Custom '% Work Complete' in project center views

Hi,
My projects typically have two main summary tasks under the project summary task. When calculating the % work complete at the project level, I would like to use the % work complete of one of the summary tasks instead. Also, when I show a tracking gantt in
a project center view, I would like this custom % work complete value to be the progress fill in the tracking gantt bar. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Hi Steve.Pierce,
You can achieve the 1st part simply enough by using a custom field. The image below should give you enough info assuming you can find your way around MS Project.
For the 2nd part, you'd need to work out a formula that calculates the customised % work complete and puts a end date into a free Finish field (1-10), and then change the progress lines from Actual Start to
Finish (1-10). This would assume the work is flat line prorated across the duration.

Missing Project from Project Center View

One of my Project Managers cannot see the project she is assigned to in the Project Center view. Everyone else can see the project except for her but she is the project manager. she has not changed or customized her view in any way so I am not too sure what
is happening.
Any thoughts?

Hi EPM Admin,
Check that she is the project owner of the project ("project information" page in PWA). Then publish the project.
Also check the view configuration for any filters (both in the view definition and in the user's project center).
Finally check the security category the user belongs to and the RBS configuration. But anyway, if she is the project owner and the project has been published, she must see the project.

How to display Issues for the projects which user can view in the Project Center View

Hello All,
In the project center view, at the bottom, we need to add one table, which can show the Issues for the projects that are displayed in the project center view.(Projects visible to the current user).
Example: A resource 1 can see the Projects Project 1, Project 2,Project 3 in the project center view. So resource 1 should be able to see all the issues that are entered against the Project 1, Project 2, Project 3, irrespective of the issue that has
been assigned to any resource.

Hi,
You could simply edit the page and add the risks and issues webparts. This will display risks and issues assigned to the user.
Click on edit page, then add webpart. In the Project We App section, pick up the risk webpart and then the issue webpart. Finally drag them to the bottom of the page and close the page.

Project Center Views

Is it possible to send a link that will launch a given view in PWA 2013? We have several views defined and I would like to email my managers and have them update the project status's for all projects in a given view so that workflow will process correctly

Hi,
Unfortunately it is not possible. The view ID is not part of the project center URL (https://servername.com/sites/pwa/Projects.aspx). By default, it will open on the last view used by the user.
But what you can do is to associate views to categories. Doing this, you can identify a group of users, assign them to a category with 1 unique project center view. Thus you'll be sure that they always step in the required view.

Anyone work with Entourage Project Center?

A while back I bought the expanded version of Entourage that has "project center". It worked great for a couple of weeks, then whenever I entered a new entry on a date on the calendar, it moved it to the first of the month. Microsoft was not able to fix it and offered my money back! Anyone have that experience and/or a cure? I have been using ical instead, but I like the Entourage's ability to link to tasks, calendar entries, contacts and emails. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

just to add. a few weird observations....the quicktime i am using has audio embbeded. so i click mute in the video settings so i dont hear it. (side note: a bug i hate is that mute is my default yet i have to go each time i load the project and click internal then click mute, for it to work) because i want to use the omf's dialog.
when i have the sound output of the video set to internal it plays perfectly in sync with my omf tracks delayed a bit. but the omf tracks dont delya at the same ammount all the time....they go in and out a fraction. also the embeded audio changes pitch at weird times too.
im running my project at 48k.

Hiding some level of grouping when the custom field is empty at Project Center

I group some custom fields at the Project Center (portfolio/programs/subprograms), but some on this are empty (see the image). I want to eliminate this fields (subprograms; subprogramas in the image), but next level (the projects) must continue to be visible.
Is it possible?

Your interpretation is right. But in real life is usual that exists projects part of a program but that don't have a subprogram assigned (see for example the PMBOK for the concept, i.e. unbalanced tree of programs/subprograms/projects). Again,
it seems to me that MS PPM 2013 is a project server tool enhanced but not a REAL portfolio tool. I wonder why Gartner put it in it's first magic quadrant ?

How to add a custom field to the "Projects" page "Group by" data menu list

Hi,
I'm deploying Project Online and I want to group projects by a custom field on the "Projects" page. Currently I can see options for group by Project Name, Start, Finish, % complete etc. I would like to group by a custom field of programme name
which is filled in on the Project Details form.
I can create the enterprise field etc, however I can't work out how to make the new enterprise field appear in this list. Or am I barking up the wrong tree and should be creating separate Project Types for each programme?
Any help an advise greatly appreciated.

Project Center permissions needed

Hi
This is probably an easy one, but I'm missing something... I want a user to be able to view the Project Center, and so I have given him the following permissions in his category:
Open Project
Publish Project
But apparently this is not enough because the user gets an "Sorry, you don't have access to this page" error as soon as he logs in (he doesn't have access to a single page). Do I need to give any other permissions?

Indeed Pedro, in addition to the global permissions of the group, you have to give access to the project center view to the category the user belongs to.

Project Server 2010 , Project Center, Resource Center, My Work not loading

We have Project Server 2010 SP-2 env
Yesterday one of my Project Manager told me that he is not able to access any of the following page Project Center, Resource Center, My Work in our Quality env. Issue is it shows page is loading infinitely long and on botton it shows some script error mentioned

Hi,
From error log it seems you have some custom or thrid party web part activated in your application and that web part is not able to load which might causing those pages to get corrupt.
As a fix can suggest you below to two thing to check
1) Remove that "FirePoint.SharePoint.RssViewerWebPart" from your environment and try to access those PWA pages again.
2) Even after removing above web-part solution does not fix this issue, as it is quality env can you try to disconnect and reconnect the share-point farm . Then try to access those pages again.
Share us the latest update and your finding on this issue.

Project progress vs % Work complete

Hi,
As far as I've read the %Complete field doesn't state the progress of the project. I would like to see how much work has been done (% Work complete) and compare it against a percentage that's the same as days past since beginning divided by total duration
times 100%. So in a project lasting 100 working days, I want this project progress at 50% after 50 working days and compare it against the % Work complete. Is there an option to do this?
If this function isn't available by default, I would have to use some custom fields in which is calculated:
The number of working days passed since the startdate of the project
The total number of working days (equals duration)
Divide the days passed by the days total * 100%

In the meantime I was trying myself to accomplish it. I did it like this:

How to reuse standard Activity subcomponents - Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails within a custom work center?

Requirement : We have a requirement to reuse the standard Activity subcomponents Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails within a custom work centre. The requirement is to leverage and copy all sub functionalities Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails available within the standard activity work center. This feature is available within Accounts, Opportunities, Leads etc. (Refer screenshot: Std_Act_Screen.jpg)
We are unable to consume/embed the standard Activity (Work center) sub components Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails within the custom work center. This is because of backend consistency check violation UI designer error message displayed. (Refer screenshot:Error while consuming standard activities.jpg)

a. Is there a limitation to consume/embed the standard Activity (Work center) subcomponents Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails within a custom work center? We have noticed that this standard Activity Work center subcomponents Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails has been repeatedly reused within the application in Account, Opportunity, Sales lead, Lead, Sales Quote Objects.
b. Is there an alternative way in which we can call [Through API etc..] the standard Activity Work center subcomponents Appointments, Tasks, Phone Calls and Emails?

Project Web App (PWA)/Sharepoint 2013: is there any way to display two different views of the Project Center PWA web part to the same user in a site collection?

i want some of my users to see all the projects in the Project Center at my top-level site, and those same users to see only the projects they own at a subsite level in Project Center. that way they could see an 'all project' view on the homepage and only
their projects on their dashboard pages (which also have an instance of Project Center web part on them). i have searched and searched but cannot find a solution to this. is there any way to acheive this functionality? thanks in advance for your assistance!

I have tried this in the past, but was not successful, as far as I can recall. Once you access the project center webpart in one page, the view will be retained regardless where you see it again. (until you apply a different view or clear your browser cache).
May be an easier solution is to display a 'report' on the home page with ALL projects (much easier to do), and use the Project Center webpart for the My projects view as it is easier to achieve via Project Server Security, than a report.

Is this Project Server 2010 or 2013 ? In 2010 Have you tried providing permissions for the user on a specific view ?

PWA 2013 Project Center Default View Problem

I removed all the views for the Project Center and created new views more appropriate for my organization within the Manage View area through PWA Settings . This included removing the Summary view which I have now understand is the default view. So
when users go to the PWA Project Center page, they receive the following error message:
"View Failure - The view failed to load. Press OK to reload this view with the default settings. Press Cancel to select another view."
At this point, if the user select OK, they see the following message:
"You don't have permissions to view any Projects"
Then they can change the view and everything is fine for that user.
If they select Cancel, they have the option to select a different view and everything is fine for that user.
My question is, how do I set a new view as the default view? Based on the research I've done, this doesn't appear to be an option. Assuming that is correct, what are my alternatives? This will be a continuous problem because all new user
will see this error message.

There is no option to define a Project Centre view as the default view within PWA that I am aware of.
The Summary view is just the first view that is displayed when you access the Project Centre. Once you have selected a different view in the Project Centre if you then navigate away from the Project Centre, to the Resource Centre for example, and then return
to the Project Centre it will display the view you last viewed.
I think the same applies if you close the browser and then re-open it.
If anyone knows how to determine the default view in the Project Centre I would be interested to learn.

I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels. Any easy solution?
Steps:
1. I finished an Aperture 2 (Two) book project and tried to submit it to Apple for printing. At that point I learned (belatedly, obviously) that Apple no longer accepts books from Aperture 2. I don't know how I would have known to even ask if Aperture 2 had been sunsetted as far as book projects go.
2. So I tried to download Aperture 3 ($79.99), only to be told that I couldn't download Aperture 3.5.1 because I was still running OSX 10.8.x. So I read current reviews for OSX 10.9.x, and ...
3. Downloaded and installed the current operating system (about a 3-hours process for me). OSX 10.9.2, here we are!
4. Then I returned to the Apple Store, found, and purchased Aperture 3. [For safety's sake, it would sure be nice to have a .dmg file I could copy and file away. I lost a perfectly legal and good copy of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 years ago because I wasn't smart enough to make a safety copy, and when my iMac crashed (fried electronic components), I was left with a copy of the software that wouldn't run, and couldn't be verified as legit.]
5. When Aperture 3 finished installing, I found and imported my COMPLETED Aperture 2 book project, which import seemed to proceed nominally -- the right number of pages, the right content on those pages, that sort of thing -- until I started looking more carefully at the pictures themselves. All of them, about 300 of them, have been imported into an Aperture 3 book project in such a reduced resolution that they are fuzzy at the size the book will be printed. Screen-capture of just one example (at 100% viewer setting):
I don't know what to do at this point to correct the problem, short of going through the entire book project, copy the custom captions (since those go away when you "delete" photo content), delete the photo, re-insert the photo, and paste back the custom caption. Lather, rinse, repeat - ~300 times! An estimated 2-3 hours of additional work.
Or does anyone in this community know either (1) that I did something wrong in the Aperture 2-to-Aperture 3 import (I don't recall being offered any options or choices in the process); or (2) that there is a wholesale one-step solution to my problem?
BTW, I tried to edit my "Product" info, but OSX 10.9.x is not in the pick list. I am running OSX 10.9.2

Frank, thanks for your note. I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it. Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first. [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.] That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so. As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely. You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before? Do you know of a one-step solution? Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix?
