Project progress vs % Work complete

Hi,
As far as I've read the %Complete field doesn't state the progress of the project. I would like to see how much work has been done (% Work complete) and compare it against a percentage that's the same as days past since beginning divided by total duration
times 100%. So in a project lasting 100 working days, I want this project progress at 50% after 50 working days and compare it against the % Work complete. Is there an option to do this?
If this function isn't available by default, I would have to use some custom fields in which is calculated:
The number of working days passed since the startdate of the project
The total number of working days (equals duration)
Divide the days passed by the days total * 100%

In the meantime I was trying myself to accomplish it. I did it like this:
Custom Duration 1: ProjDateDiff([Project Start];Date();"Standard")
Custom Duration 2: ProjDateDiff([Project Start];[Project Finish];"Standard")
Custom Text 1: Round([Duration1]/[Duration2]*100) & " %"
Starting to like MS P!! :)
Is there any possibility to only show this for the Project Summary (ID 0)?

Custom '% Work Complete' in project center views

My projects typically have two main summary tasks under the project summary task. When calculating the % work complete at the project level, I would like to use the % work complete of one of the summary tasks instead. Also, when I show a tracking gantt in
a project center view, I would like this custom % work complete value to be the progress fill in the tracking gantt bar. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

You can achieve the 1st part simply enough by using a custom field. The image below should give you enough info assuming you can find your way around MS Project.
For the 2nd part, you'd need to work out a formula that calculates the customised % work complete and puts a end date into a free Finish field (1-10), and then change the progress lines from Actual Start to
Finish (1-10). This would assume the work is flat line prorated across the duration.

When you open the project, it should ask you where the first file is located. After you tell it where it is, it should be able to find the rest of them if they are located near the first one. Then save the file. If you move the files again, you will have to relink them again.

Error in Project Progress Config and process steps

I am implementing PS for Asset procurement, in this i will procure material against material component which is added in Internal activity. I am using scheduling also. Now My client requirement is that he want project progress report on cost basic.
I am using CJ40, CJ30 and CJ32.
IN IMG i have configured like given below
1. I have created Progress version 100
    EV base - Cost Plan ( active Proejct, Annual Value)
    POC weighting - Weight
    Planning type - Basic dates
    Early/Late - Earliest Possible
    Actual method and Ref plan method tick.
2. Measurement method -
   for cost based report i have selected - Cost proportional
3. Default value for measuremnt method -
    100 -WBS element - Plan - Cost proportional
    100 - WBS element - Actual - Cost proportional
    100 - Acitvity ( int)- Actual - Cost proportional
    100 - Acitvity ( int)- Actual - Cost proportional
I have put this in CJ20N. I followed following steps
1. CNE1
2. CNE5
but it is showing 0 value in all tabs such as Aggregate planned percentage of completion, Non-aggregated planned percentage of completion
can anyone tell me the total process to get this report perfectly. It is very urgent need so please help me guys.

Hi,
1) in wbs goto progress tab for enter version plan ,give ur method and actual also give your method poc weightage give 1
2) in activity go to progress tab enter your version, give your method for plan and actual give the work measurement method and weightage give 1
3) now confirm the activities if partial confirmation enter the degree of processing (%).
4) goto progress calculation screen and give your project number and select with hierachy and with orders. enter the month and year.
5) excute,
6) goto the report and check the report.
if still not working send screen shot of the report.

Problem in Project progress

Hi,
I am facing problem in Project progress report CNE5.
System is calculated 300 % poc in Adjusted aggregated actual POC & Aggregated actual POC field only after full confirmed the activity (Degree of Processing is showing in report as 100%).
If I confirmed 50 % then system is showing above value 0% .
Also while CNE1 system is taking default method as :SAP 0-100, so i changed it into activity by 00006 (Work) then system calculate the Progress but only after full confirmation, but again it is 300%. which should not.
The configuration settings are as
1. Progress Version: -
Progress Version : 100
Plan Version          : 0
EV Basis                 : 1 ( Cost Plan)
POC weighting      : 4 Work, Basic ( Active Project)
2. Group of Progress version:-
Controlling Area & 1
3. Assign Progress Versions to Group Progress Versions:-
Controlling Area, 100 & 1
4. Define Statistical Key Figure for Percentage of Completion:-
                                                 Usage               SKF (with unit of measurement= %)
       Controlling area                   1 10

5. Define Measurement Methods:-
Measurement method :0000000006 (Work)

My problem is system is calculating poc only after full confirmation but i want at partial confirmation. Also after full confirmation poc is showing 300% which i want 100%.

Premiere Pro CS 5.5 crashes when opening certain projects. Others work.

Hey,
when opening two certain project PP starts to load but when the progress bar is full the program crashes with an error saying Premiere Pro doesn't work anymore.
Other projects can be opened like normal. I can also create a new project and premiere works.
Is there a problem with the project file? Can they be faulty? But I didn't change them for a few months. I also tried to open backupfiles of that project but it is the same problem. What else can be wrong?
The project is very complex, might this cause any problem? Or sth. in the cache, preview files?
Hopefully someone can help me out.

That would certainly indicate that your "bad" projects are completely corrupt
When you create new projects (sorry, I don't have any other suggestion) you might also start a new work habit
At least every day, or after every "major" project step, do a SAVE AS to save a new project
Something like...
JoeVideo01
JoeVideo02
JoeVideo03
and so on... so if JoeVideo03 is somehow corrupted, you may go back to JoeVideo02 AND all of the auto-saves for that name to try and find a project that is from before the corruption happened

Project Progress

Dear All,
Please suggest in case of my following scenario:
If I want to measure the project progress on the basis of work completed on each activities under several wbs and then total of project under which these WBS come.
I am using progress version with basis as Work. Assigning Degree of completion as measuring method to actual method in Progress Tab of each activity(Both Internal and external).
In CNE5 i get the correct % of work and weight for each activity.
But when I assign weight to the WBS above these activities and suppose there are three parallel WBS like this then I canot access the work done for each WBS.
As SAP does not allow % of work done for WBS.
Can somebody suggest something please.

PS & ISUtilities (Tracking Project Progress)

In a single project (4 apartments) there are 100 premises (eg flats) 25 flats per Apartment. Each flat is considered as potential customer for Gas.
Project people complete the work in 3 stages.
Mile stone 1 = Rs 500 collected per Business partner & Phase 1 is completed
Milestone 2 =   Rs 2000 is collected per Business Partner & Phase 2 is completed
Milestone 3 =   Rs 2500 is collected per Business Partner & Phase 3 is
                       completed by projects department.
Here the completion of work by Project department in SAP PS is interrelated to ISU a) Premise (eg flat)    b)Business Partner (Customer taking connection ) .
The project manager shall be able to find in every project comprising of 100 flats ,
The amount of work completed each flat( Customer wise) .
Eg   Customer1          Milestone I & Milestone 2 completed
       Customer 2         Milestone 1 completed , Amount received for Milestone 2
                                but work has not been started by projects department .
      Customer 3          Milestone 1,2 and Milestone 3 completed

Person responsible based Authorization in Projects is not working for me

Hi,
Does 'Person responsible' based authorization for WBSE works for the WBS element only, or for the hierarchically sub-ordinate non-WBS objects (meaning Networks, Activities, Materials etc) as well?
Details:
(Authorization objects: C_PROJ_VNR and C_PRPS_VNR)
-- User1 is assigned with role TESTROLE1. This role has the Project manager based WBS & project authorization objects, with person number 101.
-- User2 is assigned with role TESTROLE2. This role has the Project manager based WBS & project authorization objects, with person number 102.
Following sample project is created by a super-user:
PROJ123 (Details: person responsible - 101)
WBS-1 (Details: person responsible - 101)
    WBS-1/1 (Details: person responsible - 101)
      NETWORK1
      ACTIVITY11
      MATERIAL111
      MATERIAL112
    WBS-1/2 (Details: person responsible - 102)
      NETWORK2
      ACTIVITY21
      MATERIAL211
      MATERIAL212
Now the requirement of super-user is that WBS-1/1 and its subordinate elements (Activities, Materials etc) should be editable only by User1. And similarly, WBS-1/2 and its subordinate elements should be editable by User2 only.
My issue:
Although WBS-1/1 is not accessible to User2, BUT User2 can edit the subordinate elements (NETWORK1, ACTIVITY11, MATERIAL111, MATERIAL112) of WBS-1/1. I do not want User2 to have edit access to subordinate elements of WBS-1/1.
Above issue is with User1 for WBS-1/2 as well.
Hope I am clear in explaining my issue. Can anyone please help me understand the standard authorization concept of Person responsible based roles. I suspect that I am going wrong somewhere but I am not able to identify the problem.
I want to allow access of a part of project to one user, and another part to some other user. And I do not want to go for an ABAP option if I can do above using basis authorizations.
(Above mentioned problem is not just with part of projects, but with a complete project as well.)

Are you aware of any authorization objects which can restrict access to Networks, Activities, Material components and Milestones, using 'Person responsible' or any other suitable field? I hope you got what I am looking for.
Restricting WBSE based on 'Person responsible' without restricting sub-ordinate elements is not much useful according to me. It helps only with simple project structures (having only WBSE) and nothing much. Right?

Task dashboard - work complete column

Hello experts,
Could you please help me figure out what should I do in order to have the column Work complete from My Tasks dashboard automatically?
1. First, I set a percentage of my complete work on task level, tab Dates and Work , field % completed
2. Second, after saving I would like to see this percentage on my tasks dashboard

Have you done the evaluations? Since the dashboard's data are updated through extract layouts/evaluation in configuration (The details about it is answered by Hans in the below thread)
cProjects severity status can’t chang the icon according to the formula
And also for 'Work complete' field in configuration of extraction layout '0_Dashboard', calculate after aggregation has been set, so try to aggregate severity in project by selecting project definition of the project and clicking on 'Aggregate' button.

How to create a project/solution from a completed dtsx file?

I have been working with the MSDN tutorial (with sql server 2008 R2) at

and now I'm trying to work with one of the completed lessons (lesson1.dtsx). I was able to open Lesson1.dtsx from BI by selecting the Open File option. This opened up Lesson 1 in the designer with the Flow task and LookUp objects. But there
is nothing in the solution explorer, and 'Start Debugging' is grayed out in BI/Debug. Is there a way I can create a project / solution from this completed dtsx? How to accomplish that?
Like in C# if I open up a .csproj file in VS(2012) I can run the project, and on closing -- VS will ask to save the solution .sln and VS creates the .sln for you. Can BI do something like that with a .dtsx file?

Actually, the tutorial has misled you. It says that DimTime should be used that should be removed and correct steps should have been added.

WIP, RA with Method 07-POC Method on Basis of Project Progress value

Hello, we are currently using RA under a Basis of work completed method, and this works well in our system. We are using the standard SAP functionality, and within our system this means revenue is recognised based on Earned Revenue = actual cost/planned cost x planned revenue. The system automatically processes accruals/deferrals on our projects taking into account the invoiced values also, as part of the RA & settlement process.
I need to find some information describing this process specific to this selection of method 07, and can't seem to find anything. I have tried saying it is Standard functionality but need to be able to explain alittle more about how this works.
Can anyone help with this, have they also produced something similar.

Dear PS Friends,
I would like to know if any of you have worked on Project Progress Catch-up Plan.
Basically, it is the third dashed-curve which comes in a project progress graph of plan vs actual to cover u2013up the delay.
Below is an example to explain this.
M3 being the current month.

Plan PoC     0%     12%     20%     35%     42%     52%     60%     72%     90%

Hi Abdul,
We are using the planned dates and actual dates spread over duration to calculate the monthly PoC.
Now, if there is a delay i.e. there is a variance between planned and actual, then we need to reschedule   or u2018crashu2019 the project .
This in turn will give us a new planning curve that would need to be followed in order to make up for the delay.
But the problem is that if we reschedule, the original plan is overwritten and hence, the u2018baselineu2019 vanishes.
So the requirement is that in CNE1 , we should be able to calculate three set of dates u2013 original planned PoC ,actual Poc till date, rescheduled PoC.
Given that progress version supports only two set of dates, is there any way to achieve this ?
