!!!!!, Marcelo.

    Zaffer Khan,
thanks for your prompt answer but it does not really help me :(. I have no doubt about the power of EE and EM Grid Control in large enterprises, but when the customer wants to start small and grow as his business grows is hard to convince him about all the nice features of EE. That is why we are starting with SE1 and in the future the customer might upgrade if necesary.
Right now with all the international environment (see the credit crunch) everybody is much more careful in spending their IT budgets so the licensing costs are taken very seriously in consideration. In the same time they want to fully follow the rules and to use only the software they are paying for. But unfortunately I did not find anywhere a description of the functionalities in EM DBConsole that can be used in SE & SE1.
In the same time I do not understand why the functionalities that are not licensed are not disabled / hidden. It would make everybody's life much simpler :).
    Thanks,
    Florin

  • Oracle 10g Personal edition as a Client Database

Hi, Our enterprise application runs as in both Online and offline mode. For offline mode it uses Microsoft accesss as Data Store. Now we want to use Oracle 10g Personal Edition as Our client database, so that we can use stored procedure and have code base for both server and client. Oracle XE can not be used because Oracle XE is not supported by Oracle.
Please suggest what is the best way to deploy Oracle PE to get smallest footprint and best performance. It is alright to use PE as client DB or it is too much for offline application.
Any suggested customizations or Alternatives. We have rules out Oracle Database lite because it doesn't support Pl/ SQL SP. Thanks.

Note that Personal Edition is actually designed for Developers. It includes all options to the Enterprise Edition (except RAC) but is limited by license agreement to being used by one named person. You can not legally provide data from Personal Edition through direct connection electronically (eg: a web or app server) to several people. You also can not say "John is using it now, and when he is off, Fred will use it."
The best and smallest footprinit is XE, but (as you say) you can not purchasse support from Oracle. Next is Standard Edition 1, with a Standard Edition software install (SE and SE1 are the same s/w) and a custom-created DB.

  • Oracle 10g on HP-UX, Terrible Poor Performance!!

    Hi All,
    I setup an Oracle 10g on HP-UX 11iv1. Server is a HP 9000, 4 CPUs (750
MHZ). It is connected to Disk System 2405 (Virtual Array 7110). Fiber
Channels are connected at 2 GB speed.
I installed a cluster 10g database. First I installed CRS and after
that I installed oracle database. ( I want to test clustered database
    with one instance)
I installed every thing line by line as oracle document wrote.
All the things, kernel parameters, patches, are like oracle wrote in
    its document.
I installed Golden quality package June 2004.
I increased shmmax to 2.3 G . My SGA is 1.7 G And change some other
parameters as Sandy Gruver wrote in Best Practices for Oracle on HPUX.
I used oracle new storage system called ASM for this case.
When I put the system under the load, I was monitoring the system
    carefully.
I started gmp. When we sent some quarries to database (It is not heavy
load, I tested it with a Linux system on proliant ML570 without any
problem), suddenly DISK section in gpm changed to red (critical ) I
read the warning. It said "Disk bottleneck probability = 100%". I
changed the output of disk report to "Report IO by Disk"
"DISK%" was 100% and "RAW IO RT" was about 1000 for two disks ( This
two disks dedicated for ASM). In this situation CPU idle time was 1% or
2% for all the CPUs but load average was about 1. Performance is not
acceptable at all ( In comparison with Oracle that installed on Linux).
Glance reported Disk was in Critical situation.
I think the problem is IO or something about Disks
I used HP Disk System 2405. Fibber channels on both server side and
Disk Array side are configured at 2 Gb and topologies are
    PTTOPT_FABRIC.
Is it ok that RAW IO RT about 1000 for each LUN?
    Why Disk% in glance/report IO BY Disk/ was 100%?
I found an error in STM logs about I/O.It said:
    Entry type: I/O error
    Product: Fiber Channel Interface
    Logger: td
It logged this error about 12 times during the test.Any comment?
    Regards,
    Hasan

Sorry, I have not a solution for your problem, but similar things happen on our installation on Solaris 5.8 with Oracle 10:
I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
    Environment at Customer Server Side:
Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
    Data Storage: Em2
DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Need Advise and Suggestions-Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I have been working on databases as DB developer(mainly PLsql)--Oracle 10g
Recently,i have joined in a particular position where I have been asked to find out areas where
improvement is necessary / or areas where improvement or changes would help very much and also gradually implement all best practises avaialable.
So,could you please help me with these queries
(1)What are the most important areas that i can start with the database which would impact largely the entire database. How can i start with it? any steps or process
(2)I had once taken a report out for the expensive SQLs running. But that dint help much...because those SQLs were used temporarily on and off.
Similarly, what are the other points to be looked on.
(3)Things which can be replaced with the industry standarad better ones fully.
an example would be...like.."following a particular naming format,or coding style, etc
    Thanks
    Rohit

    Hi Rohit,
This is a pretty huge subject. To start, I'd say you need to talk to the business. Talk to the users of the database, cause they are your customers. Get a clear understanding of the most critical business processes. Start with the most critical ones, and get performance profiles. How long do they take to run? What's the customer's perception of the process performance? If it's acceptable, move on to the next one. If it's not acceptable, you'll need to dig deeper. Look at each piece of the process. Where is the most time being spent? Can it be improved? This step will be a combination of process improvement and setting the correct expectation. Often, the user doesn't really know what is realistic in terms of performance. If you have a 2 billion row table that needs to get full table scanned, expecting a response time of a few seconds just simply isn't going to happen. You need to clearly convey that to the customer. On the other hand, at the same time, you should be on the lookout for real improvements. If you can re-write the SQL or add an index, and eliminate the FTS on that 2 billion row table, maybe a response time of a few seconds is actually realistic.
It's all about understanding the system, and understanding the customer's needs, and how they intersect. It will be an iterative process, and will take some time.
As to "best practices", I'm not a fan of them. Understand your system, understand your customer's needs, and understand how Oracle actually works. If you can master that, you'll be unstoppable. Note that many, many people, much smarter people than me, have spent a lifetime trying to master those three points... :-)
Good luck with your new job!

  • Problem in Loading Data from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I am a university student and using ODI for my final project on real-time data warehousing. I am trying to load data from MS SQL Server 2000 into Oracle 10g target table. I am using a surrogate key column in my target table alongwith the natural key. The natural key is populated by the primary key of my source table, but for the surrogate key, I have created a sequence in my oracle schema where the target table exists and have used the following code for mapping:
    <%=snpRef.getObjectName( "L" , "SQ_PRJ_DIM_REGION" , "D" )%>.nextval
I have chosen to execute this code on target.
Among my attempts to solve this problem was to set Create Index option of the CKM Oracle(Create Index for the I$ Table) to No so that it wont create any index on the flow table. I also tried to use the simple CKM Oracle km . Both solutions allowed the interface to execute successfully without any errors, but the data was not loaded into the target table.
When I right-click on the Prj_Dim_Region data store and choose Data, it shows empty. Pressing the SQL button in this data store shows a dialog box " New Query" where I see this query:
    select * from NOVELTYFURNITUREDW.PRJ_DIM_REGION
But when i press OK to run it, I get this error message:

    Hi Cezar,
Can u plz help me with this scenario?
I have one Oracle data model with 19 source tables and one SQL Server data model with 10 target tables. I have created 10 interfaces which use JournalizedDataOnly on one of the tables in the interface; e.g in interface for DimCustomer target table, I have 2 tables, namely Customer and Address, but the journalizing filter appear only on Customer table and this option is disabled for Address automatically.
Now I want to create a package using OdiWaitForLog event detection. Is it possible to put all these 10 interfaces in just one package to populate the target tables? It works fine when I have only one interface and I use the name of one table in the interface for Table Name parameter of OdiWaitForLogData event, but when I try a comma seperated list of table names[Customer, Address] this error happens
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
and if I use this method <%=odiRef.getObjectName("L","model_code","logical_schema","D")%>, I get this error
    "-CDC_SET_NAME=Exception getObjectName("L", "model_code", "logical_schema", "D") : SnpLSchema.getLSchemaByName : SnpLschema does not exist" "
Please let me know how to make it work?
Do I need to create separate data models each including only those tables which appear in their corresponding interface and package? Or do I need to create multiple packages each with only one journalized interface to populate only one target table?
Thank you for your time in advance.

    Neel

i want one more instance of database. Can you perhaps explain why? I have a fair share of production and development servers - and not a single one of them needs to run more than one database instance.
So I'm interested in what requirement you are trying to satisfy by using two database instances on a single platform.
Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.)
