Custom Sync Problem (Unable to customize SYNC)

I am trying to transfer ONLY few iPhoto events from my computer to Apple TV. iTunes, though, ignores any changes in SYNC settings and no matter what I check or uncheck to synchronize; the results is the same. It starts syncing everything, TV shows, music, podcasts...I haven't waited long enough to see if it syncs the photos (the only thing I wanted to sync at the first place).

If you have enabled a custom sync (See This) then the tv will only sync what it is told. Using the movies category as an example, you would check 'selected movies' and then simply have all the movies unchecked in the list below.
If you are doing this, then are you sure the tv is actually syncing what you think it is, both synced and streamed content is listed on the tv. If you don't want streamed content listed on the tv then go to the summary tap in your sync options and check the box 'Show only synced items on my Apple TV'.

  • "Custom Sync" doesn't custom sync

    I am just getting to grips with a new aTV and have noticed there seems to be a glitch with the "Custom Sync" setting in iTunes.
    I want to use the aTV as the main music source in my hifi without needing to have my Mac and iTunes switched on (at least until my iTunes library gets too big for it all to fit on the aTV), but don't want all my iTunes playlists showing on the aTV (e.g. have specific playlists for an iPod).
    So, on the iTunes Apple TV Summary tab I have selected "Custom Sync" and "Show only the synced items on my Apple TV". On the Music tab have selected "Sync music - Selected playlists" and chosen 7 playlists.
    The problem is that the aTV is not showing only the playlists I have selected, but also a couple of unselected ones.
    I know this isn't the end of the world, but it is annoying. Any thoughts on causes and/or solutions? (or is this just a glitch awaiting the next software update?).

    Thanks "Winston" - I had wondered if this might be the reason, but it didn't seem to match the logic of allowing only specific playlists to be selected.
    The reason I was using playlists was that I found the browsing on the aTV a bit of a pain. It would be great if there was a quicker way of browsing to a particular artist, album, etc, than having to cycle through really long lists. Here's hoping for some improvements in 2.4 (as I said, these are just niggles - I think the aTV is a great bit of kit).

  • Continuing frustration at Custom Sync

    Hi,
    I'm bringing up pretty much the same unresolved question I raised here and on other forums back in June and before that last November with regards to Custom Sync on my ATV.
    Having just upgraded to the new 3.0 software, I took a deep breath and thought I would try yet again and see if somehow my issue had been resolved in software. My issue is that while my ATV streams content just fine, I have since I bought it been unable to Custom Sync content to it - it either ignores what I specify or syncs a small part of the content.
    For example this morning I selected the Music tab. I specified a smart playlist and it copied over 24 of the 192 tracks contained within. I then tried a normal playlist and it ignored it. I then specified a band from the Artist list on the right hand side, ignored. I specified 3 different Movies, ignored on Sync. I specified 5 TV Shows one after the other and it added them ok. I tried a 6th and it ignored it.
    Now looking for patterns of behaviour, whenever I update software it always disables the Auto Sync recent content option so it starts to want to copy over that. I have to click Custom Sync and press Sync to override this. However it's almost as if the stuff it does want to allow to be Custom Synced has to be recent additions to my library - in line with the rules of Auto Sync. It was notable that the 5 TV shows I specified were all introduced into this particular library fairly recently, whereas the 6th it did not like has been sitting there for some months. But then again, at least one of the movies it ignored is recent.
    Just a hypothesis of course, but really frustrated at this perennial issue. All I'm wanting to be able to do is dump some content onto the thing to take away to someone's house and watch. I cannot do this unless they have iTunes, a wireless network and I have to take the content and add it to their iTunes first. Not much of a workaround for what should be a simple job.
    Again, any other similar issues or miraculous workarounds or fixes would be very appreciated.

    If you are saying you believe that new content syncs and older content doesn't, you might want to try rebuilding your itunes library.

  • ATV not custom syncing ever since iTunes update??

    Alright- I've had a few problems with my ATV here and there- but for the most part, I've figured them out without too much headache. Now with the last iTunes update (8.0) it is telling me that I may have a port glitch within my firewall software for the AppleTV on my cpu... So what's happening is when my cpu is on, my ATV will automatically sync as usual which is great- I can run everything fine- no problems; However, if I try to custom sync any content- add or remove- it will give me the error message I described above. I'm not necessarily the best at networking glitches... but I checked my Network Utility and did a port scan on my IP and it said that the port that the AppleTV was looking for was open... any clues on the best way of solving this? Should I try a factory restart to reset this issue or will this not be the right step to solve this?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance... =-)

    Well, I am set up for file sharing with my wife's MacBook... but it is rarely ever on, and requires user login to connect the two... no remote access or anything running. We do have a PC in the house that shares the network- but no file sharing going on. As far as the 3rd party apps, everything on our cpu is essentially stock off the shelf- no virus software or other network interferences- my cpu is tied to my router via ethernet cable and my other 2 cpu's and AppleTV are protected via WEP on my home network. The only thing I have changed on my cpu is the location of my iTunes Library to a TB external hard drive for storage purposes. Otherwise everything is as it was when it was taken off of the shelf. So I'm not sure if a 3rd party device is interfering here since my AppleTV is otherwise working fine (renting movies occasionally, youTube, etc.), if I did have any problems on that front- I'd think maybe it messed up the settings with my router, but I don't think that is the case here. I hope this gives you a little more of an idea of the network I have... any direction you can give me is very much appreciated.

    Yes, I am using Visual Studio 2005 Professional with the .Net 2.0 framework and 2007.  However, most of the methods are not there, and things seem to have changed drastically, however the sample is still referencing the old.  Is there something that I am missing?

  • Custom Sync - Target Invocation Error

    Hello,
    I wrote a custom sync that runs fine in my enviornment, however when I port the .dll over to my customers server, I get the following error:
    Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
    I have searched the internet for advice, and found things related to permissions and other issues, but none that seem to fit.  I figured I would just query the group here to see if anyone else ran into this problem and was able to resolve.

    I'm using two synch plugins, one for Items and one for BusinessPartners. Both of them have been compiled referencing the same versions of the .dlls listed above, the same versions that both SAP and Web Tools use.

I have 160Gb model apple TV (iTunes says 144Gb so i assume it's 160 can't rememeber) and the latest iTunes. I have just tried reinstalling itunes then rebuilding library via adding all files from a backup. It used to work fine just started playing up recently. Any help is appreciated thanks

  • Help in custom syncing multiple devices

    How can I custom sync multiple devices - iPod touch, iPad, iPhone - with laptop?  I don't want all the same material on each device and in the past have either deleted items I wanted on a device when I synced or put all library stuff - music, tv, books - on all devices...neither is what I want.  Can you offer advice?

    When you connect one of them to your computer, select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes under 'Devices', and you can then use the tabs on the right-hand side of iTunes to select which of your content to sync to the device i.e. which apps, music, tv shows, films etc. You can then repeat that for your other devices and iTunes should remember your selections for each device, so the next time you connect that device to it those selections should be populated on those tabs - I sync my iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to the same computer's iTunes and I have different content on each.

  • Please enter a valid server URL when attempting to register on a custom sync server.

    This happens in the dialog when attempting to enter a custom sync server URL. Soon after typing http:// or https:// or even if you type any single character and wait a few seconds, the words "Please enter a vlid server URL" appear under the entry field next to a X in a red box.
    After entering a complete and valid URL the above text never goes away and the "next" button never gets enabled. Including after filling all the rest of the dialog. that error message remains and it is impossible to go forward.
    This happens on all of my desktop Firefox installations. I can't test it on a mobile device as it is not possible to create an account that way.
    I've tried it with and without a port number in the URL.

  • Customer Service Problems

    After fighting with Verizon customer service over two service issues without any possibility of resolution I am canceling my account. 
    I’m doing this reluctantly because as a long-term shareholder of Verizon I would like to see the company succeed and keep profitable.  Yet I am appalled by the cavalier, disrespectful, obstructionist treatment from your staff in dealing with customer service problems.  When you were just the telephone company and operated as a monopoly in a regulated industry, you had to take customer issues seriously.   Now that you are an unregulated telecommunications giant it seems that you don’t feel the need to respond to your customers.  Someone in your company needs to hear this and put a stop to these destructive business practices. 
    In brief, the first issue involved arranging a service call for interruption of internet service.  The entire process kept me on the phone for a total of 3 hours over several days.  I have given up my land line and use a cell phone exclusively.  Verizon’s communication systems and staffing levels caused me to wait on hold for 10-15 for each person that I spoke to. Then each conversation averaged 10 minutes.   In addition, I was transferred to different departments but  I did not understand the reason for the transfers.  Then the pattern of hold-talk-transfer began again.  Several times my calls were dropped necessitating more repeats of the hold-talk-transfer pattern.  Some of your staff were South Asian and they either garbled or misunderstood English, thus prolonging the conversation beyond the average of 10 minutes.    During that time I incurred cell phone charges of $.45/ minute.   
    After the service was restored I called Verizon customer service and asked for a service credit to compensate me for those out-of-pocket expenses over and above 30 minutes which I consider to be a reasonable amount of time to arrange a service call.  They denied any responsibility for the amount of time it took to arrange the service call or the amount of time to complain about their service.  I was not happy with the outcome so I requested to speak with someone who was a decision maker and had authority to negotiate a settlement.  I also asked to have them communicate with me through email.  I was told that communicating through email was not possible.  These calls followed the same pattern of hold-talk-transfer averaging 30 minutes each.  I repeated myself to 3 or 4 people who wrote down my complaint before I got to a manager who had decision making authority.  The manager denied any responsibility for the amount of time it took to arrange the service call and would not authorize a service credit.  
    The second issue involved billing.  I signed up for auto-pay to have my monthly bill deducted directly from my bank account.  Verizon’s computer system deducted the bill twice, overdrawing my account.  I incurred a bank overcharge fee.   The same pattern of hold-talk-transfer began for this complaint as well.  The customer service staff refused to take responsibility for this error as well.  Their solution required me to spend more time and incur extra expenses.  I had to repeat myself to 3 or 4 complaint takers before I reached the same manager who denied my first request.  He denied any responsibility for this billing problem too.    I had to have my bank retrieve the money under a fraud compliant.
    Verizon is one of the largest *communications* corporations in the world.  If your internal systems can't handle customer service calls in a reasonable amount of time, then there is a problem.  If your customer service staff is unwilling to take responsibility for such inadequacies and solve the issues that emerge from them, then there is a problem.  If a customer has to contact the CEO of the company to try to resolve two service related issues, then there is a problem.  When all of those actions prove inadequate, then there is a *communications* problem.
    Customer service has flagged my account and put me down as a “problem” customer.  Instead of offering even a token settlement, they are prepared to stonewall me by maintaining that the company is just not at fault and that they tried to solve the problems but I wouldn’t cooperate or accept their solutions.   Early on in the process, if someone told me that Verizon messed up just a little, but still couldn’t compensate me, I would have accepted that, albeit reluctantly, and dropped the matter.
    This is not the way I do business and I resent it when others don’t feel the need to honor any kind of code.  I grew up working in my family’s retail liquor store.  From the time I was a kid I learned four customer service lessons that I’ve carried over into my adult life:
    Admit when you are wrong and try to make up for the mistake.
    Never argue with a customer over small things.
    Listen to the compliant and don’t just dismiss it out-of-hand
    Try to make things right even though you may not be directly responsible for problem.
    For my two problems, Verizon customer service staff didn’t even come close to following these common sense rules.   I’ve learned that if you ask their customer service people they will repeat back to you some type of business code that they say they operate under.  But their behavior tells a different story.
    Unfortunately when I spoke with {edited for privacy} of the Executive Presidential Appeals office, I was taken somewhat aback by his manner and demeanor, which was coarse and inappropriate for a customer service discussion, and which I found personally offensive.  He and members of his staff agreed to send me emails specifying which part of the Terms of Service they based their decisions on.  To date I have not received the communications they promised.
    Is this the image of your company that you want the public to see? Are you willing to just shrug off these complaints as an isolated case that is too small to concern yourself about?  I’m afraid the answer will be yes.  Not only do you feel that you are too big to fail, but you are too big to care.   Customer service means solving problems not manufacturing bad will and resentment.  
    My purpose in writing this note has been twofold: to make one last effort to solve my problem and to hope that someone will take note about the issues about customer service practices that are harmful to the company. I'd be happy to speak with someone with real authority to deal
    with my issues but have no interest in repeating my past experiences.
    It's too bad that this had to happen since the solution could have been so easy and simple.
    I plan to publish some form of this letter and distribute it to the public.

    A $65 balance remain for a cancellation fee on internet DSL service, by Verizon New York mistake.
    In February of 2010, I set up my phone and TV in a vacation plan but keep my internet service active. After a month I had a vacation plan, suddenly without notification, my internet service was suspended and a cancellation fee was issued.
    My final statement was $ 24.47. I cleared a check from Verizon.
    I contacted Verizon online to request connect my internet service and discuss the issue on the cancellation fee. The response was that I should pay the internet cancellation fee, and paid a new activation.
    After fighting with Verizon customer service over the unacceptable fee charge service issue without any possibility of resolution I cancel my home phone which was in a vacation plan. 
     Later I kept receiving the statement with this cancellation fee every month. I called and discussed the issue more than 6 times during the next 6 months, The entire process kept me on the phone for a total of 2 hours over several months. The costumer representatives responded that the issue was in an investigation.
    Later,  a Collector company start chasing me to get the $65 paid. Phone number: {edited for privacy}, Inclusive, they made an offer to reduce the amount if I accept to pay or contact Verizon to request a clarification.
    By the end of the year, I contacted Verizon costumer services one more time but the representative stated that the account is not visible anymore.
    Convinced that the problem on this account was resolved, the second week of November, I called Verizon to reestablish my account with a new home phone number and Internet DSL connection.
    The answer was that  following Verizon policy I was unable to get a new account if a balance remain.
    After I explained the events, a manager (non-identified) who spoke to me by phone told me that Verizon will investigate the issue and I should wait for approval.
    On November 16, my account was confirmed approved and clear of debt, therefore, Verizon welcome me back with Home phone and internet DSL Service and confirmation on my online registration.

    Also, during the months of January and February 2010, Verizon New York, made other charges mistakes in my account (See details below) that have been resolved with an apologize and a refund.

    2/08/10 Verizon eCenter responded. Cheniqua. 'I have issued a credit of $6.52 for a Verizon internet security suite charges'; your internet charges
    2/04/10 I have contacted Verizon customer support in regard of clarification in my Direct TV  statement.

    According to your post, my understanding is that you get the error “Code Blocks not allowed in this page”.
    As soon as the page is "customized" (formerly known as "unghosted"), the reference to the page for that site is in the database, not the file system.
    Without a change to web.config, code blocks are not allowed and the page breaks.
    The options to fix are
    Reset the page to the site definition using SharePoint Designer
    Remove the code blocks from the customized page
    Change the web.config
    There is an option about change the web.config to resolve this issue, you can refer to it.

  • "Problem: Unable to play file type for...". Moderator please help

    When using the spotlfy app from squeeze box I get this message every time: "Problem: Unable to play file type for" then list the song name. I can pick the music and see the art but no play. This is when I am attempting to stream from spotlfy on squeeze box. Logitech customer service told me spotlfy has not been running on squeezebox for weeks. Please help or I'll have to cancel subscription.

    The 3rd party plug-in solved this problem for me, but only after I'd figured out a few other things, so I'm sharing them here: a) You have to have BOTH plug-ins running, both the v 1.0 "official Spotify plug-in "  *and*  the third party plug-in, which is on v2.3.8 as I write this. b) after you have activated the third party plug-in (and re-started the Squuezebox server)  You have to open up the settings for the plug-in ( link in the far right colum)  I don't think it matters how you choose to set these (I didn't mess with them.) The critical thing is that you must log into your Spotify account from within the this plug-in settings screen in order for the 3rd party plug-in to do its job.  (And maybe you'll have to re-start the Squeezebox server yet again.  I just do that without even thinking when trying to sort out these problems.) What makes this all challenging is that the symptoms change at each step:  At first, with just the official plug-in activated, I got the "can't read file format" error message.  After activating the 3rd party plug in (but before logging in from inside it)  Spotify appeared to be working perfectly on the screen of my Squeezbox controller, indicating that a song was playing (even the bright white light  that shows something is streaming was lit.) However. no sound was actually coming through.  After I logged in as above, I finally got music to match all the on-screen indications. No logic to this that I can figure out.  It just seems typical of life with Squeezebox.

    I'm unable to customize the home screen.
    The icons dont wiggle as they are supposed to when I keep them pressed for sometime.
    I have upgraded to ver 1.1.4, restored to factory settings, restarted but no help. Any suggestion?

    It's not a matter of "helping" in this situation. If you want that functionality, it is included in the upgrade. With upgrade: do what you are trying, without upgrade: not able to. Personally, if that is the only item you want, I would weigh the cost versus the benefits. $20 seems (to me) steep for the ability to move icons. If you, however, are also interested in the other apps that come along with it, then the price is much more reasonable.

    in order to use only one logical system (PI's) in we20 in ECC and not as many as you have sender systems

  • Unable to customize my portal masthead

    Hi,
    I am unable to customize my portal masthead.
    I can't download the par file like "System Administration -> Support -> Portal Runtime -> Browse Deployment -> WEB-INF -> deployment -> temp (or) pcd -> com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak ".
    I'm using 2004s, EP7.0 , SP6
    Unable to find the com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak in the ZIP FOLDER.
    Any valuable inputs to solve the prob are most welcome.Are there any blogs ?
