Custom TOC button in Captivate 4?

Hi all,
I'm using Captivate 4 with imported PowerPoints. I'd like to use the Captivate skin's built-in TOC without using the playbar (and its available TOC button). However, that leaves me with only the teensy little grey TOC tab/slider thingy in the upper left corner to open/close the TOC, which doesn't seem to be large or distinct enough to get my users' attention.
I'd like to add a larger custom TOC button that opens and closes the TOC overlay from the slide footer, but can't find anything to point my button at so as to make that happen. Any suggestions?
If this has been addressed already, apologies, I didn't find it.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
In Captivate 5 you can change this icon. For CP4 I believe someone created a widget, am looking for it later on and will be back when I find it.

  • Javascript for custom Exit button on Saba LMS with SCORM 2004 v3 requirements.

What should I add to the javascript panel on a custom exit button in Captivate to properly exit a course uploaded to a Saba LMS with SCORM 2004 requirements?

I can confirm that the approach recommended by georgeyp worked for me with Captivate 5.5 and Saba. After publishing in Captivate, I opened the SCORM zip package and edited the imsmanifest to remove the masteryscore line. It seems that the LMS has nothing to compare to the 0 score value passed by Captivate and so it does not move the incomplete course to the Transcript and mark it ‘Unsuccessful’.
I did not have an issue with the course getting stuck on the first screen and just showing the LMS initialization text.
Note that I also tried the additional code (suggested but not guaranteed by Saba) and it did not solve the problem. I also tried using the 'SendTrackingDataAtEnd' SCORM template available in Captivate under Preferences > Quiz > Reporting. It did not solve the problem either.

  • Creating Custom Buttons in Captivate 3

In the first version of Captivate, I was able to create my
own image buttons, including the three states of the button (over,
down, click). When I select one of the included buttons in
Captivate 3, the three states of that button are added
automatically. How do I create my own custom buttons and include
the three states in Captivate 3?
    Thanks,
    Erica

Hi Erica and welcome to our community
The process is essentially the same. The only difference here
is that instead of just browsing to the button images and selecting
them individually, you name them appropriately and place them where
    Captivate expects to find them.
They are expected to be found in the following location:
(Assuming you haven't deviated from the default location during
    install)
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\Buttons
    The names should be:
    ButtonName_down.EXT
    ButtonName_over.EXT
    ButtonName_up.EXT
*Note that .EXT reflects the image format. This could be .GIF
or .JPG or .PNG or .BMP and ButtonName reflects what you want to
    call your button.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • How can I alt tag the TOC button that appears at the top of the menu?

Running the current version of Cp7 on a windows 7 machine.
A 508 hang up once again: The customer insists on an active TOC for the project file. We've activated the TOC and it works fine, but there's a secondary TOC expand/collapse button located at the top of the slide right here:
Although I can change the icon for the expand/collapse TOC in the TOC setting menu:
I can't put an alt tag on the button, meaning that JAWS and other screen readers just reads it as an unnamed button - which would be "bad" if you're trying to pass a 508 compliance test - which I am. I know alt tags don't travel with the image file, and I can't find any way to access the file in Captivate to give it an accessibility name. Anybody have a workaround?
    Justenuf

You can replace the current image with one of your own choosing.  But even if you make the replacement just a one pixel GIF, I think it will still register somewhere in the screenreader as a button.
However, to be fair to Captivate, you can use the TOC button on the playbar to activate the TOC if need be, or you can set up on screen buttons to do that.
Personally, I wouldn't be using an overlay TOC at all.  I'd be trying for a Separate TOC so that it was available all the time.
However, I had read somewhere on this forum (a year or so back) about someone else finding that the links on the TOC itself were not completely 508 compliant.  So maybe you're just chasing your tail here if you're trying to achieve perfect 508 compliance.

  • Custom TOC

I am trying to create a custom TOC in Captivate.  I don't want to use the built in one with captivate.  We are looking to have the menu slide up from the bottom, and display checkmark and other things as they complete stuff.  The only problem I am hitting (and a big one) is that I cannot have multiple named items on screens.  And of course on the master I cannot name it.  So I have no options of calling the menu from actions, unless I create a seperate name on each slide and have to code each one.
    Any ideas?  thanks in advanced.

  • Pixelation of Built In Buttons in Captivate 6

    All,
I am creating a new E-learning course in a resolution of 995 x 627 which after much research have found to be the best resoultion. I am having some issues with pixelation that is weird and wanted to bounce it off the group.
I am using the built in buttons in captivate 6 for navigations. If i resize any of the buttons even with using the SHIFT key, I see a lot of pixelation or the buttons seems blurry.
Can anyone tell me a way to fix this issue as i dont want to increase the resolution size of this project?
    Thanks
    S

    Hello,
The 'old' buttons, think you are talking about those, are bitmap (format bmp) and think that is the cause. Just some ideas: did you try out the shapes (vector based) and use them as buttons? You have a lot more possibilities for customizing, and I find them showing up a lot crisper. Moreover they can be used on master slides, if you are talking about navigation, which is not possible with the old buttons. Or you can set them on the first slide and display for the rest of the project. I am finishing a blog post about using shape buttons on master slides.

  • Can I get rid of the TOC button on the playbar?

My project is set up to have a TOC and for most of my project I use a TOC button with widget to open the TOC. I am also using the Playback control Pearl for a portion of my project. When in this section where the playback control is active if I choose the TOC button to skip to a portion of the project it keeps the playback control and TOC open even though those slides initially are set to not show the playback control or TOC unless a button is clicked.
Any help on how to get rid of the TOC button on the playback control or to automatically hide this after you jump to a different part of the project?

  • Adding a button before the TOC button in a WebHelp Pro navigation bar

My client wnats to add a "Home " button to the left of the TOC button in the navigation bar. I can ad buttons to the right of the "standard buttons": TOC, Search, Print, and Glossary, but even if I go and edit the skn file and add the "Home" botton before the TOC one, it still displays to the right. Is there anything I am missing?
    Thanks.
Using RoboHelp 9 and Robohelp Server.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I don't have RH Server, so this is a bit of a guess but I think one method will work.
Modify the toolbar order in whstart.js.
    1. In whstart.js, go to line 184 (RH10), it has the text else if (nMsgId == WH_MSG_TOOLBARORDER).
    2. Below the opening bracket add the following code:
    oMsg.oParam = "CUSTOM|toc|glo|idx|fts|blackblock|searchform|banner";
    return false;
    3. Open whskin_tbars.htm and go to the bottom of the file to find a few calls starting with addButton.
    4. Copyt the id of the button (customxxxx) and replace the text CUSTOM in whstart.js.
    Modify whskin_tbars.htm
    1. Open whskin_tbars.htm
    2. Go to the bottom of the file and find a few calls starting with addButton.
    3. Set the lines in the order you want the buttons to appear. (Don't forget the 'blankblock' button to push certain content to the right of the toolbar.
    4. Remove the call to the function ReSortToolbarButtons() from the file whskin_tbars.js.
If WebHelp does still resort the buttons, try adding return false; as the first code in the function ReSortToolbarButtons() in the file whtbar.js
    Hope this helps,

  • Change TOC button on play-bar to read "MENU" instead of "TOC"

    Hello!
How can I change the TOC button on the play-bar to read "MENU" instead of "TOC"?
Any help is very much appreciated!
    -Chris

    Greetings.
Upon reading through your post here:
A Persona specifies the colors for text and background.
You can edit those values for the current Persona on the about:config page in the pref lightweightThemes.usedThemes in accentcolor and textcolor.
    lightweightThemes.usedThemes:
    [{"id":"1","name":"Persona","accentcolor":"#f8f8f8","textcolor":"#000000","description":"*****","author":"*****","headerURL":"http://getpersonas-cdn.mozilla.net/","footerURL":"http://getpersonas-cdn.mozilla.net/","previewURL":"","iconURL":"","updateURL":""}]
I had an issues regards of the font's color that few of the personas which I had installed; there are persona's background color making the font difficult to see(which the fonts is in its default color: black) or in some other personas that came with its own custom edit font's color that I'm not satisfied with.....
May I ask, does this method that you had given on this thread edits the font's color into any other color ?

  • Cp6 - Creating a TOC button (without Flash widget)

    Hello everyone,
I am working on a elearning template that doesn't use a time slider bar so, navigation is done through the use of back/next buttons.
I am also employing the Captivate TOC as a overlay. The problem I am having is that the default trigger to open the TOC is not only intrusive in it's default top-left corner location (affecting our branding), it is also a potential source of confusion for learners (to find it).
Apparently, there is a way to implement a TOC button on the master slide (without using a widget) in Captivate 6. Can someone please tell me how this is accomplished?
---------------- FLASH WIDGET IS A LAST RESORT
As a last resort, I will consider a Flash widget for now. Apparently, there is a good one here: http://www.cpguru.com/toc-button-widget-for-adobe-captivate/
    The problems:
    1) We want to avoid Flash, if possible, because our elearning content will eventually need to be outputted as HTML 5.
    2) CPUGURU's widget source is not available and it is not in AS3 code (AFAIK). We will need the source for further customization.
Does anyone know how to open and close the TOC without a Flash widget?
    Thank you,
    Doug

    Hello Doug,
Do you have the playbar enabled? In that case, if you set the TOC as overlay there is 'TOC' button which appears automatically in the playbar. Are you looking for something else?
    Thanks,
    Vish

  • Custom TOC WITHIN the Project?

One glaring weakness (in my opinion) of Captivate is the inability to truly customize the TOC. What is included is flat-out ugly, and the customization options are quite limited.
So it hit me today to try this:
Use an Advanced Action, along with a simple shape button to toggle the show/hide of the TOC.
I created a quick example and it works great....problem is, Captivate won't allow a grouped object that is pasted onto a Master slide, or any grouped object (or any object) anywhere to retain it's reference name across slides.
Has anyone else tried this before? I was thinking the only other approach that might work would be to develop the TOC in Flash, export as an AS3 swf, and then import into the Master Slide, and then trigger the showing/hiding of that via a shape button in Captivate. But, although we can import SWF to a Master Slide, we can't give it a reference name and thus cannot manipulate it via an Advanced Action.
    Very frustrating....
Is everyone out there just sticking with either the stock TOC, or the not all that much better/different 3rd-party TOC widgets that are out there?
Any approaches I haven't thought of that you could recommend to solve this problem?

Sorry, Rod, to disagree with you. Did you try out that variable? It is working only with overlay TOC for me, not with separate TOC.
    Danielle, create a button, for Success action in the Properties panel for this button choose 'Execute Advanced Action'. Then open the Adv. actions dialog box with the small folder icon right to the Script-field. Create this action;
This action will not release the play head.
I talked about that kind of toggle buttons in a recent article on my blog (it was for shape buttons, but actions can also be created for default buttons of course): http://lilybiri.posterous.com/toggle-shape-buttons

  • Custom TOC Skinning

  • Create a TOC in a captivate module that navigates to other SCOs

How do I tell a link within a captivate SCO to go to a different SCO? I know I need to code this capability into the manifest, but how do I include those instructions in the module itself? Do I attach a piece of code to the TOC button that tells it to close the current SCO and open the new SCO? Is there an advanced action to do this or do I need to call some Javascript?
I know this is a big question, so any push in the right direction is appreciated.

Trying to call another SCO from a terminating SCO is not a good idea.  Trying to code the Project End action to call the next action is likely to get you only trouble and possibly malfunctioning scoring in your LMS.  You should leave this type of thing to the LMS.
If you have a half decent LMS it should have an option (some call it AutoContinue) that will load the next SCO when one finishes.  Yes you can code sequencing instructions into the imsmanifest.xml file and some multi-SCORM packaging tools allow you to specify these rules.  Check out the Adobe Multi SCORM Packager that comes with Elearning Suite 6 or higher.  It may do what you want.  Or else try the RELOAD Editor (Google for it).
