Custom waveform graph

Hi, i'm making a virtual lab for my final exam at university, now i'm on the oscilloscope and i need to make a custom waveform graph to put on my image of an oscilloscope that have the grid make in photoshop. I wanto to know how to make an invisible waveform graph that show only the waveform and if is correct to enlarge the graph area like the fake scope grid or i must make other adjustment. Thanks and sorry for my english

Hello Silversky,
Don't worry for your english, I'm pretty sure I understood your concerns. In other words, you are wondering how to have a custom control to show up only the waveform signal and overlap it on a custom image representing an oscilloscope. This is a very challenging cosmetic task at first, however you can get the best form using Custom Controls and achieve your task:
Customizing NI LabVIEW Controls and Indicators
Customizing the Gauge Control in LabVIEW
Moreover. I attached a Type Def showing how to customize a Waveform Graph close to the way your are looking for.
Have a great day and let me know if you need additional help.
Best regards

  • How to add custom graphical features to cursors in Waveform Graphs

    Hi all:
I´ve starting a project in LabView, in which I need to synchronise some events with a sound track.
To do this, I tought that LabView would be the tool of choice, but now that I´m working on it, I
found my self faced with some serious problems.
What I want to do, is to represent a .wav sound file in a Waveform graph, and then use the cursors
to mark some points in the desired places where I want things to happen, but, these events are
going to be on during some period of time.
So, it will be natural that some consecutive events might overlap in time, and I need to have
    some control on this.
The best solution would be to have a rectangular strip attached to the cursors, with a lenght
representing the exact time duration of the event.
But this is only possible on my dreams, because I dont see any tools on LabView that aloud us to implement
any extra graphical features on the cursors.
But as I learned more about LabView, I found that a user can program blocks of software in C, to implement
things that LabView does´nt do by default.
And now I´m wondering if this could be the solution for my problem.
Is it possible to add new custom features such as the one that I need?
    If yes, how?
I have atached an image to give a clear ideia of what I need.
    I´ll apretiate any help.
    Thanks

No, you can't modify the cursors with either the native or C code. But I'm wondering if you can't get what you want with an XY graph instead of a regular graph. You can have multiple separate plots and some of them can be thick horizontal lines. I've attached a file with just some constants wired to an XY graph to show what I mean. Obviously, you'd have to calculate the values for the x and y arrays in your real situation. If you have to use a regular graph to display the .wav file, you could also overlay a transparent XY Graph on top. The other possiblity is to use a picture control to display your data. There's a couple of shipping examples (i.e. Waveform and XY Plots, XY Multi Plot) that show how data can be represented and Pen Attributes and Sub setting shows how you can draw lines of different widths.

  • Custom Waveform or XY Graph Control

    Hi
I need a special Waveform Graph or XY-Graph Control in LV2009
Take a look at the following picture or attachment.
There are 12 channels and all channels have same X-axis (actually Time Axis)
But each channel has different and "separate"  Y-axis (Amplitude)
Is it possible to make it in LV2009? or LabVIEW has already something like that?
Sorry for my bad english !
    Solved!

Ah, here we go. Use the "Active Plot" property and then set the "Y Scale Index" for each active plot.
(Due to the way snippets work, the reference became a control.)
Also, for your application, you probably want to put it in a loop that runs through all 15 plots:

  • Change the x axis scale markers in a waveform graph

    Hello all,
I am looking at an unusual graphing problem that hopefully has been solved.  The problem is because an pre-existing DAQ graph does things in a chart-like manner.
The application context is that I measure a signal vs. test length.  During the test, I calculate the UUT position as a function of the test length.  The test includes measurements out and back.  Rather than graph signal vs. length; I want to graph signal vs. position.  I have considered the XY graph, but that co-locates the position data.  To remain consistent with an existing test program, I want to change the X Axis marker labels from distance to position at each marker's distance.
I would like to customize marker text for a waveform graph's X Axis.  I found a sub-property node for marker text, but it does not seem to iterate through a Waveform graph's X Axis markers.
    For example, a test measures the distance 0 to 200 and the X Axis markers are labeled {0, 50, 100, 150, 200}.  How do I change those labels to {0, 50, 100, 50, 0}?
The Marker Values[] property node does not do what I expected.
    Thanks,
    Kenneth
    Possible solutions:
    1. Find a property node that does the job
    2. Use custom indicators for each marker's labels
    3. Use two graphs, one for forward, the other for reverse testing
    4. XControls

For your option #4 I would use option #2 but use a single picture and hide the X-Axis and do my own.

  • Delete just three items from the right clic menu of a waveform graph

I would like to delete some fonctionnalities from the right click menu
of my waveform graph. If i use the specific function "delete menu", it
works only if I want to delete all the right clic menu. But if I write
the name of the specific item that i want to delete, this function
    returns an error.
    What's happening?

I think you're trying to edit the default shortcut menu of an application item, which isn't allowed.  Another way to do this is to right click on the Graph->Advanced->Run-Time Shortcut menu->Edit
Select Custom and then add in any items to want to be displayed.  This easily creates a customized menu.

  • Waveform graph - Number of major ticks on x scale

    Hello all!
I'm trying to display meteorological measurements throughout a day in a minute resolution. For that purpose I'm using a Waveform Chart with fixed length on x-axis (0-1440). However, major ticks are distributed by 100, i.e. 0, 100, 200, 300, ..., 1400, 1440. How can I distribute these points by 60, so that I can put hour labels 00:00, 01:00, 02:00 etc.
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Marko.

There is a Marker Spacing property to which you can write a custom array. This sets the scale Marker spacing to arbitrary.  See attached vi as an example.  Work still needed to make it look acceptable regarding labels.
You could make the marker every 1 hour, the minor tick (not labled) cannot be controlled,  A long chart will have 10 minute minor tick
    - half the size of the chart and it will be 20 minute
If you want continuous output I think you need to use a Waveforn Chart rather than a Waveform Graph with chart history length set to 86400 (number of seconds in 24 hours

  • Saving portion of data acquired from FPGA and visualize it on HOST RT Waveform Graph

    Hi all,
i'm using FPGA to acquire data @1 Mhz from a Custom module in a SCTL an place it in a block memory Target Scoped FIFO1 Block memory of 1023 elements.
What i want to do is acquire a known waveform and and visualize acquired data just to check if data is corrupted or if samples are correctly representing waveform.
I'm reading data from FIFO1 and placing in a MEMORY in another SCTL to not affect 1st SCTL.
My intention in this is to create a one shot reading operation to place 1023 elements from FIFO1 to MEMORY (attached pic).
After this i have another while loop that perform communication with the HOST to read data from MEMORY.
data type is FXP signed 24 bits word with 24 bit integer part.
I cannot visualize anything on the host waveform graph.. Can you tell me why?
I've attached FPGA vi and HOST vi.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mariano,
I need your complete project in order to review your application. Anywhere, you could try to run this example, that shows you the best practice in order to achieve data integrity ensuring no underflow/overflow events in data transfer.
In RT VI you can try to use Type Cast function in order to obtain DBL values from FXP ones.
Look @ this white paper that allows you to use floating point in FPGA side.
I hope that the above informations will help you in solve your issue.
    Best Regards.

  • How can I get the cursor value from a waveform graph

Is there a way to get the value of cursor position on the waveform graph so mathematical calculations be performed on those values. We can see the value in cursor legend, but can we extract those values for future calculations in the block diagram somehow.

Right-click on the waveform graph icon.  Select Create>Property Node>Cursor>Cursor Position.  That spits out a a xy cluster for the current cursor position.
If you have more than one cursor, you can either set up a loop and set the Active Cursor property node (right click the property node and select "Change to Write") or you can pull everything you ever wanted to know about every cursor with the Cursor List property node.

  • How to get the data from a waveform graph?

    Hellow!
I have a waveform graph which has the experiment signal, so how can i do to save the X,Y data in a file?
    thanks!
    Mike

    Hii,
You can store the data as shown in the vi, just use the signal data by converting it into the numeric form and give it instead of random data.
    Hope this will help.

  • Data acquisition and waveform graph plot

    Dear All
My signal is out put of current transformer which is 2v dc. I succesfully configure usb 1208fs with labview8.2. Now I want to plot my input signal on the waveform graph in frequency vs amplitude(db). Can any one guide me how can i plot my data?

    Hi,
Could you strip the VISA stuff and re-post your VI so I could run it and see where is the difference coming from. A few observations though
    1. Always try to wire from left to right and top to bottom so that your block diagram code is readable.
     2. A waveform graph gets completely redrawn everytime you give it soem data ao it is typically used outside any loops. If you want to display a waveform inside a loop, it is better to use waveform chart.

  • How to load a custom waveform for use with DAQ voltage generation

I would appreciate some advice on how to take a custom waveform (just a modified triangle wave with pauses at the tops and bottoms) and use that to control the voltage output from a DAQ.
Some background:  My intent is to use the waveform to control mirror scanning for a LADAR imaging application .  Because our DAQ (NI-6251) only has one clock, it cannot update the X and Y channel voltages independently. I'm using a triangle wave to control both axes, which works fine for the X direction.  However, to prevent the Y axis from incrementally steping up after every X pixel, I'd like to construct a waveform, similar to a step pyramid, so that the Y axis remains constant over the X sweep and only updates to the next row after all X pixels are collected.
I assume I can make the desired plot in excel, and then read it in somehow - but this is where I start to get fuzzy.  Can any one point me to an example or tutorial on this?
    Some other questions:
    1. Do I needto worry about scaling? will my custom plot need to contain a specific number of points (perhaps the exact number of pixels in the image)?
    2. If I change the image dimensions, will I need to revise the control waveform in the Y axis?
    Thanks in advance,
    jimmy

This thread didn't appear to go anywhere.  I am trying to do something similar and was looking for help.  I want to create a repeating output voltage wave based off the excel file attached(with times).  Is there a way to have my program match the output voltage and time with the table attached on a repeat and send that signal to the output?
    Thanks,
    T

  • Using a waveform graph, how to get all recorded data graphed?

I record data from 6 channels using DAQmx with simulated channels and write to measurement file.  Then using read from measurement file, and waveform graph, I am trying to graph the data that has been recorded.  I am only getting a small amount graphed.  The same graph appears whether I have let the measure and record program run for 1 minute or for ten minutes.  It also displays a time at the end of the graph that is in the future.  What am I doing wrong?  Please help.

I am attaching the two VIs I have been trying to use.  I started with examples from NI and didn't go far from that.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • How do I Get the value from a mouse click - on a waveform graph?

If I have made a plot into a Waveform Graph and later want to do a zoom of my data
(Not zoom into the Waveform Graph, but regenerate the data). How do I read the mouse
coordinate if I click on the graph window. I know how to put up the horiz and vert
cursors but don't know how to just read the mouse click. I would really like to
follow the windows standard that identifys a rectangle by clicking and draging and then
be able to read the corners of the rectangle. Thanks, Rick
    PS: Using Labview 6i

I would recommend to 'translate' your graph in a picture and dislay it in a picture control (see picture examples in LV6).
Once you did it, pictures have an extremely useful property called Mouse that returns the mouse coordinates and click events when you place the cursor on the picture.
By this you can re-arrange the graph on picture appearance.
There are also other methods such as using a Window's API that returns the mouse position referred to the whole screen window, but I believe this would be much more difficult to implement.
Let me know if this was clear and if you need an example vi.
    Good luck,
    Alberto

  • Get a waveform graph to stop plotting after a given time period

I am doing a research project looking at the effects of modifying visual feedback on a person's current force output. I have a waveform graph that plots the target force level they are trying to match (specified by me) and next to it a second plot showing their current force output (in real time). I am trying to make a condition where the current force output plot (or really the whole waveform graph) stops plotting after a 10 s time period, but can't seem to get it to work. It either plots for the whole trial, or does not plot at all. Is there a way to put a timer on a waveform graph in order to tell it to stop plotting after a specified time period?
    Thanks!

    Hi again,
I have tried to open the .vi you sent, but I have version 8.2 (yours is in version 8.5) and cannot open it. Is there a way for you to tave the.vi so that it can be opened with earlier versions of the program?
I have attatched my .vi to this message as well.

  • How to change the waveform-type inside of the waveform graph from int to double?

    Hello,
attached you find a vi with two waveform-graphs.
When i rightclick them and select "create constant" then it creates the constant.
The difference between the two graphs is, that one creates a double-array inside the constant and the other graph creates an int-array inside
The question is: Where can i change inside of the int-graph that it also creates a double-array in the constant?
(Problem is that all double-waveforms send into this graph are changed to int and rounded in the display)
    Thanks for the help

The datatype of a chart or graph is determined by the last thing you wired to it.  By default, they are simple doubles or arrays of doubles.  My guess is that you first wired a waveform with an integer data type to the graph.  It should switch automatically to a double waveform graph if you wire a waveform which contains double data to it.  If it does not, that is probably a bug.  If you have a VI in this state, please post it and I will report it to R&D.
    Thanks!
