Customizable Metadata fields?

Is there any way to customize which Metadata fields appear in the right panel? At the moment there is a list of sets to choose from (Default, EXIF, Location etc) – is it possible to create a custom set of Metadata fields? For example I want the 'Model', 'Location' and 'Caption' fields to appear on the same panel...
Thanks, Alex

  • How to make metadata fields required when creating folders

    Hello all....
Related issue with SR 3-6472229431 and SR 3-6471130611.
We're using DIS 11.1.6 64-bits (2011_11_29 (rev 9756) 11.1.6.97) in a Windows 7 64-bits workstation (with UCM 11.1.1.5 in a Linux machine). The check-in of images to UCM goes fine.
I'm trying to make some metadata fields required when creating a folder. These fields are required when making a check-in, but not when creating folders.
    Folders_g is enabled. DesktopTag too.
    EDIT: Patch: 14695303 - WCC 11.1.1.5.0 BUNDLE ( MLR 16 ) NOV 6 2012 applied.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks for all.

After reading your response and rereading the original question a bit closer, the metadata prompting feature does not apply to creating new folders, only content.
Again, though, I think the focus here is in the wrong place. The metadata applied to a folder is intended to be ultimately applied to the content. You can build global rules that fire on submission of content to check if a field has a value, and throw an error if the value is empty.
If you expect users to create folders (and actually apply any metadata to the actual folder itself), you will be disappointed. Experience shows that users are not interested in that level of detail when creating content, let alone folders. Letting typical users create folders is a bad idea anyway, as they tend to create the same inefficient folder structures they previously created in file shares within Content Server.
If you need to tightly control folder attributes, you'll be better served by locking down the ability to create new folders. Otherwise you're looking at some type of customization. Keep in mind that you won't be able to customize the right click behavior of DIS. Any changes to DIS would have to be an enhancement request.

  • Need 2 metadata fields from item I am running a approval workflow on to show up on the task list

I have document library "A" that contains many documents with 6 columns of metadata. I have a simple approval workflow for the library that works as it should in functionality. My users would like it if 2 fields of metadata from the items in library
"A" would show up in the Task list so they could track the tasks by the 2 fields. Can anyone point me in the right direction here to make this happen? Working in SP2010 with Designer 2010 and IP 2010.
    Thanks

    Hi Ross,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display two managed metadata fields in the associated tasks created in the approval workflow.
I recommend to edit the approval workflow in SharePoint Designer and new two task fields to display the two managed metadata fields.
    Here are the detailed steps:
Open the approval workflow in SharePoint Designer and click Approval in Start Approval Process step.
Click New to create two task form fields in single line of text type.
Click Change the behavior of a single task under Customization.
In Before a Task is Assigned step, select Set Task Field under Task Behavior Actions and then set the newly created task form fields to get the values in the managed metadata fields of current item.
Please refer to the picture below(create a task form field called Managed Metadata for example and mm is the managed metadata column in the list):
    Best regards.

  • How to hide custom metadata field in custom profies ??

    hi,
how to hide custom metadata dropdown list in a custom profile based on choosing the security group.
ex: if i choose xxx security group, custom metadata dropdown should not appeared, for remaining security groups it should be visible.
so, Based on criteria, custom metadata should be hidden in custom profiles..
how to achieve it ?? where and how to configure ??
    Detail guidance should be required
    Thanks in advance

You cannot do this through profiles alone if I understand you correctly.
If I load a check in page, choose a security group and at this moment want a custom metadata field to disappear then you are beyond what profiles offers.
Rules evaluation can only be based on information that is know at the time the page is requested. That means in order for this to work you would need to make security group an non editable field and have a set of profiles for each security group.
The alternative is to customize the UI with soem DHTML or AJAX

  • Update Managed Metadata field in SharePoint 2013 Designer Workflow for O365

    Hi Guys,
I need to update the managed metadata field in SharePoint Custom List using Workflow but its not working. I have also tried to use the HTTP WebService POST Operation but no luck.
Am doing this for a SharePoint Online (O365) Site.
Has anyone worked on something similar and was able to get it running ?
I saw a post to create a custom Workflow Activity but I don't have a choice to go with the custom code option.
    http://patrickboom.wordpress.com/2013/07/23/workflow-activity-set-managed-metadata-column/
I was able to achieve this by creating a SP 2010 based Workflow for O365. Which means that it worked well with SP 2010.
Is there a different way to do it in 2013 ? I tried almost all options apart from creating custom Activity but nothing worked out.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,

    Hi Nutan,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to update Managed Metadata field with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint Online.
As far as I know, there is not an OOB action to achieve your requirement with SharePoint 2013 Designer for SharePoint 2013. Customizing a workflow action is a better option to achieve it.  Why didn’t you customize a workflow action as Patrick’s blog?
In addition, please take a look at the article about Nintex workflow, check whether it is useful for you:
    http://habaneroconsulting.com/insights/setting-managed-metadata-fields-in-a-nintex-workflow#.UykBSf6KDHo
As this issue is about SharePoint Online, I suggest you create a new thread on SharePoint Online forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=onlineservicessharepoint . More experts will assist you.
    I hope this helps.

  • Hide Metadata Field

    HI,
In my project we have a requirement of hiding a metadata filed on the selection of some dropdown list.
Can i do this thurogh profile-rules or i need to customize the checkIn form.
Please suggest if any of the way you know it can be done.
    Thanks

I have here a condition on hiding the metadata field or exclude the rule from the profile on the selection of some
particular value from the dropdown field.
In that document i could not any thing regarding this.
If I can generate any event on selecting that dropdown then i can write a custom code in the activation of the rule in which that other field is included.
Can you suggest something on this?

  • UCM Metadata modeling - Complex metadata field

    Hi,
We are currently in the process of modeling our UCM for our enterprise webcenter application.
We have a requirement where a metadata field may have non-straigthforward values.
We have a table called worklocation_table with rows of data such as
    Columns : | doc id | office | city | province | country
    row 1 : | 1 | 12 Ave | NY | NY | USA
    row 2 : | 1 | Buffalo | NY | NY | USA
    row 3 : | 2 | Stn 2 | Edmonton | AB | Canada
We want a metadata field xWorklocationMetadata which associates a document with a one to many relationship with worklocaton_table.
So if we have a docMeta table in UCM
    Columns : | dId | xWorklocationMetadata
    row 1 : | 1 | 1
    row 2 : | 2 | 2
But the problem will be with searching ? How will the search understand a foreign key relationship between docMeta and xWorkLocationMetadata ?
How should we approach our modeling ? Are they any features in UCM that will allow us to do that. Our main concern is
searching, metadata management and ease of development.
    Thanks,

How about changing your database scheme a bit?
    a) one table (documents) with the primary key dId - in fact, dId is for revisions, not documents, but be it
    b) the other table (worklocations) with its own primary key - No doc id there!!! (it is not a property of the worklocations, but of a document, or of a binding)
    c) the third table (binding) which will contain many:many relationship between docs and locations (your data suggests that the relationship is rather many:many rather than one:many as doc_id 1 is in both 12 Ave and Buffalo; one:many would actually be even easier)
Now, the third table can be replaced by a custom metadata; one:many is a peanut - each doc is in just one location, so you can add the location as a metadata field. With many:many, it could be a bit trickier - OOTB you could go with Multiselect List, but if you have a lot of worklocations, the user experience might be too bad. Therefore, probably some customization (and why not keeping the binding in a separate table, then?) would be needed anyway.
Either way, check what schemes http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c04_metadata.htm#DAFEDBBA can do for you.

  • Metadata Fields Gone from Import Pane

When importing there is a place to "Add Metadata From" and many options exist to customize it. I did customize the view, but now it offers no fields no matter what option I choose and I've tried about all of 'em. Where did those scrolling fields go and how do I get them back?

I have found the problem so for the benefit of anyone else who experiences this, here goes:
Close import and maximize the Aperture screen (usually the green button, but the third in this case). That smaller screen size hides the metadata fields. Seems like a bug to me, but I'm glad I'm over another hurdle.

  • Hierarchical metadata field?

In UCM 10gR3, is it possible to create a single metadata field that has hierarchy built right into it? I am thinking of metadata fields like WebSiteSection or Virtual Folder (xCollectionID) or perhaps dDocAccount.
    1 Geography
    1.1 North America
    1.1.1 USA
    1.1.1.1 East Coast
    1.1.1.2 Central
    1.1.1.3 West Coast
    1.1.2 Canada
    1.2 Europe
    1.2.1 Germany
    1.2.2 Spain
For example, I would like to store this hierarchy in a metadata table (or tables) and check in documents and assign them to values at any node level (North America, Spain, West Coast, Canada and so on) and not just the leaf nodes. My requirement has nothing to do with geography- the above is just an example.
Or is there any other way to achieve this effect?

You can create a metadata field that stores a tree of values without customization, but it takes some time to set up in Config Mgr Applet.
Also, it will store the value as a text string like, America -> USA -> New York, so beware how you need to use the information in terms of searching. Also, because its stored like this, if you update your tree values, none of the stored records will be updated (i.e. these aren't true relational fields).
With that being said, you would need to create a table in Config Mrg for each level of the tree you need. For fields each table would need a primary key (unique ID), the name, and the name of the parent in the next level up. Then you create corresponding Views in Config Mgr for each table. Then you create a Relation for each link between the levels (level1-2, level2-3, etc). Then you add an Information metadata field, make it an Option Lists and click Use Tree.
That's one way to do it. Maybe dependent choice lists are better in terms of searching though, IDK.

  • Metadata Field from Service

    Hi all,
    I have a question...
Is it possible to create a custom metadata field, based on the results of a SEARCH_RESULTS service??
If it is, how can i do it??
What i want is to have a combo, displaying the results of a SEARCH_RESULTS service and after the user chooses, just save the text in the field.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there.
    Yes it is possible.
Like most things in UCM there are several ways to do this. But first some clarification
Are you looking to save the selections in a field or to display a field with dynamic selections?
    Both are possible but different.
if you're looking to save the selections in a generic field then you can do this by creating a "generic" metadata field that can hold CSV or other delimited values. Because display of the metadata field is completely governed by the service parameters you can display this however you wish. I have seen folks change the field label, the field contents, the field position, and even if it is visible or not with some business logic parameters. You can do this all in profiles with some (admittedly advanced) configuration.
If you are looking to display a field with dynamic selections then I would use either a DCL structure where the options are populated with a result set from a service execution or a rule that derives values for the field based on some additional business logic (idocscript). The nice thing about either of these options is that they are completely scriptable which opens up any kind of slicing / dicing you wish (pulling data from an external server or web service? no problem).
If you are in the customization realm then you can use the loadMetaOptionsLists service to load your list with your results and then display in a combo box.

  • Adobe Bridge CC: Batch Rename using any metadata field

How can I add certain Metadata fields to the pull down menu in the batch rename function?
I need to do a batch rename of files, but using metadata fields that are not available as an option on the pull down menu.
Hoping to use any or all of these:
    Audio : Artist, Album, Genre
IPTC Core : Description, Keywords, etc..

I don't think there is any way in which you can add to the built-in functions…
Unless this is actually provided by one of the Adobe start-up scripts… ( I've not see it when digging about )
You would probably need a scripted solution that can give you drop down menu of the extra options you want.

  • To plugin developers: can I have access to any metadata field of the catalog in Print Module?

    Dear LR plugin developers,
Maybe one of you has already implemented such a feature, maybe I can entice you to do so, if several people find this useful?
Is there a forum for plugin feature requests? If so, forgive me for using this general user-to-user for this. Or would you look on the Adobe feature request forum for such input?
I would like to have access to any metadata field of the catalog in Print module, ok if for all LR standard catalog fields, preferable if also for custom fields created by other plugins.
I would want to add such a field underneath each image on a print page, e.g. something like complete exposure info.
Doing so in export in a "Mogrify-like" way would also be ok, if metadata accessible. Fixed custom text obviously would be cumbersome, as limiting to 1 image to export at a time. Creating jpgs in export is ok,
Print module would be preferable as I was hoping for more than one image per page=jpg.
Now if such text could even be placed anywhere on a print template, possibly containing also free text, and formatable - you would have corrected the basic design flaw of the Book module imo...
    Cornelia

    Cornelia
The problem one faces is that the SDK does not access Print or Book. You'll need to (ab)use the fields that are available, and I'd suggest you look at my Search and Replace plugin which can transfer values between fields. So you could move info from an inaccessible field to one that can be printed. Maybe use virtual copies which you can just discard afterwards?

  • How to add a new metadata field to iPhoto where new field is calculated as age in years and month based on a specific date and the date photo was taken ? I want to calculate and display the age of my two kids on every photo.

    Hi
How can I add 2 new metadata-fields to every photo in iPhoto ?
The new fields should state the age of my kids in years and months based on the date that they were born and the date that photo is taken.
    Exampel:
    My son is born 01.01.2010
    My daughter is born 01.01.2012
    Photo taken by data
    Aage of son
    Aage of daughter
    01.07.2011
    1 year 6 month
    not born yet
    01.01.2014
    4 year 0 month
    2 year 0 month
I would like to be able to search by kids age and get the info displayed when doing slideshows.
How to do this in iPhoto ?
Any alternatives to accomplish the same ?
    Kind regards

It can't be done with iPhoto.  There are some DAM (digital asset management) applications that can write to other IPTC fields that iPhoto can't read. One such app is Media Pro 1.
However you would have to calculate the age for each date and add it to one of the fields. There are online age calculators that can do that for you: Age Calculators
If you go thru that much trouble then use iPhoto, make the calculations and add the age to the Description field.  Then you can use Smart Albums to search for 1year 6 month text.

  • What does all does metadata fields mean?

So far, I haven't yet created a personalized Metadata Preset for all my photos because I don't understand most of the fields, what they exactly mean and where is that value going to be displayed/read by.
Can anyone help me on that or point to me to an article or guide about each metadata field editable in Lightroom?
For instance, Basic Info has fields like "Caption", "Rating", "Label" and Copy Name". Well, I believe Caption is the photo name (if we decide to give it one), Rating is self explanatory but Label and Copy Name I have no clue what are they for and where are they going to be used, etc...
IPTC Content, IPTC Copyright, IPTC Creator, IPTC Image and IPTC Status, what are all these for and what about each of their fields, I don't know what they mean and what are they for, where they will be read/used, all that...
After understanding what all those fields mean, which ones do you recommend to fill for a preset or how do you do it with your photos? I mean, I believe IPTC Image is something to do with a respective image, so, if I have a bunch of images from different countries, places and whatever, it makes no sense to have a preset for that unless I'm importing a bunch of photos from a specific place. But I'm talking about a more general preset that you use for all or most of your photos. What should I fill?
But more importantly, I need/want to understand all those fields, what are they for and how they will be used, etc, but the most important thing in all of this is to know what each field means, otherwise, I won't be able to know if I want to provide that information or not and if I know what to write there.
P.S: Try not to confuse me a lot ;)

In our SharePoint 2013 Publishing page, managed metadata fields doesn't show in preview, they show up only in edit mode or after we publish page.
    Is this bug?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the managed metadata fields not display in preview.
I tried to reproduce the issue, the managed metadata fields worked well in my environment.
I create a publishing page, add a library web part which contained managed metadata columns.
Then click the preview option in the ribbon, the managed metadata columns worked well.
Did the issue occur in other publishing pages? You can create a new publishing page to check whether it works.
Did you use the compatibility mode or add the site into trusted sites?
You can use compatibility mode to check whether it works.
    Open IE->Tools->Compatibility View Settings
You can also add the site into Trusted sites.
Open the IE->Internet Options->Security->Sites->add the site into the Websites, then check whether it works.
What's more, you can use other browsers to check whether it works, such as Firefox, Chrome.
